[1]And they continuedH3427[H8799] threeH7969 yearsH8141 without warH4421 between SyriaH758 and IsraelH3478. [1]Therfor thre yeeris passiden with out batel bitwixe Sirie and Israel.
[2]And it came to pass in the thirdH7992 yearH8141, that JehoshaphatH3092 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063 came downH3381[H8799] to the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478. [2]Forsothe in the thridde yeer Josephat, king of Juda, yede doun to the kyng of Israel.
[3]And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559[H8799] unto his servantsH5650, KnowH3045[H8804] ye that RamothH7433 in GileadH1568 is ours, and we be stillH2814[H8688], and takeH3947[H8800] it not out of the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of SyriaH758? [3]And the kyng of Israel seide to hise seruauntis, Witen ye not, that Ramoth of Galaad is oure, and we ben necgligent to take it fro the hoond of the kyng of Sirie?
[4]And he saidH559[H8799] unto JehoshaphatH3092, Wilt thou goH3212[H8799] with me to battleH4421 to RamothgileadH7433[H1568]? And JehoshaphatH3092 saidH559[H8799] to the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, I am as thouH3644 art, my peopleH5971 as thy peopleH5971, my horsesH5483 as thy horsesH5483. [4]And he seide to Josaphat, Whether thou schalt come with me to fiyte in to Ramoth of Galaad?
[5]And JehoshaphatH3092 saidH559[H8799] unto the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, EnquireH1875[H8798], I pray thee, at the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 to dayH3117. [5]And Josophat seide to the kyng of Israel, As Y am, so and thou; my puple and thi puple ben oon; and my knyytis and thy knyytis `ben oon. And Josephat seide to the kyng of Israel, Y preie thee, axe thou to dai the word of the Lord.
[6]Then the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 gatheredH6908 the prophetsH5030 togetherH6908[H8799], about fourH702 hundredH3967 menH376, and saidH559[H8799] unto them, Shall I goH3212[H8799] against RamothgileadH7433[H1568] to battleH4421, or shall I forbearH2308[H8799]? And they saidH559[H8799], Go upH5927[H8798]; for the LordH136 shall deliverH5414[H8799] it into the handH3027 of the kingH4428. [6]Therfor the kyng of Israel gaderide prophetis aboute foure hundrid men, and he seide to hem, Owe Y to go in to Ramoth of Galaad to fiyte, ethir to reste? Whiche answeriden, Stie thou, and the Lord schal yyue it in the hond of the kyng.
[7]And JehoshaphatH3092 saidH559[H8799], Is there not here a prophetH5030 of the LORDH3068 besidesH5750, that we might enquireH1875 of himH8799? [7]Forsothe Josephat seide, Is not here ony profete of the Lord, that we axe bi hym?
[8]And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559[H8799] unto JehoshaphatH3092, There is yet oneH259 manH376, MicaiahH4321 the sonH1121 of ImlahH3229, by whom we may enquireH1875[H8800] of the LORDH3068: but I hateH8130[H8804] him; for he doth not prophesyH5012[H8691] goodH2896 concerning me, but evilH7451. And JehoshaphatH3092 saidH559[H8799], Let not the kingH4428 sayH559 soH8799. [8]And the kyng of Israel seide to Josephat, O man, Mychee, sone of Hiemla, is left, bi whom we moun axe the Lord; but Y hate hym, for he prophesieth not good to me, but yuel. To whome Josephat seide, Kyng, spek thou not so.
[9]Then the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 calledH7121[H8799] anH259 officerH5631, and saidH559[H8799], HastenH4116[H8761] hither MicaiahH4321 the sonH1121 of ImlahH3229. [9]Therfor the kyng of Israel clepide summe chaumburleyn, and seide to hym, Haste thou to brynge Mychee, sone of Hiemla.
