| [1]וכד איתוהי הוא אפלו ב בקורנתוס אתכרכ פולוס באתרותא עליא ואתא לאפסוס ומשׁאל הוא לתלמידא אילינ דאשׁכח תמנ |
[1]And it came to pass, while Apollos was at Corinthus, that Paul when he passed through the upper coasts, came to Ephesus, and found certain disciples, |
| [2]דאנ קבלתונ רוחא דקודשׁא מנ דהימנתונ ענו ואמרינ לה ואפ לא אנ אית רוחא דקודשׁא שׁמיע לנ |
[2]And said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be an Holy Ghost. |
| [3]אמר להונ ובמנא עמדתונ אמרינ במעמודיתה דיוחננ |
[3]And he said unto them, Unto what were ye then baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. |
| [4]אמר להונ פולוס יוחננ אעמד מעמודיתא דתיבותא לעמא כד אמר הוא דנהימנונ באינא דאתא בתרה דאיתוהי ישׁוע משׁיחא |
[4]Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe in him, which should come after him, that is, in Christ Jesus. |
| [5]וכד הלינ שׁמעו עמדו בשׁמה דמרנ ישׁוע משׁיחא |
[5]So when they heard it, they were baptized in the Name of the Lord Jesus. |
| [6]וסמ עליהונ אידא פולוס ואתא רוחא דקודשׁא עליהונ וממללינ הוו בלשׁנ לשׁנ ומתנבינ הוו |
[6]And Paul laid his hands upon them, and the Holy Ghost came on them, and they spake the tongues, and prophesied. |
| [7]הוינ הוו דינ כלהונ אנשׁא תרעסר |
[7]And all the men were about twelve. |
| [8]ועל הוא פולוס לכנושׁתא וממלל הוא עינ בגלא ירחא תלתא ומפיס הוא על מלכותה דאלהא |
[8] Moreover he went into the Synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and exhorting to the things that appertain to the kingdom of God. |
| [9]ואנשׁינ מנהונ מתקשׁינ הוו ומתחרינ ומצחינ לאורחא דאלהא קדמ כנשׁא דעממא הידינ ארחק פולוס ופרשׁ מנהונ לתלמידא וכליומ ממלל הוא עמהונ באסכולא דגברא דשׁמה טורנוס |
[9]But when certain were hardened, and disobeyed, speaking evil of the way of God before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, and disputed daily in the school of one Tyrannus. |
| [10]והדא הות שׁנינ תרתינ עדמא דשׁמעו מלתא דמריא כלהונ דעמרינ באסיא יהודיא וארמיא |
[10]And this was done by the space of two years, so that all they which dwelt in Asia, heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Grecians. |
| [11]וחילא רורבא עבד הוא אלהא באידה דפולוס |
[11]And God wrought no small miracles by the hands of Paul, |
| [12]הכנא דאפ מנ נחתא דעל גושׁמה סודרא או רוקעא מיתינ הוו וסימינ על כריהא ופרקינ הוו מנהונ כורהנא ואפ שׁאדא נפקינ הוו |
[12]So that from his body were brought unto the sick, kerchiefs or handkerchiefs, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them. |
| [13]צבו הוו דינ אפ אנשׁא יהודיא אילינ דמתכרכינ הוו ומומינ על שׁאדא דנומונ בשׁמה דמרנ ישׁוע על אילינ דאית הוי להונ רוחא טנפתא כד אמרינ הוו מומינ חננ לכונ בשׁמה דישׁוע אינא דמכרז פולוס |
[13]Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took in hand to name over them which had evil spirits, the Name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus, whom Paul preacheth. |
| [14]אית הוא דינ שׁבעא בנוהי דגברא חד יהודיא רב כהנא דשׁמה הוא סקוא דעבדינ הוו הדא |
[14](And there were certain sons of Sceva a Jew, the Priest, about seven which did this) |
| [15]וענא שׁאדא הו בישׁא ואמר להונ לישׁוע משׁתודע אנא ולפולוס ידע אנא אנתונ דינ מנ אנתונ |
