| [1]ܘܲܫܡܲܥ ܝܲܬ݂ܪܘܿܢ ܟܘܼܡܪܵܐ ܕܡܸܕ݂ܝܲܢ: ܚܡܘܼܗܝ ܕܡܘܼܫܹܐ: ܟܠ ܡܸܕܸܿܡ ܕܲܥܒܲܕ݂ ܐܲܠܵܗܵܐ ܠܡܘܼܫܹܐ: ܘܠܝܼܣܪܵܝܹܠ ܥܲܡܹܗ ܘܕܲܐܦܸܩ ܡܵܪܝܵܐ ܠܲܒ݂ܢܲܝ ܝܼܣܪܵܝܹܠ ܡܼܢ ܡܸܨܪܹܝܢ. |
[1]When Jethro the priest of Midian Moses' father in law heard all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people, and how the Lord had brought Israel out of Egypt, |
| [2]ܘܲܕ݂ܒܲܪ ܝܲܬ݂ܪܘܿܢ ܚܡܘܼܗܝ ܕܡܘܼܫܹܐ ܠܨܸܦܘܿܪܵܐ ܒܲܪܬܹܗ ܐܲܢ̄ܬܿܬܹܗ ܕܡܘܼܫܹܐ: ܡܼܢ ܒܵܬܲܪ ܕܫܲܒ݂ܩܵܗ. |
[2]Then Jethro the father in law of Moses, took Zipporah Moses' wife, (after he had sent her away) |
| [3]ܘܠܲܬ݂ܪܹܝܢ ܒܢܹܝܗ: ܕܲܫܡܹܗ ܕܚܲܕ݂ ܓܸܪܫܘܿܢ: ܡܸܛܠ ܕܐܸܡܲܪ ܕܬ݂ܵܘܬܵܒ݂ܵܐ ܗ̄ܘܹܝܬ݂ ܒܐܲܪܥܵܐ ܢܘܼܟ݂ܪܲܝܬܵܐ. |
[3]And her two sons, (whereof the one was called Gershom: for he said, I have been an alien in a strange land: |
| [4]ܘܲܫܡܹܗ ܕܐ̄ܚܪܹܢܵܐ ܐܹܠܝܼܥܵܙܵܪ: ܡܸܛܠ ܕܐܲܠܵܗܵܐ ܕܐܲܒ݂ܵܗܲܝ ܒܥܸܕ݂ܪܝ: ܘܦܲܨܝܲܢܝ ܡܼܢ ܚܲܪܒܹܿܗ ܕܦܸܪܥܘܿܢ. |
[4]And the name of the other was Eliezer: for the God of my father, said he, was mine help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh) |
| [5]ܘܐܸܬ݂ܵܐ ܝܲܬ݂ܪܘܿܢ ܚܡܘܼܗܝ ܕܡܘܼܫܹܐ: ܘܲܒ݂ܢܵܘܗܝ ܘܐܲܢ̄ܬܿܬܹܗ ܠܘܵܬ݂ ܡܘܼܫܹܐ ܠܡܲܕ݂ܒܪܵܐ: ܕܲܫܪܹܐ ܗ̄ܘܵܐ ܬܲܡܵܢ: ܠܛܘܼܪܵܐ ܕܐܲܠܵܗܵܐ. |
[5]And Jethro Moses' father in law came with his two sons, and his wife unto Moses into the wilderness, where he camped by the mount of God. |
| [6]ܘܐܸܬ݂ܐܡܲܪ ܠܡܘܼܫܹܐ: ܕܗܵܐ ܚܡܘܼܟ݂ ܝܲܬ݂ܪܘܿܢ ܐܸܬ݂ܵܐ ܠܘܵܬ݂ܵܟ݂: ܘܐܲܢ̄ܬܿܬ݂ܵܟ݂ ܘܲܬ݂ܪܲܝܗܘܿܢ ܒܢܲܝܟ ܥܲܡܹܗ. |
[6]And he said to Moses, I thy father in law Jethro am come to thee, and thy wife and her two sons with her. |
