Young's Literal Translation
YLT
[1]Now therefore hearkenH8085[H8798], O IsraelH3478, unto the statutesH2706 and unto the judgmentsH4941, which I teachH3925[H8764] you, for to doH6213[H8800] them, that ye may liveH2421[H8799], and go inH935[H8804] and possessH3423[H8804] the landH776 which the LORDH3068 GodH430 of your fathersH1 givethH5414 youH8802. [1]`And now, Israel, hearken unto the statutes, and unto the judgments which I am teaching you to do, so that ye live, and have gone in, and possessed the land which Jehovah God of your fathers is giving to you.
[2]Ye shall not addH3254[H8686] unto the wordH1697 which I commandH6680[H8764] you, neither shall ye diminishH1639[H8799] ought from it, that ye may keepH8104[H8800] the commandmentsH4687 of the LORDH3068 your GodH430 which I commandH6680 youH8764. [2]Ye do not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor diminish from it, to keep the commands of Jehovah your God which I am commanding you.
[3]Your eyesH5869 have seenH7200[H8802] what the LORDH3068 didH6213[H8804] because of BaalpeorH1187: for all the menH376 that followedH310[H1980][H8804] BaalpeorH1187, the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 hath destroyedH8045[H8689] them from among youH7130. [3]`Your eyes are seeing that which Jehovah hath done in Baal-Peor, for every man who hath gone after Baal-Peor, Jehovah thy God hath destroyed him from thy midst;
[4]But ye that did cleaveH1695 unto the LORDH3068 your GodH430 are aliveH2416 every one of you this dayH3117. [4]and ye who are cleaving to Jehovah your God, [are] alive, all of you, to-day.
[5]BeholdH7200[H8798], I have taughtH3925[H8765] you statutesH2706 and judgmentsH4941, even asH834 the LORDH3068 my GodH430 commandedH6680[H8765] me, that ye should doH6213[H8800] so inH7130 the landH776 whither ye goH935[H8802] to possessH3423 itH8800. [5]`See, I have taught you statutes and judgments, as Jehovah my God hath commanded me -- to do so, in the midst of the land whither ye are going in to possess it;
[6]KeepH8104[H8804] therefore and doH6213[H8804] them; for this is your wisdomH2451 and your understandingH998 in the sightH5869 of the nationsH5971, which shall hearH8085[H8799] all these statutesH2706, and sayH559[H8804], Surely this greatH1419 nationH1471 is a wiseH2450 and understandingH995[H8737] peopleH5971. [6]and ye have kept and done [them] (for it [is] your wisdom and your understanding) before the eyes of the peoples who hear all these statutes, and they have said, Only, a people wise and understanding [is] this great nation.
[7]For what nationH1471 is there so greatH1419, who hath GodH430 so nighH7138 unto them, as the LORDH3068 our GodH430 is in all things that we callH7121 upon him forH8800? [7]`For which [is] the great nation that hath God near unto it, as Jehovah our God, in all we have called unto him?
[8]And what nationH1471 is there so greatH1419, that hath statutesH2706 and judgmentsH4941 so righteousH6662 as all this lawH8451, which I setH5414[H8802] beforeH6440 you this dayH3117? [8]and which [is] the great nation which hath righteous statutes and judgments according to all this law which I am setting before you to-day?
[9]Only take heedH8104[H8734] to thyself, and keepH8104[H8798] thy soulH5315 diligentlyH3966, lest thou forgetH7911[H8799] the thingsH1697 which thine eyesH5869 have seenH7200[H8804], and lest they departH5493[H8799] from thy heartH3824 all the daysH3117 of thy lifeH2416: but teachH3045[H8689] them thy sonsH1121, and thy sons'H1121 sonsH1121; [9]`Only, take heed to thyself, and watch thy soul exceedingly, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they turn aside from thy heart, all days of thy life; and thou hast made them known to thy sons, and to thy sons' sons.
