| [1]In the third year of the reign of Joakim king of Juda, came Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon to Jerusalem, and besieged it. |
[1]ܒܲܫܢܲܬ̣ ܬܠܵܬ̣ ܕܡܲܠܟ̇ܘܼܬܹܗ ܕܝܘܿܝܵܩܝܼܡ ܡܲܠܟܵܐ ܕܲܝܗܘܼܕܼܵܐ: ܐܸܬ̣ܵܐ ܢܒ̣ܘܼܟܲܕܼܢܵܨܲܪ ܡܲܠܟܵܐ ܕܒ̣ܵܒܲܠ ܠܐܘܿܪܸܫܠܸܡ ܘܚܲܕܼܪܵܗ̇. |
| [2]And the Lord gave into his hand Joakim king of Juda, and part of the vessels of the house of God: and he brought them into the land of Sennaar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure-house of his god. |
[2]ܘܐܲܫ̱ܠ̣ܡܵܗ̇ ܡܵܪܝܵܐ ܒܐܝܼܕܹܗ: ܘܠܝܘܿܝܵܩܝܼܡ ܡܲܠܟܵܐ ܕܲܝܗܘܼܕܼܵܐ: ܘܡ̣ܢ ܡܵܐܢܹ̈ܐ ܕܒܲܝܬܹ̇ܗ ܕܡܵܪܝܵܐ: ܐܵܘܒܸ̇ܠ ܐܸܢܘܿܢ ܠܐܲܪܥܵܐ ܕܣܸܢܥܵܪ ܠܒܹܝܬ̣ ܦܬܲܟ̣ܪܹܗ: ܘܡܵܐܢܹ̈ܐ ܐܲܥܸܠ̣ ܠܒܹܝܬ̣ ܓܲܙܵܐ ܕܲܦܬܲܟ̣ܪܹܗ. |
| [3]And the king told Asphanez his chief eunuch, to bring in some of the captive children of Israel, and of the seed of the kingdom, and of the princes; |
[3]ܘܐܸܡ̣ܲܪ ܡܲܠܟܵܐ ܠܐܸܫܦܵܙ ܪܲܒ̇ ܡܗܲܝܡܢܹ̈ܐ: ܕܢܲܝܬܸ̇ܐ ܡ̣ܢ ܒܢܲܝ̈ ܝܑܼܣܪܵܝܹܠ: ܡ̣ܢ ܙܪܲܥ ܡܲܠ̈ܟ̇ܘܼܬ̣ܵܐ: ܘܡ̣ܢ ܦܲܪ̈ܬ̇ܘܵܝܹܐ. |
| [4]young men in whom was no blemish, and beautiful in appearance, and skilled in all wisdom, and possessing knowledge, and acquainted with prudence, and who had ability to stand in the house before the king, and the king gave commandment to teach them the learning and language of the Chaldeans. |
[4]ܛܠܵܝܹ̈ܐ ܕܡܘܼܡܵܐ ܠܲܝܬ̇ ܒܗܘܿܢ: ܐܲܝܠܹܝܢ ܕܫܲܦܝܼܪܝܼܢ ܒܚܸܙ̱ܘܗܘܿܢ: ܘܣܲܟ̇ܘܼܠܬ̣ܵܢܝܼܢ ܒܚܸܟ̣ܡ̱ܬ̣ܵܐ: ܘܝܵܕܲܥܬ̣ܵܐ: ܘܡܸܬ̣ܒܲܝܢܲܝ̈ ܒܡܲܕ̇ܥܵܐ: ܐܲܝܠܹܝܢ ܕܲܡܨܹܝܢ ܒܚܲܝܠܵܐ ܠܲܡܩܵܡ ܒܗܲܝܟ̇ܠܵܐ ܕܡܲܠܟܵܐ ܠܲܡܫܲܡܵܫܘܼܬܹܗ: ܘܲܠܡܲܠܵܦܘܼ ܐܸܢܘܿܢ ܣܸܦܪܵܐ: ܘܠܸܫܵܢܵܐ ܕܟܲܠܕܼܵܝܹ̈ܐ. |