[10]And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 and JehoshaphatH3092 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063 satH3427[H8802] eachH376 on his throneH3678, having put onH3847[H8794] their robesH899, in a void placeH1637 in the entranceH6607 of the gateH8179 of SamariaH8111; and all the prophetsH5030 prophesiedH5012[H8693] before themH6440. [10]Forsothe the kyng of Israel, and Josephat, kyng of Juda, saten, ech in his trone, clothid with kyngis ournement, in the large hows bisidis the dore of the yate of Samarie; and alle prophetis prophecieden in the siyt of hem.
[11]And ZedekiahH6667 the sonH1121 of ChenaanahH3668 madeH6213[H8799] him hornsH7161 of ironH1270: and he saidH559[H8799], Thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068, With these shalt thou pushH5055[H8762] the SyriansH758, until thou have consumedH3615 themH8763. [11]Also Sedechie, sone of Chanaan, made to hym silf hornes of yrun, and seide, The Lord God seith these thingis, With these thou schalt scatere Sirye, til thou do awei it.
[12]And all the prophetsH5030 prophesiedH5012[H8737] so, sayingH559[H8800], Go upH5927[H8798] to RamothgileadH7433[H1568], and prosperH6743[H8685]: for the LORDH3068 shall deliverH5414[H8804] it into the king'sH4428 handH3027. [12]And alle prophetis prophecieden in lijk maner, and seiden, Stye thou in to Ramoth of Galaad, and go thou with prosperite; and the Lord schal bitake thin enemyes in the hond of the kyng.
[13]And the messengerH4397 that was goneH1980[H8804] to callH7121[H8800] MicaiahH4321 spakeH1696[H8765] unto him, sayingH559[H8800], Behold now, the wordsH1697 of the prophetsH5030 declare goodH2896 unto the kingH4428 with oneH259 mouthH6310: let thy wordH1697, I pray thee, be like the wordH1697 of oneH259 of them, and speakH1696[H8765] that which is goodH2896. [13]Sotheli the messanger, that yede to clepe Mychee, spak to hym, and seide, Lo! the wordis of prophetis with o mouth prechen goodis to the kyng; therfor thi word be lijk hem, and speke thou goodis.
[14]And MicaiahH4321 saidH559[H8799], As the LORDH3068 livethH2416, what the LORDH3068 saithH559[H8799] unto me, that will I speakH1696.[H8762] [14]To whom Mychee seide, The Lord lyueth, for what euer thing the Lord schal seie to me, Y schal speke this.
[15]So he cameH935[H8799] to the kingH4428. And the kingH4428 saidH559[H8799] unto him, MicaiahH4321, shall we goH3212[H8799] against RamothgileadH7433[H1568] to battleH4421, or shall we forbearH2308[H8799]? And he answeredH559[H8799] him, GoH5927[H8798], and prosperH6743[H8685]: for the LORDH3068 shall deliverH5414[H8804] it into the handH3027 of the kingH4428. [15]Therfor he cam to the kyng. And the kyng seide to hym, Mychee, owen we go in to Ramoth of Galaad to fiyte, ether ceesse? To which kyng he answeride, Stie thou, and go in prosperite; and the Lord schal bitake it `in to the hond of the kyng.
[16]And the kingH4428 saidH559[H8799] unto him, How many timesH6471 shall I adjureH7650[H8688] thee that thou tellH1696[H8762] me nothing but that which is trueH571 in the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068? [16]Forsothe the kyng seide to hym, Eft and eft Y coniure thee, that thou speke not to me, not but that that is soth in the name of the Lord.
[17]And he saidH559[H8799], I sawH7200[H8804] all IsraelH3478 scatteredH6327[H8737] upon the hillsH2022, as sheepH6629 that have not a shepherdH7462[H8802]: and the LORDH3068 saidH559[H8799], These have no masterH113: let them returnH7725[H8799] every manH376 to his houseH1004 in peaceH7965. [17]And he seide, Y siy al Israel scaterid in the hillis, as scheep not hauynge a scheepherde; and the Lord seide, These han no lord, ech man turne ayen in to his hows in pees.
