[1]Then Nahas ye Ammonite came vp, & besieged Iabes in Gilead: And all the men of Iabes sayd vnto Nahas, Make a couenaut with vs, and we wilbe thy seruauntes [1]Then NahashH5176 the AmmoniteH5984 came upH5927[H8799], and encampedH2583[H8799] against JabeshgileadH3003[H1568]: and all the menH582 of JabeshH3003 saidH559[H8799] unto NahashH5176, MakeH3772[H8798] a covenantH1285 with us, and we will serveH5647 theeH8799.
[2]And Nahas the Ammonite aunswered them: In this will I make a couenaunt with you, if I may thrust out al your right eyes, and bring that shame vpon all Israel [2]And NahashH5176 the AmmoniteH5984 answeredH559[H8799] them, On thisH2063 condition will I makeH3772[H8799] a covenant with you, that I may thrust outH5365[H8800] all your rightH3225 eyesH5869, and layH7760[H8804] it for a reproachH2781 upon all IsraelH3478.
[3]To whom the elders of Iabes sayde: Geue vs seuen dayes respite, that we may sende messengers vnto all ye coastes of Israel: and then if there be no man to deliuer vs, we will come out to thee [3]And the eldersH2205 of JabeshH3003 saidH559[H8799] unto him, Give us sevenH7651 days'H3117 respiteH7503[H8685], that we may sendH7971[H8799] messengersH4397 unto all the coastsH1366 of IsraelH3478: and then, if there be no man to saveH3467[H8688] us, we will come outH3318 to theeH8804.
[4]Then came the messengers to Gibea of Saul, and tolde this tydinges in the eares of the people: And all the people lift vp their voyces, and wept [4]Then cameH935[H8799] the messengersH4397 to GibeahH1390 of SaulH7586, and toldH1696[H8762] the tidingsH1697 in the earsH241 of the peopleH5971: and all the peopleH5971 lifted upH5375[H8799] their voicesH6963, and weptH1058.[H8799]
[5]And beholde, Saul came folowing the cattell out of the fielde, and Saul sayde: what alyeth this people that thei wepe? And they tolde him the tydinges of the men of Iabes [5]And, behold, SaulH7586 cameH935[H8804] afterH310 the herdH1241 out of the fieldH7704; and SaulH7586 saidH559[H8799], What aileth the peopleH5971 that they weepH1058[H8799]? And they toldH5608[H8762] him the tidingsH1697 of the menH582 of JabeshH3003.
[6]And the spirite of God came vpon Saul when he heard those tydinges, & he was exceeding angrie [6]And the SpiritH7307 of GodH430 cameH6743[H8799] upon SaulH7586 when he heardH8085[H8800] those tidingsH1697, and his angerH639 was kindledH2734[H8799] greatlyH3966.
[7]And toke a yoke of oxen, & hewed them in peeces, and sent them thorowout all the coastes of Israel by the handes of messengers, saying: Whosoeuer cometh not foorth after Saul and after Samuel, so shal his oxen be serued. And the feare of the Lord fell on the people, and they came out with one consent [7]And he tookH3947[H8799] a yokeH6776 of oxenH1241, and hewed them in piecesH5408[H8762], and sentH7971[H8762] them throughout all the coastsH1366 of IsraelH3478 by the handsH3027 of messengersH4397, sayingH559[H8800], Whosoever cometh not forthH3318[H8802] afterH310 SaulH7586 and afterH310 SamuelH8050, so shall it be doneH6213[H8735] unto his oxenH1241. And the fearH6343 of the LORDH3068 fellH5307[H8799] on the peopleH5971, and they came outH3318[H8799] with oneH259 consentH376.
[8]And whe he numbred them in Bezek, the children of Israel were three hundred thousand men, and the men of Iuda thirtie thousande [8]And when he numberedH6485[H8799] them in BezekH966, the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 were threeH7969 hundredH3967 thousandH505, and the menH376 of JudahH3063 thirtyH7970 thousandH505.
[9]And they sayd vnto the messengers that came: So say vnto the men of Iabes in Gilead, To morowe by that time ye sunne be hotte ye shal haue helpe. And the messengers came, and shewed it to the men of Iabes, which were glad [9]And they saidH559[H8799] unto the messengersH4397 that cameH935[H8802], Thus shall ye sayH559[H8799] unto the menH376 of JabeshgileadH3003[H1568], To morrowH4279, by that time the sunH8121 be hotH2527, ye shall have helpH8668. And the messengersH4397 cameH935[H8799] and shewedH5046[H8686] it to the menH582 of JabeshH3003; and they were gladH8055.[H8799]
[10]Therfore the men of Iabes sayde: To morowe we will come out vnto you, and ye shall do with vs all that pleaseth you [10]Therefore the menH582 of JabeshH3003 saidH559[H8799], To morrowH4279 we will come outH3318[H8799] unto you, and ye shall doH6213[H8804] with us all that seemethH5869 good unto youH2896.
[11]And on the morowe Saul put the people in three partes, & they came in vpon the hoast in the morning watche, and slue the Ammonites vntill the heate of the day: And they that remayned, were skattered, so that two of them were not left together [11]And it was so on the morrowH4283, that SaulH7586 putH7760[H8799] the peopleH5971 in threeH7969 companiesH7218; and they cameH935[H8799] into the midstH8432 of the hostH4264 in the morningH1242 watchH821, and slewH5221[H8686] the AmmonitesH5983 until the heatH2527 of the dayH3117: and it came to pass, that they which remainedH7604[H8737] were scatteredH6327[H8799], so that twoH8147 of them were not leftH7604[H8738] togetherH3162.
[12]And the people sayd vnto Samuel: Who is he that sayde, shal Saul raigne ouer vs? bring those men, that we may slay them [12]And the peopleH5971 saidH559[H8799] unto SamuelH8050, Who is he that saidH559[H8802], Shall SaulH7586 reignH4427[H8799] over us? bringH5414[H8798] the menH582, that we may put them to deathH4191.[H8686]
[13]And Saul sayde: There shall no man dye this day: For to day the Lorde hath saued Israel [13]And SaulH7586 saidH559[H8799], There shall not a manH376 be put to deathH4191[H8714] this dayH3117: for to dayH3117 the LORDH3068 hath wroughtH6213[H8804] salvationH8668 in IsraelH3478.
[14]Then sayde Samuel vnto the people: Come, that we may go to Gilgal, and renue the kingdome there [14]Then saidH559[H8799] SamuelH8050 to the peopleH5971, ComeH3212[H8798], and let us goH3212[H8799] to GilgalH1537, and renewH2318[H8762] the kingdom thereH4410.
[15]And all the people went to Gilgal, and made Saul king there before the Lord in Gilgal, and there they offred peace offringes before the Lorde: And there Saul and al the men of Israel reioyced exceedingly [15]And all the peopleH5971 wentH3212[H8799] to GilgalH1537; and there they made SaulH7586 kingH4427[H8686] beforeH6440 the LORDH3068 in GilgalH1537; and there they sacrificedH2076[H8799] sacrificesH2077 of peace offeringsH8002 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068; and there SaulH7586 and all the menH582 of IsraelH3478 rejoicedH8055[H8799] greatlyH3966.
