| [1]ויאמר יהוה אל משה פסל לך שני לחת אבנים כראשנים וכתבתי על הלחת את הדברים אשר היו על הלחת הראשנים אשר שברת |
[1]And the Lord said unto Moses, Hew thee two tables of stone, like unto the first, and I will write upon the tables the words that were in the first tables, which thou breakest in pieces. |
| [2]והיה נכון לבקר ועלית בבקר אל הר סיני ונצבת לי שם על ראש ההר |
[2]And be ready in the morning, that thou mayest come up early unto the mount of Sinai, and wait there for me in the top of the mount. |
| [3]ואיש לא יעלה עמך וגם איש אל ירא בכל ההר גם הצאן והבקר אל ירעו אל מול ההר ההוא |
[3]But let no man come up with thee, neither let any man be seen throughout all the mount, neither let the sheep nor cattle feed before this mount. |
| [4]ויפסל שני לחת אבנים כראשנים וישכם משה בבקר ויעל אל הר סיני כאשר צוה יהוה אתו ויקח בידו שני לחת אבנים |
[4]Then Moses hewed two tables of stone like unto the first, and rose up early in the morning, and went up unto the mount of Sinai, as the Lord had commanded him, and took in his hand two tables of stone. |
| [5]וירד יהוה בענן ויתיצב עמו שם ויקרא בשם יהוה |
[5]And the Lord descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord. |
| [6]ויעבר יהוה על פניו ויקרא יהוה יהוה אל רחום וחנון־ארך אפים ורב חסד ואמת |
[6]So the Lord passed before his face, and cried, The Lord, the Lord, strong, merciful, and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in goodness and truth, |
| [7]נצר חסד לאלפים נשא עון ופשע וחטאה ונקה לא ינקה־פקד עון אבות על בנים ועל בני בנים על שלשים ועל רבעים |
[7]Reserving mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity, and transgression and sin, and not making the wicked innocent, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon children's children, unto the third and fourth generation. |
| [8]וימהר משה ויקד ארצה וישתחו |
[8]Then Moses made haste and bowed himself to the earth, and worshiped, |
| [9]ויאמר אם נא מצאתי חן בעיניך אדני ילך נא אדני בקרבנו כי עם קשה ערף הוא וסלחת לעוננו ולחטאתנו ונחלתנו |
[9]And said, O Lord, I pray thee, If I have found grace in thy sight, that the Lord would now go with us ( for it is a stiff-necked people) and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for thine inheritance. |
| [10]ויאמר הנה אנכי כרת ברית נגד כל עמך אעשה נפלאת אשר לא נבראו בכל הארץ ובכל הגוים וראה כל העם אשר אתה בקרבו את מעשה יהוה כי נורא הוא אשר אני עשה עמך |
[10]And he answered, Behold, I will make a covenant before all thy people, and will do marvels, such as have not been done in all the world, neither in all nations: and all the people among whom thou art, shall see the work of the Lord: for it is a terrible thing that I will do with thee. |
| [11]שמר לך־את אשר אנכי מצוך היום הנני גרש מפניך את האמרי והכנעני והחתי והפרזי והחוי והיבוסי |
[11]Keep diligently that which I command thee this day: Behold, I will cast out before thee the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites. |
| [12]השמר לך פן תכרת ברית ליושב הארץ אשר אתה בא עליה פן יהיה למוקש בקרבך |
[12]Take heed to thyself, that thou make no compact with the inhabitants of the land whither thou goest, lest they be the cause of ruin among you: |
| [13]כי את מזבחתם תתצון ואת מצבתם תשברון ואת אשריו תכרתון |
[13]But ye shall overthrow their altars, and break their images in pieces, and cut down their groves, |
| [14]כי לא תשתחוה לאל אחר כי יהוה קנא שמו אל קנא הוא |
[14](For thou shalt bow down to none other god, because the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God) |
| [15]פן תכרת ברית ליושב הארץ וזנו אחרי אלהיהם וזבחו לאלהיהם וקרא לך ואכלת מזבחו |
[15]Lest thou make a compact with the inhabitants of the land, and when they go a whoring after their gods, and do sacrifice unto their gods, some man call thee, and thou eat of his sacrifice: |
| [16]ולקחת מבנתיו לבניך וזנו בנתיו אחרי אלהיהן והזנו את בניך אחרי אלהיהן |
[16]And lest thou take of their daughters unto thy sons, and their daughters go a whoring after their gods, and make thy sons go a whoring after their gods. |
| [17]אלהי מסכה לא תעשה לך |
[17]Thou shalt make thee no gods of metal. |
| [18]את חג המצות תשמר־שבעת ימים תאכל מצות אשר צויתך למועד חדש האביב כי בחדש האביב יצאת ממצרים |