[18]And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559[H8799] unto JehoshaphatH3092, Did I not tellH559[H8804] thee that he would prophesyH5012[H8691] no goodH2896 concerning me, but evilH7451? [18]Therfor the kyng of Israel seide to Josaphat, Whethir Y seide not to thee, that he prophecieth not good to me, but euere yuel?
[19]And he saidH559[H8799], HearH8085[H8798] thou therefore the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068: I sawH7200[H8804] the LORDH3068 sittingH3427[H8802] on his throneH3678, and all the hostH6635 of heavenH8064 standingH5975[H8802] by him on his right handH3225 and on his leftH8040. [19]Sotheli thilke Mychee addide, and seide, Therefore here thou the word of the Lord; Y siy the Lord sittynge on his trone, and Y siy al the oost of heuene stondynge nyy hym, on the riyt side and on the left side.
[20]And the LORDH3068 saidH559[H8799], Who shall persuadeH6601[H8762] AhabH256, that he may go upH5927[H8799] and fallH5307[H8799] at RamothgileadH7433[H1568]? And one saidH559[H8799] on this mannerH3541, and another saidH559[H8802] on that mannerH3541. [20]And the Lord seide, Who schal disseyue Achab, kyng of Israel, that he stye, and falle in Ramoth of Galaad? And oon seide siche wordis, and another in anothir maner.
[21]And there came forthH3318[H8799] a spiritH7307, and stoodH5975[H8799] beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, and saidH559[H8799], I will persuadeH6601 himH8762. [21]Sotheli a spirit yede out, and stood bifor the Lord, and seide, Y schal disseyue hym. To whom the Lord spak, In what thing?
[22]And the LORDH3068 saidH559[H8799] unto him, Wherewith? And he saidH559[H8799], I will go forthH3318[H8799], and I will be a lyingH8267 spiritH7307 in the mouthH6310 of all his prophetsH5030. And he saidH559[H8799], Thou shalt persuadeH6601[H8762] him, and prevailH3201[H8799] also: go forthH3318[H8798], and doH6213 soH8798. [22]And he seide, Y schal go out, and Y schal be a spirit of leesyng in the mouth of alle hise prophetis. And the Lord seide, Thou schalt disseyue, and schalt haue the maystry; go thou out, and do so.
[23]Now therefore, behold, the LORDH3068 hath putH5414[H8804] a lyingH8267 spiritH7307 in the mouthH6310 of all these thy prophetsH5030, and the LORDH3068 hath spokenH1696[H8765] evil concerning theeH7451. [23]Now therfor, lo! the Lord yaf a spirit of leesyng in the mouth of alle prophetis that ben here; and the Lord spak yuel ayens thee.
[24]But ZedekiahH6667 the sonH1121 of ChenaanahH3668 went nearH5066[H8799], and smoteH5221[H8686] MicaiahH4321 on the cheekH3895, and saidH559[H8799], Which wayH335 wentH5674[H8804] the SpiritH7307 of the LORDH3068 from me to speakH1696 unto theeH8763? [24]Forsothe Sedechie, sone of Canaan, neiyede, and smoot Mychee on the cheke, and seide, Whether the Spirit of the Lord forsook me, and spak to thee?
[25]And MicaiahH4321 saidH559[H8799], Behold, thou shalt seeH7200[H8802] in that dayH3117, when thou shalt goH935[H8799] into an innerH2315 chamberH2315 to hideH2247 thyselfH8736. [25]And Mychee seide, Thou schalt se in that dai, whanne thou schalt go in to closet with ynne closet, that thou be hid.
