[1]Then came Dauid to Nob to Ahimelech the priest, and Ahimelech was astonied at the meeting of Dauid, & sayd vnto him: Why art thou alone and no man with thee [1]Then cameH935[H8799] DavidH1732 to NobH5011 to AhimelechH288 the priestH3548: and AhimelechH288 was afraidH2729[H8799] at the meetingH7125[H8800] of DavidH1732, and saidH559[H8799] unto him, Why art thou alone, and no man with theeH376?
[2]And Dauid said to Ahimelech the priest: The king hath commaunded me a certaine thing, and hath sayd vnto me, Let no man know wher about I send thee, and what I haue commaunded thee: And I haue appoynted my seruauntes to suche and suche places [2]And DavidH1732 saidH559[H8799] unto AhimelechH288 the priestH3548, The kingH4428 hath commandedH6680[H8765] me a businessH1697, and hath saidH559[H8799] unto me, Let no manH376 knowH3045[H8799] any thingH3972 of the businessH1697 whereabout I sendH7971[H8802] thee, and what I have commandedH6680[H8765] thee: and I have appointedH3045[H8776] my servantsH5288 to suchH6423 and suchH492 a placeH4725.
[3]Nowe therfore if thou hast ought vnder thyne hand, geue me fyue loaues of bread, or what commeth to hande [3]Now therefore what isH3426 under thine handH3027? giveH5414[H8798] me fiveH2568 loaves of breadH3899 in mine handH3027, or what there is presentH4672.[H8737]
[4]And the priest aunswered Dauid, and sayd: There is no common bread vnder myne hand, but here is halowed bread: if the young me haue kept them selues, specially from women [4]And the priestH3548 answeredH6030[H8799] DavidH1732, and saidH559[H8799], There is no commonH2455 breadH3899 under mine handH3027, but there isH3426 hallowedH6944 breadH3899; if the young menH5288 have keptH8104[H8738] themselves at leastH389 from womenH802.
[5]Dauid aunswered the priest, and sayd vnto him: Of a trueth, women hath ben separated fro vs this two or three days since I came out, & the vessels of the young men were holy: Howebeit, this way is vnpure, and howe muche more shall there be holines in the vessell [5]And DavidH1732 answeredH6030[H8799] the priestH3548, and saidH559[H8799] unto him, Of a truthH518 womenH802 have been keptH6113[H8803] from us about these threeH8032 daysH8543, since I came outH3318[H8800], and the vesselsH3627 of the young menH5288 are holyH6944, and the bread is in a mannerH1870 commonH2455, yea, though it were sanctifiedH6942[H8799] this dayH3117 in the vesselH3627.
[6]And so the priest gaue him halowed bread: for there was none other bread there, saue the shew bread that was taken from before the Lord, to put freshe bread there the day that it was taken away [6]So the priestH3548 gaveH5414[H8799] him hallowedH6944 bread: for there was no breadH3899 there but the shewbreadH3899[H6440], that was takenH5493[H8716] from beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, to putH7760[H8800] hotH2527 breadH3899 in the dayH3117 when it was taken awayH3947.[H8736]
[7](And there was there the same day a certaine man, of the seruautes of Saul, abyding before ye Lord, named Doeg, an Edomite, the chiefest of Sauls heardmen. [7]Now a certain manH376 of the servantsH5650 of SaulH7586 was there that dayH3117, detainedH6113[H8737] beforeH6440 the LORDH3068; and his nameH8034 was DoegH1673, an EdomiteH130, the chiefestH47 of the herdmenH7462[H8802] that belonged to SaulH7586.
[8]And Dauid sayd vnto Ahimelech: Is not here vnder thyne hand either speare or sworde? for I haue neither brought my sword nor my harnesse with me, because the kinges busines required haste [8]And DavidH1732 saidH559[H8799] unto AhimelechH288, And is thereH3426 notH371 here under thine handH3027 spearH2595 or swordH2719? for I have neither broughtH3947[H8804] my swordH2719 nor my weaponsH3627 with meH3027, because the king'sH4428 businessH1697 requiredH1961[H8804] hasteH5169.[H8803]
[9]And the priest sayd: The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom thou sluest in the valley of Elah, beholde it is here wrapt in a cloth behind the Ephod: If thou wilt take that, take it: for ther is no other saue that here. And Dauid sayd: There is none to that, geue it me [9]And the priestH3548 saidH559[H8799], The swordH2719 of GoliathH1555 the PhilistineH6430, whom thou slewestH5221[H8689] in the valleyH6010 of ElahH425, behold, it is here wrappedH3874[H8803] in a clothH8071 behindH310 the ephodH646: if thou wilt takeH3947[H8799] that, takeH3947[H8798] it: for there is no otherH312 saveH2108 that hereH2088. And DavidH1732 saidH559[H8799], There is none like that; giveH5414 it meH8798.
[10]And Dauid arose, & fled the same day from the presence of Saul, and went to Achis the king of Gath [10]And DavidH1732 aroseH6965[H8799], and fledH1272[H8799] that dayH3117 for fearH6440 of SaulH7586, and wentH935[H8799] to AchishH397 the kingH4428 of GathH1661.
[11]And the seruauntes of Achis sayde vnto him: Is not this Dauid the king of the land? Dyd they not sing vnto him in daunses, saying: Saul hath slayne his thousand, and Dauid his ten thousand [11]And the servantsH5650 of AchishH397 saidH559[H8799] unto him, Is not this DavidH1732 the kingH4428 of the landH776? did they not singH6030[H8799] one to another of himH2088 in dancesH4246, sayingH559[H8800], SaulH7586 hath slainH5221[H8689] his thousandsH505, and DavidH1732 his ten thousandsH7233?
[12]And Dauid put those wordes into his heart, & was sore afrayde of Achis the king of Gath [12]And DavidH1732 laid upH7760[H8799] these wordsH1697 in his heartH3824, and was soreH3966 afraidH3372[H8799] ofH6440 AchishH397 the kingH4428 of GathH1661.
[13]And he chaunged his speache before them, and fained him selfe mad in their handes, and scrabled on the doores of the gate, and let his spettell fall downe vpon his beard [13]And he changedH8138[H8762] his behaviourH2940 beforeH5869 them, and feigned himself madH1984[H8704] in their handsH3027, and scrabbledH8427[H8762] on the doorsH1817 of the gateH8179, and let his spittleH7388 fall downH3381[H8686] upon his beardH2206.
[14]Then sayd Achis vnto his seruauntes: Lo, ye see that this man is besyde him selfe, wherfore then haue ye brought him to me [14]Then saidH559[H8799] AchishH397 unto his servantsH5650, Lo, ye seeH7200[H8799] the manH376 is madH7696[H8693]: wherefore then have ye broughtH935 him to meH8686?
[15]Haue I neede of mad men, that ye haue brought this felowe to play the mad man in my presence? Shall he come into my house [15]Have I needH2638 of mad menH7696[H8794], that ye have broughtH935[H8689] this fellow to play the mad manH7696[H8692] in my presence? shall this fellow comeH935[H8799] into my houseH1004?
