[1]וַעֲתַלְיָה אֵם אֲחַזְיָהוּ וּרָאֲתָה [Q: רָאֲתָה] כִּי מֵת בְּנָהּ וַתָּקָם וַתְּאַבֵּד אֵת כָּל־זֶרַע הַמַּמְלָכָה׃ |
| [2]But JehoshebaH3089, the daughterH1323 of kingH4428 JoramH3141, sisterH269 of AhaziahH274, tookH3947[H8799] JoashH3101 the sonH1121 of AhaziahH274, and stoleH1589[H8799] him from amongH8432 the king'sH4428 sonsH1121 which were slainH4191[H8716]; and they hidH5641[H8686] him, even him and his nurseH3243[H8688], in the bedchamberH2315[H4296] fromH6440 AthaliahH6271, so that he was not slainH4191.[H8717] |
[2]וַתִּקַּח יְהֹושֶׁבַע בַּת־הַמֶּלֶךְ־יֹורָם אֲחֹות אֲחַזְיָהוּ אֶת־יֹואָשׁ בֶּן־אֲחַזְיָה וַתִּגְנֹב אֹתֹו מִתֹּוךְ בְּנֵי־הַמֶּלֶךְ הַמַּמֹותְתִים [Q: הַמּוּמָתִים] אֹתֹו וְאֶת־מֵינִקְתֹּו בַּחֲדַר הַמִּטֹּות וַיַּסְתִּרוּ אֹתֹו מִפְּנֵי עֲתַלְיָהוּ וְלֹא הוּמָת׃ |
| [3]And he was with her hidH2244[H8693] in the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068 sixH8337 yearsH8141. And AthaliahH6271 did reignH4427[H8802] over the landH776. |
[3]וַיְהִי אִתָּהּ בֵּית יְהוָה מִתְחַבֵּא שֵׁשׁ שָׁנִים וַעֲתַלְיָה מֹלֶכֶת עַל־הָאָרֶץ׃ |
| [4]And the seventhH7637 yearH8141 JehoiadaH3077 sentH7971[H8804] and fetchedH3947[H8799] the rulersH8269 over hundredsH3967, with the captainsH3746 and the guardH7323[H8801], and broughtH935[H8686] them to him into the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068, and madeH3772[H8799] a covenantH1285 with them, and took an oathH7650[H8686] of them in the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068, and shewedH7200[H8686] them the king'sH4428 sonH1121. |
[4]וּבַשָּׁנָה הַשְּׁבִיעִית שָׁלַח יְהֹויָדָע וַיִּקַּח אֶת־שָׂרֵי הַמֵּאיֹות [Q: הַמֵּאֹות] לַכָּרִי וְלָרָצִים וַיָּבֵא אֹתָם אֵלָיו בֵּית יְהוָה וַיִּכְרֹת לָהֶם בְּרִית וַיַּשְׁבַּע אֹתָם בְּבֵית יְהוָה וַיַּרְא אֹתָם אֶת־בֶּן־הַמֶּלֶךְ׃ |
| [5]And he commandedH6680[H8762] them, sayingH559[H8800], This is the thingH1697 that ye shall doH6213[H8799]; A third partH7992 of you that enter inH935[H8802] on the sabbathH7676 shall even be keepersH8104[H8802] of the watchH4931 of the king'sH4428 houseH1004; |
[5]וַיְצַוֵּם לֵאמֹר זֶה הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר תַּעֲשׂוּן הַשְּׁלִשִׁית םִכֶּם בָּאֵי הַשַּׁבָּת וְשֹׁמְרֵי מִשְׁמֶרֶת בֵּית הַמֶּלֶךְ׃ |
| [6]And a third partH7992 shall be at the gateH8179 of SurH5495; and a third partH7992 at the gateH8179 behindH310 the guardH7323[H8801]: so shall ye keepH8104[H8804] the watchH4931 of the houseH1004, that it be not broken downH4535. |
[6]וְהַשְּׁלִשִׁית בְּשַׁעַר סוּר וְהַשְּׁלִשִׁית בַּשַּׁעַר אַחַר הָרָצִים וּשְׁמַרְתֶּם אֶת־מִשְׁמֶרֶת הַבַּיִת מַסָּח׃ |
| [7]And twoH8147 partsH3027 of all you that go forthH3318[H8802] on the sabbathH7676, even they shall keepH8104[H8804] the watchH4931 of the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068 aboutH413 the kingH4428. |
[7]וּשְׁתֵּי הַיָּדֹות בָּכֶם כֹּל יֹצְאֵי הַשַּׁבָּת וְשָׁמְרוּ אֶת־מִשְׁמֶרֶת בֵּית־יְהוָה אֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְ׃ |
