[1]Also I in the firstH259 yearH8141 of DariusH1867 the MedeH4075, even I, stoodH5977 to confirmH2388[H8688] and to strengthen himH4581. |
[1]Also I, in the first year of Darius of the Medes, even I stood to encourage and to strengthen him. |
[2]And now will I shewH5046[H8686] thee the truthH571. Behold, there shall stand upH5975[H8802] yet threeH7969 kingsH4428 in PersiaH6539; and the fourthH7243 shall be farH6239 richerH6238[H8686] than they allH1419: and by his strengthH2393 through his richesH6239 he shall stir upH5782[H8686] all against the realmH4438 of GreciaH3120. |
[2]And now will I show thee the truth, Behold, there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia, and the fourth shall be far richer than they all: and by his strength, and by his riches he shall stir up all against the realm of Grecia. |
[3]And a mightyH1368 kingH4428 shall stand upH5975[H8804], that shall ruleH4910[H8804] with greatH7227 dominionH4474, and doH6213[H8804] according to his willH7522. |
[3]But a mighty king shall stand up, that shall rule with great dominion, and do according to his pleasure. |
[4]And when he shall stand upH5975[H8800], his kingdomH4438 shall be brokenH7665[H8735], and shall be dividedH2673[H8735] toward the fourH702 windsH7307 of heavenH8064; and not to his posterityH319, nor according to his dominionH4915 which he ruledH4910[H8804]: for his kingdomH4438 shall be plucked upH5428[H8735], even for others beside thoseH312. |
[4]And when he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be broken, and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven: and not to his posterity, nor according to his dominion, which he ruled: for his kingdom shall be plucked up, even to be for others besides those. |
[5]And the kingH4428 of the southH5045 shall be strongH2388[H8799], and one of his princesH8269; and he shall be strongH2388[H8799] above him, and have dominionH4910[H8804]; his dominionH4475 shall be a greatH7227 dominionH4474. |
[5]And the king of the south shall be mighty, and one of his princes, and shall prevail against him, and bear rule: his dominion shall be a great dominion. |
[6]And in the endH7093 of yearsH8141 they shall join themselves togetherH2266[H8691]; for the king'sH4428 daughterH1323 of the southH5045 shall comeH935[H8799] to the kingH4428 of the northH6828 to makeH6213[H8800] an agreementH4339: but she shall not retainH6113[H8799] the powerH3581 of the armH2220; neither shall he standH5975[H8799], nor his armH2220: but she shall be given upH5414[H8735], and they that broughtH935[H8688] her, and he that begatH3205[H8802] her, and he that strengthenedH2388[H8688] her in these timesH6256. |
[6]And in the end of years they shall be joined together: for the king's daughter of the south shall come to the king of the north to make an agreement, but she shall not retain the power of the arm, neither shall he continue, nor his arm: but she shall be delivered to death, and they that brought her, and he that begat her, and he that comforted her in these times. |
[7]But out of a branchH5342 of her rootsH8328 shall one stand upH5975[H8804] in his estateH3653, which shall comeH935[H8799] with an armyH2428, and shall enterH935[H8799] into the fortressH4581 of the kingH4428 of the northH6828, and shall dealH6213[H8804] against them, and shall prevailH2388:[H8689] |
[7]But out of the bud of her roots shall one stand up in his stead, which shall come with an army, and shall enter into the fortress of the king of the north, and do with them as he list, and shall prevail, |
[8]And shall also carryH935[H8686] captivesH7628 into EgyptH4714 their godsH430, with their princesH5257, and with their preciousH2532 vesselsH3627 of silverH3701 and of goldH2091; and he shall continueH5975[H8799] more yearsH8141 than the kingH4428 of the northH6828. |
[8]And shall also carry captives into Egypt their gods with their molten images, and with their precious vessels of silver and of gold, and he shall continue more years than the king of the north. |