| [7]ܘܲܢܦܲܩ ܡܘܼܫܹܐ ܠܐܘܼܪܥܹܗ ܕܲܚܡܘܼܗܝ: ܘܲܣܓܸܿܕ݂ ܠܹܗ ܘܢܲܫܩܹܗ: ܘܲܫܐܲܠܘ ܐ̄ܢܵܫ ܒܲܫܠܵܡܵܐ ܕܚܲܒ݂ܪܹܗ: ܘܥܲܠܘ ܠܡܲܫܟܿܢܵܐ. |
[7]And Moses went out to meet his father in law, and did obeisance and kissed him, and each asked other of his welfare: and they came into the tent. |
| [8]ܘܐܸܫܬܲܥܝܼ ܡܘܼܫܹܐ ܠܲܚܡܘܼܗܝ ܟܠ ܡܸܕܸܿܡ ܕܲܥܒܲܕ݂ ܡܵܪܝܵܐ ܠܦܸܪܥܘܿܢ ܘܲܠܡܸܨܪܵܝܹܐ: ܥܲܠ ܨܒ݂ܘܼܬ݂ܵܐ ܕܲܒ݂ܢܲܝ ܝܼܣܪܵܝܹܠ ܘܟ݂ܠ ܠܐܹܘܬ݂ܵܐ ܕܲܠܐܝܼܘ ܒܐܘܼܪܚܵܐ: ܘܦܲܨܝܼ ܐܸܢܘܿܢ ܡܵܪܝܵܐ. |
[8]Then Moses told his father in law all that the Lord had done unto Pharaoh, and to the Egyptians for Israel's sake, and all the travail that had come unto them by the way, and how the Lord delivered them. |
| [9]ܘܲܚܕ݂ܝܼ ܝܲܬ݂ܪܘܿܢ ܥܲܠ ܟܠ ܛܵܒ݂ܵܬ݂ܵܐ ܕܲܥܒܲܕ݂ ܡܵܪܝܵܐ ܠܝܼܣܪܵܝܹܠ: ܘܦܲܨܝܼ ܐܸܢܘܿܢ ܡܼܢ ܐܝܼܕ݂ܵܐ ܕܡܸܨܪܵܝܹܐ: ܘܡܼܢ ܐܝܼܕܹܗ ܕܦܸܪܥܘܿܢ. |
[9]And Jethro rejoiced at all the goodness, which the Lord had showed to Israel , and because he had delivered them out of the hand of the Egyptians. |
| [10]ܘܐܸܡܲܪ ܝܲܬ݂ܪܘܿܢ: ܒܪܝܼܟ݂ ܗ̄ܘܼ ܡܵܪܝܵܐ ܕܦܲܨܝܼܟ݂ܘܿܢ ܡܼܢ ܐܝܼܕ݂ܵܐ ܕܡܸܨܪܵܝܹܐ: ܘܡܼܢ ܐܝܼܕܹܗ ܕܦܸܪܥܘܿܢ: ܘܦܲܨܝܼ ܠܥܲܡܹܗ ܡܼܢ ܬܚܹܝܬ݂ ܐܝܼܕ݂ܵܐ ܕܡܸܨܪܵܝܹܐ. |
[10]Therefore Jethro said, Blessed be the Lord who hath delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh: who hath also delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians. |
| [11]ܗܵܫܵܐ ܝܸܕ݂ܥܹܬ݂ ܕܪܲܒ ܗ̄ܘܼ ܡܵܪܝܵܐ ܡܼܢ ܟܠܗܘܿܢ ܐܲܠܵܗܹ̈ܐ: ܡܸܛܠ ܬܲܪܥܝܼܬ݂ܵܐ ܕܐܸܬ݂ܪܲܥܝܼܘ ܥܠܲܝܗܘܿܢ. |
[11]Now I know that the Lord is greater than all the gods: for as they have dealt proudly with them, so are they recompensed. |