[10]Specially the dayH3117 that thou stoodestH5975[H8804] beforeH6440 the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 in HorebH2722, when the LORDH3068 saidH559[H8800] unto me, GatherH6950 me the peopleH5971 togetherH6950[H8685], and I will make them hearH8085[H8686] my wordsH1697, that they may learnH3925[H8799] to fearH3372[H8800] me all the daysH3117 that they shall liveH2416 upon the earthH127, and that they may teachH3925[H8762] their childrenH1121. [10]`The day when thou hast stood before Jehovah thy God in Horeb -- in Jehovah's saying unto me, Assemble to Me the people, and I cause them to hear My words, so that they learn to fear Me all the days that they are alive on the ground, and their sons they teach; --
[11]And ye came nearH7126[H8799] and stoodH5975[H8799] under the mountainH2022; and the mountainH2022 burnedH1197[H8802] with fireH784 unto the midstH3820 of heavenH8064, with darknessH6205, cloudsH6051, and thick darknessH2822. [11]and ye draw near and stand under the mountain, and the mountain is burning with fire unto the heart of the heavens -- darkness, cloud, yea, thick darkness:
[12]And the LORDH3068 spakeH1696[H8762] unto you out of the midstH8432 of the fireH784: ye heardH8085[H8802] the voiceH6963 of the wordsH1697, but sawH7200[H8802] no similitudeH8544; onlyH2108 ye heard a voiceH6963. [12]`And Jehovah speaketh unto you out of the midst of the fire; a voice of words ye are hearing and a similitude ye are not seeing, only a voice;
[13]And he declaredH5046[H8686] unto you his covenantH1285, which he commandedH6680[H8765] you to performH6213[H8800], even tenH6235 commandmentsH1697; and he wroteH3789[H8799] them upon twoH8147 tablesH3871 of stoneH68. [13]and He declareth to you His covenant, which He hath commanded you to do, the Ten Matters, and He writeth them upon two tables of stone.
[14]And the LORDH3068 commandedH6680[H8765] me at that timeH6256 to teachH3925[H8763] you statutesH2706 and judgmentsH4941, that ye might doH6213[H8800] them in the landH776 whither ye go overH5674[H8802] to possessH3423 itH8800. [14]`And me hath Jehovah commanded at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, for your doing them in the land whither ye are passing over to possess it;
[15]Take ye therefore goodH3966 heedH8104[H8738] unto yourselvesH5315; for ye sawH7200[H8804] no manner of similitudeH8544 on the dayH3117 that the LORDH3068 spakeH1696[H8763] unto you in HorebH2722 out of the midstH8432 of the fireH784: [15]and ye have been very watchful of your souls, for ye have not seen any similitude in the day of Jehovah's speaking unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire,
[16]Lest ye corruptH7843[H8686] yourselves, and makeH6213[H8804] you a graven imageH6459, the similitudeH8544 of any figureH5566, the likenessH8403 of maleH2145 or femaleH5347, [16]lest ye do corruptly, and have made to you a graven image, a similitude of any figure, a form of male or female --
[17]The likenessH8403 of any beastH929 that is on the earthH776, the likenessH8403 of any wingedH3671 fowlH6833 that fliethH5774[H8799] in the airH8064, [17]a form of any beast which [is] in the earth -- a form of any winged bird which flieth in the heavens --
[18]The likenessH8403 of any thing that creepethH7430[H8802] on the groundH127, the likenessH8403 of any fishH1710 that is in the watersH4325 beneathH8478 the earthH776: [18]a form of any creeping thing on the ground -- a form of any fish which [is] in the waters under the earth;
[19]And lest thou lift upH5375[H8799] thine eyesH5869 unto heavenH8064, and when thou seestH7200[H8804] the sunH8121, and the moonH3394, and the starsH3556, even all the hostH6635 of heavenH8064, shouldest be drivenH5080[H8738] to worshipH7812[H8694] them, and serveH5647[H8804] them, which the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 hath dividedH2505[H8804] unto all nationsH5971 under the whole heavenH8064. [19]`And lest thou lift up thine eyes towards the heavens, and hast seen the sun, and the moon, and the stars, all the host of the heavens, and thou hast been forced, and hast bowed thyself to them, and served them, which Jehovah thy God hath apportioned to all the peoples under the whole heavens.
