| [1]The eldere man, to the chosun ladi, and to her children, whiche Y loue in treuthe; and not Y aloone, but also alle men that knowen treuthe; |
[1]THE presbyter to the elect Kuria and to her sons, whom I love in truth, nor I only, but all they who know the truth, |
| [2]for the treuthe that dwellith in you, and with you schal be with outen ende. |
[2]On account of the truth which abideth in us, and is with us for ever; |
| [3]Grace be with you, merci, and pees of God the fadir, and of Jhesu Crist, the sone of the fadir, in treuthe and charite. |
[3]Grace be with you and mercy and peace, from Aloha the Father, and from Jeshu Meshiha the Son of the Father, in truth and in love. |
| [4]I ioiede ful myche, for Y foond of thi sones goynge in treuthe, as we resseyueden maundement of the fadir. |
[4]I have rejoiced much to have found of thy sons who walk in the truth, after the commandment we have received from the Father. |
| [5]And now Y preye thee, ladi, not as writinge a newe maundement to thee, but that that we hadden fro the bigynnyng, that we loue ech other. |
[5]And now I entreat thee, Kuria,—no new commandment writing to thee, but that which we have had from the beginning,—that we love one another. |
| [6]And this is charite, that we walke after his maundementis. For this is the comaundement, that as ye herden at the bigynnyng, walke ye in hym. |
[6]And this is love, that we walk according to the commandment; this commandment is according to that which you have heard from the beginning, that in it we should walk. |
| [7]For many disseyueris wenten out in to the world, which knoulechen not that Jhesu Crist hath come in fleisch; this is a disseyuere and antecrist. |
[7]Because many deceivers are come out into the world who confess not that Jeshu Meshiha came in the flesh. This is the deceiver and antichrist. |
| [8]Se ye you silf, lest ye lesen the thingis that ye han wrouyt, that ye resseyue ful mede; |
[8]Be watchful of yourselves, that not any thing perish which you have wrought; but [that with] a complete reward you may be recompensed. |
| [9]witynge that ech man that goith bifore, and dwellith not in the teching of Crist, hath not God. He that dwellith in the teching, hath bothe the sone and the fadir. |
[9]Every one who transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of the Meshiha, hath not Aloha.ⓘ He who abideth in his doctrine, this hath both the Father and the Son. |
| [10]If ony man cometh to you, and bryngith not this teching, nyle ye resseyue hym in to hous, nether seie ye to hym, Heil. |
[10]If any one come to you, and this doctrine bring not, receive him not into the house, and "Joy to you," and "Farewell," say not to him. |
| [11]For he that seith to hym, Heil, comyneth with hise yuel werkis. Lo! Y biforseide to you, that ye be not confoundid in the dai of oure Lord Jhesu Crist. |
[11]For he who saith to him, "Farewell," becometh a participator of his evil deeds. |
| [12]Y haue mo thingis to write to you, and Y wolde not bi parchemyn and enke; for Y hope that Y schal come to you, and speke mouth to mouth, that your ioye be ful. |
[12]Though I have many things to write to you, I will not with parchment and ink; but I hope to come to you, and mouth with mouth to speak, that our joy may be complete. |
| [13]The sones of thi chosun sistir greten thee wel. The grace of God be with thee. Amen. |
[13]The sons of thy elect sister ask your peace. Grace be with you. Amen.