| [8]And ye shall compassH5362[H8689] the kingH4428 round aboutH5439, every manH376 with his weaponsH3627 in his handH3027: and he that comethH935[H8802] within the rangesH7713, let him be slainH4191[H8714]: and be ye with the kingH4428 as he goeth outH3318[H8800] and as he cometh inH935.[H8800] |
[8]וְהִקַּפְתֶּם עַל־הַמֶּלֶךְ סָבִיב אִישׁ וְכֵלָיו בְּיָדֹו וְהַבָּא אֶל־הַשְּׂדֵרֹות יוּמָת וִהְיוּ אֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְ בְּצֵאתֹו וּבְבֹאֹו׃ |
| [9]And the captainsH8269 over the hundredsH3967 didH6213[H8799] according to all things that JehoiadaH3077 the priestH3548 commandedH6680[H8765]: and they tookH3947[H8799] every manH376 his menH582 that were to come inH935[H8802] on the sabbathH7676, with them that should go outH3318[H8802] on the sabbathH7676, and cameH935[H8799] to JehoiadaH3077 the priestH3548. |
[9]וַיַּעֲשׂוּ שָׂרֵי הַמֵּאיֹות [Q: הַמֵּאֹות] כְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר־צִוָּה יְהֹויָדָע הַכֹּהֵן וַיִּקְחוּ אִישׁ אֶת־אֲנָשָׁיו בָּאֵי הַשַּׁבָּת עִם יֹצְאֵי הַשַּׁבָּת וַיָּבֹאוּ אֶל־יְהֹויָדָע הַכֹּהֵן׃ |
| [10]And to the captainsH8269 over hundredsH3967 did the priestH3548 giveH5414[H8799] kingH4428 David'sH1732 spearsH2595 and shieldsH7982, that were in the templeH1004 of the LORDH3068. |
[10]וַיִּתֵּן הַכֹּהֵן לְשָׂרֵי הַמֵּאיֹות [Q: הַמֵּאֹות] אֶת־הַחֲנִית וְאֶת־הַשְּׁלָטִים אֲשֶׁר לַמֶּלֶךְ דָּוִד אֲשֶׁר בְּבֵית יְהוָה׃ |
| [11]And the guardH7323[H8801] stoodH5975[H8799], every manH376 with his weaponsH3627 in his handH3027, round aboutH5439 the kingH4428, from the rightH3233 cornerH3802 of the templeH1004 to the leftH8042 cornerH3802 of the templeH1004, along by the altarH4196 and the templeH1004. |
[11]וַיַּעַמְדוּ הָרָצִים אִישׁ וְכֵלָיו בְּיָדֹו מִכֶּתֶף הַבַּיִת הַיְמָנִית עַד־כֶּתֶף הַבַּיִת הַשְּׂמָאלִית לַמִּזְבֵּחַ וְלַבָּיִת עַל־הַמֶּלֶךְ סָבִיב׃ |
| [12]And he brought forthH3318[H8686] the king'sH4428 sonH1121, and putH5414[H8799] the crownH5145 upon him, and gave him the testimonyH5715; and they made him kingH4427[H8686], and anointedH4886[H8799] him; and they clappedH5221[H8686] their handsH3709, and saidH559[H8799], God saveH2421[H8799] the kingH4428. |
[12]וַיֹּוצִא אֶת־בֶּן־הַמֶּלֶךְ וַיִּתֵּן עָלָיו אֶת־הַנֵּזֶר וְאֶת־הָעֵדוּת וַיַּמְלִכוּ אֹתֹו וַיִּמְשָׁחֻהוּ וַיַּכּוּ־כָף וַיֹּאמְרוּ יְחִי הַמֶּלֶךְ׃ |
| [13]And when AthaliahH6271 heardH8085[H8799] the noiseH6963 of the guardH7323[H8801] and of the peopleH5971, she cameH935[H8799] to the peopleH5971 into the templeH1004 of the LORDH3068. |
[13]וַתִּשְׁמַע עֲתַלְיָה אֶת־קֹול הָרָצִין הָעָם וַתָּבֹא אֶל־הָעָם בֵּית יְהוָה׃ |
| [14]And when she lookedH7200[H8799], behold, the kingH4428 stoodH5975[H8802] by a pillarH5982, as the mannerH4941 was, and the princesH8269 and the trumpetersH2689 by the kingH4428, and all the peopleH5971 of the landH776 rejoicedH8056, and blewH8628[H8802] with trumpetsH2689: and AthaliahH6271 rentH7167[H8799] her clothesH899, and criedH7121[H8799], TreasonH7195, TreasonH7195. |
[14]וַתֵּרֶא וְהִנֵּה הַמֶּלֶךְ עֹמֵד עַל־הָעַמּוּד כַּמִּשְׁפָּט וְהַשָּׂרִים וְהַחֲצֹצְרֹות אֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְ וְכָל־עַם הָאָרֶץ שָׂמֵחַ וְתֹקֵעַ בַּחֲצֹצְרֹות וַתִּקְרַע עֲתַלְיָה אֶת־בְּגָדֶיהָ וַתִּקְרָא קֶשֶׁר קָשֶׁר׃ |
