[1]When Samuel was old, he made his sonnes iudges ouer Israel |
[1]And it came to pass, when SamuelH8050 was oldH2204[H8804], that he madeH7760[H8799] his sonsH1121 judgesH8199[H8802] over IsraelH3478. |
[2]The name of his eldest sonne was Ioel, and the name of the seconde Abia, and they were iudges in Beerseba |
[2]Now the nameH8034 of his firstbornH1121[H1060] was JoelH3100; and the nameH8034 of his secondH4932, AbiahH29: they were judgesH8199[H8802] in BeershebaH884. |
[3]And his sonnes walked not in his wayes, but turned aside after lucre, and tooke rewarde, and peruerted the ryght |
[3]And his sonsH1121 walkedH1980[H8804] not in his waysH1870, but turned asideH5186[H8799] afterH310 lucreH1215, and tookH3947[H8799] bribesH7810, and pervertedH5186[H8686] judgmentH4941. |
[4]Then all the elders of Israel gathered them together, and came to Samuel vnto Rama |
[4]Then all the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478 gathered themselves togetherH6908[H8691], and cameH935[H8799] to SamuelH8050 unto RamahH7414, |
[5]And sayd vnto him: Beholde, thou art olde, and thy sonnes walke not in thy wayes: Now therfore make vs a king to iudge vs, as all other nations [haue |
[5]And saidH559[H8799] unto him, Behold, thou art oldH2204[H8804], and thy sonsH1121 walkH1980[H8804] not in thy waysH1870: now makeH7760[H8798] us a kingH4428 to judgeH8199[H8800] us like all the nationsH1471. |
[6]But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, geue vs a king to iudge vs: And Samuel prayed vnto the lorde |
[6]But the thingH1697 displeasedH3415[H8799][H5869] SamuelH8050, when they saidH559[H8804], GiveH5414[H8798] us a kingH4428 to judgeH8199[H8800] us. And SamuelH8050 prayedH6419[H8691] unto the LORDH3068. |
[7]And the Lorde saide vnto Samuel, Heare the voyce of the people in all that they say vnto thee: For they haue not cast thee away, but they haue cast me away, that I should not raigne ouer them |
[7]And the LORDH3068 saidH559[H8799] unto SamuelH8050, HearkenH8085[H8798] unto the voiceH6963 of the peopleH5971 in all that they sayH559[H8799] unto thee: for they have not rejectedH3988[H8804] thee, but they have rejectedH3988[H8804] me, that I should not reignH4427 over themH8800. |
[8]And as they haue euer done sence I brought them out of Egypt vnto this day, and haue forsaken me, and serued other gods, euen so do they vnto thee |
[8]According to all the worksH4639 which they have doneH6213[H8804] since the dayH3117 that I brought them upH5927[H8687] out of EgyptH4714 even unto this dayH3117, wherewith they have forsakenH5800[H8799] me, and servedH5647[H8799] otherH312 godsH430, so doH6213 they also unto theeH8802. |
[9]Now therefore hearken vnto their voyce: howbeit yet testifie vnto them, & shewe them the maner of the king that shall raigne ouer them |
[9]Now therefore hearkenH8085[H8798] unto their voiceH6963: howbeitH389 yet protestH5749[H8686] solemnlyH5749[H8687] unto them, and shewH5046[H8689] them the mannerH4941 of the kingH4428 that shall reignH4427 over themH8799. |
[10]And Samuel tolde all the wordes of the Lorde vnto the people that asked a king of him |
[10]And SamuelH8050 toldH559[H8799] all the wordsH1697 of the LORDH3068 unto the peopleH5971 that askedH7592[H8802] of him a kingH4428. |
[11]And he said: This shal be the maner of the king that shall raigne ouer you, he will take your sonnes and put them to his charets, and make his horsemen of them, to run before his charet |
