[1]HearH8085[H8798] ye this wordH1697 which I take upH5375[H8802] against you, even a lamentationH7015, O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478. [1]Hear ye this word, which I lift up upon you, even a lamentation of the house of Israel.
[2]The virginH1330 of IsraelH3478 is fallenH5307[H8804]; she shall no moreH3254[H8686] riseH6965[H8800]: she is forsakenH5203[H8738] upon her landH127; there is none to raise her upH6965.[H8688] [2]The virgin Israel is fallen, and shall no more rise: she is left upon her land, and there is none to raise her up.
[3]For thus saithH559[H8804] the LordH136 GODH3069; The cityH5892 that went outH3318[H8802] by a thousandH505 shall leaveH7604[H8686] an hundredH3967, and that which went forthH3318[H8802] by an hundredH3967 shall leaveH7604[H8686] tenH6235, to the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478. [3]For thus saith the Lord God, The city which went out by a thousand, shall leave an hundred: and that which went forth by an hundred, shall leave ten to the house of Israel.
[4]For thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068 unto the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, SeekH1875[H8798] ye me, and ye shall liveH2421:[H8798] [4]For thus saith the Lord unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live.
[5]But seekH1875[H8799] not BethelH1008, nor enterH935[H8799] into GilgalH1537, and passH5674[H8799] not to BeershebaH884: for GilgalH1537 shall surelyH1540[H8800] go into captivityH1540[H8799], and BethelH1008 shall come to noughtH205. [5]But seek not Beth-el, nor enter into Gilgal, and go not to Beer-sheba: for Gilgal shall go into captivity, and Beth-el shall come to naught.
[6]SeekH1875[H8798] the LORDH3068, and ye shall liveH2421[H8798]; lest he break outH6743[H8799] like fireH784 in the houseH1004 of JosephH3130, and devourH398[H8804] it, and there be none to quenchH3518[H8764] it in BethelH1008. [6]Seek the Lord, and ye shall live, lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph and devour it, and there be none to quench it in Beth-el.
[7]Ye who turnH2015[H8802] judgmentH4941 to wormwoodH3939, and leave offH3240[H8689] righteousnessH6666 in the earthH776, [7]They turn judgment to wormwood, and leave off righteousness in the earth.
[8]Seek him that makethH6213[H8802] the seven starsH3598 and OrionH3685, and turnethH2015[H8802] the shadow of deathH6757 into the morningH1242, and maketh the dayH3117 darkH2821[H8689] with nightH3915: that callethH7121[H8802] for the watersH4325 of the seaH3220, and poureth them outH8210[H8799] upon the faceH6440 of the earthH776: The LORDH3068 is his nameH8034: [8]He maketh Pleiades, and Orion, and he turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and he maketh the day dark as night: he calleth the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the open earth: the Lord is his name.
[9]That strengthenethH1082[H8688] the spoiledH7701 against the strongH5794, so that the spoiledH7701 shall comeH935[H8799] against the fortressH4013. [9]He strengtheneth the destroyer against the mighty: and the destroyer shall come against the fortress.
[10]They hateH8130[H8804] him that rebukethH3198[H8688] in the gateH8179, and they abhorH8581[H8762] him that speakethH1696[H8802] uprightlyH8549. [10]They have hated him, that rebuked in the gate: and they abhorred him that speaketh uprightly.
[11]ForasmuchH3282 therefore as your treadingH1318[H8780] is upon the poorH1800, and ye takeH3947[H8799] from him burdensH4864 of wheatH1250: ye have builtH1129[H8804] housesH1004 of hewn stoneH1496, but ye shall not dwellH3427[H8799] in them; ye have plantedH5193[H8804] pleasantH2531 vineyardsH3754, but ye shall not drinkH8354[H8799] wine of themH3196. [11]For as much then as your treading is upon the poor, and ye take from him burdens of wheat, ye have built houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them: ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink wine of them.
[12]For I knowH3045[H8804] your manifoldH7227 transgressionsH6588 and your mightyH6099 sinsH2403: they afflictH6887[H8802] the justH6662, they takeH3947[H8802] a bribeH3724, and they turn asideH5186[H8689] the poorH34 in the gate from their rightH8179. [12]For I know your manifold transgressions, and your mighty sins: they afflict the just, they take rewards, and they oppress the poor in the gate.
