[1]Then Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab: |
| [2]And AhaziahH274 fell downH5307[H8799] through a latticeH7639 in his upper chamberH5944 that was in SamariaH8111, and was sickH2470[H8799]: and he sentH7971[H8799] messengersH4397, and saidH559[H8799] unto them, GoH3212[H8798], enquireH1875[H8798] of BaalzebubH1176 the godH430 of EkronH6138 whether I shall recoverH2421[H8799] of this diseaseH2483. |
[2]And Ahaziah fell through the lattice window in his upper chamber which was in Samaria: so he was sick: then he sent messengers, to whom he said, Go, and inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron, if I shall recover of this my disease. |
| [3]But the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 saidH1696[H8765] to ElijahH452 the TishbiteH8664, AriseH6965[H8798], go upH5927[H8798] to meetH7125[H8800] the messengersH4397 of the kingH4428 of SamariaH8111, and sayH1696[H8761] unto them, Is it not because there is not a GodH430 in IsraelH3478, that ye goH1980[H8802] to enquireH1875[H8800] of BaalzebubH1176 the godH430 of EkronH6138? |
[3]Then the angel of the Lord said to Elijah the Tishbite, Arise, and go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say unto them, Is it not because there is no God in Israel, that ye go to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron? |
| [4]Now therefore thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068, Thou shalt not come downH3381[H8799] from that bedH4296 on which thou art gone upH5927[H8804], but shalt surelyH4191[H8800] dieH4191[H8799]. And ElijahH452 departedH3212.[H8799] |
[4]Wherefore thus saith the Lord, Thou shalt not come down from the bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt die the death. So Elijah departed. |

[5]And the messengers returned unto him, to whom he said, Why are ye now returned? |
| [6]And they saidH559[H8799] unto him, There cameH5927 a manH376 upH5927[H8804] to meetH7125[H8800] us, and saidH559[H8799] unto us, GoH3212[H8798], turn againH7725[H8798] unto the kingH4428 that sentH7971[H8804] you, and sayH1696[H8765] unto him, Thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068, Is it not because there is not a GodH430 in IsraelH3478, that thou sendestH7971[H8802] to enquireH1875[H8800] of BaalzebubH1176 the godH430 of EkronH6138? therefore thou shalt not come downH3381[H8799] from that bedH4296 on which thou art gone upH5927[H8804], but shalt surelyH4191[H8800] dieH4191.[H8799] |
[6]And they answered him, There came a man and met us, and said unto us, Go, and return unto the king which sent you, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Is it not because there is no God in Israel, that thou sendest to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron? Therefore thou shalt not come down from the bed, on which thou art gone up, but shalt die the death. |

[7]And he said unto them, What manner of man was he which came and met you, and told you these words? |