[11]And he saidH559[H8799], This will be the mannerH4941 of the kingH4428 that shall reignH4427[H8799] over you: He will takeH3947[H8799] your sonsH1121, and appointH7760[H8804] them for himself, for his chariotsH4818, and to be his horsemenH6571; and some shall runH7323[H8804] beforeH6440 his chariotsH4818. |
[12]And will make him of the captaines ouer thousandes and ouer fifties, and will set them to eare his grounde, and to gather in his haruest, & to make instrumentes of warre, and thinges that serue for his charets |
[12]And he will appointH7760[H8800] him captainsH8269 over thousandsH505, and captainsH8269 over fiftiesH2572; and will set them to earH2790[H8800] his groundH2758, and to reapH7114[H8800] his harvestH7105, and to makeH6213[H8800] his instrumentsH3627 of warH4421, and instrumentsH3627 of his chariotsH7393. |
[13]And he will take your daughters, and make them appoticaries, cookes, and bakers |
[13]And he will takeH3947[H8799] your daughtersH1323 to be confectionariesH7548, and to be cooksH2879, and to be bakersH644.[H8802] |
[14]And he shall take your fieldes, and your vineyardes, and your best oliue trees, and geue them to his seruauntes |
[14]And he will takeH3947[H8799] your fieldsH7704, and your vineyardsH3754, and your oliveyardsH2132, even the bestH2896 of them, and giveH5414[H8804] them to his servantsH5650. |
[15]And he shall take the tenth of your seede, and of your vineyardes, and geue it to his eunuches, & to his seruauntes |
[15]And he will take the tenthH6237[H8799] of your seedH2233, and of your vineyardsH3754, and giveH5414[H8804] to his officersH5631, and to his servantsH5650. |
[16]And he shal take your men seruauntes, and maide seruauntes, young men, and the chiefe of your asses, and put them to his worke |
[16]And he will takeH3947[H8799] your menservantsH5650, and your maidservantsH8198, and your goodliestH2896 young menH970, and your assesH2543, and putH6213[H8804] them to his workH4399. |
[17]And he shall take the tenth of your sheepe, and ye shall be his seruauntes |
[17]He will take the tenthH6237[H8799] of your sheepH6629: and ye shall be his servantsH5650. |
[18]And ye shall crie out at that time, because of your king whiche ye shall haue chosen you, & the Lorde wil not heare you at that day |
[18]And ye shall cry outH2199[H8804] in that dayH3117 becauseH6440 of your kingH4428 which ye shall have chosenH977[H8804] you; and the LORDH3068 will not hearH6030[H8799] you in that dayH3117. |
[19]Neuerthelesse, the people woulde not heare the voyce of Samuel, but did say, Nay, not so: But there shalbe a king ouer vs |
[19]Nevertheless the peopleH5971 refusedH3985[H8762] to obeyH8085[H8800] the voiceH6963 of SamuelH8050; and they saidH559[H8799], Nay; but we will have a king over usH4428; |
[20]That we may be lyke other nations, and that our king may iudge vs, and go out before vs, and fight our battailes |
[20]That we also may be like all the nationsH1471; and that our kingH4428 may judgeH8199[H8804] us, and go outH3318[H8804] beforeH6440 us, and fightH3898[H8738] our battlesH4421. |
[21]Therfore when Samuel hearde all the wordes of the people, he rehearsed them in the eares of the Lord |
[21]And SamuelH8050 heardH8085[H8799] all the wordsH1697 of the peopleH5971, and he rehearsedH1696[H8762] them in the earsH241 of the LORDH3068. |
[22]And the Lord sayd to Samuel: Hearken vnto their voyce, and make them a king. And Samuel said vnto the men of Israel: Go euery man vnto his citie |
[22]And the LORDH3068 saidH559[H8799] to SamuelH8050, HearkenH8085[H8798] unto their voiceH6963, and makeH4427[H8689] them a kingH4428. And SamuelH8050 saidH559[H8799] unto the menH582 of IsraelH3478, GoH3212[H8798] ye every manH376 unto his cityH5892. |