| [12]ܘܩܲܪܸܒ݂ ܝܲܬ݂ܪܘܿܢ ܚܡܘܼܗܝ ܕܡܘܼܫܹܐ: ܝܲܩܕܹ̈ܐ ܫܲܠܡܹܐ ܘܕ݂ܒ݂̈ܚܹܐ ܠܡܵܪܝܵܐ: ܘܐܸܬ݂ܵܐ ܐܲܗܪܘܿܢ ܘܟ݂ܠܗܘܿܢ ܣܵܒܹ̈ܐ ܕܲܒ݂ܢܲܝ ܝܼܣܪܵܝܹܠ ܠܡܹܐܟܲܠ ܠܲܚܡܵܐ: ܥܲܡ ܚܡܘܼܗܝ ܕܡܘܼܫܹܐ ܩܕ݂ܵܡ ܐܲܠܵܗܵܐ. |
[12]Then Jethro Moses' father in law took burnt offerings and sacrifices to offer unto God. And Aaron and all the elders of Israel came to eat bread with Moses' father in law before God. |
| [13]ܘܲܗܘܵܐ ܠܒ݂ܵܬܲܪ ܝܵܘܡܵܐ: ܘܝܼܬܸܒ݂ ܡܘܼܫܹܐ ܠܲܡܕ݂ܵܢ ܠܥܲܡܵܐ: ܘܩܵܝܡܝܼܢ ܗ̄ܘܵܘ ܥܲܡܵܐ ܠܥܸܠ ܡܼܢ ܡܘܼܫܹܐ: ܡܼܢ ܨܲܦܪܵܐ ܘܲܥܕܲܡܵܐ ܠܪܲܡܫܵܐ. |
[13]Now on the morrow, when Moses sat to judge the people, the people stood about Moses from morning unto even. |
| [14]ܘܲܚܙܵܐ ܚܡܘܼܗܝ ܕܡܘܼܫܹܐ ܟܠ ܡܸܕܸܿܡ ܕܲܥܒܲܕ݂ ܠܥܲܡܵܐ: ܘܐܸܡܲܪ ܠܹܗ: ܡܲܢܘܼ ܦܸܬ݂ܓ݂ܵܡܵܐ ܗܵܢܵܐ ܕܥܵܒܹܕ݂ ܐܲܢ̄ܬ ܠܥܲܡܵܐ: ܠܡܵܢܵܐ ܝܵܬܸܒ݂ ܐܲܢ̄ܬ ܒܲܠܚܘܿܕܲܝܟ: ܘܟ݂ܠܹܗ ܥܲܡܵܐ ܩܵܐܹܡ ܠܥܸܠ ܡܸܢܵܟ݂: ܡܼܢ ܨܲܦܪܵܐ ܘܲܥܕܲܡܵܐ ܠܪܲܡܫܵܐ. |
[14]And when Moses' father in law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What is this that thou doest to the people? Why sittest thou thyself alone, and all the people stand about thee from morning unto even? |
| [15]ܘܐܸܡܲܪ ܡܘܼܫܹܐ ܠܲܚܡܘܼܗܝ: ܕܐܵܬܹܝܢ ܠܘܵܬ݂ܝ ܥܲܡܵܐ ܠܡܸܫܐܲܠ ܡܸܠܬ݂ܵܐ ܡܼܢ ܐܲܠܵܗܵܐ. |
[15]And Moses said unto his father in law, Because the people come unto me to seek God. |
| [16]ܘܡܵܐ ܕܗܵܘܹܐ ܠܗܘܿܢ ܦܸܬ݂ܓ݂ܵܡܵܐ: ܐܵܬܹܝܢ ܠܘܵܬ݂ܝ: ܘܕ݂ܵܐܹܢ ܐ̄ܢܵܐ ܒܹܝܬ݂ ܓܲܒ݂ܪܵܐ ܠܚܲܒ݂ܪܹܗ: ܘܲܡܚܵܘܹܐ ܐ̄ܢܵܐ ܠܗܘܿܢ ܦܘܼܩܕܵܢܵܘܗܝ ܕܐܲܠܵܗܵܐ ܘܢܵܡܘܿܣܵܘܗܝ. |
[16]When they have a matter, they come unto me, and I judge between one and another, and declare the ordinances of God, and his laws. |
| [17]ܘܐܸܡܲܪ ܠܹܗ ܚܡܘܼܗܝ ܠܡܘܼܫܹܐ: ܠܵܐ ܫܲܦܝܼܪ ܥܵܒܹܕ݂ ܐܲܢ̄ܬܿ. |