[9]So the kingH4428 of the southH5045 shall comeH935[H8804] into his kingdomH4438, and shall returnH7725[H8804] into his own landH127. |
[9]So the king of the south shall come into his kingdom, and shall return into his own land. |
[10]But his sonsH1121 shall be stirred upH1624[H8691], and shall assembleH622[H8804] a multitudeH1995 of greatH7227 forcesH2428: and one shall certainlyH935[H8800] comeH935[H8804], and overflowH7857[H8804], and pass throughH5674[H8804]: then shall he returnH7725[H8799], and be stirred upH1624[H8691], even to his fortressH4581. |
[10]Wherefore his sons shall be stirred up, and shall assemble a mighty great army: and one shall come, and overflow, and pass through: then shall he return, and be stirred up at his fortress. |
[11]And the kingH4428 of the southH5045 shall be moved with cholerH4843[H8698], and shall come forthH3318[H8804] and fightH3898[H8738] with him, even with the kingH4428 of the northH6828: and he shall set forthH5975[H8689] a greatH7227 multitudeH1995; but the multitudeH1995 shall be givenH5414[H8738] into his handH3027. |
[11]And the king of the south shall be angry, and shall come forth, and fight with him, even with the king of the north: for he shall set forth a great multitude, and the multitude shall be given into his hand. |
[12]And when he hath taken awayH5375[H8738] the multitudeH1995, his heartH3824 shall be lifted upH7311[H8804][H8675][H7311][H8799]; and he shall cast downH5307[H8689] many ten thousandsH7239: but he shall not be strengthenedH5810 by itH8799. |
[12]Then the multitude shall be proud, and their heart shall be lifted up: for he shall cast down thousands: but he shall not still prevail. |
[13]For the kingH4428 of the northH6828 shall returnH7725[H8804], and shall set forthH5975[H8689] a multitudeH1995 greaterH7227 than the formerH7223, and shall certainlyH935[H8800] comeH935[H8799] afterH7093 certainH6256 yearsH8141 with a greatH1419 armyH2428 and with muchH7227 richesH7399. |
[13]For the king of the north shall return, and shall set forth a greater multitude than afore, and shall come forth (after certain years) with a mighty army, and great riches. |
[14]And in those timesH6256 there shall manyH7227 stand upH5975[H8799] against the kingH4428 of the southH5045: also the robbersH1121[H6530] of thy peopleH5971 shall exaltH5375[H8691] themselves to establishH5975[H8687] the visionH2377; but they shall fallH3782.[H8738] |
[14]And at the same time there shall many stand up against the king of the south: also the rebellious children of thy people shall exalt themselves to establish the vision, but they shall fall. |
[15]So the kingH4428 of the northH6828 shall comeH935[H8799], and cast upH8210[H8799] a mountH5550, and takeH3920[H8804] the most fencedH4013 citiesH5892: and the armsH2220 of the southH5045 shall not withstandH5975[H8799], neither his chosenH4005 peopleH5971, neither shall there be any strengthH3581 to withstandH5975.[H8800] |
[15]So the king of the north shall come, and cast up a mount, and take the strong city: and the arms of the south shall not resist, neither his chosen people, neither shall there be any strength to withstand. |
[16]But he that comethH935[H8802] against him shall doH6213[H8799] according to his own willH7522, and none shall standH5975[H8802] beforeH6440 him: and he shall standH5975[H8799] in the gloriousH6643 landH776, which by his handH3027 shall be consumedH3617. |
[16]But he that shall come shall do unto him as he list, and none shall stand against him: and he shall stand in the pleasant land, which by his hand shall be consumed. |
[17]He shall also setH7760[H8799] his faceH6440 to enterH935[H8800] with the strengthH8633 of his whole kingdomH4438, and upright onesH3477 with him; thus shall he doH6213[H8804]: and he shall giveH5414[H8799] him the daughterH1323 of womenH802, corruptingH7843[H8687] her: but she shall not standH5975 on his side, neither be for himH8799. |
