And the LORDH3068 answeredH559[H8799], It is for SaulH7586, and for his bloodyH1818 houseH1004, because he slewH4191[H8689] the GibeonitesH1393. |
[1]And there is a famine in the days of David three years, year after year, and David seeketh the face of Jehovah, and Jehovah saith, `For Saul and for the bloody house, because that he put to death the Gibeonites.' |
| [2]And the kingH4428 calledH7121[H8799] the GibeonitesH1393, and saidH559[H8799] unto them; (now the GibeonitesH1393 were not of the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, but of the remnantH3499 of the AmoritesH567; and the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 had swornH7650[H8738] unto them: and SaulH7586 soughtH1245[H8762] to slayH5221[H8687] them in his zealH7065[H8763] to the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 and JudahH3063.) |
[2]And the king calleth for the Gibeonites, and saith unto them -- as to the Gibeonites, they [are] not of the sons of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorite, and the sons of Israel had sworn to them, and Saul seeketh to smite them in his zeal for the sons of Israel and Judah -- |
| [3]Wherefore DavidH1732 saidH559[H8799] unto the GibeonitesH1393, What shall I doH6213[H8799] for you? and wherewith shall I make the atonementH3722[H8762], that ye may blessH1288[H8761] the inheritanceH5159 of the LORDH3068? |
[3]yea, David saith unto the Gibeonites, `What do I do for you? and with what do I make atonement? and bless ye the inheritance of Jehovah.' |
| [4]And the GibeonitesH1393 saidH559[H8799] unto him, We will have no silverH3701 nor goldH2091 ofH5973 SaulH7586, nor of his houseH1004; neither for us shalt thou killH4191[H8687] any manH376 in IsraelH3478. And he saidH559[H8799], What ye shall sayH559[H8802], that will I doH6213 for youH8799. |
[4]And the Gibeonites say to him, `We have no silver and gold by Saul and by his house, and we have no man to put to death in Israel;' and he saith, `What ye are saying I do to you.' |
| [5]And they answeredH559[H8799] the kingH4428, The manH376 that consumedH3615[H8765] us, and that devisedH1819[H8765] against us that we should be destroyedH8045[H8738] from remainingH3320[H8692] in any of the coastsH1366 of IsraelH3478, |
[5]And they say unto the king, `The man who consumed us, and who devised against us -- we have been destroyed from stationing ourselves in all the border of Israel -- |
| [6]Let sevenH7651 menH582 of his sonsH1121 be deliveredH5414[H8714] unto us, and we will hang them upH3363[H8689] unto the LORDH3068 in GibeahH1390 of SaulH7586, whom the LORDH3068 did chooseH972. And the kingH4428 saidH559[H8799], I will giveH5414 themH8799. |
[6]let there be given to us seven men of his sons, and we have hanged them before Jehovah, in the height of Saul, the chosen of Jehovah.' And the king saith, `I do give;' |
| [7]But the kingH4428 sparedH2550[H8799] MephiboshethH4648, the sonH1121 of JonathanH3083 the sonH1121 of SaulH7586, because of the LORD'SH3068 oathH7621 that was between them, between DavidH1732 and JonathanH3083 the sonH1121 of SaulH7586. |
[7]and the king hath pity on Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, son of Saul, because of the oath of Jehovah that [is] between them, between David and Jonathan son of Saul; |
| [8]But the kingH4428 tookH3947[H8799] the twoH8147 sonsH1121 of RizpahH7532 the daughterH1323 of AiahH345, whom she bareH3205[H8804] unto SaulH7586, ArmoniH764 and MephiboshethH4648; and the fiveH2568 sonsH1121 of MichalH4324 the daughterH1323 of SaulH7586, whom she brought upH3205[H8804] for AdrielH5741 the sonH1121 of BarzillaiH1271 the MeholathiteH4259: |
[8]and the king taketh the two sons of Rizpah daughter of Aiah, whom she bore to Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth, and the five sons of Michal daughter of Saul whom she bare to Adriel son of Barzillai the Meholathite, |
| [9]And he deliveredH5414[H8799] them into the handsH3027 of the GibeonitesH1393, and they hangedH3363[H8686] them in the hillH2022 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068: and they fellH5307[H8799] all sevenH7651[H8675][H7659] togetherH3162, and were put to deathH4191[H8717] in the daysH3117 of harvestH7105, in the firstH7223 days, in the beginningH8462 of barleyH8184 harvestH7105. |
[9]and giveth them into the hand of the Gibeonites, and they hang them in the hill before Jehovah; and the seven fall together, and they have been put to death in the days of harvest, in the first [days], the commencement of barley-harvest. |
| [10]And RizpahH7532 the daughterH1323 of AiahH345 tookH3947[H8799] sackclothH8242, and spreadH5186[H8686] it for her upon the rockH6697, from the beginningH8462 of harvestH7105 until waterH4325 droppedH5413[H8738] upon them out of heavenH8064, and sufferedH5414[H8804] neither the birdsH5775 of the airH8064 to restH5117[H8800] on them by dayH3119, nor the beastsH2416 of the fieldH7704 by nightH3915. |
[10]And Rizpah daughter of Aiah taketh the sackcloth, and stretcheth it out for herself on the rock, from the commencement of harvest till water hath been poured out upon them from the heavens, and hath not suffered a fowl of the heavens to rest upon them by day, or the beast of the field by night. |