[18]The feast of unleavened bread shalt thou keep: seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread, as I commanded thee, in the time of the month of Abib: for in the month of Abib thou camest out of Egypt. |
| [19]כל פטר רחם לי וכל מקנך תזכר פטר שור ושה |
[19]Every male, that first openeth the womb, shall be mine: also all the firstborn of thy flock shall be reckoned mine, both of beeves and sheep. |
| [20]ופטר חמור תפדה בשה ואם לא תפדה וערפתו כל בכור בניך תפדה ולא יראו פני ריקם |
[20]But the first of the ass thou shalt buy out with a lamb: and if thou redeem him not, then thou shalt break his neck: all the firstborn of thy sons shalt thou redeem, and none shall appear before me empty. |
| [21]ששת ימים תעבד וביום השביעי תשבת בחריש ובקציר תשבת |
[21]Six days thou shalt work, and in the seventh day thou shalt rest: both in earing time, and in the harvest thou shalt rest. |
| [22]וחג שבעת תעשה לך בכורי קציר חטים וחג האסיף־תקופת השנה |
[22]Thou shalt also observe the feast of weeks in the time of the first fruits of wheat harvest, and the feast of gathering fruits in the end of the year. |
| [23]שלש פעמים בשנה־יראה כל זכורך את פני האדן יהוה אלהי ישראל |
[23]Thrice in a year shall all your men-children appear before the Lord Jehovah God of Israel. |
| [24]כי אוריש גוים מפניך והרחבתי את גבלך ולא יחמד איש את ארצך בעלתך לראות את פני יהוה אלהיך שלש פעמים בשנה |
[24]For I will cast out the nations before thee, and enlarge thy coasts, so that no man shall desire thy land, when thou shalt come up to appear before the Lord thy God thrice in the year. |
| [25]לא תשחט על חמץ דם זבחי ולא ילין לבקר זבח חג הפסח |
[25]Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leaven, neither shall ought of the sacrifice of the feast of Passover be left unto the morning. |
| [26]ראשית בכורי אדמתך תביא בית יהוה אלהיך לא תבשל גדי בחלב אמו |
[26]The first ripe fruits of thy land thou shalt bring unto the house of the Lord thy God: yet shalt thou not seethe a kid in his mother's milk. |
| [27]ויאמר יהוה אל משה כתב לך את הדברים האלה כי על פי הדברים האלה כרתי אתך ברית־ואת ישראל |
[27]And the Lord said unto Moses, Write thou these words: for after the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with thee and with Israel. |
| [28]ויהי שם עם יהוה ארבעים יום וארבעים לילה־לחם לא אכל ומים לא שתה ויכתב על הלחת את דברי הברית־עשרת הדברים |
[28]So he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights, and did neither eat bread nor drink water: and he wrote in the tables the words of the covenant, even the Ten Commandments. |
| [29]ויהי ברדת משה מהר סיני ושני לחת העדת ביד משה ברדתו מן ההר ומשה לא ידע כי קרן עור פניו־בדברו אתו |
[29]So when Moses came down from mount Sinai, the two tables of the testimony were in Moses' hand, as he descended from the mount: (now Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone bright, after that God had talked with him. |
| [30]וירא אהרן וכל בני ישראל את משה והנה קרן עור פניו וייראו מגשת אליו |
[30]And Aaron and all the children of Israel looked upon Moses, and behold, the skin of his face shone bright, and they were afraid to come near him) |
| [31]ויקרא אלהם משה וישבו אליו אהרן וכל הנשאים בעדה וידבר משה אלהם |
[31]But Moses called them: and Aaron and all the chief of the congregation returned unto him: and Moses talked with them. |
| [32]ואחרי כן נגשו כל בני ישראל ויצום־את כל אשר דבר יהוה אתו בהר סיני |
[32]And afterward all the children of Israel came near, and he charged them with all that the Lord had said unto him in mount Sinai. |
| [33]ויכל משה מדבר אתם ויתן על פניו מסוה |
[33]So Moses made an end of communing with them, and had put a covering upon his face. |
| [34]ובבא משה לפני יהוה לדבר אתו יסיר את המסוה עד צאתו ויצא ודבר אל בני ישראל את אשר יצוה |
[34]But, when Moses came before the Lord to speak with him, he took off the covering until he came out: then he came out, and spake unto the children of Israel that which he was commanded. |
| [35]וראו בני ישראל את פני משה כי קרן עור פני משה והשיב משה את המסוה על פניו עד באו לדבר אתו |
[35]And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, how the skin of Moses' face shone bright: therefore Moses put the covering upon his face, until he went to speak with God. |
