[1]AND in those days, when the number of disciples had increased, the Hel'len-ist converts murmured against the Hebrew converts because their widows were discriminated against in the daily distribution. |
[1]AND in those days the disciples being many, the Javnoyee disciples murmured against the Ebroyee because their widows were slighted in the daily ministration. |
[2]So the twelve apostles called the whole multitude of the converts and said to them, It is not good that we should leave the word of God and serve food. |
[2]And the twelve apostles called all the assembly of the disciples and said to them, It is not fit that we should leave the word of Aloha, and serve tables. |
[3]Wherefore, brethren, examine and select from among you seven men of good repute who are full of the Spirit of the LORD and of wisdom, so that we may appoint them to this task. |
[3]Look out therefore, brethren, and choose seven men from you who have testimony concerning them, and are full of the Spirit of the Lord and wisdom, and we will appoint them over this matter. |
[4]And we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word. |
[4]And we will be constant in prayer, and in the ministration of the word. |
[5]This suggestion pleased the whole people so they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, and Philip and Proch'orus and Ni-ca'nor and Ti'mon and Par'menas and Nic'o-las, a proselyte of An'ti-och. |
[5]And this saying was pleasing before all the people; and they chose Estephanos, a man who was full of faith and the Spirit of Holiness; and Philipos, and Prokoros, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmena, and Nikolos, a proselyte of Antiokia. |
[6]These men stood before the apostles: who, as they prayed, laid their hands on them. |
[6]And these they set before the apostles: and while praying they laid upon them the hand. |
[7]And the word of God spread; and the number of the converts in Jerusalem increased greatly; and many people of Jewish faith became converts. |
[7]And the word of Aloha increased, and the number of the disciples increased in Urishlem greatly: and much people of the Jihudoyee were obedient to the faith. |
[8]Now Stephen was full of grace and power and did great wonders and miracles among the people. |
[8]But Estephanos was filled with grace and power, and wrought signs and miracles among the people. |
[9]Then there arose certain men of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Lib'er-tines, and Cy-re'ni-ans and Al-exan'dri- ans and Ci-li'ci-ans and persons from Asia Minor, and they debated with Stephen. |
[9]And men arose from the congregation which was called Libertinu, Kyrainoyee, and Aleksandroyee, and from Cilicia, and from Asia, and disputed with Estephanos, |
[10]But they were unable to stand up against the wisdom and the spirit by which he spoke. |
[10]And were not able to stand against the wisdom and the spirit which spake in him. |
[11]Then they sent men and instructed them to say, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and against God. |
[11]Then they sent men and instructed them to say, We have heard him speak words of blasphemy against Musha and against Aloha. |
[12]And they stirred up the people and the elders and the scribes, and they rose up against him and seized him and brought him into the midst of the council. |
[12]And they stirred up the people and the elders and the sophree, and came and rose upon him, and carried him away and brought him into the midst of the assembly. |
[13]And they appointed false witnesses who said, This man does not cease to speak against the law and against this holy land: |
[13]AND witnesses of falsehood arose, and said, This man ceases not from speaking words contrary to the law and against this holy place. |
[14]For we have heard him say that Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this country and shall change the customs which Moses entrusted to you. |
[14]For we have heard him say that this Jeshu Natsroya shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Musha delivered unto us. |
[15]Then all who were seated at the council looked at him and saw that his face was like the face of an angel. |
[15]And all they who sat in the assembly looked upon him, and saw his face as the face of an angel. |