[13]Therefore the prudentH7919[H8688] shall keep silenceH1826[H8799] in that timeH6256; for it is an evilH7451 timeH6256. [13]Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time, for it is an evil time.
[14]SeekH1875[H8798] goodH2896, and not evilH7451, that ye may liveH2421[H8799]: and so the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of hostsH6635, shall be with you, as ye have spokenH559.[H8804] [14]Seek good and not evil, that ye may live: and the Lord God of hosts shall be with you, as you have spoken.
[15]HateH8130[H8798] the evilH7451, and loveH157[H8798] the goodH2896, and establishH3322[H8685] judgmentH4941 in the gateH8179: it may be that the LORDH3068 GodH430 of hostsH6635 will be graciousH2603[H8799] unto the remnantH7611 of JosephH3130. [15]Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the Lord God of hosts will be merciful unto the remnant of Joseph.
[16]Therefore the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of hostsH6635, the LordH136, saithH559[H8804] thus; WailingH4553 shall be in all streetsH7339; and they shall sayH559[H8799] in all the highwaysH2351, AlasH1930! alasH1930! and they shall callH7121[H8804] the husbandmanH406 to mourningH60, and such as are skilfulH3045[H8802] of lamentationH5092 to wailingH4553. [16]Therefore the Lord God of hosts, the Lord saith thus, Mourning shall be in all streets: and they shall say in all the highways, Alas, alas: and they shall call the husbandman to lamentation, and such as can mourn, to mourning.
[17]And in all vineyardsH3754 shall be wailingH4553: for I will passH5674[H8799] throughH7130 thee, saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068. [17]And in all the vines shall be lamentation: for I will pass through thee, saith the Lord.
[18]WoeH1945 unto you that desireH183[H8693] the dayH3117 of the LORDH3068! to what endH4100 is it for you? the dayH3117 of the LORDH3068 is darknessH2822, and not lightH216. [18]Woe unto you, that desire the day of the Lord: what have you to do with it? The day of the Lord is darkness and not light.
[19]As if a manH376 did fleeH5127[H8799] fromH6440 a lionH738, and a bearH1677 metH6293[H8804] him; or wentH935[H8804] into the houseH1004, and leanedH5564[H8804] his handH3027 on the wallH7023, and a serpentH5175 bitH5391 himH8804. [19]As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him: or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.
[20]Shall not the dayH3117 of the LORDH3068 be darknessH2822, and not lightH216? even very darkH651, and no brightness in itH5051? [20]Shall not the day of the Lord be darkness, and not light? Even darkness and no light in it?
[21]I hateH8130[H8804], I despiseH3988[H8804] your feast daysH2282, and I will not smellH7306[H8686] in your solemn assembliesH6116. [21]I hate and abhor your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies.
[22]Though ye offerH5927[H8686] me burnt offeringsH5930 and your meat offeringsH4503, I will not acceptH7521[H8799] them: neither will I regardH5027[H8686] the peace offeringsH8002 of your fat beastsH4806. [22]Though ye offer me burnt offerings and meat offerings, I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts.
[23]Take thou awayH5493[H8685] from me the noiseH1995 of thy songsH7892; for I will not hearH8085[H8799] the melodyH2172 of thy violsH5035. [23]Take thou away from me the multitude of thy songs (for I will not hear the melody of thy viols)
[24]But let judgmentH4941 run downH1556[H8735] as watersH4325, and righteousnessH6666 as a mightyH386 streamH5158. [24]And let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty river.
[25]Have ye offeredH5066[H8689] unto me sacrificesH2077 and offeringsH4503 in the wildernessH4057 fortyH705 yearsH8141, O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478? [25]Have ye offered unto me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel?
[26]But ye have borneH5375[H8804] the tabernacleH5522 of your MolochH4428 and ChiunH3594 your imagesH6754, the starH3556 of your godH430, which ye madeH6213 to yourselvesH8804. [26]But you have born Siccuth your king, and Chiun your images, and the star of your gods, which ye made to yourselves.
[27]Therefore will I cause you to go into captivityH1540[H8689] beyondH1973 DamascusH1834, saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068, whose nameH8034 is The GodH430 of hostsH6635. [27]Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith the Lord, whose name is the God of hosts.
