| [1]וַיְהִי בִּשְׁלֹשִׁים שָׁנָה בָּרְבִיעִי בַּחֲמִשָּׁה לַחֹדֶשׁ וַאֲנִי בְתֹוךְ־הַגֹּולָה עַל־נְהַר־כְּבָר נִפְתְּחוּ הַשָּׁמַיִם וָאֶרְאֶה מַרְאֹות אֱלֹהִים׃ |
[1]It came to pass in the thirtieth year in the fourth month, and in the fifth day of the month (as I was among the captives by the river Chebar) that the heavens were opened and I saw visions of God. |
| [2]בַּחֲמִשָּׁה לַחֹדֶשׁ הִיא הַשָּׁנָה הַחֲמִישִׁית לְגָלוּת הַמֶּלֶךְ יֹויָכִין׃ |
[2]In the fifth day of the month (which was the fifth year of king Jehoiachin's captivity) |
| [3]הָיֹה הָיָה דְבַר־יְהוָה אֶל־יְחֶזְקֵאל בֶּן־בּוּזִי הַכֹּהֵן בְּאֶרֶץ כַּשְׂדִּים עַל־נְהַר־כְּבָר וַתְּהִי עָלָיו שָׁם יַד־יְהוָה׃ |
[3]The word of the Lord came unto Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans, by the river Chebar, where the hand of the Lord was upon him. |
| [4]וָאֵרֶא וְהִנֵּה רוּחַ סְעָרָה בָּאָה מִן־הַצָּפֹון עָןָן גָּדֹול וְאֵשׁ מִתְלַקַּחַת וְנֹגַהּ לֹו סָבִיב וּמִתֹּוכָהּ כְּעֵין הַחַשְׁמַל מִתֹּוךְ הָאֵשׁ׃ |
[4]And I looked, and behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud and a fire wrapped about it, and a brightness was about it, and in the midst thereof, to wit, in the midst of the fire came out as the likeness of amber. |
| [5]וּמִתֹּוכָהּ דְּמוּת אַרְבַּע חַיֹּות וְזֶה מַרְאֵיהֶן דְּמוּת אָדָם לָהֵנָּה׃ |
[5]Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four beasts, and this was their form: they had the appearance of a man. |
| [6]וְאַרְבָּעָה פָנִים לְאֶחָת וְאַרְבַּע כְּנָפַיִם לְאַחַת לָהֶם׃ |
[6]And every one had four faces, and every one had four wings. |
| [7]וְרַגְלֵיהֶם רֶגֶל יְשָׁרָה וְכַף רַגְלֵיהֶם כְּכַף רֶגֶל עֵגֶל וְנֹצְצִים כְּעֵין נְחֹשֶׁת קָלָל׃ |
[7]And their feet were straight feet, and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a calves' foot, and they sparkled like the appearance of bright brass. |
| [8]וְיָדֹו [Q: וִידֵי] אָדָם מִתַּחַת כַּנְפֵיהֶם עַל אַרְבַּעַת רִבְעֵיהֶם וּפְנֵיהֶם וְכַנְפֵיהֶם לְאַרְבַּעְתָּם׃ |
[8]And the hands of a man came out from under their wings in the four parts of them, and they four had their faces, and their wings. |
| [9]חֹבְרֹת אִשָּׁה אֶל־אֲחֹותָהּ כַּנְפֵיהֶם לֹא־יִסַּבּוּ בְלֶכְתָּן אִישׁ אֶל־עֵבֶר פָּנָיו יֵלֵכוּ׃ |
[9]They where joined by their wings one to another, and when they went forth, they returned not, but every one went straight forward. |
| [10]וּדְמוּת פְּנֵיהֶם פְּנֵי אָדָם וּפְנֵי אַרְיֵה אֶל־הַיָּמִין לְאַרְבַּעְתָּם וּפְנֵי־שֹׁור מֵהַשְּׂמֹאול לְאַרְבַּעְתָּן וּפְנֵי־נֶשֶׁר לְאַרְבַּעְתָּן׃ |
[10]And the similitude of their faces was as the face of a man: and they four had the face of a lion on the right side, and they four had the face of a bullock on the left side: they four also had the face of an eagle. |