[8]And they said unto him, He was an hairy man, and girded with a girdle of leather about his loins. Then said he, It is Elijah the Tishbite. |
| [9]Then the kingH4428 sentH7971[H8799] unto him a captainH8269 of fiftyH2572 with his fiftyH2572. And he went upH5927[H8799] to him: and, behold, he satH3427[H8802] on the topH7218 of an hillH2022. And he spakeH1696[H8762] unto him, Thou manH376 of GodH430, the kingH4428 hath saidH1696[H8765], Come downH3381.[H8798] |
[9]Therefore the king sent unto him a captain over fifty with his fifty men, who went up unto him: for behold, he sat on the top of a mountain, and he said unto him, O man of God, the king hath commanded that thou come down. |
| [10]And ElijahH452 answeredH6030[H8799] and saidH1696[H8762] to the captainH8269 of fiftyH2572, If I be a manH376 of GodH430, then let fireH784 come downH3381[H8799] from heavenH8064, and consumeH398[H8799] thee and thy fiftyH2572. And there came downH3381[H8799] fireH784 from heavenH8064, and consumedH398[H8799] him and his fiftyH2572. |
[10]But Elijah answered, and said to the captain over the fifty, If that I be a man of God, let fire come down from the heaven, and devour thee and thy fifty. So fire came down from the heaven and devoured him and his fifty. |
| [11]AgainH7725[H8799] also he sentH7971[H8799] unto him anotherH312 captainH8269 of fiftyH2572 with his fiftyH2572. And he answeredH6030[H8799] and saidH1696[H8762] unto him, O manH376 of GodH430, thus hath the kingH4428 saidH559[H8804], Come downH3381[H8798] quicklyH4120. |
[11]Again also he sent unto him another captain over fifty, with his fifty. Who spake, and said unto him, O man of God, thus the king commandeth, Come down quickly. |
| [12]And ElijahH452 answeredH6030[H8799] and saidH1696[H8762] unto them, If I be a manH376 of GodH430, let fireH784 come downH3381[H8799] from heavenH8064, and consumeH398[H8799] thee and thy fiftyH2572. And the fireH784 of GodH430 came downH3381[H8799] from heavenH8064, and consumedH398[H8799] him and his fiftyH2572. |
[12]But Elijah answered, and said unto them, If I be a man of God, let fire come down from the heaven, and devour thee and thy fifty. So fire came down from the heaven, and devoured him and his fifty. |
| [13]And he sentH7971[H8799] againH7725[H8799] a captainH8269 of the thirdH7992 fiftyH2572 with his fiftyH2572. And the thirdH7992 captainH8269 of fiftyH2572 went upH5927[H8799], and cameH935[H8799] and fellH3766[H8799] on his kneesH1290 beforeH5048 ElijahH452, and besoughtH2603[H8691] him, and saidH1696[H8762] unto him, O manH376 of GodH430, I pray thee, let my lifeH5315, and the lifeH5315 of these fiftyH2572 thy servantsH5650, be preciousH3365[H8799] in thy sightH5869. |
[13]Yet again he sent the third captain over fifty with his fifty. And the third captain over fifty went up, and came, and fell on his knees before Elijah, and besought him, and said unto him, O man of God, I pray thee, let my life and the life of these thy fifty servants be precious in thy sight. |
| [14]Behold, there cameH3381 fireH784 downH3381[H8804] from heavenH8064, and burnt upH398[H8799] the twoH8147 captainsH8269 of the formerH7223 fiftiesH2572 with their fiftiesH2572: therefore let my lifeH5315 now be preciousH3365[H8799] in thy sightH5869. |
[14]Behold, there came fire down from the heaven and devoured the two former captains over fifty with their fifties: therefore let my life now be precious in thy sight. |
| [15]And the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 saidH1696[H8762] unto ElijahH452, Go downH3381[H8798] with him: be not afraidH3372[H8799] of himH6440. And he aroseH6965[H8799], and went downH3381[H8799] with him unto the kingH4428. |
[15]And the angel of the Lord said unto Elijah, Go down with him, be not afraid of his presence. So he arose, and went down with him unto the king. |
| [16]And he saidH1696[H8762] unto him, Thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068, Forasmuch as thou hast sentH7971[H8804] messengersH4397 to enquireH1875[H8800] of BaalzebubH1176 the godH430 of EkronH6138, is it not because there is no GodH430 in IsraelH3478 to enquireH1875[H8800] of his wordH1697? therefore thou shalt not come downH3381[H8799] off that bedH4296 on which thou art gone upH5927[H8804], but shalt surelyH4191[H8800] dieH4191.[H8799] |
[16]And he said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Because thou hast sent messengers to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron, (was it not because there was no God in Israel to inquire of his word?) therefore thou shalt not come down off the bed, on which thou art gone up, but shalt die the death. |
| [17]So he diedH4191[H8799] according to the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 which ElijahH452 had spokenH1696[H8765]. And JehoramH3088 reignedH4427[H8799] in his stead in the secondH8147 yearH8141 of JehoramH3088 the sonH1121 of JehoshaphatH3092 kingH4428 of JudahH3063; because he had no sonH1121. |
[17]So he died according to the word of the Lord which Elijah had spoken. And Jehoram began to reign in his stead, in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, because he had no son. |
| [18]Now the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of AhaziahH274 which he didH6213[H8804], are they not writtenH3789[H8803] in the bookH5612 of the chroniclesH1697[H3117] of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478? |
[18]Concerning the rest of the acts of Ahaziah, that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? |
