[2]And it came to pass, whileH3117 the arkH727 abodeH3427[H8800] in KirjathjearimH7157, that the timeH3117 was longH7235[H8799]; for it was twentyH6242 yearsH8141: and all the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 lamentedH5091[H8735] afterH310 the LORDH3068.
[3]And SamuelH8050 spakeH559[H8799] unto all the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, sayingH559[H8800], If ye do returnH7725[H8802] unto the LORDH3068 with all your heartsH3824, then put awayH5493[H8685] the strangeH5236 godsH430 and AshtarothH6252 from amongH8432 you, and prepareH3559[H8685] your heartsH3824 unto the LORDH3068, and serveH5647[H8798] him only: and he will deliverH5337[H8686] you out of the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430.
[4]Then the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 did put awayH5493[H8686] BaalimH1168 and AshtarothH6252, and servedH5647[H8799] the LORD onlyH3068.
[5]And SamuelH8050 saidH559[H8799], GatherH6908[H8798] all IsraelH3478 to MizpehH4708, and I will prayH6419[H8691] for you unto the LORDH3068.
[6]And they gathered togetherH6908[H8735] to MizpehH4709, and drewH7579[H8799] waterH4325, and poured it outH8210[H8799] beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, and fastedH6684[H8799] on that dayH3117, and saidH559[H8799] there, We have sinnedH2398[H8804] against the LORDH3068. And SamuelH8050 judgedH8199[H8799] the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 in MizpehH4708.
[7]And when the PhilistinesH6430 heardH8085[H8799] that the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 were gathered togetherH6908[H8694] to MizpehH4708, the lordsH5633 of the PhilistinesH6430 went upH5927[H8799] against IsraelH3478. And when the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 heardH8085[H8799] it, they were afraidH3372[H8799] ofH6440 the PhilistinesH6430.
[8]And the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 saidH559[H8799] to SamuelH8050, CeaseH2790[H8686] not to cryH2199[H8800] unto the LORDH3068 our GodH430 for us, that he will saveH3467[H8686] us out of the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430.
[9]And SamuelH8050 tookH3947[H8799] aH259 suckingH2461 lambH2924, and offeredH5927[H8686] it for a burnt offeringH5930 whollyH3632 unto the LORDH3068: and SamuelH8050 criedH2199[H8799] unto the LORDH3068 for IsraelH3478; and the LORDH3068 heardH6030 himH8799.
[10]And as SamuelH8050 was offering upH5927[H8688] the burnt offeringH5930, the PhilistinesH6430 drew nearH5066[H8738] to battleH4421 against IsraelH3478: but the LORDH3068 thunderedH7481[H8686] with a greatH1419 thunderH6963 on that dayH3117 upon the PhilistinesH6430, and discomfitedH2000[H8799] them; and they were smittenH5062[H8735] beforeH6440 IsraelH3478.
[11]And the menH582 of IsraelH3478 went outH3318[H8799] of MizpehH4709, and pursuedH7291[H8799] the PhilistinesH6430, and smoteH5221[H8686] them, until they came under BethcarH1033.
[12]Then SamuelH8050 tookH3947[H8799] aH259 stoneH68, and setH7760[H8799] it between MizpehH4709 and ShenH8129, and calledH7121[H8799] the nameH8034 of it EbenezerH72, sayingH559[H8799], Hitherto hath the LORDH3068 helpedH5826 usH8804.
[13]So the PhilistinesH6430 were subduedH3665[H8735], and they cameH935[H8800] no moreH3254[H8804] into the coastH1366 of IsraelH3478: and the handH3027 of the LORDH3068 was against the PhilistinesH6430 all the daysH3117 of SamuelH8050.
[14]And the citiesH5892 which the PhilistinesH6430 had takenH3947[H8804] from IsraelH3478 were restoredH7725[H8799] to IsraelH3478, from EkronH6138 even unto GathH1661; and the coastsH1366 thereof did IsraelH3478 deliverH5337[H8689] out of the handsH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430. And there was peaceH7965 between IsraelH3478 and the AmoritesH567.
[15]And SamuelH8050 judgedH8199[H8799] IsraelH3478 all the daysH3117 of his lifeH2416.
[16]And he wentH1980[H8804] fromH1767 yearH8141 to yearH8141 in circuitH5437[H8804] to BethelH1008, and GilgalH1537, and MizpehH4709, and judgedH8199[H8804] IsraelH3478 in all those placesH4725.
[17]And his returnH8666 was to RamahH7414; for there was his houseH1004; and there he judgedH8199[H8804] IsraelH3478; and there he builtH1129[H8799] an altarH4196 unto the LORDH3068.