[15]And the evil spirit answered, and said, Jesus I acknowledge, and Paul I know: but who are ye? |
| [16]ושׁור עליהונ גברא הו דאית הוא בה רוחא בישׁתא ואתחיל עליהונ ושׁפל אנונ וכד שׁליחינ ופעיעינ ערקו מנ ביתא הו |
[16]And the man in whom the evil spirit was, ran on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house, naked, and wounded. |
| [17]והדא אתידעת הות לכלהונ יהודיא וארמיא דעמרינ באפסוס ונפלת דחלתא על כלהונ ומתרמרמ הוא שׁמה דמרנ ישׁוע משׁיחא |
[17]And this was known to all the Jews and Grecians also, which dwelt at Ephesus, and fear came on them all, and the Name of the Lord Jesus was magnified. |
| [18]וסגיאא מנ אילינ דהימנו אתינ הוו ומשׁתעינ סכלותהונ ומודינ במדמ דעבדינ הוו |
[18]And many that believed, came and confessed, and showed their works. |
| [19]סגיאא דינ ואפ חרשׁא כנשׁו כתביהונ ואיתיו אוקדו אנונ קדמ כל אנשׁ וחשׁבו דמיהונ וסלק כספא רבותא חמשׁ |
[19]Many also of them which used curious arts, brought their books, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. |
| [20]והכנא בחילא רבא תקפא הות וסגיא הימנותה דאלהא |
[20]So the word of God grew mightily, and prevailed. |
| [21]כד דינ אשׁתלמ הלינ סמ פולוס ברעינה דנתכרכ בכלה מקדוניא ובאכאיא ונאזל לאורשׁלמ ואמר דמא דאזלת לתמנ ולא לי דאפ רהומי אחזא |
[21] Now when these things were accomplished, Paul purposed by the Spirit to pass through Macedonia and Achaia, and to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome. |
| [22]ושׁדר הוא תרינ אנשׁינ מנ הנונ דמשׁמשׁינ הוו לה למקדוניא לטימתאוס ולארסטוס הו דינ קוי זבנא באסיא |
[22]So sent he into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him, Timotheus and Erastus, but he remained in Asia for a season. |
| [23]הוא הוא דינ בהו זבנא שׁגושׁיא סגיאא על אורחה דאלהא |
[23]And the same time there arose no small trouble about that way. |
| [24]אית הוא דינ תמנ עבד סאמא חד דשׁמה הוא דמטריוס דעבד הוא נוסא דסאמא לארטמיס ומותר הוא לבני אומנותה יותרנא רבא |
[24]For a certain man named Demetrius a silversmith, which made silver temples of Diana, brought great gains unto the craftsmen: |
| [25]הנא כנשׁ אנונ לבני אומנותה כלהונ ולאילינ דפלחינ עמהונ ואמר להונ גברא ידעינ אנתונ דתאגורתנ כלה מנ הנא הי פולחנא |
[25]Whom he called together, with the workmen of like things, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our goods. |
| [26]אפ אנתונ שׁמעינ אנתונ וחזינ אנתונ לא הוא בלחוד לבני אפסוס אלא אפ לסוגאא דכלה אסיא אפיס הנא פולוס ואהפכ כד אמר דלו אלהא אנונ הנונ דבאידי בנינשׁא מתעבדינ |
[26]Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia this Paul hath persuaded, and turned away much people, saying, That they be not gods which are made with hands, |
| [27]ולו הדא צבותא בלחוד מתפרסיא ובטלא אלא אפ הו היכלא דארטמיס אלהתא רבתא מתחשׁב לה איכ לא מדמ ואפ הי אלהתא דכלה אסיא וכלהונ עממא סגדינ לה מתתשׁיטא |
[27]So that not only this thing is dangerous unto us, that the state should be reproved, but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be nothing esteemed, and that it would come to pass that her magnificence, which all Asia and the world worshippeth, should be destroyed. |
| [28]וכד שׁמעו הלינ אתמליו חמתא וקעינ הוו ואמרינ רבא הי ארטמיס דאפסיא |
[28]Now when they heard it, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians. |
