[1]Then the Lord sent Nathan unto David, who came to him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city, the one rich, and the other poor. |
[1]And the LORDH3068 sentH7971[H8799] NathanH5416 unto DavidH1732. And he cameH935[H8799] unto him, and saidH559[H8799] unto him, There were twoH8147 menH582 in oneH259 cityH5892; the oneH259 richH6223, and the otherH259 poorH7326.[H8802] |
[2]The rich man had exceeding many sheep and oxen: |
[2]The richH6223 man had exceedingH3966 manyH7235[H8687] flocksH6629 and herdsH1241: |
[3]But the poor had none at all, save one little sheep which he had bought, and nourished up: and it grew up with him, and with his children also, and did eat of his own morsels, and drank of his own cup, and slept in his bosom, and was unto him as his daughter. |
[3]But the poorH7326[H8802] man had nothing, save oneH259 littleH6996 ewe lambH3535, which he had boughtH7069[H8804] and nourished upH2421[H8762]: and it grew upH1431[H8799] togetherH3162 with him, and with his childrenH1121; it did eatH398[H8799] of his own meatH6595, and drankH8354[H8799] of his own cupH3563, and layH7901[H8799] in his bosomH2436, and was unto him as a daughterH1323. |
[4]Now there came a stranger unto the rich man, who refused to take of his own sheep, and of his own oxen to dress for the stranger that was come unto him, but took the poor man's sheep, and dressed it for the man that was come to him. |
[4]And there cameH935[H8799] a travellerH1982 unto the richH6223 manH376, and he sparedH2550[H8799] to takeH3947[H8800] of his own flockH6629 and of his own herdH1241, to dressH6213[H8800] for the wayfaring manH732[H8802] that was comeH935[H8802] unto him; but tookH3947[H8799] the poorH7326[H8802] man'sH376 lambH3535, and dressedH6213[H8799] it for the manH376 that was comeH935 to himH8802. |
[5]Then David was exceeding wroth with the man, and said to Nathan, As the Lord liveth, the man that hath done this thing, shall surely die, |
[5]And David'sH1732 angerH639 was greatlyH3966 kindledH2734[H8799] against the manH376; and he saidH559[H8799] to NathanH5416, As the LORDH3068 livethH2416, the manH376 that hath doneH6213[H8802] this thing shall surelyH1121 dieH4194: |
[6]And he shall restore the lamb four fold, because he did this thing, and had no pity thereof. |
[6]And he shall restoreH7999[H8762] the lambH3535 fourfoldH706, becauseH6118 he didH6213[H8804] this thingH1697, and becauseH834 he had no pityH2550.[H8804] |
[7]Then Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and delivered thee out of the hand of Saul, |
[7]And NathanH5416 saidH559[H8799] to DavidH1732, Thou art the manH376. Thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068 GodH430 of IsraelH3478, I anointedH4886[H8804] thee kingH4428 over IsraelH3478, and I deliveredH5337[H8689] thee out of the handH3027 of SaulH7586; |
[8]And gave thee thy lord's house, and thy lord's wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel, and of Judah, and would moreover ( if that had been too little) have given thee such and such things. |
[8]And I gaveH5414[H8799] thee thy master'sH113 houseH1004, and thy master'sH113 wivesH802 into thy bosomH2436, and gaveH5414[H8799] thee the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 and of JudahH3063; and if that had been too littleH4592, I would moreover have givenH3254[H8686] unto thee suchH2007 and such thingsH2007. |
[9]Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the Lord, to do evil in his sight? Thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon. |
[9]Wherefore hast thou despisedH959[H8804] the commandmentH1697 of the LORDH3068, to doH6213[H8800] evilH7451 in his sightH5869? thou hast killedH5221[H8689] UriahH223 the HittiteH2850 with the swordH2719, and hast takenH3947[H8804] his wifeH802 to be thy wifeH802, and hast slainH2026[H8804] him with the swordH2719 of the childrenH1121 of AmmonH5983. |
[10]Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house, because thou hast despised me, and taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife. |
[10]Now therefore the swordH2719 shall neverH5704[H5769] departH5493[H8799] from thine houseH1004; becauseH6118 thou hast despisedH959[H8804] me, and hast takenH3947[H8799] the wifeH802 of UriahH223 the HittiteH2850 to be thy wifeH802. |
[11]Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbor, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun. |
