[1]Now there was longH752 warH4421 between the houseH1004 of SaulH7586 and the houseH1004 of DavidH1732: but DavidH1732 waxedH1980[H8802] strongerH2390 and strongerH2390, and the houseH1004 of SaulH7586 waxedH1980[H8802] weakerH1800 and weakerH1800. |

| [6]וַיְהִ֗י בִּֽהְיֹות֙ הַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה בֵּ֚ין בֵּ֣ית שָׁא֔וּל וּבֵ֖ין בֵּ֣ית דָּוִ֑ד וְאַבְנֵ֛ר הָיָ֥ה מִתְחַזֵּ֖ק בְּבֵ֥ית שָׁאֽוּל׃ |
[6]And it came to pass, while there was warH4421 between the houseH1004 of SaulH7586 and the houseH1004 of DavidH1732, that AbnerH74 made himself strongH2388[H8693] for the houseH1004 of SaulH7586. |

| [8]וַיִּחַר֩ לְאַבְנֵ֨ר מְאֹ֜ד עַל־דִּבְרֵ֣י אִֽישׁ־בֹּ֗שֶׁת וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ הֲרֹ֨אשׁ כֶּ֥לֶב אָנֹ֘כִי֮ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לִֽיהוּדָה֒ הַיֹּ֨ום אֶֽעֱשֶׂה־חֶ֜סֶד עִם־בֵּ֣ית ׀ שָׁא֣וּל אָבִ֗יךָ אֶל־אֶחָיו֙ וְאֶל־מֵ֣רֵעֵ֔הוּ וְלֹ֥א הִמְצִיתִ֖ךָ בְּיַד־דָּוִ֑ד וַתִּפְקֹ֥ד עָלַ֛י עֲוֹ֥ן הָאִשָּׁ֖ה הַיֹּֽום׃ |

| [9]כֹּֽה־יַעֲשֶׂ֤ה אֱלֹהִים֙ לְאַבְנֵ֔ר וְכֹ֖ה יֹסִ֣יף לֹ֑ו כִּ֗י כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר נִשְׁבַּ֤ע יְהוָה֙ לְדָוִ֔ד כִּֽי־כֵ֖ן אֶֽעֱשֶׂה־לֹּֽו׃ |

| [10]לְהַֽעֲבִ֥יר הַמַּמְלָכָ֖ה מִבֵּ֣ית שָׁא֑וּל וּלְהָקִ֞ים אֶת־כִּסֵּ֣א דָוִ֗ד עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ וְעַל־יְהוּדָ֔ה מִדָּ֖ן וְעַד־בְּאֵ֥ר שָֽׁבַע׃ |
[10]To translateH5674[H8687] the kingdomH4467 from the houseH1004 of SaulH7586, and to set upH6965[H8687] the throneH3678 of DavidH1732 over IsraelH3478 and over JudahH3063, from DanH1835 even to BeershebaH884. |
| [11]וְלֹֽא־יָכֹ֣ל עֹ֔וד לְהָשִׁ֥יב אֶת־אַבְנֵ֖ר דָּבָ֑ר מִיִּרְאָתֹ֖ו אֹתֹֽו׃ |
[11]And he couldH3201[H8804] not answerH7725[H8687] AbnerH74 a wordH1697 again, because he fearedH3372 himH8800. |

| [13]וַיֹּ֣אמֶר טֹ֔וב אֲנִ֕י אֶכְרֹ֥ת אִתְּךָ֖ בְּרִ֑ית אַ֣ךְ דָּבָ֣ר אֶחָ֡ד אָנֹכִי֩ שֹׁאֵ֨ל מֵאִתְּךָ֤ לֵאמֹר֙ לֹא־תִרְאֶ֣ה אֶת־פָּנַ֔י כִּ֣י ׀ אִם־לִפְנֵ֣י הֱבִיאֲךָ֗ אֵ֚ת מִיכַ֣ל בַּת־שָׁא֔וּל בְּבֹאֲךָ֖ לִרְאֹ֥ות אֶת־פָּנָֽי׃ |

| [14]וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח דָּוִד֙ מַלְאָכִ֔ים אֶל־אִֽישׁ־בֹּ֥שֶׁת בֶּן־שָׁא֖וּל לֵאמֹ֑ר תְּנָ֤ה אֶת־אִשְׁתִּי֙ אֶת־מִיכַ֔ל אֲשֶׁר֙ אֵרַ֣שְׂתִּי לִ֔י בְּמֵאָ֖ה עָרְלֹ֥ות פְּלִשְׁתִּֽים׃ |