[26]And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559[H8799], TakeH3947[H8798] MicaiahH4321, and carry him backH7725[H8685] unto AmonH526 the governorH8269 of the cityH5892, and to JoashH3101 the king'sH4428 sonH1121; [26]And the kyng of Israel seide, Take ye Mychee, and dwelle he at Amon, prince of the citee, and at Joas, the sone of Amalech;
[27]And sayH559[H8804], Thus saithH559[H8804] the kingH4428, PutH7760[H8798] this fellow in the prisonH1004[H3608], and feedH398[H8685] him with breadH3899 of afflictionH3906 and with waterH4325 of afflictionH3906, until I comeH935[H8800] in peaceH7965. [27]and seie ye to hem, The kyng seith these thingis, Sende ye this man in to prisoun, and susteyne ye hym with breed of tribulacioun, and with watir of angwisch, til Y turne ayen in pees.
[28]And MicaiahH4321 saidH559[H8799], If thou returnH7725[H8799] at allH7725[H8800] in peaceH7965, the LORDH3068 hath not spokenH1696[H8765] by me. And he saidH559[H8799], HearkenH8085[H8798], O people, every one of youH5971. [28]And Mychee seide, If thou schalt turne ayen in pees, the Lord spak not in me. And he seide, Here ye, alle puplis.
[29]So the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 and JehoshaphatH3092 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063 went upH5927[H8799] to RamothgileadH7433.[H1568] [29]Therfor the kyng of Israel stiede, and Josaphat, kyng of Juda, in to Ramoth of Galaad.
[30]And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559[H8799] unto JehoshaphatH3092, I will disguiseH2664[H8692] myself, and enterH935[H8800] into the battleH4421; but put thou onH3847[H8798] thy robesH899. And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 disguisedH2664[H8691] himself, and wentH935[H8799] into the battleH4421. [30]Therfor the kyng of Israel seide to Josephat, Take thou armeris, and entre thou in to batel, and be thou clothid in thi clothis, that is, noble signes of the kyng. Certis the kyng of Israel chaungide hise clothing, and entride in to batel.
[31]But the kingH4428 of SyriaH758 commandedH6680[H8765] his thirtyH7970 and twoH8147 captainsH8269 that had rule over his chariotsH7393, sayingH559[H8800], FightH3898[H8735] neither with smallH6996 nor greatH1419, save only with the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478. [31]Sotheli the kyng of Sirie hadde comaundid to two and thritti princes of charis, and seide, Ye schulen not fiyte ayens ony man lesse, ethir more, no but ayens the kyng of Israel oonli.
[32]And it came to pass, when the captainsH8269 of the chariotsH7393 sawH7200[H8800] JehoshaphatH3092, that they saidH559[H8804], Surely it is the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478. And they turned asideH5493[H8799] to fightH3898[H8736] against him: and JehoshaphatH3092 cried outH2199.[H8799] [32]Therfor whanne the princes of charis hadden seyn Josephat, thei suposiden that he was king of Israel, and bi feersnesse maad thei fouyten ayens hym.
[33]And it came to pass, when the captainsH8269 of the chariotsH7393 perceivedH7200[H8800] that it was not the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, that they turned backH7725[H8799] from pursuing himH310. [33]And Josephat criede; and the princis of charis vndurstoden, that it was not the king of Israel, and thei ceessiden fro hym.
[34]And a certain manH376 drewH4900[H8804] a bowH7198 at a ventureH8537, and smoteH5221[H8686] the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 between the jointsH1694 of the harnessH8302: wherefore he saidH559[H8799] unto the driver of his chariotH7395, TurnH2015[H8798] thine handH3027, and carry me outH3318[H8685] of the hostH4264; for I am woundedH2470.[H8717] [34]Sotheli sum man bente a bowe, and dresside an arowe in to vncerteyn, and bi hap he smoot the kyng of Israel bitwixe the lunge and the stomak. And the kyng seide to his charietere, Turne thin hond, and cast me out of the oost, for Y am woundid greuousli.
[35]And the battleH4421 increasedH5927[H8799] that dayH3117: and the kingH4428 was stayed upH5975[H8716] in his chariotH4818 againstH5227 the SyriansH758, and diedH4191[H8799] at evenH6153: and the bloodH1818 ran outH3332[H8799] of the woundH4347 into the midstH2436 of the chariotH7393. [35]Therfor batel was ioyned in that dai, and the kyng of Israel stood in his chare ayens men of Sirie, and he was deed at euentid. Forsothe the blood of the wounde fletide doun in to the bothome of the chare.
