[1]Then Elisha the prophet called one of the children of the prophets, and said unto him, Gird thy loins and take this box of oil in thine hand, and get thee to Ramoth Gilead. |
| [2]And when thou comestH935[H8804] thither, look outH7200[H8798] there JehuH3058 the sonH1121 of JehoshaphatH3092 the sonH1121 of NimshiH5250, and go inH935[H8804], and make him arise upH6965[H8689] from amongH8432 his brethrenH251, and carryH935[H8689] him to an innerH2315 chamberH2315; |
[2]And when thou comest thither, look where is Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi, and go, and make him arise up from among his brethren, and lead him to a secret chamber. |
| [3]Then takeH3947[H8804] the boxH6378 of oilH8081, and pourH3332[H8804] it on his headH7218, and sayH559[H8804], Thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068, I have anointedH4886[H8804] thee kingH4428 over IsraelH3478. Then openH6605[H8804] the doorH1817, and fleeH5127[H8804], and tarryH2442 notH8762. |
[3]Then take the box of oil and pour it on his head, and say, Thus saith the Lord, I have anointed thee for king over Israel. Then open the door, and flee without any tarrying. |

[4]So the servant of the prophet gat him to Ramoth Gilead. |
| [5]And when he cameH935[H8799], behold, the captainsH8269 of the hostH2428 were sittingH3427[H8802]; and he saidH559[H8799], I have an errandH1697 to thee, O captainH8269. And JehuH3058 saidH559[H8799], Unto which of all us? And he saidH559[H8799], To thee, O captainH8269. |
[5]And when he came in, behold, the captains of the army were sitting and he said, I have a message to thee, O captain. And Jehu said, Unto which of all us? And he answered, To thee, O captain. |
| [6]And he aroseH6965[H8799], and wentH935[H8799] into the houseH1004; and he pouredH3332[H8799] the oilH8081 on his headH7218, and saidH559[H8799] unto him, Thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068 GodH430 of IsraelH3478, I have anointedH4886[H8804] thee kingH4428 over the peopleH5971 of the LORDH3068, even over IsraelH3478. |
[6]And he arose, and went into the house, and he poured the oil on his head and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I have anointed thee for king over the people of the Lord, even over Israel. |
| [7]And thou shalt smiteH5221[H8689] the houseH1004 of AhabH256 thy masterH113, that I may avengeH5358[H8765] the bloodH1818 of my servantsH5650 the prophetsH5030, and the bloodH1818 of all the servantsH5650 of the LORDH3068, at the handH3027 of JezebelH348. |
[7]And thou shalt smite the house of Ahab thy master, that I may avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the Lord of the hand of Jezebel. |
| [8]For the whole houseH1004 of AhabH256 shall perishH6[H8804]: and I will cut offH3772[H8689] from AhabH256 him that pissethH8366[H8688] against the wallH7023, and him that is shut upH6113[H8803] and leftH5800[H8803] in IsraelH3478: |
[8]For the whole house of Ahab shall be destroyed: and I will cut off from Ahab, him that maketh water against the wall, as well him that is shut up, as him that is left in Israel. |
| [9]And I will makeH5414[H8804] the houseH1004 of AhabH256 like the houseH1004 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028, and like the houseH1004 of BaashaH1201 the sonH1121 of AhijahH281: |
[9]And I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah. |
| [10]And the dogsH3611 shall eatH398[H8799] JezebelH348 in the portionH2506 of JezreelH3157, and there shall be none to buryH6912[H8802] her. And he openedH6605[H8799] the doorH1817, and fledH5127.[H8799] |
[10]And the dogs shall eat Jezebel in the field of Jezreel, and there shall be none to bury her. And he opened the door, and fled. |
| [11]Then JehuH3058 came forthH3318[H8804] to the servantsH5650 of his lordH113: and one saidH559[H8799] unto him, Is all wellH7965? wherefore cameH935[H8804] this madH7696[H8794] fellow to thee? And he saidH559[H8799] unto them, Ye knowH3045[H8804] the manH376, and his communicationH7879. |