[14]And DavidH1732 sentH7971[H8799] messengersH4397 to IshboshethH378 Saul'sH7586 sonH1121, sayingH559[H8800], DeliverH5414[H8798] me my wifeH802 MichalH4324, which I espousedH781[H8765] to me for an hundredH3967 foreskinsH6190 of the PhilistinesH6430. |
| [15]וַיִּשְׁלַח֙ אִ֣ישׁ בֹּ֔שֶׁת וַיִּקָּחֶ֖הָ מֵ֣עִֽם אִ֑ישׁ מֵעִ֖ם פַּלְטִיאֵ֥ל בֶּן־ [לוּשׁ כ] (לָֽיִשׁ׃ ק) |
[15]And IshboshethH378 sentH7971[H8799], and tookH3947[H8799] her from her husbandH376, even from PhaltielH6409 the sonH1121 of LaishH3889[H8675].[H3919] |
| [16]וַיֵּ֨לֶךְ אִתָּ֜הּ אִישָׁ֗הּ הָלֹ֧וךְ וּבָכֹ֛ה אַחֲרֶ֖יהָ עַד־בַּֽחֻרִ֑ים וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֵלָ֥יו אַבְנֵ֛ר לֵ֥ךְ שׁ֖וּב וַיָּשֹֽׁב׃ |

| [17]וּדְבַר־אַבְנֵ֣ר הָיָ֔ה עִם־זִקְנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לֵאמֹ֑ר גַּם־תְּמֹול֙ גַּם־שִׁלְשֹׁ֔ם הֱיִיתֶ֞ם מְבַקְשִׁ֧ים אֶת־דָּוִ֛ד לְמֶ֖לֶךְ עֲלֵיכֶֽם׃ |
[17]And AbnerH74 had communicationH1961[H8804][H1697] with the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478, sayingH559[H8800], Ye soughtH1245[H8764] for DavidH1732 in timesH8543 pastH8032 to be king over youH4428: |
| [18]וְעַתָּ֖ה עֲשׂ֑וּ כִּ֣י יְהוָ֗ה אָמַ֤ר אֶל־דָּוִד֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר בְּיַ֣ד ׀ דָּוִ֣ד עַבְדִּ֗י הֹושִׁ֜יעַ אֶת־עַמִּ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ מִיַּ֣ד פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים וּמִיַּ֖ד כָּל־אֹיְבֵיהֶֽם׃ |
[18]Now then doH6213[H8798] it: for the LORDH3068 hath spokenH559[H8804] of DavidH1732, sayingH559[H8800], By the handH3027 of my servantH5650 DavidH1732 I will saveH3467[H8687] my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478 out of the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430, and out of the handH3027 of all their enemiesH341.[H8802] |
| [19]וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר גַּם־אַבְנֵ֖ר בְּאָזְנֵ֣י בִנְיָמִ֑ין וַיֵּ֣לֶךְ גַּם־אַבְנֵ֗ר לְדַבֵּ֞ר בְּאָזְנֵ֤י דָוִד֙ בְּחֶבְרֹ֔ון אֵ֤ת כָּל־אֲשֶׁר־טֹוב֙ בְּעֵינֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וּבְעֵינֵ֖י כָּל־בֵּ֥ית בִּנְיָמִֽן׃ |