| [11]וּפְנֵיהֶם וְכַנְפֵיהֶם פְּרֻדֹות מִלְמָעְלָה לְאִישׁ שְׁתַּיִם חֹבְרֹות אִישׁ וּשְׁתַּיִם מְכַסֹּות אֵת גְּוִיֹתֵיהֶנָה׃ |
[11]Thus were their faces: but their wings were spread out above: two wings of every one were joined one to another, and two covered their bodies. |
| [12]וְאִישׁ אֶל־עֵבֶר פָּנָיו יֵלֵכוּ אֶל אֲשֶׁר יִהְיֶה־שָׁמָּה הָרוּחַ לָלֶכֶת יֵלֵכוּ לֹא יִסַּבּוּ בְּלֶכְתָּן׃ |
[12]And everyone went straight forward: they went whither their spirit led them, and they returned not when they went forth. |
| [13]וּדְמוּת הַחַיֹּות מַרְאֵיהֶם כְּגַחֲלֵי־אֵשׁ בֹּעֲרֹות כְּמַרְאֵה הַלַּפִּדִים הִיא מִתְהַלֶּכֶת בֵּין הַחַיֹּות וְנֹגַהּ לָאֵשׁ וּמִן־הָאֵשׁ יֹוצֵא בָרָק׃ |
[13]The similitude also of the beasts, and their appearance was like burning coals of fire, and like the appearance of lamps: for the fire ran among the beasts, and the fire gave a glister, and out of the fire there went lightning. |
| [14]וְהַחַיֹּות רָצֹוא וָשֹׁוב כְּמַרְאֵה הַבָּזָק׃ |
[14]And the beasts ran, and returned like unto lightning. |
| [15]וָאֵרֶא הַחַיֹּות וְהִנֵּה אֹופַן אֶחָד בָּאָרֶץ אֵצֶל הַחַיֹּות לְאַרְבַּעַת פָּנָיו׃ |
[15]Now as I beheld the beasts, behold, a wheel appeared upon the earth by the beasts, having four faces. |
| [16]מַרְאֵה הָאֹופַנִּים וּמַעֲשֵׂיהֶם כְּעֵין תַּרְשִׁישׁ וּדְמוּת אֶחָד לְאַרְבַּעְתָּן וּמַרְאֵיהֶם וּמַעֲשֵׂיהֶם כַּאֲשֶׁר יִהְיֶה הָאֹופַן בְּתֹוךְ הָאֹופָן׃ |
[16]The fashion of the wheels and their work was like unto a chrysolite: and they four had one form, and their fashion, and their work was as one wheel in another wheel. |
| [17]עַל־אַרְבַּעַת רִבְעֵיהֶן בְּלֶכְתָּם יֵלֵכוּ לֹא יִסַּבּוּ בְּלֶכְתָּן׃ |
[17]When they went, they went upon their four sides, and they returned not when they went. |
| [18]וְגַבֵּיהֶן וְגֹבַהּ לָהֶם וְיִרְאָה לָהֶם וְגַבֹּתָם מְלֵאֹת עֵינַיִם סָבִיב לְאַרְבַּעְתָּן׃ |
[18]They had also rings, and height, and were fearful to behold, and their rings were full of eyes, round about them four. |
| [19]וּבְלֶכֶת הַחַיֹּות יֵלְכוּ הָאֹופַנִּים אֶצְלָם וּבְהִנָּשֵׂא הַחַיֹּות מֵעַל הָאָרֶץ יִנָּשְׂאוּ הָאֹופַנִּים׃ |
[19]And when the beasts went, the wheels went with them: and when the beasts were lift up from the earth, the wheels were lift up. |
| [20]עַל אֲשֶׁר יִהְיֶה־שָּׁם הָרוּחַ לָלֶכֶת יֵלֵכוּ שָׁמָּה הָרוּחַ לָלֶכֶת וְהָאֹופַנִּים יִנָּשְׂאוּ לְעֻמָּתָם כִּי רוּחַ הַחַיָּה בָּאֹופַנִּים׃ |
[20]Whither the spirit led them, they went, and thither did the spirit of the wheels lead them, and the wheels were lifted up besides them: for the spirit of the beasts was in the wheels. |