[20]But the LORDH3068 hath takenH3947[H8804] you, and brought you forthH3318[H8686] out of the ironH1270 furnaceH3564, even out of EgyptH4714, to be unto him a peopleH5971 of inheritanceH5159, as ye are this dayH3117. [20]`And you hath Jehovah taken, and He is bringing you out from the iron furnace, from Egypt, to be to Him for a people -- an inheritance, as [at] this day.
[21]Furthermore the LORDH3068 was angryH599[H8694] with me for your sakesH1697, and swareH7650[H8735] that I should not go overH5674[H8800] JordanH3383, and that I should not goH935[H8800] in unto that goodH2896 landH776, which the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 givethH5414[H8802] thee for an inheritanceH5159: [21]`And Jehovah hath shewed himself wroth with me because of your words, and sweareth to my not passing over the Jordan, and to my not going in unto the good land which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee -- an inheritance;
[22]But I must dieH4191[H8801] in this landH776, I must not go overH5674[H8802] JordanH3383: but ye shall go overH5674[H8802], and possessH3423[H8804] that goodH2896 landH776. [22]for I am dying in this land; I am not passing over the Jordan, and ye are passing over, and have possessed this good land.
[23]Take heedH8104[H8734] unto yourselves, lest ye forgetH7911[H8799] the covenantH1285 of the LORDH3068 your GodH430, which he madeH3772[H8804] with you, and makeH6213[H8804] you a graven imageH6459, or the likenessH8544 of anyH3605 thing, which the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 hath forbiddenH6680 theeH8765. [23]`Take heed to yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of Jehovah your God, which He hath made with you, and have made to yourselves a graven image, a similitude of anything [concerning] which Jehovah thy God hath charged thee:
[24]For the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 is a consumingH398[H8802] fireH784, even a jealousH7067 GodH410. [24]for Jehovah thy God is a fire consuming -- a zealous God.
[25]When thou shalt begetH3205[H8686] childrenH1121, and children'sH1121 childrenH1121, and ye shall have remained longH3462[H8738] in the landH776, and shall corruptH7843[H8689] yourselves, and makeH6213[H8804] a graven imageH6459, or the likenessH8544 of any thing, and shall doH6213[H8804] evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068 thy GodH430, to provoke him to angerH3707:[H8687] [25]`When thou begettest sons and sons' sons, and ye have become old in the land, and have done corruptly, and have made a graven image, a similitude of anything, and have done the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, to provoke Him to anger: --
[26]I callH5749 heavenH8064 and earthH776 to witnessH5749[H8689] against you this dayH3117, that ye shall soonH4118 utterlyH6[H8800] perishH6[H8799] from off the landH776 whereunto ye go overH5674[H8802] JordanH3383 to possessH3423[H8800] it; ye shall not prolongH748[H8686] your daysH3117 upon it, but shall utterlyH8045[H8736] be destroyedH8045.[H8735] [26]I have caused to testify against you this day the heavens and the earth, that ye do perish utterly hastily from off the land whither ye are passing over the Jordan to possess it; ye do not prolong days upon it, but are utterly destroyed;
[27]And the LORDH3068 shall scatterH6327[H8689] you among the nationsH5971, and ye shall be leftH7604[H8738] fewH4962 in numberH4557 among the heathenH1471, whither the LORDH3068 shall leadH5090 youH8762. [27]and Jehovah hath scattered you among the peoples, and ye have been left few in number among the nations, whither Jehovah leadeth you,
[28]And there ye shall serveH5647[H8804] godsH430, the workH4639 of men'sH120 handsH3027, woodH6086 and stoneH68, which neither seeH7200[H8799], nor hearH8085[H8799], nor eatH398[H8799], nor smellH7306.[H8686] [28]and ye have served there gods, work of man's hands, wood and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.