[17]Again he shall set his face to enter with the power of his whole kingdom, and his confederates with him: thus shall he do, and he shall give him the daughter of women, to destroy her: but she shall not stand on his side, neither be for him. |
[18]After this shall he turnH7760[H8799][H8675][H7725][H8686] his faceH6440 unto the islesH339, and shall takeH3920[H8804] manyH7227: but a princeH7101 for his own behalf shall cause the reproachH2781 offered by him to ceaseH7673[H8689]; withoutH1115 his own reproachH2781 he shall cause it to turnH7725 upon himH8686. |
[18]After this shall he turn his face unto the isles, and shall take many, but a prince shall cause his shame to light upon him, beside that he shall cause his own shame to turn upon himself. |
[19]Then he shall turnH7725[H8686] his faceH6440 toward the fortH4581 of his own landH776: but he shall stumbleH3782[H8738] and fallH5307[H8804], and not be foundH4672.[H8735] |
[19]For he shall turn his face toward the forts of his own land: but he shall be overthrown and fall, and be no more found. |
[20]Then shall stand upH5975[H8804] in his estateH3653 a raiserH5674[H8688] of taxesH5065[H8802] in the gloryH1925 of the kingdomH4438: but within fewH259 daysH3117 he shall be destroyedH7665[H8735], neither in angerH639, nor in battleH4421. |
[20]Then shall stand up in his place in the glory of the kingdom, one that shall raise taxes: but after few days he shall be destroyed, neither in wrath, nor in battle. |
[21]And in his estateH3653 shall stand upH5975[H8804] a vile personH959[H8737], to whom they shall not giveH5414[H8804] the honourH1935 of the kingdomH4438: but he shall comeH935[H8804] in peaceablyH7962, and obtainH2388[H8689] the kingdomH4438 by flatteriesH2519. |
[21]And in his place shall stand up a vile person, to whom they shall not give the honor of the kingdom: but he shall come in peaceably, and obtain the kingdom by flatteries. |
[22]And with the armsH2220 of a floodH7858 shall they be overflownH7857[H8735] from beforeH6440 him, and shall be brokenH7665[H8735]; yea, also the princeH5057 of the covenantH1285. |
[22]And the arms shall be overthrown with a flood before him, and shall be broken: and also the prince of the covenant. |
[23]And after the leagueH2266[H8692] made with him he shall workH6213[H8799] deceitfullyH4820: for he shall come upH5927[H8804], and shall become strongH6105[H8804] with a smallH4592 peopleH1471. |
[23]And after the league made with him, he shall work deceitfully: for he shall come up, and overcome with a small people. |
[24]He shall enterH935[H8799] peaceablyH7962 even upon the fattest placesH4924 of the provinceH4082; and he shall doH6213[H8804] that which his fathersH1 have not doneH6213[H8804], nor his fathers'H1 fathersH1; he shall scatterH967[H8799] among them the preyH961, and spoilH7998, and richesH7399: yea, and he shall forecastH2803[H8762] his devicesH4284 against the strong holdsH4013, even for a timeH6256. |
[24]He shall enter into the quiet and plentiful province, and he shall do that which his fathers have not done, nor his fathers' fathers: he shall divide among them the prey and the spoil, and the substance, yea, and he shall forecast his devises against the strong holds, even for a time. |
[25]And he shall stir upH5782[H8686] his powerH3581 and his courageH3824 against the kingH4428 of the southH5045 with a greatH1419 armyH2428; and the kingH4428 of the southH5045 shall be stirred upH1624[H8691] to battleH4421 with a veryH3966 greatH1419 and mightyH6099 armyH2428; but he shall not standH5975[H8799]: for they shall forecastH2803[H8799] devices against himH4284. |
[25]Also he shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the south with a great army, and the king of the south shall be stirred up to battle with a very great and mighty army: but he shall not stand: for they shall forecast and practice against him. |
[26]Yea, they that feedH398[H8802] of the portion of his meatH6598 shall destroyH7665[H8799] him, and his armyH2428 shall overflowH7857[H8799]: and manyH7227 shall fallH5307[H8804] down slainH2491. |