[11]Then Jehu came out to the servants of his lord. And one said unto him, Is all well? Wherefore came this mad fellow to thee? And he said unto them, Ye know the man, and what his talk was. |
| [12]And they saidH559[H8799], It is falseH8267; tellH5046[H8685] us now. And he saidH559[H8799], Thus and thus spakeH559[H8804] he to me, sayingH559[H8800], Thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068, I have anointedH4886[H8804] thee kingH4428 over IsraelH3478. |
[12]And they said, It is false, tell us it now. Then he said, Thus and thus spake he to me, saying, Thus saith the Lord, I have anointed thee for king over Israel. |
| [13]Then they hastedH4116[H8762], and tookH3947[H8799] every manH376 his garmentH899, and putH7760[H8799] it under him on the topH1634 of the stairsH4609, and blewH8628[H8799] with trumpetsH7782, sayingH559[H8799], JehuH3058 is kingH4427.[H8804] |
[13]Then they made haste, and took every man his garment, and put it under him on the top of the stairs, and blew the trumpet, saying, Jehu is king. |
| [14]So JehuH3058 the sonH1121 of JehoshaphatH3092 the sonH1121 of NimshiH5250 conspiredH7194[H8691] against JoramH3141. (Now JoramH3141 had keptH8104[H8802] RamothgileadH7433[H1568], he and all IsraelH3478, becauseH6440 of HazaelH2371 kingH4428 of SyriaH758. |
[14]So Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi conspired against Jehoram: (Now Jehoram kept Ramoth Gilead, he and all Israel, because of Hazael king of Aram [Syria]. |
| [15]But kingH4428 JoramH3088 was returnedH7725[H8799] to be healedH7495[H8692] in JezreelH3157 of the woundsH4347 which the SyriansH761 had givenH5221[H8686] him, when he foughtH3898[H8736] with HazaelH2371 kingH4428 of SyriaH758.) And JehuH3058 saidH559[H8799], If it beH3426 your mindsH5315, then let noneH408 go forthH3318[H8799] nor escapeH6412 out of the cityH5892 to goH3212[H8800] to tellH5046[H8687] it in JezreelH3157. |
[15]And king Jehoram returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds, which the Aramites [Syrians] had given him, when he fought with Hazael king of Aram [Syria]) and Jehu said, If it be your minds, let no man depart and escape out of the city, to go and tell in Jezreel. |
| [16]So JehuH3058 rode in a chariotH7392[H8799], and wentH3212[H8799] to JezreelH3157; for JoramH3141 layH7901[H8802] there. And AhaziahH274 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 was come downH3381[H8804] to seeH7200[H8800] JoramH3141. |
[16]So Jehu gat up into a chariot, and went to Jezreel: for Jehoram lay there, and Ahaziah king of Judah was come down to see Jehoram. |
| [17]And there stoodH5975[H8802] a watchmanH6822[H8802] on the towerH4026 in JezreelH3157, and he spiedH7200[H8799] the companyH8229 of JehuH3058 as he cameH935[H8800], and saidH559[H8799], I seeH7200[H8802] a companyH8229. And JoramH3088 saidH559[H8799], TakeH3947[H8798] an horsemanH7395, and sendH7971[H8798] to meetH7125[H8800] them, and let him sayH559[H8799], Is it peaceH7965? |
[17]And the watchman that stood in the tower in Jezreel spied the company of Jehu as he came, and said, I see a company. And Jehoram said, Take a horseman and send to meet them, that he may say, Is it peace? |
| [18]So there wentH3212[H8799] one on horsebackH7392[H8802][H5483] to meetH7125[H8800] him, and saidH559[H8799], Thus saithH559[H8804] the kingH4428, Is it peaceH7965? And JehuH3058 saidH559[H8799], What hast thou to do with peaceH7965? turnH5437[H8798] thee behindH310 me. And the watchmanH6822[H8802] toldH5046[H8686], sayingH559[H8800], The messengerH4397 cameH935[H8804] to them, but he cometh not againH7725.[H8804] |
[18]So there went one on horseback to meet him, and said, Thus saith the king, Is it peace? And Jehu said, What hast thou to do with peace? Turn behind me. And the watchman told, saying, The messenger came to them, but he cometh not again. |