[19]And AbnerH74 also spakeH1696[H8762] in the earsH241 of BenjaminH1144: and AbnerH74 wentH3212[H8799] also to speakH1696[H8763] in the earsH241 of DavidH1732 in HebronH2275 all that seemedH5869 goodH2896 to IsraelH3478, and that seemed goodH5869 to the whole houseH1004 of BenjaminH1144. |
| [20]וַיָּבֹ֨א אַבְנֵ֤ר אֶל־דָּוִד֙ חֶבְרֹ֔ון וְאִתֹּ֖ו עֶשְׂרִ֣ים אֲנָשִׁ֑ים וַיַּ֨עַשׂ דָּוִ֧ד לְאַבְנֵ֛ר וְלַאֲנָשִׁ֥ים אֲשֶׁר־אִתֹּ֖ו מִשְׁתֶּֽה׃ |
[20]So AbnerH74 cameH935[H8799] to DavidH1732 to HebronH2275, and twentyH6242 menH582 with him. And DavidH1732 madeH6213[H8799] AbnerH74 and the menH582 that were with him a feastH4960. |
| [21]וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אַבְנֵ֣ר אֶל־דָּוִ֡ד אָק֣וּמָה ׀ וְֽאֵלֵ֡כָה וְאֶקְבְּצָה֩ אֶל־אֲדֹנִ֨י הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ אֶת־כָּל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל וְיִכְרְת֤וּ אִתְּךָ֙ בְּרִ֔ית וּמָ֣לַכְתָּ֔ בְּכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־תְּאַוֶּ֖ה נַפְשֶׁ֑ךָ וַיְּשַׁלַּ֥ח דָּוִ֛ד אֶת־אַבְנֵ֖ר וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ בְּשָׁלֹֽום׃ |
[21]And AbnerH74 saidH559[H8799] unto DavidH1732, I will ariseH6965[H8799] and goH3212[H8799], and will gatherH6908[H8799] all IsraelH3478 unto my lordH113 the kingH4428, that they may makeH3772[H8799] a leagueH1285 with thee, and that thou mayest reignH4427[H8804] over all that thine heartH5315 desirethH183[H8762]. And DavidH1732 sentH7971 AbnerH74 awayH7971[H8762]; and he wentH3212[H8799] in peaceH7965. |
| [22]וְהִנֵּה֩ עַבְדֵ֨י דָוִ֤ד וְיֹואָב֙ בָּ֣א מֵֽהַגְּד֔וּד וְשָׁלָ֥ל רָ֖ב עִמָּ֣ם הֵבִ֑יאוּ וְאַבְנֵ֗ר אֵינֶ֤נּוּ עִם־דָּוִד֙ בְּחֶבְרֹ֔ון כִּ֥י שִׁלְּחֹ֖ו וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ בְּשָׁלֹֽום׃ |
[22]And, behold, the servantsH5650 of DavidH1732 and JoabH3097 cameH935[H8802] from pursuing a troopH1416, and brought inH935[H8689] a greatH7227 spoilH7998 with them: but AbnerH74 was not with DavidH1732 in HebronH2275; for he had sent him awayH7971[H8765], and he was goneH3212[H8799] in peaceH7965. |
| [23]וְיֹואָ֛ב וְכָל־הַצָּבָ֥א אֲשֶׁר־אִתֹּ֖ו בָּ֑אוּ וַיַּגִּ֤דוּ לְיֹואָב֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר בָּֽא־אַבְנֵ֤ר בֶּן־נֵר֙ אֶל־הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וַֽיְשַׁלְּחֵ֖הוּ וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ בְּשָׁלֹֽום׃ |