[11]Thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068, Behold, I will raise upH6965[H8688] evilH7451 against thee out of thine own houseH1004, and I will takeH3947[H8804] thy wivesH802 before thine eyesH5869, and giveH5414[H8804] them unto thy neighbourH7453, and he shall lieH7901[H8804] with thy wivesH802 in the sightH5869 of this sunH8121. |
[12]For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun. |
[12]For thou didstH6213[H8804] it secretlyH5643: but I will doH6213[H8799] this thingH1697 before all IsraelH3478, and before the sunH8121. |
[13]Then David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the Lord. And Nathan said unto David, The Lord also hath put away thy sin, thou shalt not die. |
[13]And DavidH1732 saidH559[H8799] unto NathanH5416, I have sinnedH2398[H8804] against the LORDH3068. And NathanH5416 saidH559[H8799] unto DavidH1732, The LORDH3068 also hath put awayH5674[H8689] thy sinH2403; thou shalt not dieH4191.[H8799] |
[14]Howbeit because by this deed thou hast caused the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, the child that is born unto thee shall surely die. |
[14]HowbeitH657, because by this deedH1697 thou hast givenH5006 great occasionH5006[H8763] to the enemiesH341[H8802] of the LORDH3068 to blasphemeH5006[H8765], the childH1121 also that is bornH3209 unto thee shall surelyH4191[H8800] dieH4191.[H8799] |
[15]So Nathan departed unto his house: and the Lord stroke the child that Uriah's wife bear unto David, and it was sick. |
[15]And NathanH5416 departedH3212[H8799] unto his houseH1004. And the LORDH3068 struckH5062[H8799] the childH3206 that Uriah'sH223 wifeH802 bareH3205[H8804] unto DavidH1732, and it was very sickH605.[H8735] |
[16]David therefore besought God for the child, and fasted and went in, and lay all night upon the earth. |
[16]DavidH1732 therefore besoughtH1245[H8762] GodH430 for the childH5288; and DavidH1732 fastedH6684[H8799][H6685], and went inH935[H8804], and layH7901[H8804] all nightH3885[H8804] upon the earthH776. |
[17]Then the elders of his house arose to come unto him, and to cause him to rise from the ground: but he would not, neither did he eat meat with them. |
[17]And the eldersH2205 of his houseH1004 aroseH6965[H8799], and went to him, to raise him upH6965[H8687] from the earthH776: but he wouldH14[H8804] not, neither did he eatH1262[H8804] bread with themH3899. |
[18]So on the seventh day the child died: and the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they said, Behold, while the child was alive, we spake unto him, and he would not hearken unto our voice: how then shall we say unto him, The child is dead, to vex him more? |
[18]And it came to pass on the seventhH7637 dayH3117, that the childH3206 diedH4191[H8799]. And the servantsH5650 of DavidH1732 fearedH3372[H8799] to tellH5046[H8687] him that the childH3206 was deadH4191[H8804]: for they saidH559[H8804], Behold, while the childH3206 was yet aliveH2416, we spakeH1696[H8765] unto him, and he would not hearkenH8085[H8804] unto our voiceH6963: how will he thenH6213 vexH7451 himselfH6213[H8804], if we tellH559[H8799] him that the childH3206 is deadH4191?[H8804] |
[19]But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: therefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead. |
[19]But when DavidH1732 sawH7200[H8799] that his servantsH5650 whisperedH3907[H8693], DavidH1732 perceivedH995[H8799] that the childH3206 was deadH4191[H8804]: therefore DavidH1732 saidH559[H8799] unto his servantsH5650, Is the childH3206 deadH4191[H8804]? And they saidH559[H8799], He is deadH4191.[H8804] |
[20]Then David arose from the earth, and washed and anointed himself, and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the Lord, and worshiped, and afterward came to his own house, and bade that they should set bread before him, and he did eat. |
[20]Then DavidH1732 aroseH6965[H8799] from the earthH776, and washedH7364[H8799], and anointedH5480[H8686] himself, and changedH2498[H8762] his apparelH8071, and cameH935[H8799] into the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068, and worshippedH7812[H8691]: then he cameH935[H8799] to his own houseH1004; and when he requiredH7592[H8799], they setH7760[H8799] breadH3899 before him, and he did eatH398.[H8799] |
