Peshitta (Lamsa, 1933)
Pes(Lam)
[No book] [1]THUS has the LORD God showed me: behold, a plague of locusts coming up in the beginning of springing up of the latter growth; and, 1o, it was the latter growth after the king's mowings.
[No book] [2]And it came to pass when they had finished eating the grass of the land, then I said, O LORD God, forgive. Who shall raise up Jacob? For he is small in numbers.
[No book] [3]Then the LORD averted this calamity: it shall not be.
[No book] [4]Thus has the LORD God showed me: and, behold, the LORD God called the people to judge them by fire, and it devoured the great deep and did eat up a part.
[No book] [5]Then I said, O LORD God, forgive. Who shall raise up Jacob? For he is small in numbers.
[No book] [6]The LORD averted this calamity; this also shall not be.
[No book] [7]Thus he showed me: and, behold, the LORD was standing upon a wall made of adamant, and a plumbline was in his hand.
[No book] [8]And the LORD said to me, Amos, what do you see? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the LORD, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel; I will not again pass by them any more:
[No book] [9]And the absurd shrines of Israel shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword
[No book] [10]Then Amaziah the priest of Beth-el sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel, and the land cannot bear all his words.
[No book] [11]For thus Amos is saying: Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be carried away captive out of their own land.
[No book] [12]Also Amaziah said to Amos, O you seer, go, flee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there;
[No book] [13]But prophesy, not again any more at Beth-el; for it is the king's sanctuary and it is the house of the kingdom.
[No book] [14]Then Amos answered and said to Amaziah, I am not a prophet, neither a prophet's son; but I was a shepherd and a gatherer of wild figs;
[No book] [15]And the LORD took me as I followed the flock, and the LORD said to me, Go, prophesy against my people Israel.
[No book] [16]Now therefore hear the word of the LORD: You say, Do not prophesy against the house of Israel and do not teach against the house of Isaac.
[No book] [17]Therefore thus says the LORD: Your wife shall play the harlot in your own city, and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword, and your land shall be divided by line; and you yourself shall die in a polluted land; and Israel shall surely be carried away captive from his land