[23]When JoabH3097 and all the hostH6635 that was with him were comeH935[H8804], they toldH5046[H8686] JoabH3097, sayingH559[H8800], AbnerH74 the sonH1121 of NerH5369 cameH935[H8804] to the kingH4428, and he hath sent him awayH7971[H8762], and he is goneH3212[H8799] in peaceH7965. |
| [24]וַיָּבֹ֤א יֹואָב֙ אֶל־הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וַיֹּ֖אמֶר מֶ֣ה עָשִׂ֑יתָה הִנֵּה־בָ֤א אַבְנֵר֙ אֵלֶ֔יךָ לָמָּה־זֶּ֥ה שִׁלַּחְתֹּ֖ו וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ הָלֹֽוךְ׃ |
[24]Then JoabH3097 cameH935[H8799] to the kingH4428, and saidH559[H8799], What hast thou doneH6213[H8804]? behold, AbnerH74 cameH935[H8802] unto thee; why is it that thou hast sent him awayH7971[H8765], and he is quiteH1980[H8800] goneH3212?[H8799] |
| [25]יָדַ֙עְתָּ֙ אֶת־אַבְנֵ֣ר בֶּן־נֵ֔ר כִּ֥י לְפַתֹּתְךָ֖ בָּ֑א וְלָדַ֜עַת אֶת־מֹוצָֽאֲךָ֙ וְאֶת־ [מִבֹואֶךָ כ] (מֹ֣ובָאֶ֔ךָ ק) וְלָדַ֕עַת אֵ֛ת כָּל־אֲשֶׁ֥ר אַתָּ֖ה עֹשֶֽׂה׃ |
[25]Thou knowestH3045[H8804] AbnerH74 the sonH1121 of NerH5369, that he cameH935[H8804] to deceiveH6601[H8763] thee, and to knowH3045[H8800] thy going outH4161 and thy coming inH4126[H8675][H3996], and to knowH3045[H8800] all that thou doestH6213.[H8802] |
| [26]וַיֵּצֵ֤א יֹואָב֙ מֵעִ֣ם דָּוִ֔ד וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח מַלְאָכִים֙ אַחֲרֵ֣י אַבְנֵ֔ר וַיָּשִׁ֥בוּ אֹתֹ֖ו מִבֹּ֣ור הַסִּרָ֑ה וְדָוִ֖ד לֹ֥א יָדָֽע׃ |
[26]And when JoabH3097 was come outH3318[H8799] from DavidH1732, he sentH7971[H8799] messengersH4397 afterH310 AbnerH74, which brought him againH7725[H8686] from the wellH953 of SirahH5626: but DavidH1732 knewH3045 it notH8804. |
| [27]וַיָּ֤שָׁב אַבְנֵר֙ חֶבְרֹ֔ון וַיַּטֵּ֤הוּ יֹואָב֙ אֶל־תֹּ֣וךְ הַשַּׁ֔עַר לְדַּבֵּ֥ר אִתֹּ֖ו בַּשֶּׁ֑לִי וַיַּכֵּ֤הוּ שָׁם֙ הַחֹ֔מֶשׁ וַיָּ֕מָת בְּדַ֖ם עֲשָׂה־אֵ֥ל אָחִֽיו׃ |
[27]And when AbnerH74 was returnedH7725[H8799] to HebronH2275, JoabH3097 took him asideH5186[H8686] inH413[H8432] the gateH8179 to speakH1696[H8763] with him quietlyH7987, and smoteH5221[H8686] him there under the fifthH2570 rib, that he diedH4191[H8799], for the bloodH1818 of AsahelH6214 his brotherH251. |
| [28]וַיִּשְׁמַ֤ע דָּוִד֙ מֵאַ֣חֲרֵי כֵ֔ן וַיֹּ֗אמֶר נָקִ֨י אָנֹכִ֧י וּמַמְלַכְתִּ֛י מֵעִ֥ם יְהוָ֖ה עַד־עֹולָ֑ם מִדְּמֵ֖י אַבְנֵ֥ר בֶּן־נֵֽר׃ |
