| [1]Then said the chief Priest, Are these things so? |
[1]ושׁאלה רב כהנא דאנ הו דהלינ הכנא אנינ |
| [2]And he said, Ye men, brethren and fathers, hearken. The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, while he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran, |
[2]הו דינ אמר גברא אחינ ואבהתנ שׁמעו אלהא דתשׁבוחתא אתחזי לאבונ אברהמ כד איתוהי הוא בית-נהרינ עד לא נאתא נעמר בחרנ |
| [3]And said unto him, Come out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and come into the land, which I shall show thee. |
[3]ואמר הוא לה דפוק מנ ארעכ ומנ לות בני טוהמכ ותא לארעא אידא דאחויכ |
| [4]Then came he out of the land of the Chaldeans, and dwelt in Charran. And after that his father was dead, God brought him from thence into this land, wherein ye now dwell, |
[4]והידינ נפק אברהמ מנ ארעא דכלדיא ואתא עמר בחרנ ומנ תמנ כד מית אבוהי שׁניה אלהא לארעא הדא דבה עמרינ אנתונ יומנא |
| [5]And he gave him none inheritance in it, no, not the breadth of a foot: yet he promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child. |
[5]ולא יהב לה ירתותא בה אפ לא דורכתא דרגלא ואשׁתודי הוא דנתליה לה איכ דלמארתה לה ולזרעה כד לית הוא לה ברא |
| [6]But God spake thus, that his seed should be a sojourner in a strange land, and that they should keep it in bondage, and entreat it evil four hundred years. |
[6]ומלל הוא עמה אלהא כד אמר לה דנהוא זרעכ תותבא בארעא נוכריתא ונשׁעבדוניהי ונבאשׁונ לה ארבעמאא שׁנינ |
| [7]But the nation to whom they shall be in bondage, will I judge, saith God: and after that, they shall come forth and serve me in this place. |
[7]ולעמא דנפלחונ עבדותא אדוניהי אנא אמר אלהא ומנ בתר הלינ נפקונ ונפלחונ לי באתרא הנא |
| [8]He gave him also the covenant of circumcision: and so Abraham begat Isaac, and circumcised him the eight day: and Isaac begat Jacob, and Jacob the twelve Patriarchs. |
[8]ויהב לה דיתקא דגזורתא והידינ אולד לאיסחק וגזרה ביומא תמיניא ואיסחק אולד ליעקוב ויעקוב אולד לתרעסר אבהתנ |
| [9]And the Patriarchs moved with envy sold Joseph into Egypt: but God was with him, |
[9]והנונ אבהתנ טנו ביוספ וזבנוהי למצרינ ואלהא עמה הוא |
| [10]And delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favor and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh King of Egypt, who made him governor over Egypt, and over his whole house. |
[10]ופרקה הוא מנ כלהונ אולצוהי ויהב לה טיבותא וחכמתא קדמ פרעונ מלכא דמצרינ ואקימה רשׁא על מצרינ ועל כלה ביתה |
| [11]Then came there a famine over all the land of Egypt and Canaan, and great affliction, that our fathers found no sustenance. |
[11]והוא כפנא ואולצנא רבא בכלה מצרינ ובארעא דכנענ ולית הוא להונ למסבע לאבהתנ |
| [12]But when Jacob heard that there was corn in Egypt, he sent our fathers first. |
[12]וכד שׁמע יעקוב דאית עבורא במצרינ שׁדר הוא לאבהתנ לוקדמ |
| [13]And at the second time, Joseph was known of his brethren, and Joseph's kindred was made known unto Pharaoh. |
[13]וכד אזלו דתרתינ זבנינ אודע יוספ נפשׁה לאחוהי ואתידע לפרעונ טוהמה דיוספ |
| [14]Then sent Joseph and caused his father to be brought, and all his kindred, even threescore and fifteen souls. |
[14]ושׁדר הוא יוספ ואיתיה לאבוהי יעקוב ולכלה טוהמה והוינ הוו במנינא שׁבעינ וחמשׁ נפשׁנ |
