[1]Thou shalt not receive a false tale, neither shalt thou put thine hand with the wicked, to be a false witness. |
[1]YOU shall not confirm a false report: do not stretch out your hand taking oaths with the guilty to become a false witness for him. |
[2]Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil, neither agree in a controversy to decline after many and overthrow the truth. |
[2]You shall not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shall you testify in a lawsuit so as to pervert justice, in order to side with a multitude which deviates from justice. |
[3]Thou shalt not esteem a poor man in his cause. |
[3]Neither shall you be partial to a poor man in his lawsuit. |
[4]If thou meet thine enemy's ox, or his ass going astray, thou shalt bring him to him again. |
[4]If you meet your enemy's ox or his ass going astray, you shall surely bring it back to him again. |
[5]If thou see thine enemy's ass lying under his burden, wilt thou cease to help him? Thou shalt help him up again with it. |
[5]If you should see the ass of your enemy lying under its burden, and you are unwilling to help him lift it up, you should surely help him to lift it up nevertheless. |
[6]Thou shalt not overthrow the right of thy poor in his suit. |
[6]You shall not pervert the justice due to a poor man in his lawsuit. |
[7]Thou shalt keep thee far from a false matter, and shalt not slay the innocent and the righteous: for I will not justify a wicked man. |
[7]Keep far from a false matter; and the innocent and righteous you shall not slay; for I will not justify the wicked. |
[8]Thou shalt take no gift: for the gift blindeth the wise, and perverteth the words of the righteous. |
[8]And you shall take no bribe; for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise in judgment and perverts the words of the righteous. |
[9]Thou shalt not oppress a stranger: for ye know the heart of a stranger, seeing ye were strangers in the land of Egypt. |
[9]You shall not oppress strangers: for you know the life of a stranger; you were strangers in the land of Egypt |
[10]Moreover, six years thou shalt sow thy land, and gather the fruits thereof, |
[10]For six years you shall sow your land and shall gather in the crops thereof: |
[11]But the seventh year thou shalt let it rest and lie still, that the poor of thy people may eat, and what they leave, the beasts of the field shall eat. In like manner thou shalt do with thy vineyard, and with thine olive trees. |
[11]But the seventh year you shall leave it fallow, so that the poor of your people may eat of the fruits of it; and what is left the wild beasts may eat. You shall do in like manner with your vineyard and with your olive yard. |
[12]Six days thou shalt do thy work, and in the seventh day thou shalt rest, that thine ox, and thine ass may rest, and the son of thy maid and the stranger may be refreshed. |
[12]Six days you shall do your work, and on the seventh day you shall rest, that your ox and your ass may rest and the son of your handmaid; and that the stranger in your towns may be refreshed. |
[13]And ye shall take heed to all things that I have said unto you: and ye shall make no mention of the name of other gods, neither shall it be heard out of thy mouth. |
[13]Take heed of all things that I have said to you; and make no mention of the name of false idols, neither think of them. |
[14]Three times thou shalt keep a feast unto me in the year. |
[14]Three times in the year you shall celebrate a festival for me. |
[15]Thou shalt keep the feast of unleavened bread: thou shalt eat unleavened bread seven days, as I commanded thee, in the season of the month of Abib: for in it thou camest out of Egypt: and none shall appear before me empty: |
[15]You shall keep the festival of the unleavened bread (you shall eat unleavened bread for seven days, as I commanded you, at the time appointed of the month of Abib; for in the month of Abib you came out of the land of Egypt; you shall not appear before me without a gift offering:) |
[16]The feast also of the harvest of the first fruits of thy labors, which thou hast sown in the field: and the feast of gathering fruits in the end of the year, when thou hast gathered in thy labors out of the field. |
[16]And the festival of the harvest, the first fruits of your grain which you sow in the field; and the festival of the ingathering, which is at the end of the year, when you have gathered your crop from the field. |
[17]These three times in the year shall all thy men children appear before the Lord Jehovah. |
[17]Three times in the year all your gift offerings shall appear before the LORD your God. |
[18]Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leavened bread: neither shall the fat of my sacrifice remain until the morning. |
[18]You shall not offer the blood of a sacrifice with leavened bread; neither shall the fat of the festival sacrifices remain until morning. |
[19]The first of the first fruits of thy land thou shalt bring into the house of the Lord thy God: yet shalt thou not seethe a kid in his mother's milk. |
[19]The best of the first fruits of your land you shall bring into the house of the LORD your God. You shall not cook the meat of a kid in its mother's milk |
[20]Behold, I send an angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee to the place which I have prepared. |
[20]Behold, I send an angel before you to guard you on the way and to bring you into the land which I have prepared. |
[21]Beware of him, and hear his voice, and provoke him not: for he will not spare your misdeeds, because my name is in him. |
[21]Heed him and obey his voice; do not strive against him; perhaps he will not pardon your transgressions; for my name is upon him. |
[22]But if thou hearken unto his voice, and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and will afflict them that afflict thee. |
[22]But if you shall indeed obey his voice and do all that he says to you, then I will hate those who hate you and oppress your enemies. |
[23]For mine angel shall go before thee, and bring thee unto the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, and I will destroy them. |
[23]For my angel shall go before you and bring you against the Amorites and the Hittites and the Perizzites and the Canaanites and the Hivites and the Jebusites; and I will destroy them. |
[24]Thou shalt not bow down to their gods, neither serve them, nor do after the works of them: but utterly overthrow them, and break in pieces their images. |
[24]You shall not worship their gods nor serve them nor do after their works; but you shall utterly overthrow them and break down their statues. |
[25]For ye shall serve the Lord your God, and he shall bless thy bread and thy water, and I will take all sickness away from the midst of thee. |
[25]And you shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless your bread and your water; and I will take sickness away from your houses. |
[26]There shall none cast their fruit nor be barren in thy land: the number of thy days will I fulfill. |
[26]There shall nothing cast their young nor be barren in your land; the number of your days I will fulfil. |
[27]I will send my fear before thee, and will destroy all the people among whom thou shalt go: and I will make all thine enemies turn their backs unto thee: |
[27]I will send my fear before you and will destroy all the peoples against whom you shall go to war, and I will make all your enemies flee from you. |
[28]And I will send hornets before thee, which shall drive out the Hivites, the Canaanites, and the Hittites from thy face. |
[28]And I will send fierce armies before you, and will destroy the Canaanites and the Hittites from before you. |
[29]I will not cast them out from thy face in one year, lest the land grow to a wilderness: and the beasts of the field multiply against thee. |
[29]I will not destroy them from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the wild beasts multiply against you. |
[30]By little and little I will drive them out from thy face until thou increase, and inherit the land. |
[30]Little by little I will destroy them before you, till you become strong and inherit the land. |
[31]And I will make thy coasts from the Red Sea unto the sea of the Philistines, and from the desert unto the river: for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and thou shalt drive them out from thy face. |
[31]And I will set your boundaries from the Red Sea as far as the sea of the Philistines, and from the desert to the river Euphrates; for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hands; and you shall destroy them. |
[32]Thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor with their gods: |
[32]You shall make no covenant with them, nor with their idols. |
[33]Neither shall they dwell in thy land, lest they make thee sin against me: for if thou serve their gods, surely it shall be thy destruction. |
[33]They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin before me; you shall not serve their gods, lest they be a stumbling block to you |
