| [1]περι δε των χρονων και των καιρων αδελφοι ου χρειαν εχετε υμιν γραφεσθαι |
[1]But of the times and seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. |
| [2]αυτοι γαρ ακριβως οιδατε οτι η ημερα κυριου ως κλεπτης εν νυκτι ουτως ερχεται |
[2]For ye yourselves know perfectly, that the day of the Lord shall come, even as a thief in the night. |
| [3]οταν γαρ λεγωσιν ειρηνη και ασφαλεια τοτε αιφνιδιος αυτοις εφισταται ολεθρος ωσπερ η ωδιν τη εν γαστρι εχουση και ου μη εκφυγωσιν |
[3]For when they shall say, Peace, and safety, then shall come upon them sudden destruction, as the travail upon a woman with child, and they shall not escape, |
| [4]υμεις δε αδελφοι ουκ εστε εν σκοτει ινα η ημερα υμας ως κλεπτης καταλαβη |
[4]But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should come on you, as it were a thief. |
| [5]παντες υμεις υιοι φωτος εστε και υιοι ημερας ουκ εσμεν νυκτος ουδε σκοτους |
[5]You are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night neither of darkness. |
| [6]αρα ουν μη καθευδωμεν ως και οι λοιποι αλλα γρηγορωμεν και νηφωμεν |
[6]Therefore let us not sleep as do other, but let us watch and be sober. |
| [7]οι γαρ καθευδοντες νυκτος καθευδουσιν και οι μεθυσκομενοι νυκτος μεθυουσιν |
[7]For they that sleep, sleep in the night, and they that be drunken, are drunken in the night. |
| [8]ημεις δε ημερας οντες νηφωμεν ενδυσαμενοι θωρακα πιστεως και αγαπης και περικεφαλαιαν ελπιδα σωτηριας |
[8]But let us which are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and of the hope of salvation for an helmet. |
| [9]οτι ουκ εθετο ημας ο θεος εις οργην αλλ εις περιποιησιν σωτηριας δια του κυριου ημων ιησου χριστου |
[9]For God hath not appointed us unto wrath, but to obtain salvation by the means of our Lord Jesus Christ, |
| [10]του αποθανοντος υπερ ημων ινα ειτε γρηγορωμεν ειτε καθευδωμεν αμα συν αυτω ζησωμεν |
[10]Which died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him. |
| [11]διο παρακαλειτε αλληλους και οικοδομειτε εις τον ενα καθως και ποιειτε |
[11]Wherefore exhort one another, and edify one another, even as ye do. |
| [12]ερωτωμεν δε υμας αδελφοι ειδεναι τους κοπιωντας εν υμιν και προισταμενους υμων εν κυριω και νουθετουντας υμας |
[12]Now we beseech you, brethren, that ye know them, which labor among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you, |
| [13]και ηγεισθαι αυτους υπερ εκπερισσου εν αγαπη δια το εργον αυτων ειρηνευετε εν εαυτοις |
[13]That ye have them in singular love for their works' sake. Be at peace among yourselves. |
| [14]παρακαλουμεν δε υμας αδελφοι νουθετειτε τους ατακτους παραμυθεισθε τους ολιγοψυχους αντεχεσθε των ασθενων μακροθυμειτε προς παντας |
[14]We desire you, brethren, admonish them that are unruly: comfort the feeble minded: bear with the weak: be patient toward all men. |
| [15]ορατε μη τις κακον αντι κακου τινι αποδω αλλα παντοτε το αγαθον διωκετε και εις αλληλους και εις παντας |
[15]See that none recompense evil for evil unto any man: but ever follow that which is good, both toward yourselves, and toward all men. |
| [16]παντοτε χαιρετε |
[16]Rejoice evermore. |
| [17]αδιαλειπτως προσευχεσθε |
[17]Pray continually. |
| [18]εν παντι ευχαριστειτε τουτο γαρ θελημα θεου εν χριστω ιησου εις υμας |
[18]In all things give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you. |
| [19]το πνευμα μη σβεννυτε |
[19]Quench not the Spirit. |
| [20]προφητειας μη εξουθενειτε |
[20]Despise not prophesying. |
| [21]παντα δε δοκιμαζετε το καλον κατεχετε |
[21]Try all things, and keep that which is good. |
| [22]απο παντος ειδους πονηρου απεχεσθε |
[22]Abstain from all appearance of evil. |
| [23]αυτος δε ο θεος της ειρηνης αγιασαι υμας ολοτελεις και ολοκληρον υμων το πνευμα και η ψυχη και το σωμα αμεμπτως εν τη παρουσια του κυριου ημων ιησου χριστου τηρηθειη |
[23]Now the very God of peace sanctify you throughout: and I pray God that your whole spirit and soul and body, may be kept blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. |
| [24]πιστος ο καλων υμας ος και ποιησει |
[24]Faithful is he which calleth you, which will also do it. |
| [25]αδελφοι προσευχεσθε περι ημων |
[25]Brethren, pray for us. |
| [26]ασπασασθε τους αδελφους παντας εν φιληματι αγιω |
[26]Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss. |
| [27]ορκιζω υμας τον κυριον αναγνωσθηναι την επιστολην πασιν τοις αγιοις αδελφοις |
[27]I charge you in the Lord, that this Epistle be read unto all the brethren the Saints. |
| [28]η χαρις του κυριου ημων ιησου χριστου μεθ υμων αμην |
[28]The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you, Amen. |