| [19]Then he sent outH7971[H8799] a secondH8145 on horsebackH7392[H8802][H5483], which cameH935[H8799] to them, and saidH559[H8799], Thus saithH559[H8804] the kingH4428, Is it peaceH7965? And JehuH3058 answeredH559[H8799], What hast thou to do with peaceH7965? turnH5437[H8798] thee behind meH310. |
[19]Then he sent out another on horseback, which came to them, and said, Thus saith the king, Is it peace? And Jehu answered, What hast thou to do with peace? Turn behind me. |
| [20]And the watchmanH6822[H8802] toldH5046[H8686], sayingH559[H8800], He cameH935[H8804] even unto them, and cometh not againH7725[H8804]: and the drivingH4491 is like the drivingH4491 of JehuH3058 the sonH1121 of NimshiH5250; for he drivethH5090[H8799] furiouslyH7697. |
[20]And the watchman told, saying, He came to them also, but cometh not again, and the marching is like the marching of Jehu the son of Nimshi: for he marcheth furiously. |
| [21]And JoramH3088 saidH559[H8799], Make readyH631[H8798]. And his chariotH7393 was made readyH631[H8799]. And JoramH3088 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 and AhaziahH274 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 went outH3318[H8799], eachH376 in his chariotH7393, and they went outH3318[H8799] againstH7125[H8800] JehuH3058, and metH4672[H8799] him in the portionH2513 of NabothH5022 the JezreeliteH3158. |
[21]Then Jehoram said, Make ready: and his chariot was made ready. And Jehoram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out either of them in his chariot against Jehu, and met him in the field of Naboth the Jezreelite. |
| [22]And it came to pass, when JoramH3088 sawH7200[H8800] JehuH3058, that he saidH559[H8799], Is it peaceH7965, JehuH3058? And he answeredH559[H8799], What peaceH7965, so long asH5704 the whoredomsH2183 of thy motherH517 JezebelH348 and her witchcraftsH3785 are so manyH7227? |
[22]And when Jehoram saw Jehu, he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace? The whoredoms of thy mother Jezebel, and her witchcrafts are yet in great number? |
| [23]And JoramH3088 turnedH2015[H8799] his handsH3027, and fledH5127[H8799], and saidH559[H8799] to AhaziahH274, There is treacheryH4820, O AhaziahH274. |
[23]Then Jehoram turned his hand, and fled, and said to Ahaziah, O Ahaziah, there is treason. |
| [24]And JehuH3058 drew a bowH7198 with his fullH4390[H8765] strengthH3027, and smoteH5221[H8686] JehoramH3088 between his armsH2220, and the arrowH2678 went outH3318[H8799] at his heartH3820, and he sunk downH3766[H8799] in his chariotH7393. |
[24]But Jehu took a bow in his hand, and smote Jehoram between the shoulders, that the arrow went through his heart: and he fell down in his chariot. |
| [25]Then saidH559[H8799] Jehu to BidkarH920 his captainH7991, Take upH5375[H8798], and castH7993[H8685] him in the portionH2513 of the fieldH7704 of NabothH5022 the JezreeliteH3158: for rememberH2142[H8798] how that, when I and thou rodeH7392[H8802] togetherH6776 afterH310 AhabH256 his fatherH1, the LORDH3068 laidH5375[H8804] this burden upon himH4853; |
[25]Then said Jehu to Bidkar a captain, Take, and cast him in some place of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite: for I remember that when I and thou rode together after Ahab his father, the Lord laid this burden upon him. |
| [26]Surely I have seenH7200[H8804] yesterdayH570 the bloodH1818 of NabothH5022, and the bloodH1818 of his sonsH1121, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068; and I will requiteH7999[H8765] thee in this platH2513, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068. Now therefore takeH5375[H8798] and castH7993[H8685] him into the platH2513 of ground, according to the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068. |