[36]And there wentH5674[H8799] a proclamationH7440 throughout the hostH4264 about the going downH935[H8800] of the sunH8121, sayingH559[H8800], Every manH376 to his cityH5892, and every manH376 to his own countryH776. [36]And a criere sownede in al the oost, before that the sunne yede doun, and seide, Ech man turne ayen in to his citee, and in to his lond.
[37]So the kingH4428 diedH4191[H8799], and was broughtH935[H8799] to SamariaH8111; and they buriedH6912[H8799] the kingH4428 in SamariaH8111. [37]Forsothe the kyng was deed, and was borun in to Samarie; and thei birieden the kyng of Samarie.
[38]And one washedH7857[H8799] the chariotH7393 in the poolH1295 of SamariaH8111; and the dogsH3611 licked upH3952[H8799] his bloodH1818; and they washedH7364[H8804] his armourH2185; according unto the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 which he spakeH1696.[H8765] [38]And thei waischiden his chare in the cisterne of Samarie, and doggis lickiden his blood, and thei wayschiden the reynes, bi the word of the Lord whiche he hadde spoke.
[39]Now the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of AhabH256, and all that he didH6213[H8804], and the ivoryH8127 houseH1004 which he madeH1129[H8804], and all the citiesH5892 that he builtH1129[H8804], are they not writtenH3789[H8803] in the bookH5612 of the chroniclesH1697[H3117] of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478? [39]Sotheli the residue of wordis of Achab, and alle thingis whiche he dide, and the hows of yuer which he bildide, and of alle citees whiche he bildide, whether these ben not writun in the book of wordis of daies of the kyngis of Israel?
[40]So AhabH256 sleptH7901[H8799] with his fathersH1; and AhaziahH274 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his steadH8799. [40]Therfor Achab slepte with hise fadris, and Ocozie, his sone, regnede for hym.
[41]And JehoshaphatH3092 the sonH1121 of AsaH609 began to reignH4427[H8804] over JudahH3063 in the fourthH702 yearH8141 of AhabH256 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478. [41]Forsothe Josephat, sone of Asa, bigan to regne on Juda in the fourthe yeer of Achab, kyng of Israel.
[42]JehoshaphatH3092 was thirtyH7970 and fiveH2568 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when he began to reignH4427[H8800]; and he reignedH4427[H8804] twentyH6242 and fiveH2568 yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389. And his mother'sH517 nameH8034 was AzubahH5806 the daughterH1323 of ShilhiH7977. [42]Josephat was of fyue and thretti yeer, whanne he bigan to regne, and he regnede fyue and twenti yeer in Jerusalem; the name of his modir was Azuba, douyter of Salai.
[43]And he walkedH3212[H8799] in all the waysH1870 of AsaH609 his fatherH1; he turned not asideH5493[H8804] from it, doingH6213[H8800] that which was rightH3477 in the eyesH5869 of the LORDH3068: nevertheless the high placesH1116 were not taken awayH5493[H8804]; for the peopleH5971 offeredH2076[H8764] and burnt incenseH6999[H8764] yet in the high placesH1116. [43]And he yede in al the weye of Asa, his fadir, and bowide not fro it; and he dide that, that was riytful in the siyt of the Lord.
[44]And JehoshaphatH3092 made peaceH7999[H8686] with the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478. [44]Netheles he dide not awey hiy thingis, for yit the puple made sacrifice, and brente encense in hiy places.
[45]Now the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of JehoshaphatH3092, and his mightH1369 that he shewedH6213[H8804], and how he warredH3898[H8738], are they not writtenH3789[H8803] in the bookH5612 of the chroniclesH1697[H3117] of the kingsH4428 of JudahH3063? [45]And Josephat hadde pees with the king of Israel.