| [15]But JehoiadaH3077 the priestH3548 commandedH6680[H8762] the captainsH8269 of the hundredsH3967, the officersH6485[H8803] of the hostH2428, and saidH559[H8799] unto them, Have her forthH3318[H8685] withoutH1004 the rangesH7713: and him that followethH935[H8802][H310] her killH4191[H8687] with the swordH2719. For the priestH3548 had saidH559[H8804], Let her not be slainH4191[H8714] in the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068. |
[15]וַיְצַו יְהֹויָדָע הַכֹּהֵן אֶת־שָׂרֵי הַמֵּיאֹות [Q: הַמֵּאֹות] פְּקֻדֵי הַחַיִל וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם הֹוצִיאוּ אֹתָהּ אֶל־מִבֵּית לַשְּׂדֵרֹת וְהַבָּא אַחֲרֶיהָ הָמֵת בֶּחָרֶב כִּי אָמַר הַכֹּהֵן אַל־תּוּמַת בֵּית יְהוָה׃ |
| [16]And they laidH7760[H8799] handsH3027 on her; and she wentH935[H8799] by the wayH1870 by the which the horsesH5483 cameH3996 into the king'sH4428 houseH1004: and there was she slainH4191.[H8714] |
[16]וַיָּשִׂמוּ לָהּ יָדַיִם וַתָּבֹוא דֶּרֶךְ־מְבֹוא הַסּוּסִים בֵּית הַמֶּלֶךְ וַתּוּמַת שָׁם׃ |
| [17]And JehoiadaH3077 madeH3772[H8799] a covenantH1285 between the LORDH3068 and the kingH4428 and the peopleH5971, that they should be the LORD'SH3068 peopleH5971; between the kingH4428 also and the peopleH5971. |
[17]וַיִּכְרֹת יְהֹויָדָע אֶת־הַבְּרִית בֵּין יְהוָה וּבֵין הַמֶּלֶךְ וּבֵין הָעָם לִהְיֹות לְעָם לַיהוָה וּבֵין הַמֶּלֶךְ וּבֵין הָעָם׃ |
| [18]And all the peopleH5971 of the landH776 wentH935[H8799] into the houseH1004 of BaalH1168, and brake it downH5422[H8799]; his altarsH4196 and his imagesH6754 brake they in piecesH7665[H8765] thoroughlyH3190[H8687], and slewH2026[H8804] MattanH4977 the priestH3548 of BaalH1168 beforeH6440 the altarsH4196. And the priestH3548 appointedH7760[H8799] officersH6485[H8803][H8676][H6486] over the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068. |
[18]וַיָּבֹאוּ כָל־עַם הָאָרֶץ בֵּית־הַבַּעַל וַיִּתְּצֻהוּ אֶת־מִזְבְּחֹתֹו [Q: מִזְבְּחֹתָיו] וְאֶת־צְלָמָיו שִׁבְּרוּ הֵיטֵב וְאֵת מַתָּן כֹּהֵן הַבַּעַל הָרְגוּ לִפְנֵי הַמִּזְבְּחֹות וַיָּשֶׂם הַכֹּהֵן פְּקֻדֹּות עַל־בֵּית יְהוָה׃ |
| [19]And he tookH3947[H8799] the rulersH8269 over hundredsH3967, and the captainsH3746, and the guardH7323[H8801], and all the peopleH5971 of the landH776; and they brought downH3381[H8686] the kingH4428 from the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068, and cameH935[H8799] by the wayH1870 of the gateH8179 of the guardH7323[H8801] to the king'sH4428 houseH1004. And he satH3427[H8799] on the throneH3678 of the kingsH4428. |
[19]וַיִּקַּח אֶת־שָׂרֵי הַמֵּאֹות וְאֶת־הַכָּרִי וְאֶת־הָרָצִים וְאֵת כָּל־עַם הָאָרֶץ וַיֹּרִידוּ אֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְ מִבֵּית יְהוָה וַיָּבֹואוּ דֶּרֶךְ־שַׁעַר הָרָצִים בֵּית הַמֶּלֶךְ וַיֵּשֶׁב עַל־כִּסֵּא הַמְּלָכִים׃ |
| [20]And all the peopleH5971 of the landH776 rejoicedH8055[H8799], and the cityH5892 was in quietH8252[H8804]: and they slewH4191[H8689] AthaliahH6271 with the swordH2719 beside the king'sH4428 houseH1004. |
[20]וַיִּשְׂמַח כָּל־עַם־הָאָרֶץ וְהָעִיר שָׁקָטָה וְאֶת־עֲתַלְיָהוּ הֵמִיתוּ בַחֶרֶב בֵּית מֶלֶךְ [Q: הַמֶּלֶךְ]׃ |
