[1]And when Saul'sH7586 sonH1121 heardH8085[H8799] that AbnerH74 was deadH4191[H8804] in HebronH2275, his handsH3027 were feebleH7503[H8799], and all the IsraelitesH3478 were troubledH926.[H8738] [1]And when Saul's son heard that Abner was dead in Hebron, then his hands were feeble, and all Israel was afraid,
[2]And Saul'sH7586 sonH1121 hadH1961[H8804] twoH8147 menH582 that were captainsH8269 of bandsH1416: the nameH8034 of the oneH259 was BaanahH1196, and the nameH8034 of the otherH8145 RechabH7394, the sonsH1121 of RimmonH7417 a BeerothiteH886, of the childrenH1121 of BenjaminH1144: (for BeerothH881 also was reckonedH2803[H8735] to BenjaminH1144: [2]And Saul's son had two men that were captains of bands: the one called Baanah, and the other called Rechab, the sons of Rimmon a Beerothite of the children of Benjamin. (for Beeroth was reckoned to Benjamin,
[3]And the BeerothitesH886 fledH1272[H8799] to GittaimH1664, and were sojournersH1481[H8802] there until this dayH3117.) [3]Because the Beerothites fled to Gittaim, and sojourned there, unto this day).
[4]And JonathanH3083, Saul'sH7586 sonH1121, had a sonH1121 that was lameH5223 of his feetH7272. He was fiveH2568 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when the tidingsH8052 cameH935[H8800] of SaulH7586 and JonathanH3083 out of JezreelH3157, and his nurseH539[H8802] took him upH5375[H8799], and fledH5127[H8799]: and it came to pass, as she made hasteH2648[H8800] to fleeH5127[H8800], that he fellH5307[H8799], and became lameH6452[H8735]. And his nameH8034 was MephiboshethH4648. [4]And Jonathan Saul's son had a son that was lame on his feet: he was five year old when the tidings came of Saul and Jonathan out of Israel: then his nurse took him, and fled away. And as she made haste to flee, the child fell, and began to halt, and his name was Mephibosheth.
[5]And the sonsH1121 of RimmonH7417 the BeerothiteH886, RechabH7394 and BaanahH1196, wentH3212[H8799], and cameH935[H8799] about the heatH2527 of the dayH3117 to the houseH1004 of IshboshethH378, who layH7901[H8802] on a bedH4904 at noonH6672. [5]And the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah went and came in the heat of the day to the house of Ish-bosheth (who slept on a bed at noon)
[6]And they came thitherH935[H8804] into the midstH8432 of the houseH1004, as though they would have fetchedH3947[H8802] wheatH2406; and they smoteH5221[H8686] him under the fifthH2570 rib: and RechabH7394 and BaanahH1196 his brotherH251 escapedH4422.[H8738] [6]And behold, Rechab and Baanah his brother came into the midst of the house as they would have wheat, and they smote him under the fifth rib, and fled.
[7]For when they cameH935[H8799] into the houseH1004, he layH7901[H8802] on his bedH4296 in his bedchamberH2315[H4904], and they smoteH5221[H8686] him, and slewH4191[H8686] him, and beheadedH5493[H8686] him, and tookH3947[H8799] his headH7218, and gat them awayH3212[H8799] throughH1870 the plainH6160 all nightH3915. [7]For when they came into the house, he slept on his bed in his bed chamber, and they smote him, and slew him, and beheaded him, and took his head, and gat them away through the plain all the night.
[8]And they broughtH935[H8686] the headH7218 of IshboshethH378 unto DavidH1732 to HebronH2275, and saidH559[H8799] to the kingH4428, Behold the headH7218 of IshboshethH378 the sonH1121 of SaulH7586 thine enemyH341[H8802], which soughtH1245[H8765] thy lifeH5315; and the LORDH3068 hathH5414[H8799] avengedH5360 my lordH113 the kingH4428 this dayH3117 of SaulH7586, and of his seedH2233. [8]And they brought the head of Ish-bosheth unto David to Hebron, and said to the king, Behold the head of Ish-bosheth Saul's son thine enemy, who sought after thy life: and the Lord hath avenged my lord the king this day of Saul, and of his seed.
[9]And DavidH1732 answeredH6030[H8799] RechabH7394 and BaanahH1196 his brotherH251, the sonsH1121 of RimmonH7417 the BeerothiteH886, and saidH559[H8799] unto them, As the LORDH3068 livethH2416, who hath redeemedH6299[H8804] my soulH5315 out of all adversityH6869, [9]Then David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said unto them, As the Lord liveth, who hath delivered my soul out of all adversity,
[10]When one toldH5046[H8688] me, sayingH559[H8800], Behold, SaulH7586 is deadH4191[H8804], thinking to have broughtH5869 good tidingsH1319[H8764], I took holdH270[H8799] of him, and slewH2026[H8799] him in ZiklagH6860, who thought that I would have givenH5414[H8800] him a reward for his tidingsH1309: [10]When one told me, and said that Saul was dead, (thinking to have brought good tidings) I took him and slew him in Ziklag, who thought that I would have given him a reward for his tidings:
[11]How much more, when wickedH7563 menH582 have slainH2026[H8804] a righteousH6662 personH376 in his own houseH1004 upon his bedH4904? shall I not therefore now requireH1245[H8762] his bloodH1818 of your handH3027, and take you awayH1197[H8765] from the earthH776? [11]How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house, and upon his bed? Shall I not now therefore require his blood at your hand, and take you from the earth?
[12]And DavidH1732 commandedH6680[H8762] his young menH5288, and they slewH2026[H8799] them, and cut offH7112[H8762] their handsH3027 and their feetH7272, and hanged them upH8518[H8799] over the poolH1295 in HebronH2275. But they tookH3947[H8804] the headH7218 of IshboshethH378, and buriedH6912[H8799] it in the sepulchreH6913 of AbnerH74 in HebronH2275. [12]Then David commanded his young men, and they slew them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and hanged them up over the pool in Hebron: but they took the head of Ishbosheth, and buried it in the sepulchre of Abner in Hebron.