| [21]בְּלֶכְתָּם יֵלֵכוּ וּבְעָמְדָם יַעֲמֹדוּ וּבְהִנָּשְׂאָם מֵעַל הָאָרֶץ יִנָּשְׂאוּ הָאֹופַנִּים לְעֻמָּתָם כִּי רוּחַ הַחַיָּה בָּאֹופַנִּים׃ |
[21]When the beasts went, they went, and when they stood, they stood, and when they were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up besides them: for the spirit of the beasts was in the wheels. |
| [22]וּדְמוּת עַל־רָאשֵׁי הַחַיָּה רָקִיעַ כְּעֵין הַקֶּרַח הַנֹּורָא נָטוּי עַל־רָאשֵׁיהֶם מִלְמָעְלָה׃ |
[22]And the similitude of the firmament upon the heads of the beasts was wonderful, like unto crystal, spread over their heads above. |
| [23]וְתַחַת הָרָקִיעַ כַּנְפֵיהֶם יְשָׁרֹות אִשָּׁה אֶל־אֲחֹותָהּ לְאִישׁ שְׁתַּיִם מְכַסֹּות לָהֵנָּה וּלְאִישׁ שְׁתַּיִם מְכַסֹּות לָהֵנָּה אֵת גְּוִיֹּתֵיהֶם׃ |
[23]And under the firmament were their wings straight, the one toward the other: every one had two, which covered them, and every one had two, which covered their bodies. |
| [24]וָאֶשְׁמַע אֶת־קֹול כַּנְפֵיהֶם כְּקֹול מַיִם רַבִּים כְּקֹול־שַׁדַּי בְּלֶכְתָּם קֹול הֲמֻלָּה כְּקֹול מַחֲנֶה בְּעָמְדָם תְּרַפֶּינָה כַנְפֵיהֶן׃ |
[24]And when they went forth, I heard the noise of their wings, like the noise of great waters, and as the voice of the Almighty, even the voice of speech, as the noise of an host: and when they stood, they let down their wings. |
| [25]וַיְהִי־קֹול מֵעַל לָרָקִיעַ אֲשֶׁר עַל־רֹאשָׁם בְּעָמְדָם תְּרַפֶּינָה כַנְפֵיהֶן׃ |
[25]And there was a voice from the firmament that was over their heads, when they stood, and had let down their wings. |
| [26]וּמִמַּעַל לָרָקִיעַ אֲשֶׁר עַל־רֹאשָׁם כְּמַרְאֵה אֶבֶן־סַפִּיר דְּמוּת כִּסֵּא וְעַל דְּמוּת הַכִּסֵּא דְּמוּת כְּמַרְאֵה אָדָם עָלָיו מִלְמָעְלָה׃ |
[26]And above the firmament that was over their heads, was the fashion of a throne like unto a sapphire stone, and upon the similitude of the throne was by appearance, as the similitude of a man above upon it. |
| [27]וָאֵרֶא כְּעֵין חַשְׁמַל כְּמַרְאֵה־אֵשׁ בֵּית־לָהּ סָבִיב מִמַּרְאֵה מָתְנָיו וּלְמָעְלָה וּמִמַּרְאֵה מָתְנָיו וּלְמַטָּה רָאִיתִי כְּמַרְאֵה־אֵשׁ וְנֹגַהּ לֹו סָבִיב׃ |
[27]And I saw as the appearance of amber, and as the similitude of fire round about within it to look to, even from his loins upward: and to look to, even from his loins downward, I saw as a likeness of fire, and brightness round about it. |
| [28]כְּמַרְאֵה הַקֶּשֶׁת אֲשֶׁר יִהְיֶה בֶעָןָן בְּיֹום הַגֶּשֶׁם כֵּן מַרְאֵה הַנֹּגַהּ סָבִיב הוּא מַרְאֵה דְּמוּת כְּבֹוד־יְהוָה וָאֶרְאֶה וָאֶפֹּל עַל־פָּנַי וָאֶשְׁמַע קֹול מְדַבֵּר׃ |
[28]As the likeness of the bow, that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the light round about. |

[29]This was the appearance of the similitude of the glory of the Lord: and when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake. |