[28]And afterwardH310 when DavidH1732 heardH8085[H8799] it, he saidH559[H8799], I and my kingdomH4467 are guiltlessH5355 before the LORDH3068 forH5704 everH5769 from the bloodH1818 of AbnerH74 the sonH1121 of NerH5369: |
| [29]יָחֻ֙לוּ֙ עַל־רֹ֣אשׁ יֹואָ֔ב וְאֶ֖ל כָּל־בֵּ֣ית אָבִ֑יו וְֽאַל־יִכָּרֵ֣ת מִבֵּ֣ית יֹואָ֡ב זָ֠ב וּמְצֹרָ֞ע וּמַחֲזִ֥יק בַּפֶּ֛לֶךְ וְנֹפֵ֥ל בַּחֶ֖רֶב וַחֲסַר־לָֽחֶם׃ |
[29]Let it restH2342[H8799] on the headH7218 of JoabH3097, and on all his father'sH1 houseH1004; and let there not failH3772[H8735] from the houseH1004 of JoabH3097 one that hath an issueH2100[H8802], or that is a leperH6879[H8794], or that leanethH2388[H8688] on a staffH6418, or that fallethH5307[H8802] on the swordH2719, or that lackethH2638 breadH3899. |
| [30]וְיֹואָב֙ וַאֲבִישַׁ֣י אָחִ֔יו הָרְג֖וּ לְאַבְנֵ֑ר עַל֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר הֵמִ֜ית אֶת־עֲשָׂהאֵ֧ל אֲחִיהֶ֛ם בְּגִבְעֹ֖ון בַּמִּלְחָמָֽה׃ |
[30]So JoabH3097 and AbishaiH52 his brotherH251 slewH2026[H8804] AbnerH74, because he had slainH4191[H8689] their brotherH251 AsahelH6214 at GibeonH1391 in the battleH4421. |
| [31]וַיֹּאמֶר֩ דָּוִ֨ד אֶל־יֹואָ֜ב וְאֶל־כָּל־הָעָ֣ם אֲשֶׁר־אִתֹּ֗ו קִרְע֤וּ בִגְדֵיכֶם֙ וְחִגְר֣וּ שַׂקִּ֔ים וְסִפְד֖וּ לִפְנֵ֣י אַבְנֵ֑ר וְהַמֶּ֣לֶךְ דָּוִ֔ד הֹלֵ֖ךְ אַחֲרֵ֥י הַמִּטָּֽה׃ |
[31]And DavidH1732 saidH559[H8799] to JoabH3097, and to all the peopleH5971 that were with him, RendH7167[H8798] your clothesH899, and girdH2296[H8798] you with sackclothH8242, and mournH5594[H8798] beforeH6440 AbnerH74. And kingH4428 DavidH1732 himself followedH1980[H8802][H310] the bierH4296. |
| [32]וַיִּקְבְּר֥וּ אֶת־אַבְנֵ֖ר בְּחֶבְרֹ֑ון וַיִשָּׂ֧א הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ אֶת־קֹולֹ֗ו וַיֵּבְךְּ֙ אֶל־קֶ֣בֶר אַבְנֵ֔ר וַיִּבְכּ֖וּ כָּל־הָעָֽם׃ |
[32]And they buriedH6912[H8799] AbnerH74 in HebronH2275: and the kingH4428 lifted upH5375[H8799] his voiceH6963, and weptH1058[H8799] at the graveH6913 of AbnerH74; and all the peopleH5971 weptH1058.[H8799] |
| [33]וַיְקֹנֵ֥ן הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ אֶל־אַבְנֵ֖ר וַיֹּאמַ֑ר הַכְּמֹ֥ות נָבָ֖ל יָמ֥וּת אַבְנֵֽר׃ |
[33]And the kingH4428 lamentedH6969[H8787] over AbnerH74, and saidH559[H8799], DiedH4191[H8799] AbnerH74 as a foolH5036 diethH4194? |
