Peshitta NT (Etheridge, 1849)
PesNT(Eth)
[1]εκρινα δε εμαυτω τουτο το μη παλιν εν λυπη προς υμας ελθειν [1]But I have determined this in myself, that I will not with sorrow again come to you.
[2]ει γαρ εγω λυπω υμας και τις εστιν ο ευφραινων με ει μη ο λυπουμενος εξ εμου [2]For if I grieve you, who shall refresh me, but he whom I had grieved?
[3]και εγραψα υμιν τουτο αυτο ινα μη ελθων λυπην εχω αφ ων εδει με χαιρειν πεποιθως επι παντας υμας οτι η εμη χαρα παντων υμων εστιν [3]And I have written to you this very, [epistle] lest when I come they grieve me, they who ought to refresh me. But I confide in you, that my joy is that of all of you.
[4]εκ γαρ πολλης θλιψεως και συνοχης καρδιας εγραψα υμιν δια πολλων δακρυων ουχ ινα λυπηθητε αλλα την αγαπην ινα γνωτε ην εχω περισσοτερως εις υμας [4]And from great affliction and anxiety of heart I wrote those things to you with many tears, not that you might grieve, but [also] that you might know the abundant love I have towards you.
[5]ει δε τις λελυπηκεν ουκ εμε λελυπηκεν αλλα απο μερους ινα μη επιβαρω παντας υμας [5]But if any one hath caused grief, he hath not grieved me [only], but a part of you all: that the word may not weigh upon [the whole of] you.
[6]ικανον τω τοιουτω η επιτιμια αυτη η υπο των πλειονων [6]But sufficient for him was this chastisement, which was from many.
[7]ωστε τουναντιον μαλλον υμας χαρισασθαι και παρακαλεσαι μηπως τη περισσοτερα λυπη καταποθη ο τοιουτος [7]And now on the other hand it behoves you to forgive him and console him, lest he who is such an one be swallowed up of excessive grief.
[8]διο παρακαλω υμας κυρωσαι εις αυτον αγαπην [8]Therefore I entreat of you to confirm to him your love.
[9]εις τουτο γαρ και εγραψα ινα γνω την δοκιμην υμων ει εις παντα υπηκοοι εστε [9]On this account also I have written, to ascertain by experiment whether in every thing you will obey me.
[10]ω δε τι χαριζεσθε και εγω και γαρ εγω ει τι κεχαρισμαι ω κεχαρισμαι δι υμας εν προσωπω χριστου [10]But to whom you forgive, I also. For I, too, what I have forgiven, have on your account forgiven in the presence of the Meshiha:
[11]ινα μη πλεονεκτηθωμεν υπο του σατανα ου γαρ αυτου τα νοηματα αγνοουμεν [11]Lest Satana get the advantage of you; for we know his devices.
[12]ελθων δε εις την τρωαδα εις το ευαγγελιον του χριστου και θυρας μοι ανεωγμενης εν κυριω [12]WHEN, in preaching the gospel of the Meshiha, I had come to Troas, and a door was opened to me by the Lord,
[13]ουκ εσχηκα ανεσιν τω πνευματι μου τω μη ευρειν με τιτον τον αδελφον μου αλλα αποταξαμενος αυτοις εξηλθον εις μακεδονιαν [13]I had no rest in my spirit because I found not Titos my brother. But leaving them, I went forth to Makedunia.
[14]τω δε θεω χαρις τω παντοτε θριαμβευοντι ημας εν τω χριστω και την οσμην της γνωσεως αυτου φανερουντι δι ημων εν παντι τοπω [14]But thanks unto Aloha, who in all time maketh us a triumph in the Meshiha, and maketh manifest by us the perfume of his knowledge in every place.
[15]οτι χριστου ευωδια εσμεν τω θεω εν τοις σωζομενοις και εν τοις απολλυμενοις [15]For we are a fragrant perfume in the Meshiha unto Aloha in those who are saved, and in those who perish.
[16]οις μεν οσμη θανατου εις θανατον οις δε οσμη ζωης εις ζωην και προς ταυτα τις ικανος [16]To these as a perfume of death unto death, and to those as a perfume of life unto life. And unto these who is equal?
[17]ου γαρ εσμεν ως οι λοιποι καπηλευοντες τον λογον του θεου αλλ ως εξ ειλικρινειας αλλ ως εκ θεου κατενωπιον του θεου εν χριστω λαλουμεν [17]For we are not as the rest who commix the word of Aloha; but as in truth, and as from Aloha, before Aloha in the Meshiha do we speak.