[29]But if from thence thou shalt seekH1245[H8765] the LORDH3068 thy GodH430, thou shalt findH4672[H8804] him, if thou seekH1875[H8799] him with all thy heartH3824 and with all thy soulH5315. [29]`And -- ye have sought from thence Jehovah thy God, and hast found, when thou seekest Him with all thy heart, and with all thy soul,
[30]When thou art in tribulationH6862, and all these thingsH1697 are comeH4672[H8804] upon thee, even in the latterH319 daysH3117, if thou turnH7725[H8804] to the LORDH3068 thy GodH430, and shalt be obedientH8085[H8804] unto his voiceH6963; [30]in distress [being] to thee, and all these things have found thee, in the latter end of the days, and thou hast turned back unto Jehovah thy God, and hast hearkened to His voice;
[31](For the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 is a mercifulH7349 GodH410;) he will not forsakeH7503[H8686] thee, neither destroyH7843[H8686] thee, nor forgetH7911[H8799] the covenantH1285 of thy fathersH1 which he swareH7650 unto themH8738. [31]for a merciful God [is] Jehovah thy God; He doth not fail thee, nor destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers, which He hath sworn to them.
[32]For askH7592[H8798] now of the daysH3117 that are pastH7223, which wereH1961[H8738] beforeH6440 thee, since the dayH3117 that GodH430 createdH1254[H8804] manH120 upon the earthH776, and ask from the one sideH7097 of heavenH8064 unto the other, whether there hath been any such thing as this greatH1419 thingH1697 is, or hath been heardH8085 like itH8738? [32]`For, ask, I pray thee, at the former days which have been before thee, from the day that God prepared man on the earth, and from the [one] end of the heavens even unto the [other] end of the heavens, whether there hath been as this great thing -- or hath been heard like it?
[33]Did ever peopleH5971 hearH8085[H8804] the voiceH6963 of GodH430 speaking outH1696[H8764] of the midstH8432 of the fireH784, as thou hast heardH8085[H8804], and liveH2421?[H8799] [33]Hath a people heard the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as thou hast heard, thou -- and doth live?
[34]Or hath GodH430 assayedH5254[H8765] to goH935[H8800] and takeH3947[H8800] him a nationH1471 from the midstH7130 of another nationH1471, by temptationsH4531, by signsH226, and by wondersH4159, and by warH4421, and by a mightyH2389 handH3027, and by a stretched outH5186[H8803] armH2220, and by greatH1419 terrorsH4172, according to all that the LORDH3068 your GodH430 didH6213[H8804] for you in EgyptH4714 before your eyesH5869? [34]Or hath God tried to go in to take to Himself, a nation from the midst of a nation, by trials, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a strong hand, and by a stretched-out arm, and by great terrors -- according to all that Jehovah your God hath done to you, in Egypt, before your eyes?
[35]Unto thee it was shewedH7200[H8717], that thou mightest knowH3045[H8800] that the LORDH3068 he is GodH430; there is none elseH5750 beside himH905. [35]Thou, thou hast been shewn [it], to know that Jehovah He [is] God; there is none else besides Him.
[36]Out of heavenH8064 he made thee to hearH8085[H8689] his voiceH6963, that he might instructH3256[H8763] thee: and upon earthH776 he shewedH7200[H8689] thee his greatH1419 fireH784; and thou heardestH8085[H8804] his wordsH1697 out of the midstH8432 of the fireH784. [36]`From the heavens He hath caused thee to hear His voice, to instruct thee, and on earth He hath shewed thee His great fire, and His words thou hast heard out of the midst of the fire.
[37]And because he lovedH157[H8804] thy fathersH1, therefore he choseH977[H8799] their seedH2233 afterH310 them, and brought thee outH3318[H8686] in his sightH6440 with his mightyH1419 powerH3581 out of EgyptH4714; [37]`And because that He hath loved thy fathers, He doth also fix on their seed after them, and doth bring thee out, in His presence, by His great power, from Egypt:
[38]To drive outH3423[H8687] nationsH1471 from beforeH6440 thee greaterH1419 and mightierH6099 than thou art, to bringH935[H8687] thee in, to giveH5414[H8800] thee their landH776 for an inheritanceH5159, as it is this dayH3117. [38]to dispossess nations greater and stronger than thou, from thy presence, to bring thee in to give to thee their land -- an inheritance, as [at] this day.