| [29]ואשׁתגשׁת כלה מדינתא ורהטו אכחדא ואזלו לתאטרונ וחטפו אובלו עמהונ לגאיוס ולארסטרכוס גברא מקדוניא בני לויתה דפולוס |
[29]And the whole city was full of confusion, and they rushed into the common place with one assent, and caught Gaius, and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, and Paul's companions of his journey. |
| [30]ופולוס צבא הוא דנעול לתאטרונ וכלאוהי תלמידא |
[30]And when Paul would have entered in unto the people, the disciples suffered him not. |
| [31]ואפ רשׁא דאסיא מטל דרחמוהי הוו שׁדרו בעו מנה דלא נתל נפשׁה דנעול לתאטרונ |
[31]Certain also of the chief of Asia which were his friends, sent unto him, desiring him that he would not present himself in the common place. |
| [32]כנשׁא דינ דאית הוו בתאטרונ טב שׁגישׁינ הוו ואחרנא אחרניתא קעינ הוו סגיאא גיר מנהונ לא ידעינ הוו מטל מנא אתכנשׁו |
[32]Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was out of order, and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together. |
| [33]עמא דינ דיהודיא דאית הוו תמנ אקימו מנהונ לגברא יהודיא דשׁמה אלכסנדרוס וכד קמ אניפ אידה וצבא הוא דנפוק רוחא לעמא |
[33]And some of the company drew forth Alexander, the Jews thrusting him forwards. Alexander then beckoned with the hand, and would have excused the matter to the people. |
| [34]וכד ידעו דיהודיא הו קעו כלהונ בחד קלא איכ שׁעינ תרתינ דרבא הי ארטמיס דאפסיא |
[34]But when they knew that he was a Jew, there arose a shout almost for the space of two hours, of all men crying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians. |
| [35]ושׁלי אנונ רשׁא דמדינתא כד אמר גברא אפסיא מנו גיר מנ בני אנשׁא דלא ידע למדינתא דאפסיא דכומרתא הי דארטמיס רבתא ולצלמה דמנ שׁמיא נחת |
[35]Then the town clerk when he had stayed the people, said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is it that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image, which came down from Jupiter? |
| [36]מטל הכיל דלוקבל הדא אנשׁ לא משׁכח למאמר ולא לכונ דתהוונ שׁלינ ולא תעבדונ מדמ בסורהבא |
[36]Seeing then that no man can speak against these things, ye ought to be appeased, and to do nothing rashly. |
| [37]איתיתונ גיר לגברא הלינ כד לא היכלא חלצו ולא צחיו לאלהתנ |
[37]For ye have brought hither these men, which have neither commit sacrilege, neither do blaspheme your goddess. |
| [38]אנ דינ הנא דמטריוס ובני אומנותה אית להונ דינא עמ אנשׁ הא אנתופטוס במדינתא אומנא אנונ נקרבונ ונדונונ חד עמ חד |
[38]Wherefore, if Demetrius and the craftsmen which are with him, have a matter against any man, the law is open, and there are Deputies: let them accuse one another. |
| [39]ואנ הו דמדמ אחרינ בעינ אנתונ בדוכתא דיהיבא מנ נמוסא לכנושׁיא משׁתרא |
[39]But if ye inquire any thing concerning other matters it may be determined in a lawful assembly. |
| [40]מטל דאפ השׁא בקנדינוס קימינ חננ דנתרשׁא איכ שׁגושׁא דלא משׁכחינ חננ דנפוק רוחא על כנשׁא דיומא הנא דאתכנשׁנ בטלאית ואשׁתגשׁנ דלא עלתא |
[40]For we are even in jeopardy to be accused of this day's sedition, forasmuch as there is no cause, whereby we may give a reason of this concourse of people. |
| [41]וכד הלינ אמר שׁרא לכנשׁא |
[41]And when he had thus spoken, he let the assembly depart. |