| [5]And the king appointed them a daily portion from the king's table, and from the wine which he drank; and gave orders to nourish them three years, and that afterwards they should stand before the king. |
[5]ܘܐܲܩܝܼܡ ܠܗܘܿܢ ܡܲܠܟܵܐ ܩܝܵܡܬܵܐ ܕܝܵܘܡܵܐ. ܡ̣ܢ ܦܲܛܒ̣ܵܓ̣ܵܐ ܕܡܲܠܟܵܐ: ܘܡ̣ܢ ܚܲܡܪܵܐ ܕܫܵܬܹ̇ܐ: ܘܠܲܡܪܲܒܵܝܘܼ ܐܸܢܘܿܢ ܫܢܝܼ̈ܢ ܬܠܵܬ̣: ܘܗܵܝܕܹ̇ܝܢ ܢܩܘܼܡܘܿܢ ܩܕܼܵܡ ܡܲܠܟܵܐ. |
| [6]Now these were among them of the children of Juda, Daniel, and Ananias, and Azarias, and Misael. |
[6]ܘܲܗܘ̤ܵܘ ܒܗܘܿܢ ܡ̣ܢ ܒܢܲܝ̈ ܝܑܼܗܘܼܕܼܵܐ: ܕܵܢܝܼܐܹܝܠ: ܘܚܲܢܲܢܝܵܐ: ܘܡܝܼܫܵܐܹܝܠ: ܘܥܲܙܲܪܝܵܐ. |
| [7]And the chief of the eunuchs gave them names: to Daniel, Baltasar; and to Ananias, Sedrach; and to Misael, Misach; and to Azarias, Abdenago. |
[7]ܘܫܲܡܝܼ ܠܗܘܿܢ ܪܲܒ̇ ܡܗܲܝܡܢܹ̈ܐ ܫܡܵܗܹ̈ܐ: ܩ̣ܪܵܐ ܠܕܵܢܝܼܐܹܝܠ ܒܹܠܛܫܵܨܲܪ: ܘܲܠܚܲܢܲܢܝܵܐ ܫܸܕܼܪܵܟ: ܘܲܠܡܝܼܫܵܐܹܝܠ ܡܝܼܫܵܟ: ܘܲܠܥܲܙܲܪܝܵܐ ܥܒܸܕܼܢܵܓ̣ܘܿ. |
| [8]And Daniel purposed in his heart, that he would not defile himself with the king's table, nor with the wine of his drink: and he intreated the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. |
[8]ܘܣܵܡ̣ ܕܵܢܝܼܐܹܝܠ ܒܪܸܥܝܵܢܹܗ: ܕܠܵܐ ܢܹܐܟ̣ܘܿܠ ܡ̣ܢ ܦܲܛܒ̣ܵܓ̣ܵܐ ܕܡܲܠܟܵܐ: ܘܠܵܐ ܢܸܫܬܹ̇ܐ ܡ̣ܢ ܚܲܡܪܵܐ ܕܫܵܬܹ̇ܐ: ܘܲܒ̣ܥ̣ܵܐ ܡ̣ܢ ܪܲܒ̇ ܡܗܲܝܡܢܹ̈ܐ ܕܠܵܐ ܢܵܘܟ̇ܠܝܼܘܗܝ. |
| [9]Now God had brought Daniel into favour and compassion with the chief of the eunuchs. |
[9]ܘܝܲܗ̄ܒ̣ ܐܲܠܵܗܵܐ ܛܲܝܒ̇ܘܼܬ̣ܵܐ ܘܪ̈ܲܚܡܹܐ ܠܕܼܵܐܢܝܼܐܹܝܠ ܩܕܼܵܡ ܪܲܒ̇ ܡܗܲܝܡ̈ܢܹܐ. |
| [10]And the chief of the eunuchs said to Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who has appointed your meat and your drink, lest he see your countenances gloomy in comparison of the young men your equals; also shall ye endanger my head to the king. |
