[1]After the death of Saul, when Dauid was returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and had ben two daies in Ziklag |
| [2]It came even to pass on the thirdH7992 dayH3117, that, behold, a manH376 cameH935[H8802] out of the campH4264 from SaulH7586 with his clothesH899 rentH7167[H8803], and earthH127 upon his headH7218: and so it was, when he cameH935[H8800] to DavidH1732, that he fellH5307[H8799] to the earthH776, and did obeisanceH7812.[H8691] |
[2]Beholde, there came a man the thirde day out of the hoast from Saul, with his clothes rent, & earth vpon his head: And when he came to Dauid, he fell to the earth, and did obeysaunce |
| [3]And DavidH1732 saidH559[H8799] unto him, From whence comestH935[H8799] thou? And he saidH559[H8799] unto him, Out of the campH4264 of IsraelH3478 am I escapedH4422.[H8738] |
[3]Dauid sayde vnto him: whence comest thou? He sayde vnto him: Out of the hoast of Israel I am escaped |
| [4]And DavidH1732 saidH559[H8799] unto him, HowH4100 went the matterH1697? I pray thee, tellH5046[H8685] me. And he answeredH559[H8799], That the peopleH5971 are fledH5127[H8804] from the battleH4421, and manyH7235[H8687] of the peopleH5971 also are fallenH5307[H8804] and deadH4191[H8799]; and SaulH7586 and JonathanH3083 his sonH1121 are deadH4191 alsoH8804. |
[4]And Dauid sayde vnto him: And what is done I pray thee? tell me. He sayde: The people is fled from the battell, and many of the people are ouerthrowen and dead, and Saul and Ionathan his sonne are dead also |
| [5]And DavidH1732 saidH559[H8799] unto the young manH5288 that toldH5046[H8688] him, How knowestH3045[H8804] thou that SaulH7586 and JonathanH3083 his sonH1121 be deadH4191?[H8804] |
[5]And Dauid sayd vnto the young man that tolde it him: Howe knowest thou that Saul and Ionathan his sonne be dead |
| [6]And the young manH5288 that toldH5046[H8688] him saidH559[H8799], As I happenedH7136[H8738] by chanceH7122[H8736] upon mountH2022 GilboaH1533, behold, SaulH7586 leanedH8172[H8737] upon his spearH2595; and, lo, the chariotsH7393 and horsemenH1167[H6571] followed hardH1692 after himH8689. |
[6]The young man that tolde him, aunswered: As I came vnaduisedly to mount Gilboa, beholde Saul leaned vpon his speare: and lo, the charettes and horsemen folowed hard after him |
| [7]And when he lookedH6437[H8799] behindH310 him, he sawH7200[H8799] me, and calledH7121[H8799] unto me. And I answeredH559, Here am IH8799. |
[7]And when he loked backe, he sawe me, and called me. And I aunswered: here am I |
| [8]And he saidH559[H8799] unto me, Who art thou? And I answeredH559[H8799] him, I am an AmalekiteH6003. |
[8]And he sayde vnto me: Who art thou? I aunswered him: I am an Amalekite |
| [9]He saidH559[H8799] unto me again, StandH5975[H8798], I pray thee, upon me, and slayH4191[H8786] me: for anguishH7661 is comeH270[H8804] upon me, because my life is yet whole in meH5315. |
[9]He sayde vnto me agayne: I pray thee come vpon me, and slea me: For anguyshe is come vpon me, because my life is yet whole in me |
| [10]So I stoodH5975[H8799] upon him, and slewH4191[H8787] him, because I was sureH3045[H8804] that he could not liveH2421[H8799] afterH310 that he was fallenH5307[H8800]: and I tookH3947[H8799] the crownH5145 that was upon his headH7218, and the braceletH685 that was on his armH2220, and have broughtH935[H8686] them hither unto my lordH113. |
[10]And so I stoode vpon him, and slue him, and because I was sure that he coulde not liue after that he had fallen, I toke the crowne that was vpon his head, and the braselet that was on his arme, and haue brought them hyther vnto my lorde |
| [11]Then DavidH1732 took holdH2388[H8686] on his clothesH899, and rentH7167[H8799] them; and likewise all the men that were with himH582: |
[11]Then Dauid toke holde on his clothes, and rent them, and so did all the men that were with him |
| [12]And they mournedH5594[H8799], and weptH1058[H8799], and fastedH6684[H8799] until evenH6153, for SaulH7586, and for JonathanH3083 his sonH1121, and for the peopleH5971 of the LORDH3068, and for the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478; because they were fallenH5307[H8804] by the swordH2719. |
[12]And they mourned, and wept, and fasted vntil euen for Saul and Ionathan his sonne, & for the people of the Lorde, and for the house of Israel, because they were ouerthrowen with the sworde |
| [13]And DavidH1732 saidH559[H8799] unto the young manH5288 that toldH5046[H8688] him, Whence art thou? And he answeredH559[H8799], I am the sonH1121 of a strangerH376[H1616], an AmalekiteH6003. |
[13]And Dauid sayd vnto the young man that brought him these tidings: Whence art thou? He aunswered: I am the sonne of an aliaunt, an Amakelite |
| [14]And DavidH1732 saidH559[H8799] unto him, How wast thou not afraidH3372[H8804] to stretch forthH7971[H8800] thine handH3027 to destroyH7843[H8763] the LORD'SH3068 anointedH4899? |
[14]And Dauid sayde vnto him: Howe is it that thou wast not afrayde to lay thyne hande on the lordes annoynted, to destroy him |
| [15]And DavidH1732 calledH7121[H8799] oneH259 of the young menH5288, and saidH559[H8799], Go nearH5066[H8798], and fallH6293[H8798] upon him. And he smoteH5221[H8686] him that he diedH4191.[H8799] |
[15]And Dauid called one of his young me, and sayd: Go to, and fall vpon him. And he smote him, that he died |
| [16]And DavidH1732 saidH559[H8799] unto him, Thy bloodH1818 be upon thy headH7218; for thy mouthH6310 hath testifiedH6030[H8804] against thee, sayingH559[H8800], I have slainH4191[H8790] the LORD'SH3068 anointedH4899. |
[16]Then said Dauid vnto him, Thy blood be vpon thyne owne head: For thyne owne mouth hath testified against thee, saying, I haue slayne the lordes annoynted |
| [17]And DavidH1732 lamentedH6969[H8787] with this lamentationH7015 over SaulH7586 and over JonathanH3083 his sonH1121: |
[17]And Dauid mourned with this lamentation ouer Saul and ouer Ionathan his sonne |

