| [1]But of the times and the seasons, my brethren, you need not that I write to you; |
[1]Περὶ δὲ τῶν χρόνων καὶ τῶν καιρῶν, ἀδελφοί, οὐ χρείαν ἔχετε ὑμῖν γράφεσθαι· |
| [2]For you truly know that the day of our Lord as a thief in the night so cometh. |
[2]αὐτοὶ γὰρ ἀκριβῶς οἴδατε ὅτι ἡμέρα Κυρίου ὡς κλέπτης ἐν νυκτὶ οὕτως ἔρχεται. |
| [3]While they shall be saying, Peace and tranquillity, then unawares will destruction arise against them, as distress upon the child-bearer, and they shall not escape. |
[3]ὅταν λέγωσιν Εἰρήνη καὶ ἀσφάλεια, τότε αἰφνίδιος αὐτοῖς ἐπίσταται ὄλεθρος ὥσπερ ἡ ὠδὶν τῇ ἐν γαστρὶ ἐχούσῃ, καὶ οὐ μὴ ἐκφύγωσιν. |
| [4]But you, my brethren, are not in darkness, that that day as a thief should overtake you. |
[4]ὑμεῖς δέ, ἀδελφοί, οὐκ ἐστὲ ἐν σκότει, ἵνα ἡ ἡμέρα ὑμᾶς ὡς κλέπτης καταλάβῃ· |
| [5]For all of you are sons of light, and sons of the day; and are not sons of the night, nor sons of darkness. |
[5]πάντες γὰρ ὑμεῖς υἱοὶ φωτός ἐστε καὶ υἱοὶ ἡμέρας. Οὐκ ἐσμὲν νυκτὸς οὐδὲ σκότους· |
| [6]Sleep we not, therefore, as the rest; but be wakeful and sober. |
[6]ἄρα οὖν μὴ καθεύδωμεν ὡς οἱ λοιποί, ἀλλὰ γρηγορῶμεν καὶ νήφωμεν. |
| [7]For they who sleep, in the night sleep; and they who are drunken, in the night are drunken. |
[7]οἱ γὰρ καθεύδοντες νυκτὸς καθεύδουσιν, καὶ οἱ μεθυσκόμενοι νυκτὸς μεθύουσιν· |
| [8]But we who are sons of the day must be wakeful in our minds, and wear the mail-coatⓘ of faith and of love, and put on the helmet of the hope of salvation. |
[8]ἡμεῖς δὲ ἡμέρας ὄντες νήφωμεν, ἐνδυσάμενοι θώρακα πίστεως καὶ ἀγάπης καὶ περικεφαλαίαν ἐλπίδα σωτηρίας· |
| [9]For Aloha hath not appointed us to wrath, but to the possession of salvation in our Lord Jeshu Meshiha, |
[9]ὅτι οὐκ ἔθετο ἡμᾶς ὁ Θεὸς εἰς ὀργὴν ἀλλὰ εἰς περιποίησιν σωτηρίας διὰ τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ, |
| [10]Who died on our behalf, that, whether we wake or sleep, together with him we may live. |
[10]τοῦ ἀποθανόντος περὶ ἡμῶν, ἵνα εἴτε γρηγορῶμεν εἴτε καθεύδωμεν ἅμα σὺν αὐτῷ ζήσωμεν. |
| [11]Wherefore comfort one another, and edify one another, as also you do. |
[11]Διὸ παρακαλεῖτε ἀλλήλους καὶ οἰκοδομεῖτε εἷς τὸν ἕνα, καθὼς καὶ ποιεῖτε. |
| [12]BUT I entreat of you, my brethren, to know them who labour among you, and stand before your faces teaching you, |
[12]Ἐρωτῶμεν δὲ ὑμᾶς, ἀδελφοί, εἰδέναι τοὺς κοπιῶντας ἐν ὑμῖν καὶ προϊσταμένους ὑμῶν ἐν Κυρίῳ καὶ νουθετοῦντας ὑμᾶς, |
| [13]That they be esteemed by you in abundant love; and on account of their work be at peace with them. |
[13]καὶ ἡγεῖσθαι αὐτοὺς ὑπερεκπερισσῶς ἐν ἀγάπῃ διὰ τὸ ἔργον αὐτῶν. εἰρηνεύετε ἐν ἑαυτοῖς. |
| [14]And I entreat of you, my brethren, [to] admonish the offenders, and encourage the little of soul, and bear the burden of the weak, and prolong your spirit toward every man. |
[14]Παρακαλοῦμεν δὲ ὑμᾶς, ἀδελφοί, νουθετεῖτε τοὺς ἀτάκτους, παραμυθεῖσθε τοὺς ὀλιγοψύχους, ἀντέχεσθε τῶν ἀσθενῶν, μακροθυμεῖτε πρὸς πάντας. |
| [15]And beware, lest any of you evil render for evil; but always follow after [those things which are] good [pl.] toward one another, and toward every man. |
[15]ὁρᾶτε μή τις κακὸν ἀντὶ κακοῦ τινι ἀποδῷ, ἀλλὰ πάντοτε τὸ ἀγαθὸν διώκετε εἰς ἀλλήλους καὶ εἰς πάντας. |
| [16]Be joyful always, |
[16]Πάντοτε χαίρετε, |
| [17]And pray without ceasing, |
[17]ἀδιαλείπτως προσεύχεσθε, |
| [18]And in every thing give thanks; for this is the will of Aloha in Jeshu Meshiha concerning you. |
[18]ἐν παντὶ εὐχαριστεῖτε· τοῦτο γὰρ θέλημα Θεοῦ ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ εἰς ὑμᾶς. |
| [19]The Spirit quench not. |
[19]τὸ Πνεῦμα μὴ σβέννυτε, |
| [20]Prophecy do not despise. |
[20]προφητείας μὴ ἐξουθενεῖτε· |
| [21]Prove every thing, and what is good retain. |
[21]πάντα δὲ δοκιμάζετε, τὸ καλὸν κατέχετε· |
| [22]And from every evil thingⓘ flee. |
[22]ἀπὸ παντὸς εἴδους πονηροῦ ἀπέχεσθε. |
| [23]But the God of peace himself will sanctify perfectly all of you; and your whole spirit, and your soul, and your body will he keep without fault, to the coming of our Lord Jeshu Meshiha. |
[23]Αὐτὸς δὲ ὁ Θεὸς τῆς εἰρήνης ἁγιάσαι ὑμᾶς ὁλοτελεῖς, καὶ ὁλόκληρον ὑμῶν τὸ πνεῦμα καὶ ἡ ψυχὴ καὶ τὸ σῶμα ἀμέμπτως ἐν τῇ παρουσίᾳ τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ τηρηθείη. |
| [24]Faithful is he who hath called you, who himself will do it! |
[24]πιστὸς ὁ καλῶν ὑμᾶς, ὃς καὶ ποιήσει. |
| [25]My brethren, pray for us. |
[25]Ἀδελφοί, προσεύχεσθε περὶ ἡμῶν. |
| [26]Ask the peace of all our brethren, with the holy kiss. |
[26]Ἀσπάσασθε τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς πάντας ἐν φιλήματι ἁγίῳ. |
| [27]I adjure you, by our Lord, that this epistle be read to all the holy brethren. |
[27]Ἐνορκίζω ὑμᾶς τὸν Κύριον ἀναγνωσθῆναι τὴν ἐπιστολὴν πᾶσιν τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς. |
| [28]The grace of our Lord Jeshu Meshiha be with you. Amen.