| [15]So Jacob went down into Egypt, and he died, and our fathers, |
[15]ונחת יעקוב למצרינ ומית תמנ הו ואבהתנ |
| [16]And were removed into Sychem, and were put in the sepulcher, that Abraham had bought for money of the sons of Emor, son of Sychem. |
[16]ואשׁתני לשׁכימ ואתתסימ בקברא דזבנ הוא אברהמ בכספא מנ בני חמור |
| [17]But when the time of the promise drew near, which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt, |
[17]וכד מטי הוא זבנא דמדמ דאשׁתודי הוא במומתא אלהא לאברהמ סגי הוא עמא ותקפ במצרינ |
| [18]Till another King arose, which knew not Joseph. |
[18]עדמא דקמ מלכא אחרנא על מצרינ אינא דלא ידע הוא לה ליוספ |
| [19]The same dealt subtly with our kindred, and evil entreated our fathers, and made them to cast out their young children, that they should not remain alive. |
[19]ואצטנע על טוהמנ ואבאשׁ לאבהתנ ופקד דנהוונ משׁתדינ ילודיהונ דלא נחונ |
| [20]The same time was Moses born, and was acceptable unto God, which was nourished up in his father's house three months. |
[20]בה בזבנא הו אתילד מושׁא ורחימ הוא לאלהא ואתרבי ירחא תלתא בית אבוהי |
| [21]And when he was cast out, Pharaoh's daughter took him up, and nourished him for her own son. |
[21]וכד אשׁתדי מנ אמה אשׁכחתה ברת פרעונ ורביתה לה לברא |
| [22]And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds. |
[22]ואתרדי מושׁא בכלה חכמתא דמצריא ועתיד הוא במלוהי ואפ בעבדוהי |
| [23]Now when he was full forty year old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren, the children of Israel. |
[23]וכד הוא בר ארבעינ שׁנינ סלק הוא על לבה דנסעור לאחוהי בני יסריל |
| [24]And when he saw one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged his quarrel that had the harm done to him, and smote the Egyptian. |
[24]וחזא לחד מנ בני שׁרבתה דמתדבר בקטירא ותבעה ועבד לה דינא וקטלה למצריא הו דמסכל הוא בה |
| [25]For he supposed his brethren would have understand, that God by his hand should give them deliverance: but they understood it not. |
[25]וסבר דמסתכלינ אחוהי בני יסריל דאלהא באידה יהב להונ פורקנא ולא אסתכלו |
| [26]And the next day, he showed himself unto them as they strove, and would have set them at one again, saying, Sirs, ye are brethren: why do ye wrong one to another? |
[26]וליומא אחרנא אתחזי להונ כד נצינ הנונ חד עמ חד ומפיס הוא להונ דנשׁתינונ כד אמר גברא אחא אנתונ מטל מנא מסכלינ אנתונ חד בחד |
| [27]But he that did his neighbor wrong, thrust him away, saying, Who made thee a prince, and a judge over us? |
[27]הו דינ דמסכל הוא בחברה דחקה מנ לותה ואמר לה מנו אקימכ עלינ רשׁא ודינא |
| [28]Wilt thou kill me, as thou didst the Egyptian yesterday? |
[28]דלמא למקטלני בעא אנת איכ דקטלת אתמלי למצריא |
| [29]Then fled Moses at that saying, and was a stranger in the land of Median, where he begat two sons. |
[29]וערק מושׁא במלתא הדא והוא תותבא בארעא דמדינ והוו לה תרינ בנינ |
| [30]And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, an Angel of the Lord in a flame of fire, in a bush. |
[30]וכד מלי לה תמנ ארבעינ שׁנינ אתחזי לה במדברא דטור סיני מלאכה דמריא בנורא דיקדא בסניא |
| [31]And when Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to consider it, the voice of the Lord came unto him, saying, |
[31]וכד חזא מושׁא אתדמר בחזוא וכד אתקרב דנחזא אמר לה מריא בקלא |