[18](Also he bad them teache the children of Iuda the vse of the bowe: And beholde, it is written in the booke of the righteous: |

[19]O noble Israel, he is slaine vpon thy hie places: howe are the mightie ouerthrowen |

[20]Tell it not in Gath, nor publishe it in the streates of Askalon: lest the daughters of the Philistines reioyce, and lest the daughters of the vncircumcised triumph |
| [21]Ye mountainsH2022 of GilboaH1533, let there be no dewH2919, neither let there be rainH4306, upon you, nor fieldsH7704 of offeringsH8641: for there the shieldH4043 of the mightyH1368 is vilely cast awayH1602[H8738], the shieldH4043 of SaulH7586, as though he had not been anointedH4899 with oilH8081. |
[21]Ye mountaynes of Gilboa, vpon you be neither deawe nor raine, nor fieldes of offeringes: For there the shield of the mightie is cast downe, the shielde of Saul, as though he had not ben annoynted with oyle |
| [22]From the bloodH1818 of the slainH2491, from the fatH2459 of the mightyH1368, the bowH7198 of JonathanH3083 turnedH7734[H8738] not backH268, and the swordH2719 of SaulH7586 returnedH7725[H8799] not emptyH7387. |
[22]The bowe of Ionathan neuer turned backe, neither did the sword of Saul returne emptie fro the blood of the slayne, and from the fat of the mightie |
| [23]SaulH7586 and JonathanH3083 were lovelyH157[H8737] and pleasantH5273 in their livesH2416, and in their deathH4194 they were not dividedH6504[H8738]: they were swifterH7043[H8804] than eaglesH5404, they were strongerH1396[H8804] than lionsH738. |
[23]Saul and Ionathan were louely and pleasaunt in their lyues, and in their deathes they were not deuided: They were swyfter then Egles, and stronger then Lions |

[24]Ye daughters of Israel weepe ouer Saul, which clothed you in scarlet with pleasures, and hanged ornamentes of golde vpon your apparell |

[25]Howe were the mightie slayne in the middest of the battel? O Ionathan thou wast slayne in thyne hye places |
| [26]I am distressedH6887[H8804] for thee, my brotherH251 JonathanH3083: veryH3966 pleasantH5276[H8804] hast thou been unto me: thy loveH160 to me was wonderfulH6381[H8738], passing the loveH160 of womenH802. |