[26]Yea, they that feed of the portion of his meat, shall destroy him: and his army shall overflow: and many shall fall, and be slain. |
[27]And bothH8147 these kings'H4428 heartsH3824 shall be to do mischiefH4827[H8688][H7451], and they shall speakH1696[H8762] liesH3577 at oneH259 tableH7979; but it shall not prosperH6743[H8799]: for yet the endH7093 shall be at the time appointedH4150. |
[27]And both these king's hearts shall be to do mischief, and they shall talk of deceit at one table: but it shall not avail: for yet the end shall be at the time appointed. |
[28]Then shall he returnH7725[H8804] into his landH776 with greatH1419 richesH7399; and his heartH3824 shall be against the holyH6944 covenantH1285; and he shall doH6213[H8804] exploits, and returnH7725[H8799] to his own landH776. |
[28]Then shall he return into his land with great substance: for his heart shall be against the holy covenant: so shall he do and return to his own land. |
[29]At the time appointedH4150 he shall returnH7725[H8799], and comeH935[H8804] toward the southH5045; but it shall not be as the formerH7223, or as the latterH314. |
[29]At the time appointed he shall return, and come toward the south: but the last shall not be as the first. |
[30]For the shipsH6716 of ChittimH3794 shall comeH935[H8804] against him: therefore he shall be grievedH3512[H8738], and returnH7725[H8804], and have indignationH2194[H8804] against the holyH6944 covenantH1285: so shall he doH6213[H8804]; he shall even returnH7725[H8804], and have intelligenceH995[H8799] with them that forsakeH5800[H8802] the holyH6944 covenantH1285. |
[30]For the ships of Chittim shall come against him: therefore he shall be sorry and return, and fret against the holy covenant: so shall he do, he shall even return and have intelligence with them that forsake the holy covenant. |
[31]And armsH2220 shall standH5975[H8799] on his part, and they shall polluteH2490[H8765] the sanctuaryH4720 of strengthH4581, and shall take awayH5493[H8689] the dailyH8548 sacrifice, and they shall placeH5414[H8804] the abominationH8251 that maketh desolateH8074.[H8789] |
[31]And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall set up the abominable desolation. |
[32]And such as do wickedlyH7561[H8688] against the covenantH1285 shall he corruptH2610[H8686] by flatteriesH2514: but the peopleH5971 that do knowH3045[H8802] their GodH430 shall be strongH2388[H8686], and doH6213 exploitsH8804. |
[32]And such as wickedly break the covenant, shall he cause to sin by flattery: but the people that do know their God, shall prevail and prosper. |
[33]And they that understandH7919[H8688] among the peopleH5971 shall instructH995[H8799] manyH7227: yet they shall fallH3782[H8738] by the swordH2719, and by flameH3852, by captivityH7628, and by spoilH961, many daysH3117. |
[33]And they that understand among the people shall instruct many: yet they shall fall by sword, and by flame, by captivity and by spoil many days. |
[34]Now when they shall fallH3782[H8736], they shall be holpenH5826[H8735] with a littleH4592 helpH5828: but manyH7227 shall cleaveH3867[H8738] to them with flatteriesH2519. |
[34]Now when they shall fall, they shall be holpen with a little help: but many shall cleave unto them feignedly. |
[35]And some of them of understandingH7919[H8688] shall fallH3782[H8735], to tryH6884[H8800] them, and to purgeH1305[H8763], and to make them whiteH3835[H8687], even to the timeH6256 of the endH7093: because it is yet for a time appointedH4150. |
[35]And some of them of understanding shall fall to try them, and to purge, and to make them white, till the time be out: for there is a time appointed. |
[36]And the kingH4428 shall doH6213[H8804] according to his willH7522; and he shall exaltH7311[H8709] himself, and magnifyH1431[H8691] himself above every godH410, and shall speakH1696[H8762] marvellous thingsH6381[H8737] against the GodH410 of godsH410, and shall prosperH6743[H8689] till the indignationH2195 be accomplishedH3615[H8804]: for that that is determinedH2782[H8737] shall be doneH6213.[H8738] |