| [11]And it was toldH5046[H8714] DavidH1732 what RizpahH7532 the daughterH1323 of AiahH345, the concubineH6370 of SaulH7586, had doneH6213.[H8804] |
[11]And it is declared to David that which Rizpah daughter of Aiah, concubine of Saul, hath done, |
| [12]And DavidH1732 wentH3212[H8799] and tookH3947[H8799] the bonesH6106 of SaulH7586 and the bonesH6106 of JonathanH3083 his sonH1121 from the menH1167 of JabeshgileadH3003[H1568], which had stolenH1589[H8804] them from the streetH7339 of BethshanH1052, where the PhilistinesH6430 had hangedH8511[H8804][H8675][H8518][H8804] them, whenH3117 the PhilistinesH6430 had slainH5221[H8687] SaulH7586 in GilboaH1533: |
[12]and David goeth and taketh the bones of Saul, and the bones of Jonathan his son, from the possessors of Jabesh-Gilead, who had stolen them from the broad place of Beth-Shan, where the Philistines hanged them, in the day of the Philistines smiting Saul in Gilboa; |
| [13]And he brought upH5927[H8686] from thence the bonesH6106 of SaulH7586 and the bonesH6106 of JonathanH3083 his sonH1121; and they gatheredH622[H8799] the bonesH6106 of them that were hangedH3363.[H8716] |
[13]and he bringeth up thence the bones of Saul, and the bones of Jonathan his son, and they gather the bones of those hanged, |
| [14]And the bonesH6106 of SaulH7586 and JonathanH3083 his sonH1121 buriedH6912[H8799] they in the countryH776 of BenjaminH1144 in ZelahH6762, in the sepulchreH6913 of KishH7027 his fatherH1: and they performedH6213[H8799] all that the kingH4428 commandedH6680[H8765]. And afterH310 that GodH430 was intreatedH6279[H8735] for the landH776. |
[14]and bury the bones of Saul and of Jonathan his son in the land of Benjamin, in Zelah, in the burying-place of Kish his father, and do all that the king commanded, and God is entreated for the land afterwards. |
| [15]Moreover the PhilistinesH6430 had yet warH4421 again with IsraelH3478; and DavidH1732 went downH3381[H8799], and his servantsH5650 with him, and foughtH3898[H8735] against the PhilistinesH6430: and DavidH1732 waxed faintH5774.[H8799] |
[15]And again have the Philistines war with Israel, and David goeth down, and his servants with him, and they fight with the Philistines; and David is weary, |
| [16]And IshbibenobH3430, which was of the sonsH3211 of the giantH7497, the weightH4948 of whose spearH7013 weighed threeH7969 hundredH3967 shekels of brassH5178 in weightH4948, he being girdedH2296[H8803] with a newH2319 sword, thoughtH559[H8799] to have slainH5221[H8687] DavidH1732. |
[16]and Ishbi-Benob, who [is] among the children of the giant -- the weight of his spear [is] three hundred [shekels] weight of brass, and he is girded with a new one -- speaketh of smiting David, |
| [17]But AbishaiH52 the sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870 succouredH5826[H8799] him, and smoteH5221[H8686] the PhilistineH6430, and killedH4191[H8686] him. Then the menH582 of DavidH1732 swareH7650[H8738] unto him, sayingH559[H8800], Thou shalt goH3318[H8799] no more out with us to battleH4421, that thou quenchH3518[H8762] not the lightH5216 of IsraelH3478. |
[17]and Abishai son of Zeruiah giveth help to him, and smiteth the Philistine, and putteth him to death; then swear the men of David to him, saying, `Thou dost not go out again with us to battle, nor quench the lamp of Israel.' |
| [18]And it came to pass after thisH310, that there was again a battleH4421 with the PhilistinesH6430 at GobH1359: then SibbechaiH5444 the HushathiteH2843 slewH5221[H8689] SaphH5593, which was of the sonsH3211 of the giantH7497. |
[18]And it cometh to pass afterwards, that the battle is again in Gob with the Philistines, then hath Sibbechai the Hushathite smitten Saph, who [is] among the children of the giant. |
| [19]And there was again a battleH4421 in GobH1359 with the PhilistinesH6430, where ElhananH445 the sonH1121 of JaareoregimH3296, a BethlehemiteH1022, slewH5221[H8686] the brother of GoliathH1555 the GittiteH1663, the staffH6086 of whose spearH2595 was like a weaver'sH707[H8802] beamH4500. |
[19]And the battle is again in Gob with the Philistines, and Elhanan son of Jaare-Oregim, the Beth-Lehemite, smiteth [a brother of] Goliath the Gittite, and the wood of his spear [is] like a beam of weavers. |
| [20]And there was yet a battleH4421 in GathH1661, where was a manH376 of great statureH4067[H8675][H4055], that had on every handH3027 sixH8337 fingersH676, and on every footH7272 sixH8337 toesH676, fourH702 and twentyH6242 in numberH4557; and he also was bornH3205[H8795] to the giantH7497. |
[20]And the battle is again in Gath, and there is a man of stature, and the fingers of his hands [are] six, and the toes of his feet [are] six, twenty and four in number, and he also hath been born to the giant, |
| [21]And when he defiedH2778[H8762] IsraelH3478, JonathanH3083 the sonH1121 of ShimeaH8092 the brotherH251 of DavidH1732 slewH5221 himH8686. |
[21]and he reproacheth Israel, and smite him doth Jonathan son of Shimeah, brother of David; |
| [22]These fourH702 were bornH3205[H8795] to the giantH7497 in GathH1661, and fellH5307[H8799] by the handH3027 of DavidH1732, and by the handH3027 of his servantsH5650. |
[22]these four have been born to the giant in Gath, and they fall by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants. |