[17]But Moses' father in law said unto him, The thing, which thou doest, is not well. |
| [18]ܡܸܨܛܲܥܵܪܘܼ ܡܸܨܛܲܥܲܪ ܐܲܢ̄ܬܿ: ܐܵܦ ܐܲܢ̄ܬܿ ܐܵܦ ܟܠܹܗ ܥܲܡܵܐ ܗܵܢܵܐ ܕܥܲܡܵܟ݂: ܡܸܛܠ ܕܝܲܩܝܼܪ ܗ̄ܘܼ ܡܸܢܵܟ݂ ܦܸܬ݂ܓ݂ܵܡܵܐ: ܘܠܵܐ ܡܸܫܟܲܚ ܐܲܢ̄ܬ ܠܡܸܥܒܿܕܹܗ ܒܲܠܚܘܿܕܲܝܟ. |
[18]Thou both weariest thyself greatly, and this people that is with thee: for the thing is too heavy for thee: thou art not able to do it thyself alone. |
| [19]ܗܵܫܵܐ ܫܡܲܥ ܒܩܵܠܝ: ܘܐܸܡܠܟ݂ܵܟ݂: ܘܢܸܗܘܸܐ ܐܲܠܵܗܵܐ ܥܲܡܵܟ݂: ܗܘܝܼ ܐܲܢ̄ܬ ܡܲܠܦܵܢܵܐ ܠܥܲܡܵܐ ܡܼܢ ܐܲܠܵܗܵܐ: ܘܲܗܘܲܝܬ ܡܲܥܸܠ ܦܸܬ݂ܓ݂ܵܡܲܝܗܘܢ ܩܕ݂ܵܡ ܐܲܠܵܗܵܐ. |
[19]Hear now my voice, (I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee) be thou for the people to God-ward, and report thou the causes unto God, |
| [20]ܘܲܬ݂ܙܲܗܲܪ ܐܸܢܘܿܢ ܕܢܸܛܪܘܼܢ ܦܘܼܩܵܕܵܢܹ̈ܐ ܘܢܵܡܘܿܣܹ̈ܐ: ܘܲܬ݂ܚܵܘܹܐ ܐܸܢܘܿܢ ܐܘܼܪܚܵܐ ܕܢܹܐܙܠ̄ܘܼܢ ܒܵܗ ܘܲܥܒ݂ܵܕܹ̈ܐ ܕܢܸܥܒܿܕ݂ܘܼܢ. |
[20]And admonish them of the ordinances, and of the laws, and show them the way, wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do. |
| [21]ܘܐܲܢ̄ܬ ܬܸܚܙܸܐ ܡܼܢ ܟܠܹܗ ܥܲܡܵܐ ܓܲܒ݂ܪܹ̈ܐ ܕܚܲܝܠܵܐ: ܕܕ݂ܵܚܠܝܼܢ ܡܼܢ ܐܲܠܵܗܵܐ: ܓܲܒ݂ܪ̈ܝܼܢ ܫܲܪܝܼܪܝܼܢ: ܘܣܵܢܹܝܢ ܫܘܼܚܕܵܐ ܘܢܸܟ݂ܠܵܐ: ܘܐܲܩܝܼܡ ܥܠܲܝܗܘܿܢ ܪܹܫܲܝ ܐܠܦܹ̈ܐ: ܘܪܹܫܲܝ ܡܵܐܘܵܬ݂ܵܐ: ܘܪܹܫܲܝ ܚܲܡܫܝܼܢ: ܘܪܹܫܲܝ ܥܸܣܪܵܐ. |
[21]Moreover, provide thou among all the people men of courage, fearing God, men dealing truly, hating covetousness: and appoint such over them to be rulers over thousands, rulers over hundreds, rulers over fifties, and rulers over tens. |