| [34]יָדֶ֣ךָ לֹֽא־אֲסֻרֹ֗ות וְרַגְלֶ֙יךָ֙ לֹא־לִנְחֻשְׁתַּ֣יִם הֻגָּ֔שׁוּ כִּנְפֹ֛ול לִפְנֵ֥י בְנֵֽי־עַוְלָ֖ה נָפָ֑לְתָּ וַיֹּסִ֥פוּ כָל־הָעָ֖ם לִבְכֹּ֥ות עָלָֽיו׃ |
[34]Thy handsH3027 were not boundH631[H8803], nor thy feetH7272 putH5066[H8717] into fettersH5178: as a man fallethH5307[H8800] beforeH6440 wickedH5766 menH1121, so fellestH5307[H8804] thou. And all the peopleH5971 weptH1058[H8800] againH3254 over himH8686. |
| [35]וַיָּבֹ֣א כָל־הָעָ֗ם לְהַבְרֹ֧ות אֶת־דָּוִ֛ד לֶ֖חֶם בְּעֹ֣וד הַיֹּ֑ום וַיִּשָּׁבַ֨ע דָּוִ֜ד לֵאמֹ֗ר כֹּ֣ה יַעֲשֶׂה־לִּ֤י אֱלֹהִים֙ וְכֹ֣ה יֹסִ֔יף כִּ֣י אִם־לִפְנֵ֧י בֹֽוא־הַשֶּׁ֛מֶשׁ אֶטְעַם־לֶ֖חֶם אֹ֥ו כָל־מְאֽוּמָה׃ |

| [36]וְכָל־הָעָ֣ם הִכִּ֔ירוּ וַיִּיטַ֖ב בְּעֵֽינֵיהֶ֑ם כְּכֹל֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֣ה הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ בְּעֵינֵ֥י כָל־הָעָ֖ם טֹֽוב׃ |
[36]And all the peopleH5971 took noticeH5234[H8689] of it, and it pleasedH3190[H8799][H5869] them: as whatsoever the kingH4428 didH6213[H8804] pleasedH5869[H2896] all the peopleH5971. |
| [37]וַיֵּדְע֧וּ כָל־הָעָ֛ם וְכָל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בַּיֹּ֣ום הַה֑וּא כִּ֣י לֹ֤א הָיְתָה֙ מֵֽהַמֶּ֔לֶךְ לְהָמִ֖ית אֶת־אַבְנֵ֥ר בֶּן־נֵֽר׃ |
[37]For all the peopleH5971 and all IsraelH3478 understoodH3045[H8799] that dayH3117 that it was not of the kingH4428 to slayH4191[H8687] AbnerH74 the sonH1121 of NerH5369. |
| [38]וַיֹּ֥אמֶר הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ אֶל־עֲבָדָ֑יו הֲלֹ֣וא תֵדְע֔וּ כִּי־שַׂ֣ר וְגָדֹ֗ול נָפַ֛ל הַיֹּ֥ום הַזֶּ֖ה בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ |
[38]And the kingH4428 saidH559[H8799] unto his servantsH5650, KnowH3045[H8799] ye not that there is a princeH8269 and a great manH1419 fallenH5307[H8804] this dayH3117 in IsraelH3478? |
| [39]וְאָנֹכִ֨י הַיֹּ֥ום רַךְ֙ וּמָשׁ֣וּחַ מֶ֔לֶךְ וְהָאֲנָשִׁ֥ים הָאֵ֛לֶּה בְּנֵ֥י צְרוּיָ֖ה קָשִׁ֣ים מִמֶּ֑נִּי יְשַׁלֵּ֧ם יְהוָ֛ה לְעֹשֵׂ֥ה הָרָעָ֖ה כְּרָעָתֹֽו׃ |
[39]And I am this dayH3117 weakH7390, though anointedH4886[H8803] kingH4428; and these menH582 the sonsH1121 of ZeruiahH6870 be too hardH7186 for me: the LORDH3068 shall rewardH7999[H8762] the doer of evilH6213[H8802] according to his wickednessH7451. |
