Peshitta NT (Murdock, 1852)
PesNT(Mur)
The Geneva Bible (1560)
Geneva
[1]Be ye therefore imitators of God, as dear children: [1]Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children,
[2]and walk in love; as the Messiah also hath loved us, and hath given up himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God, for a sweet odor. [2]And walk in love, even as Christ hath loved us, and hath given himself for us, to be an offering and a sacrifice of a sweet-smelling savor to God.
[3]But whoredom, and all impurity, and avarice let them not be at all heard of among you, as it becometh the saints; [3]But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as it becometh Saints,
[4]Neither obscenities, nor words of folly, or of division, or of scurrility, which are not useful; but instead of these, thanksgiving. [4]Neither filthiness, neither foolish talking, neither jesting, which are things not comely, but rather giving of thanks.
[5]For this know ye, that every man who is a whoremonger, or impure, or avaricious, or a worshipper of idols, hath no inheritance in the kingdom of the Messiah and of God. [5]For this ye know, that no whoremonger, neither unclean person, nor covetous person, which is an idolator, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ, and of God.
[6]Let no man deceive you with vain words; for it is on account of these things that the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience. [6]Let no man deceive you with vain words: for from such things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
[7]Therefore be ye not like them. [7]Be not therefore companions with them.
[8]For ye were heretofore darkness, but now are ye light in our Lord: therefore, as the children of light, so walk ye. [8]For ye were once darkness, but are now light in the Lord: walk as children of light,
[9]For the fruits of the light are in all goodness, and righteousness, and truth. [9](For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, and righteousness, and truth)
[10]And search out what is pleasing before our Lord: [10]Approving that which is pleasing to the Lord.
[11]And have no commerce with the works of darkness which are unfruitful, but reprove them. [11]And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but even reprove them rather.
[12]For the things they do in secret, it is nauseous even to mention. [12]For it is shame even to speak of the things which are done of them in secret.
[13]For all things are exposed and made manifest by the light: and whatever maketh manifest, is light. [13]But all things when they are reproved of the light, are manifest: for it is light that maketh all things manifest.
[14]Wherefore it is said: Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and the Messiah will illuminate thee. [14]Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and stand up from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
[15]See therefore, that ye walk circumspectly; not like the simple, [15]Take heed therefore that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
[16]but like the wise, who purchase their opportunity; because the days are evil. [16]Redeeming the time: for the days are evil.
[17]Therefore, be not lacking in understanding; but understand ye what is the pleasure of God. [17]Wherefore, be ye not unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
[18]And be not drunk with wine, in which is dissoluteness; but be ye filled with the spirit. [18]And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess: but be fulfilled with the Spirit,
[19]And converse with yourselves in psalms and hymns; and with your hearts sing to the Lord, in spiritual songs. [19]Speaking unto yourselves in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs, singing, and making melody to the Lord in your hearts,
[20]And give thanks to God the Father, at all times, for all men, in the name of our Lord Jesus the Messiah. [20]Giving thanks always for all things unto God even the Father, in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
[21]And be submissive one to another, in the love of the Messiah. [21]Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
[22]Wives, be ye submissive to your husbands, as to our Lord. [22]Â Wife's, submit yourselves unto your husbands, as unto the Lord.
[23]Because the husband is the head of the wife, even as the Messiah is the head of the church; and he is the vivifier of the body. [23]For the husband is the wives head, even as Christ is the head of the Church, and the same is the savior of his body.
[24]And as the church is subject to the Messiah, so also let wives be to their husbands in all things. [24]Therefore as the Church is in subjection to Christ, even so let the wives be to their husbands in every thing.
[25]Husbands, love your wives, even as the Messiah loved his church, and delivered himself up for it; [25]Â Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ loved the Church, and gave himself for it,
[26]that he might sanctify it, and cleanse it, by the washing of water, and by the word; [26]That he might sanctify it, and cleanse it by the washing of water through the word,
[27]and might constitute it a glorious church for himself, in which is no stain, and no wrinkle, and nothing like them; but that it might be holy and without blemish. [27]That he might make it unto himself a glorious Church, not having spot or wrinkle, or any such thing: but that it should be holy and without blame.
[28]It behooveth men so to love their wives, as [they do] their own bodies. For he that loveth his wife loveth himself. [28]So ought men to love their wives, as their own bodies: he that loveth his wife, loveth himself.
[29]For no one ever hated his own body; but nourisheth it, and provideth for it, even as the Messiah the church. [29]For no man ever yet hated his own flesh, but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord doth the Church.
[30]For we are members of his body and of his flesh, and of his bones. [30]For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
[31]For this reason, a man should quit his father and his mother, and adhere to his wife; and the two should be one flesh. [31]For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they twain shall be one flesh.
[32]This is a great mystery; but I am speaking of the Messiah, and of his church. [32]This is a great secret, but I speak concerning Christ, and concerning the Church.
[33]Nevertheless, let each of you severally so love his wife, even as himself: and let the wife reverence her husband. [33]Therefore every one of you, do ye so: let every one love his wife, even as himself, and let the wife see that she fear her husband.
