Peshitta (Lamsa, 1933)
Pes(Lam)
[1]Then the Lord said to Moses, Behold, I have made thee Pharaoh's God, and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet. [1]AND the LORD said to Moses, See, I have made you a god to Pharaoh; and Aaron your brother shall be your prophet.
[2]Thou shalt speak all that I commanded thee: and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh, that he suffer the children of Israel to go out of his land. [2]You shall speak all that I command you; and Aaron your brother shall speak to Pharaoh that he send the children of Israel out of his land.
[3]But I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and multiply my miracles and my wonders in the land of Egypt. [3]And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt.
[4]And Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you, that I may lay mine hand upon Egypt, and bring out mine armies, even my people, the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt, by great judgments. [4]But Pharaoh will not hearken to you, that I may smite Egypt, and bring forth my hosts and my people the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by great judgments.
[5]Then the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I stretch forth mine hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them. [5]And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I lift up my hand against Egypt and bring out the children of Israel from among them.
[6]So Moses and Aaron did as the Lord commanded them, even so did they. [6]And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they.
[7](Now Moses was fourscore year old, and Aaron fourscore and three, when they spake unto Pharaoh) [7]And Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three when they spoke to Pharaoh
[8]And the Lord had spoken unto Moses and Aaron, saying, [8]And the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,
[9]If Pharaoh speak unto you, saying, Show a miracle for you, then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh , and it shall be turned into a serpent. [9]If Pharaoh should say to you, Show me a sign; then you shall say to Aaron, Take your staff and cast it down before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent.
[10]Then went Moses and Aaron unto Pharaoh, and did even as the Lord had commanded: and Aaron cast forth his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it was turned into a serpent. [10]So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh, and they did as the LORD had commanded; and Aaron cast down his staff before Pharaoh and before his noblemen, and it became a serpent.
[11]Then Pharaoh called also for the wise men and sorcerers: and those charmers also of Egypt did in like manner with their enchantments, [11]Then Pharaoh called the wise men and the magicians; now the magicians of Egypt, they also did the same with their magic.
[12]For they cast down every man his rod, and they were turned into serpents: but Aaron's rod devoured their rods. [12]For they cast down every man his staff and they became serpents; but Aaron's staff swallowed up their staffs.
[13]So Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he hearkened not to them, as the Lord had said. [13]However Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and would not let them go, as the LORD had said
[14]The Lord then said unto Moses, Pharaoh's heart is obstinate, he refuseth to let the people go. [14]Then the LORD said to Moses, Pharaoh's heart is hardened, he refuses to let the people go.
[15]Go unto Pharaoh in the morning, (lo, he will come unto the water) and thou shalt stand and meet him by the river's brink, and the rod, which was turned into a serpent, shalt thou take in thine hand. [15]Go to Pharaoh in the morning; behold, he goes out to his daily duty; and you stand toward him by the river's brink and wait; and take in your hand the staff which was turned into a serpent.
[16]And thou shalt say unto him, The Lord God of the Hebrews hath sent me unto thee, saying, Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness: and behold, hitherto thou wouldest not hear. [16]And you shall say to him, The LORD God of the Hebrews has sent me to you, saying, Let my people go that they may serve me in the wilderness; and, behold, hitherto you have not listened.
[17]Thus saith the Lord, In this shalt thou know that I am the Lord: behold, I will smite with the rod that is in mine hand upon the water that is in the river, and it shall be turned to blood. [17]Thus says the LORD, By this you shall know that I am the LORD: behold, with the staff that is in my hand I will strike upon the waters of the river, and they shall be turned to blood.
[18]And the fish that is in the river shall die, and the river shall stink, and it shall grieve the Egyptians to drink of the water of the river. [18]And the fish that are in the river shall die, and the river shall stink; and the Egyptians shall loathe to drink of the water of the river.
[19]The Lord then spake to Moses, Say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the waters of Egypt, over their streams, over their rivers, and over their ponds, and over all pools of their waters, and they shall be blood, and there shall be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood, and of stone. [19]And the LORD said to Moses, Say to Aaron, Take your staff and lift up your hand upon the waters of Egypt, upon their rivers, upon their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, and upon the streams, and they shall become blood; and there shall be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, in both vessels of wood and vessels of stone.
[20]So Moses and Aaron did even as the Lord commanded: and he lift up the rod, and smote the water that was in the river in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants: and all the water that was in the river, was turned into blood. [20]And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD had commanded them; and Aaron lifted up the staff which was in his hand and smote the waters of the river, in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned into blood.
[21]And the fish that was in the river died, and the river stank: so that the Egyptians could not drink of the water of the river: and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt. [21]And the fish that were in the river died; and the river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink the water of the river; and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt.
[22]And the enchanters of Egypt did likewise with their sorceries: and the heart of Pharaoh was hardened: so that he did not hearken unto them, as the Lord had said. [22]And the magicians of Egypt did the same by their enchantments; but Pharaoh's heart was hardened and he did not listen to them, as the LORD had said.
[23]Then Pharaoh returned, and went again into his house, neither did this yet enter into his heart. [23]And Pharaoh turned and went into his house, and he did not take to heart even this sign.
[24]All the Egyptians then digged round about the river for waters to drink: for they could not drink of the water of the river. [24]And all the Egyptians dug round about the river for water to drink; for they could not drink of the water of the river.
[25]And this continued fully seven days after the Lord had smitten the river. [25]And seven days passed after the LORD had smitten the river