[26]Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sons, said the Lord, and I will render it thee in this field, saith the Lord: now therefore take and cast him in the field, according to the word of the Lord. |
| [27]But when AhaziahH274 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063 sawH7200[H8804] this, he fledH5127[H8799] by the wayH1870 of the gardenH1588 houseH1004. And JehuH3058 followedH7291[H8799] afterH310 him, and saidH559[H8799], SmiteH5221[H8685] him also in the chariotH4818. And they did so at the going upH4608 to GurH1483, which is by IbleamH2991. And he fledH5127[H8799] to MegiddoH4023, and diedH4191 thereH8799. |
[27]But when Ahaziah the king of Judah saw this, he fled by the way of the garden house: And Jehu pursued after him, and said, Smite him also in the chariot: and they smote him in the going up to Gur, which is by Ibleam. And he fled to Megiddo, and there died. |
| [28]And his servantsH5650 carriedH7392[H8686] him in a chariot to JerusalemH3389, and buriedH6912[H8799] him in his sepulchreH6900 with his fathersH1 in the cityH5892 of DavidH1732. |
[28]And his servants carried him in a chariot to Jerusalem, and buried him in his sepulchre with his fathers in the city of David. |
| [29]And in the eleventhH259[H6240][H8141] yearH8141 of JoramH3141 the sonH1121 of AhabH256 began AhaziahH274 to reignH4427[H8804] over JudahH3063. |
[29]And in the eleventh year of Jehoram the son of Ahab, began Ahaziah to reign over Judah. |
| [30]And when JehuH3058 was comeH935[H8799] to JezreelH3157, JezebelH348 heardH8085[H8804] of it; and she paintedH7760[H8799][H6320] her faceH5869, and tiredH3190[H8686] her headH7218, and looked outH8259[H8686] at a windowH2474. |
[30]And when Jehu was come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it and painted her face, and tired her head, and looked out at a window. |
| [31]And as JehuH3058 entered inH935[H8804] at the gateH8179, she saidH559[H8799], Had ZimriH2174 peaceH7965, who slewH2026[H8802] his masterH113? |
[31]And as Jehu entered at the gate, she said, Had Zimri peace, which slew his master? |
| [32]And he lifted upH5375[H8799] his faceH6440 to the windowH2474, and saidH559[H8799], Who is on my side? who? And there looked outH8259[H8686] to him twoH8147 or threeH7969 eunuchsH5631. |
[32]And he lift up his eyes to the window, and said, Who is on my side, who? Then two or three of her eunuchs looked unto him. |
| [33]And he saidH559[H8799], Throw her downH8058[H8798]. So they threw her downH8058[H8799]: and some of her bloodH1818 was sprinkledH5137[H8799] on the wallH7023, and on the horsesH5483: and he trode her under footH7429.[H8799] |
[33]And he said, Cast her down: and they cast her down, and he sprinkled of her blood upon the wall, and upon the horses, and he trod her under foot. |
| [34]And when he was come inH935[H8799], he did eatH398[H8799] and drinkH8354[H8799], and saidH559[H8799], GoH6485[H8798], see now this cursedH779[H8803] woman, and buryH6912[H8798] her: for she is a king'sH4428 daughterH1323. |
[34]And when he was come in, he did eat and drink, and said, Visit now yonder cursed woman, and bury her: for she is a king's daughter. |

[35]And they went to bury her, but they found no more of her, than the skull and the feet, and the palms of her hands. |

[36]Wherefore they came again and told him. And he said, This is the word of the Lord, which he spake by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the field of Jezreel shall the dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel. |
| [37]And the carcaseH5038 of JezebelH348 shall be as dungH1828 upon the faceH6440 of the fieldH7704 in the portionH2506 of JezreelH3157; so that they shall not sayH559[H8799], This is JezebelH348. |
[37]And the carcass of Jezebel shall be as dung upon the ground in the field of Jezreel, so that none shall say, This is Jezebel. |