[39]KnowH3045[H8804] therefore this dayH3117, and considerH7725[H8689] it in thine heartH3824, that the LORDH3068 he is GodH430 in heavenH8064 aboveH4605, and upon the earth beneath: there is none elseH776. [39]`And thou hast known to-day, and hast turned [it] back unto thy heart, that Jehovah He [is] God, in the heavens above, and on the earth beneath -- there is none else;
[40]Thou shalt keepH8104[H8804] therefore his statutesH2706, and his commandmentsH4687, which I commandH6680[H8764] thee this dayH3117, that it may go wellH3190[H8799] with thee, and with thy childrenH1121 afterH310 thee, and that thou mayest prolongH748[H8686] thy daysH3117 upon the earthH127, which the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 givethH5414 thee, for everH8802. [40]and thou hast kept His statutes and His commands which I am commanding thee to-day, so that it is well to thee, and to thy sons after thee, and so that thou prolongest days on the ground which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee -- all the days.'
[41]Then MosesH4872 severedH914[H8686] threeH7969 citiesH5892 on this sideH5676 JordanH3383 H8121toward the sunrisingH4217 [41]Then Moses separateth three cities beyond the Jordan, towards the sun-rising,
[42]That the slayerH7523[H8802] might fleeH5127[H8800] thither, which should killH7523[H8799] his neighbourH7453 unawaresH1097[H1847], and hatedH8130[H8802] him not in timesH8543 pastH8032; and that fleeingH5127[H8804] unto oneH259 of theseH411 citiesH5892 he might liveH2425:[H8804] [42]for the fleeing thither of the man-slayer, who slayeth his neighbour unknowingly, and he is not hating him heretofore, and he hath fled unto one of these cities, and he hath lived:
[43]Namely, BezerH1221 in the wildernessH4057, in the plainH4334 countryH776, of the ReubenitesH7206; and RamothH7216 in GileadH1568, of the GaditesH1425; and GolanH1474 in BashanH1316, of the ManassitesH4520. [43]Bezer, in the wilderness, in the land of the plain, of the Reubenite; and Ramoth, in Gilead, of the Gadite; and Golan, in Bashan, of the Manassahite.
[44]And this is the lawH8451 which MosesH4872 setH7760[H8804] beforeH6440 the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478: [44]And this [is] the law which Moses hath set before the sons of Israel;
[45]These are the testimoniesH5713, and the statutesH2706, and the judgmentsH4941, which MosesH4872 spakeH1696[H8765] unto the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, after they came forthH3318[H8800] out of EgyptH4714, [45]these [are] the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which Moses hath spoken unto the sons of Israel, in their coming out of Egypt,
[46]On this sideH5676 JordanH3383, in the valleyH1516 over againstH4136 BethpeorH1047, in the landH776 of SihonH5511 kingH4428 of the AmoritesH567, who dweltH3427[H8802] at HeshbonH2809, whom MosesH4872 and the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 smoteH5221[H8689], after they were come forthH3318[H8800] out of EgyptH4714: [46]beyond the Jordan, in the valley over-against Beth-Peor, in the land of Sihon, king of the Amorite, who is dwelling in Heshbon, whom Moses and the sons of Israel have smitten, in their coming out of Egypt,
[47]And they possessedH3423[H8799] his landH776, and the landH776 of OgH5747 kingH4428 of BashanH1316, twoH8147 kingsH4428 of the AmoritesH567, which were on this sideH5676 JordanH3383 H4217toward the sunrisingH8121 [47]and they possess his land, and the land of Og king of Bashan, two kings of the Amorite who [are] beyond the Jordan, [towards] the sun-rising;
[48]From AroerH6177, which is by the bankH8193 of the riverH5158 ArnonH769, even unto mountH2022 SionH7865, which is HermonH2768, [48]from Aroer, which [is] by the edge of the brook Arnon, even unto mount Sion, which [is] Hermon --
[49]And all the plainH6160 on this sideH5676 JordanH3383 eastwardH4217, even unto the seaH3220 of the plainH6160, under the springsH794 of PisgahH6449. [49]and all the plain beyond the Jordan eastward, even unto the sea of the plain, under the springs of Pisgah.