[10]ܘܐܸܡܲܪ ܪܲܒ̇ ܡܗܲܝܡܢܹ̈ܐ ܠܕܼܵܢܝܼܐܹܝܠ: ܕܵܚܹ̇ܠ ܐ̄ܢܵܐ ܡ̣ܢ ܡܵܪܝ ܡܲܠܟܵܐ: ܕܦܲܩܸܕܼ ܥܲܠ ܡܹܐܟ̣ܘܼܠܬ̇ܟ̣ܘܿܢ ܘܥܲܠ ܡܲܫܬܲܝܟ̇ܘܿܢ: ܕܲܠܡܵܐ ܢܸܚܙܹܐ ܐܲܦܲܝ̈ܟ̇ܘܿܢ ܡܟܲܐܪ̈ܵܢ ܡ̣ܢ ܕܲܛܠܵܝܹ̈ܐ ܒܢܲܝ̈ ܫܸܢܟ̣ܘܿܢ: ܘܢܸܦܣܘܿܩ ܪܹܫܝ ܡܲܠܟܵܐ. |
| [11]And Daniel said to Amelsad, whom the chief of the eunuchs had appointed over Daniel, Ananias, Misael, and Azarias. |
[11]ܝܐ:ܘܐܸܡܲܪ ܕܵܢܝܼܐܹܝܠ ܠܲܡܢܸܨܲܪ: ܕܐܲܫ̱ܠܛܹܗ ܪܲܒ̇ ܡܗܲܝܡܢܹ̈ܐ ܥܲܠ ܕܵܢܝܼܐܹܝܠ: ܘܥܲܠ ܚܲܢܲܢܝܵܐ: ܘܥܲܠ ܡܝܼܫܵܐܝܼܠ: ܘܥܲܠ ܥܲܙܲܪܝܵܐ. |
| [12]Prove now thy servants ten days; and let them give us pulse, and let us eat, and let us drink water: |
[12]ܢܲܣܵܐ ܐܸܢܘܿܢ ܠܥܲܒ̣ܕܲܝ̈ܟ ܝܵܘܡܝܼ̈ܢ ܥܸܣܪܵܐ: ܘܢܸܬ̇ܠܘܼܢ ܠܲܢ ܙܲܪ̈ܥܘܿܢܹܐ ܠܡܹܐܟܲܠ: ܘܡܲـ̈ـܝܵܐ ܠܡܸܫܬܵܐ. |
| [13]And let our countenances be seen by thee, and the countenances of the children that eat at the king's table; and deal with thy servants according as thou shalt see. |
[13]ܘܬܸܚܙܹܐ ܫܝܼܘܼܬܲܢ ܘܫܝܼܘܼܬ̣ܵܐ ܕܲܛܠܵܝܹ̈ܐ ܕܐܵܟ̣ܠܝܼܢ ܡ̣ܢ ܦܲܛܒ̣ܵܓ̣ܵܐ ܕܡܲܠܟܵܐ: ܘܐܲܝܟ ܕܚܵܙܹ̇ܐ ܐܲܢ̄ܬ̇ ܗܵܟܲܢܵܐ ܥܒܸܕܼ ܥܲܡ ܥܲܒ̣ܕܲܝ̈ܟ. |
| [14]And he hearkened to them, and proved them ten days. |
[14]ܘܐܸܫܬ̇ܡܲܥ ܡܸܠܲܬ̣ܗܘܿܢ ܗܵܕܹ݂ܐ: ܘܢܲܣܝܼ ܐܸܢܘܿܢ ܝܵܘܡܝܼ̈ܢ ܥܸܣܪܵܐ. |
| [15]And at the end of the ten days their countenances appeared fairer and stouter in flesh, than the children that fed at the king's table. |
[15]ܘܡ̣ܢ ܒܵܬܲܪ ܥܸܣܪܵܐ ܝܵܘܡܝܼ̈ܢ: ܚܙ̣ܵܐ ܐܲܦܲܝ̈ܗܘܿܢ ܫܲܦܝܼܪ̈ܵܢ ܘܫܲܡܝܼܢ ܒܸܣ̱ܪܗܘܿܢ: ܛܵܒ̣ ܡ̣ܢ ܕܲܛܠܵܝܹ̈ܐ ܟܠܗܘܿܢ ܕܐܵܟ̣ܠܝܼܢ ܡ̣ܢ ܦܲܛܒ̣ܵܓ̣ܵܐ ܕܡܲܠܟܵܐ. |