[36]And the king shall do what him list: he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself against all, that is God, and shall speak marvelous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper, till the wrath be accomplished: for the determination is made. |
[37]Neither shall he regardH995[H8799] the GodH430 of his fathersH1, nor the desireH2532 of womenH802, nor regardH995[H8799] any godH433: for he shall magnifyH1431 himself above allH8691. |
[37]Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desires of women, nor care for any God: for he shall magnify himself above all. |
[38]But in his estateH3653 shall he honourH3513[H8762] the GodH433 of forcesH4581: and a godH433 whom his fathersH1 knewH3045[H8804] not shall he honourH3513[H8762] with goldH2091, and silverH3701, and with preciousH3368 stonesH68, and pleasant thingsH2532. |
[38]But in his place shall he honor the god Mauzzim, and the god whom his fathers knew not, shall he honor with gold and with silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things. |
[39]Thus shall he doH6213[H8804] in the most strongH4581 holdsH4013 with a strangeH5236 godH433, whom he shall acknowledgeH5234[H8686][H8675][H5234][H8689] and increaseH7235[H8686] with gloryH3519: and he shall cause them to ruleH4910[H8689] over manyH7227, and shall divideH2505[H8762] the landH127 for gainH4242. |
[39]Thus shall he do in the holds of Mauzzim with a strange god whom he shall acknowledge: he shall increase his glory, and shall cause them to rule over many and shall divide the land for gain. |
[40]And at the timeH6256 of the endH7093 shall the kingH4428 of the southH5045 pushH5055[H8691] at him: and the kingH4428 of the northH6828 shall come against him like a whirlwindH8175[H8691], with chariotsH7393, and with horsemenH6571, and with manyH7227 shipsH591; and he shall enterH935[H8804] into the countriesH776, and shall overflowH7857[H8804] and pass overH5674.[H8804] |
[40]And at the end of time shall the king of the south push at him, and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships, and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass through. |
[41]He shall enterH935[H8804] also into the gloriousH6643 landH776, and manyH7227 countries shall be overthrownH3782[H8735]: but these shall escapeH4422[H8735] out of his handH3027, even EdomH123, and MoabH4124, and the chiefH7225 of the childrenH1121 of AmmonH5983. |
[41]He shall enter also into the pleasant land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon. |
[42]He shall stretch forthH7971[H8799] his handH3027 also upon the countriesH776: and the landH776 of EgyptH4714 shall not escapeH6413. |
[42]He shall stretch forth his hands also upon the countries, and the land of Egypt shall not escape. |
[43]But he shall have powerH4910[H8804] over the treasuresH4362 of goldH2091 and of silverH3701, and over all the preciousH2532 things of EgyptH4714: and the LibyansH3864 and the EthiopiansH3569 shall be at his stepsH4703. |
[43]But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt, and of the Libyans, and of the black Moors [Ethiopians] where he shall pass. |
[44]But tidingsH8052 out of the eastH4217 and out of the northH6828 shall troubleH926[H8762] him: therefore he shall go forthH3318[H8804] with greatH1419 furyH2534 to destroyH8045[H8687], and utterly to make awayH2763[H8687] manyH7227. |
[44]But the tidings out of the east and the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great wrath to destroy and root out many. |
[45]And he shall plantH5193[H8799] the tabernaclesH168 of his palaceH643 between the seasH3220 in the gloriousH6643 holyH6944 mountainH2022; yet he shall comeH935[H8804] to his endH7093, and none shall helpH5826 himH8802. |
[45]And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious and holy mountain, yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him. |
