Peshitta (Lamsa, 1933)
Pes(Lam)
[1]In the third month, after the children of Israel were gone out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai. [1]IN the third month after the departure of the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt, on the same day they came to the wilderness of Seen.
[2]For they departed from Rephidim, and came to the desert of Sinai, and camped in the wilderness: even there Israel camped before the mount. [2]Then they journeyed from Rephidim and came to the wilderness of Sinai, and they encamped in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mountain.
[3]But Moses went up unto God, for the Lord had called out of the mount unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel, [3]And Moses went up to God, and God called to him out of the mountain and said to him, Thus shall you say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel,
[4]Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I carried you upon eagles' wings, and have brought you unto me. [4]You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you as though you were on eagles' wings and brought you to myself.
[5]Now therefore if ye will hear my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be my chief treasure above all people, though all the earth be mine. [5]Now therefore, if you will obey my voice indeed and keep my covenant, then you shall be my beloved ones above all peoples, for all the earth is mine;
[6]Ye shall be unto me also a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel. [6]And you shall be to me a kingdom and priests and an holy people. These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.
[7]Moses then came and called for the elders of the people, and proposed unto them all these things, which the Lord commanded him. [7]And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and said in their presence all these words which the LORD commanded him.
[8]And the people answered all together, and said, All that the Lord hath commanded, we will do. And Moses reported the words of the people unto the Lord. [8]And all the people answered together and said, All that the LORD has spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people to the LORD
[9]And the Lord said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear, while I talk with thee, and that they may also believe thee forever. (for Moses had told the words of the people unto the Lord) [9]And the LORD said to Moses, Lo, I am coming to you in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you and also believe you for ever. And Moses told the words of the people before the LORD.
[10]Moreover, the Lord said unto Moses, Go to the people, and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes. [10]And the LORD said to Moses, Go to the people and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes,
[11]And let them be ready on the third day: for the third day the Lord will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai: [11]And be ready by the third day; for on the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.
[12]And thou shalt set marks unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves that ye go not up to the mount, nor touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount, shall surely die. [12]And you shall publish a warning among the people, saying, Take heed to yourselves, neither go up into the mountain, nor draw near to the border of it; whoever draws near to the mountain shall be put to death:
[13]No hand shall touch it, but he shall be stoned to death, or stricken through with darts: whether it be beast or man, he shall not live: when the horn bloweth long, they shall come up into the mountain. [13]No hand shall touch it, but he shall surely be stoned and hurled down; whether it be beast or man, it shall not live; when the trumpet is silent, then you are permitted to ascend the mountain.
[14]Then Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people, and they washed their clothes. [14]And Moses went down from the mountain to the people and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes.
[15]And he said unto the people, Be ready on the third day, and come not at your wives. [15]And he said to the people, Be ready on the third day; do not touch your wives
[16]And the third day, when it was morning, there was thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the sound of the trumpet exceeding loud, so that all the people, that was in the camp, was afraid. [16]And it came to pass on the third day in the morning that there were thunders and lightnings and a thick cloud appeared upon the mountain and the sound of the trumpet exceedingly loud; so that all the people that were in the camp trembled.
[17]Then Moses brought the people out of the tents to meet with God, and they stood in the nether part of the mount. [17]Then Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet God; and they stood at the base of the mountain.
[18]And mount Sinai was all on smoke, because the Lord came down upon it in fire, and the smoke thereof ascended, as the smoke of a furnace, and all the mount trembled exceedingly. [18]And the whole mountain of Sinai was smoking because the LORD descended upon it in fire; and the smoke thereof ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly.
[19]And when the sound of the trumpet blew long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by voice. [19]And when the blast of the trumpet sounded long and grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by a voice.
[20](For the Lord came down upon mount Sinai on the top of the mount) and when the Lord called Moses up into the top of the mount, Moses went up. [20]And the LORD came down upon mount Sinai, to the very top of the mountain: and the LORD called Moses up to the top of the mountain; and Moses went up.
[21]Then the Lord said unto Moses, Go down, charge the people, that they break not their bounds, to go up to the Lord to gaze, lest many of them perish. [21]And the LORD said to Moses, Go down, warn the people, test they break through to the LORD to gaze, and many of them perish.
[22]And let the priests also which come to the Lord be sanctified, lest the Lord destroy them. [22]And let the priests also who come near to the LORD sanctify themselves, lest the LORD break forth upon them.
[23]And Moses said unto the Lord, The people cannot come up into the mount Sinai: for thou hast charged us, saying, Set marks on the mountain, and sanctify it. [23]And Moses said to the LORD, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai; for thou didst warn us, saying, Set bounds about the mountain and sanctify it.
[24]And the Lord said unto him, Go, get thee down, and come up, thou, and Aaron with thee: but let not the priests and the people break their bounds to come up unto the Lord, lest he destroy them. [24]And the LORD said to him, Hasten, go down, and then come up, you, and Aaron your brother with you; but let not the priests and the people break through to come up before the LORD, test he kill them.
[25]So Moses went down unto the people, and told them. [25]So Moses went down to the people and told them