| [32]I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold it. |
[32]אנא אנא אלהא דאבהיכ אלהה דאברהמ ודאיסחק ודיעקוב וכד רתית הוא מושׁא לא ממרח הוא דנחור בחזוא |
| [33]Then the Lord said to him, Put off thy shoes from thy feet: for the place where thou standest, is holy ground. |
[33]ואמר לה מריא שׁרי מסניכ מנ רגליכ ארעא גיר דקאמ אנת בה קדישׁא הי |
| [34]I have seen, I have seen the affliction of my people, which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to deliver them: and now come, and I will send thee into Egypt. |
[34]מחזא חזית אולצנה דעמי דבמצרינ ותנחתה שׁמעת ונחתת דאפרוק אנונ והשׁא תא אשׁדרכ למצרינ |
| [35]This Moses whom they forsook, saying, Who made thee a prince and a judge? the same God sent for a prince, and a deliverer by the hands of the Angel, which appeared to him in the bush. |
[35]להנא מושׁא דכפרו בה כד אמרינ דמנו אקימכ עלינ רשׁא ודינא לה להנא אלהא רשׁא ופרוקא שׁדר להונ באידי מלאכא הו דאתחזי לה בסניא |
| [36]He brought them out, doing wonders, and miracles in the land of Egypt, and in the Red Sea, and in the wilderness forty years. |
[36]הנו הו דאפק אנונ כד עבד אתותא ותדמרתא וגברותא בארעא דמצרינ ובימא-דסופ ובמדברא שׁנינ ארבעינ |
| [37]This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A Prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you, even of your brethren, like unto me: him shall ye hear. |
[37]הנו מושׁא הו דאמר לבני יסריל דנביא נקימ לכונ מריא אלהא מנ אחיכונ אכותי לה תשׁמעונ |
| [38]This is he that was in the Congregation, in the wilderness with the Angel, which spake to him in mount Sinai, and with our fathers, who received the lively oracles to give unto us. |
[38]הנו דהוא בכנושׁתא במדברא עמ מלאכא הו דמלל הוא עמה ועמ אבהתנ בטורא דסיני והויו דקבל מלא חיתא דלנ נתל |
| [39]To whom our fathers would not obey, but refused, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt, |
[39]ולא צבו למתדניו לה אבהתנ אלא שׁבקוהי ובלבותהונ הפכו למצרינ |
| [40]Saying unto Aaron, Make us gods that may go before us: for we know not what is become of this Moses that brought us out of the land of Egypt. |
[40]כד אמרינ לאהרונ עבד לנ אלהא דנאזלונ קדמינ מטל דהנא מושׁא דאפקנ מנ ארעא דמצרינ לא ידעינ חננ מנא הויהי |
| [41]And they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice unto the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands. |
[41]ועבדו להונ עגלא ביומתא הנונ ודבחו דבחא לפתכרא ומתבסמינ הוו בעבד אידיהונ |
| [42]Then God turned himself away, and gave them up to serve the host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the Prophets, O house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space of forty years in the wilderness? |
[42]והפכ אלהא ואשׁלמ אנונ דנהוונ פלחינ לחילותא דשׁמיא איכ דכתיב בכתבא דנביא למא ארבעינ שׁנינ במדברא נכסתא או דבחתא קרבתונ לי בני יסריל |
| [43]And ye took up the tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your god Remphan, figures, which ye made to worship them: therefore I will carry you away beyond Babylon. |
[43]אלא שׁקלתונ משׁכנה דמלכומ וכוכבה דאלהא דרפנ דמותא דעבדתונ דתהוונ סגדינ להינ אשׁניכונ להל מנ בבל |
| [44]Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as he had appointed, speaking unto Moses, that he should make it according to the fashion that he had seen. |