| [22]ܘܢܸܗܘܘܿܢ ܕܵܝܢܝܼܢ ܠܥܲܡܵܐ ܒܟ݂ܠܥܕܵܢ: ܘܟܲܕ݂ ܢܸܗܘܸܐ ܠܗܘܿܢ ܦܸܬ݂ܓ݂ܵܡܵܐ ܪܲܒܵܐ: ܢܹܐܬ݂ܘܿܢ ܠܘܵܬ݂ܵܟ݂: ܘܟ݂ܠ ܦܸܬ݂ܓ݂ܵܡܵܐ ܙܥܘܿܪܵܐ ܗܸܢܘܿܢ ܢܕ݂ܘܼܢܘܼܢ: ܘܐܲܩܸܠ ܡܸܢܵܟ݂: ܘܢܸܫܩܠܘܼܢ ܥܲܡܵܟ݂. |
[22]And let them judge the people at all seasons: but every great matter let them bring unto thee, and let them judge all small causes: so shall it be easier for thee, when they shall bear the burden with thee. |
| [23]ܘܐܸܢ ܦܸܬ݂ܓ݂ܵܡܵܐ ܗܵܢܵܐ ܬܸܥܒܸܿܕ݂: ܡܦܲܩܸܕ݂ ܠܵܟ݂ ܐܲܠܵܗܵܐ: ܘܡܸܫܟܲܚ ܐܲܢ̄ܬ ܠܲܡܩܵܡ: ܘܐܵܦ ܟܠܹܗ ܥܲܡܵܐ ܗܵܢܵܐ: ܐ̄ܢܵܫ ܠܒܲܝܬܹܿܗ ܢܹܐܙܠ̄ܘܼܢ ܒܲܫܠܵܡܵܐ. |
[23]If thou do this thing, (and God so command thee) both thou shalt be able to endure, and all this people shall also go quietly to their place. |
| [24]ܘܲܫܡܲܥ ܡܘܼܫܹܐ ܒܩܵܠܹܗ ܕܲܚܡܘܼܗܝ: ܘܲܥܒܲܕ݂ ܟܠ ܡܸܕܸܿܡ ܕܐܸܡܲܪ ܠܹܗ. |
[24]So Moses obeyed the voice of his father in law, and did all that he had said: |
| [25]ܘܲܓ݂ܒ݂ܵܐ ܡܘܼܫܹܐ ܓܲܒ݂ܪܹ̈ܐ ܕܚܲܝܠܵܐ ܡܼܢ ܟܠܹܗ ܝܼܣܪܵܝܹܠ: ܘܐܲܩܝܼܡ ܐܸܢܘܿܢ ܪܹܫܵܐ ܥܲܠ ܥܲܡܵܐ: ܪܹܫܲܝ ܐܲܠܦܹ̈ܐ: ܘܪܹܫܲܝ ܡܵܐܘܵܬ݂ܵܐ: ܘܪܹܫܲܝ ܚܲܡܫܝܼܢ: ܘܪܹܫܲܝ ܥܸܣܪܵܐ. |
[25]And Moses chose men of courage out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers over thousands, rulers over hundreds, rulers over fifties, and rulers over tens. |
| [26]ܘܕ݂ܵܝܢܝܼܢ ܗ̄ܘܵܘ ܠܥܲܡܵܐ ܒܟ݂ܠܥܕܵܢ: ܘܦܸܬ݂ܓ݂ܵܡܵܐ ܕܲܩܫܹܐ ܡܵܝܬܿܝܼܢ ܗ̄ܘܵܘ ܠܘܵܬ݂ ܡܘܼܫܹܐ: ܘܦܸܬ݂ܓ݂ܵܡܵܐ ܙܥܘܿܪܵܐ ܕܵܝܢܝܼܢ ܗ̄ܘܵܘ ܗܸܢܘܿܢ. |
[26]And they judged the people at all seasons, but they brought the hard causes unto Moses: for they judged all small matters themselves. |
| [27]ܘܫܲܕܲܪ ܡܘܼܫܹܐ ܠܲܚܡܘܼܗܝ ܘܐܸܙܲܠ ܠܐܲܪܥܹܗ. |
[27]Afterward Moses let his father in law depart, and he went into his country. |