[21]Then said his servants unto him, What thing is this, that thou hast done? Thou didst fast and weep for the child while it was alive, but when the child was dead, thou didst rise up, and eat meat. |
[21]Then saidH559[H8799] his servantsH5650 unto him, What thingH1697 is this that thou hast doneH6213[H8804]? thou didst fastH6684[H8804] and weepH1058[H8799] for the childH3206, while it was aliveH2416; but when the childH3206 was deadH4191[H8804], thou didst riseH6965[H8804] and eatH398[H8799] breadH3899. |
[22]And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted, and wept: for I said, Who can tell whether God will have mercy on me, that the child may live? |
[22]And he saidH559[H8799], While the childH3206 was yet aliveH2416, I fastedH6684[H8804] and weptH1058[H8799]: for I saidH559[H8804], Who can tellH3045[H8802] whether GODH3068 will be graciousH2603[H8804][H8675][H2603][H8762] to me, that the childH3206 may liveH2416? |
[23]But now being dead, wherefore should I now fast? Can I bring him again any more? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me. |
[23]But now he is deadH4191[H8804], wherefore should I fastH6684[H8802]? canH3201[H8799] I bring him back againH7725[H8687]? I shall goH1980[H8802] to him, but he shall not returnH7725 to meH8799. |
[24]And David comforted Bath-sheba his wife, and went in unto her, and lay with her, and she bear a son, and he called his name Solomon: also the Lord loved him. |
[24]And DavidH1732 comfortedH5162[H8762] BathshebaH1339 his wifeH802, and went inH935[H8799] unto her, and layH7901[H8799] with her: and she bareH3205[H8799] a sonH1121, and he calledH7121[H8799] his nameH8034 SolomonH8010: and the LORDH3068 lovedH157 himH8804. |
[25]For the Lord had sent by Nathan the prophet: therefore he called his name Jedidiah, because the Lord loved him. |
[25]And he sentH7971[H8799] by the handH3027 of NathanH5416 the prophetH5030; and he calledH7121[H8799] his nameH8034 JedidiahH3041, because of the LORDH3068. |
[26]Then Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and took the city of the kingdom. |
[26]And JoabH3097 foughtH3898[H8735] against RabbahH7237 of the childrenH1121 of AmmonH5983, and tookH3920[H8799] the royalH4410 cityH5892. |
[27]Therefore Joab sent messengers to David, saying, I have fought against Rabbah, and have taken the city of waters. |
[27]And JoabH3097 sentH7971[H8799] messengersH4397 to DavidH1732, and saidH559[H8799], I have foughtH3898[H8738] against RabbahH7237, and have takenH3920[H8804] the cityH5892 of watersH4325. |
[28]Now therefore gather the rest of the people together, and besiege the city, that thou mayest take it, lest the victory be attributed to me. |
[28]Now therefore gatherH622 the restH3499 of the peopleH5971 togetherH622[H8798], and encampH2583[H8798] against the cityH5892, and takeH3920[H8798] it: lest I takeH3920[H8799] the cityH5892, and it be calledH7121[H8738] after my nameH8034. |
[29]So David gathered all the people together, and went against Rabbah, and besieged it, and took it. |
[29]And DavidH1732 gatheredH622 all the peopleH5971 togetherH622[H8799], and wentH3212[H8799] to RabbahH7237, and foughtH3898[H8735] against it, and tookH3920 itH8799. |
[30]And he took their king's crown from his head, (which weighed a talent of gold, with precious stones) and it was set on David's head: and he brought away the spoil of the city in exceeding great abundance. |
[30]And he tookH3947[H8799] their king'sH4428 crownH5850 from off his headH7218, the weightH4948 whereof was a talentH3603 of goldH2091 with the preciousH3368 stonesH68: and it was set on David'sH1732 headH7218. And he brought forthH3318[H8689] the spoilH7998 of the cityH5892 in greatH3966 abundanceH7235.[H8687] |
[31]And he carried away the people that was therein, and put them under saws, and under iron harrows, and under axes of iron, and cast them into the tile kiln: even thus did he with all the cities of the children of Ammon. Then David and all the people returned unto Jerusalem. |
[31]And he brought forthH3318[H8689] the peopleH5971 that were therein, and putH7760[H8799] them under sawsH4050, and under harrowsH2757 of ironH1270, and under axesH4037 of ironH1270, and made them passH5674[H8689] through the brickkilnH4404: and thus didH6213[H8799] he unto all the citiesH5892 of the childrenH1121 of AmmonH5983. So DavidH1732 and all the peopleH5971 returnedH7725[H8799] unto JerusalemH3389. |