| [16]So Amelsad took away their supper and the wine of their drink, and gave them pulse. |
[16]ܘܲܡܢܸܨܲܪ ܢܵܣܹ̇ܒ̣ ܗ̄ܘܼܵܐ ܠܹܗ ܫܩܵܠܗܘܿܢ: ܘܚܲܡܪܵܐ ܕܡܲܫܬܲܝܗܘܿܢ: ܘܝܵܗܹ̇ܒ̣ ܗ̄ܘܼܵܐ ܠܗܘܿܢ ܙܲܪ̈ܥܘܿܢܹܐ ܠܡܹܐܟܲܠ: ܘܡܲـ̈ـܝܵܐ ܠܡܸܫܬܵܐ. |
| [17]And as for these four children, God gave them understanding and prudence in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams. |
[17]ܘܠܲܛܠܵܝܹ̈ܐ ܗܵܠܹܝܢ ܐܲܪ̈ܒ̇ܥܵܬܲܝܗܘܿܢ: ܝܲܗ̄ܒ̣ ܠܗܘܿܢ ܐܲܠܵܗܵܐ ܝܑܼܕܲܥܬ̣ܵܐ ܘܣܘܼܟܵܠܵܐ ܒܟ̣ܠ ܣܦܲܪ ܘܚܸܟ̣ܡܵܐ: ܘܕܼܵܢܝܼܐܹܝܠ ܡܸܬ̣ܒܲܝܲܢ ܗ̄ܘܼܵܐ ܒܟ̣ܠ ܚܸܙܘܝܼ̈ܢ ܘܚܸܠܡܝܼ̈ܢ. |
| [18]And at the end of the days, after which the king had given orders to bring them in, then the chief of the eunuchs brought them in before Nabuchodonosor. |
[18]ܘܡ̣ܢ ܒܵܬܲܪ ܕܲܫܠܸܡ̣ܘ ܝܵܘ̈ܡܵܬ̣ܵܐ ܕܲܦ̣ܩܲܕܼ ܡܲܠܟܵܐ: ܐܲܝܬ̇ܝ ܐܸܢܘܿܢ ܪܲܒ̇ ܡܗܲܝܡܢܹ̈ܐ ܩܕܼܵܡ ܢܒ̣ܘܼܟܲܕܼܢܵܨܲܪ ܡܲܠܟܵܐ. |
| [19]And the king spoke with them; and there were not found out of them all any like Daniel, and Ananias and Misael, and Azarias: and they stood before the king. |
[19]ܘܡܲܠܸܠ̣ ܥܲܡܗܘܿܢ ܡܲܠܟܵܐ: ܘܠܵܐ ܐܸܫ̣ܟܲܚ ܒܟ̣ܠܗܘܿܢ ܐܲܝܟ ܕܵܢܝܼܐܹܝܠ: ܘܚܲܢܲܢܝܵܐ: ܘܡܝܼܫܵܐܝܹܠ: ܘܥܲܙ̇ܪܝܵܐ: ܘܩܵܡ̣ܘ ܩܕܼܵܡ ܡܲܠܟܵܐ. |
| [20]And in every matter of wisdom and knowledge wherein the king questioned them, he found them ten times wiser than all the enchanters and sorcerers that were in all his kingdom. |
[20]ܘܟ̣ܠ ܡܸܠܵܐ ܕܚܸܟ̣ܡ̱ܬ̣ܵܐ ܘܲܕܼܣܘܼܟܵܠܵܐ ܫܲܐܸܠ̣ ܐܸܢܘܿܢ ܡܲܠܟܵܐ: ܐܸܫܟܲܚ ܐܸܢܘܿܢ ܝܲܬ̇ܝܼܪܝܼܢ ܥܣܲܪ ܡ̈ܢܵܘܵܢ: ܥܲܠ ܟܠ ܚܲܪ̈ܵܫܹܐ ܘܐܵܫܘܿܦܹ̈ܐ ܕܐܝܼܬ̣ ܒܡܲܠܟ̇ܘܼܬܹܗ. |
| [21]And Daniel continued till the first year of king Cyrus. |
[21]ܘܲܗܘ̤ܵܐ ܕܵܢܝܼܐܹܝܠ ܥܕܲܡܵܐ ܠܲܫܢܲܬ̣ ܚܕܼܵܐ ܕܟ̣ܘܿܪܹܫ ܡܲܠܟܵܐ. |