[44]הא משׁכנא דסהדותא דאבהתנ במדברא איתוהי הוא איכ מא דפקד הו דמלל עמ מושׁא למעבדה בדמותא דחויה |
| [45]Which tabernacle also our fathers received, and brought in with Jesus into the possession of the Gentiles, which God drove out before our fathers, unto the days of David: |
[45]ולה להנא משׁכנא אפ מעלו אעלוהי אבהתנ עמ ישׁוע לארעא דיהב להונ אלהא יורתנא מנ עממא הנונ דשׁדא מנ קדמיהונ ואתיבל עדמא ליומוהי דדויד |
| [46]Who found favor before God, and desired that he might find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob. |
[46]הו דאשׁכח רחמא קדמוהי דאלהא ושׁאל דנשׁכח משׁכנא לאלהה דיעקוב |
| [47]But Solomon built him an house. |
[47]שׁלימונ דינ בנא לה ביתא |
| [48]Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands, as saith the Prophet, |
[48]ומרימא לא שׁרא בעבד אידיא איכ דאמר נביא |
| [49]Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build for me, saith the Lord? or what place is it that I should rest in? |
[49]דשׁמיא כורסי וארעא כובשׁא דתחית רגלי אינו ביתא דתבנונ לי אמר מריא או אינו אתרא דניחתי |
| [50]Hath not mine hand made all these things? |
[50]לא הא אידא דילי עבדת הלינ כלהינ |
| [51]Ye stiffnecked and of uncircumcised hearts and ears, ye have always resisted the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do you. |
[51]או קשׁיי קדלא ודלא גזירינ בלבהונ ובמשׁמעתהונ אנתונ בכלזבנ לוקבל רוחא דקודשׁא קימינ אנתונ איכ אבהיכונ אפ אנתונ |
| [52]Which of the Prophets have not your fathers persecuted? And they have slain them, which showed before of the coming of that Just, of whom ye are now the betrayers and murderers, |
[52]לאינא גיר מנ נביא דלא רדפו וקטלו אבהיכונ לאילינ דקדמו בדקו על מאתיתה דזדיקא הו דאנתונ אשׁלמתונ וקטלתוניהי |
| [53]Which have received the Law by the ordinance of Angels, and have not kept it. |
[53]וקבלתונ נמוסא ביד פוקדנא דמלאכא ולא נטרתוניהי |
| [54]But when they heard these things, their hearts burst for anger, and they gnashed at him with their teeth. |
[54]וכד שׁמעו הוו הלינ אתמליו חמתא בנפשׁהונ ומחרקינ הוו שׁניהונ עלוהי |
| [55]But he being full of the Holy Ghost, looked steadfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God, |
[55]והו כד מלא הוא הימנותא ורוחא דקודשׁא חר בשׁמיא וחזא תשׁבוחתא דאלהא ולישׁוע כד קאמ מנ ימינא דאלהא |
| [56]And said, Behold, I see the heavens open, and the Son of man standing at the right hand of God. |
[56]ואמר הא חזא אנא שׁמיא כד פתיחינ ולברה דאנשׁא כד קאמ מנ ימינא דאלהא |
| [57]Then they gave a shout with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him all at once, |
[57]וקעו בקלא רמא וסכרו אדניהונ וגזמו עלוהי כלהונ |
| [58]And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, named Saul. |
[58]ואחדו אפקוהי לבר מנ מדינתא ורגמינ הוו לה ואילינ דאסהדו עלוהי סמו נחתיהונ לות רגלוהי דעלימא חד דמתקרא שׁאול |
| [59]And they stoned Steven, who called on God, and said, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. |
[59]ורגמינ הוו לה לאסטפנוס כד מצלא ואמר מרנ ישׁוע קבל רוחי |
| [60]And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had thus spoken, he slept. |
[60]וכד סמ בורכא קעא בקלא רמא ואמר מרנ לא תקימ להונ הדא חטיתא וכד הדא אמר שׁכב |
