[1]Then came certain of the elders of Israel to me, and sat before me. |
| [2]And the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 came unto me, sayingH559,[H8800] |
[2]And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, |
| [3]SonH1121 of manH120, these menH582 have set upH5927[H8689] their idolsH1544 in their heartH3820, and putH5414[H8804] the stumblingblockH4383 of their iniquityH5771 beforeH5227 their faceH6440: should I be enquiredH1875[H8735] of at allH1875 by themH8736? |
[3]Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumbling-block of their iniquity before their face: should I be inquired of at all by them? |
| [4]Therefore speakH1696[H8761] unto them, and sayH559[H8804] unto them, Thus saithH559[H8804] the LordH136 GODH3069; Every manH376 of the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 that setteth upH5927[H8686] his idolsH1544 in his heartH3820, and puttethH7760[H8799] the stumblingblockH4383 of his iniquityH5771 beforeH5227 his faceH6440, and comethH935[H8804] to the prophetH5030; I the LORDH3068 will answerH6030[H8738] him that comethH935[H8804] according to the multitudeH7230 of his idolsH1544; |
[4]Therefore speak to them, and say to them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumbling-block of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols; |
| [5]That I may takeH8610[H8800] the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 in their own heartH3820, because they are all estrangedH2114[H8738] from me through their idolsH1544. |
[5]That I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols. |
| [6]Therefore sayH559[H8798] unto the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, Thus saithH559[H8804] the LordH136 GODH3069; RepentH7725[H8798], and turnH7725[H8685] yourselves from your idolsH1544; and turn awayH7725[H8685] your facesH6440 from all your abominationsH8441. |
[6]Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations. |
| [7]For every oneH376 of the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, or of the strangerH1616 that sojournethH1481[H8799] in IsraelH3478, which separatethH5144[H8735] himself from meH310, and setteth upH5927[H8799] his idolsH1544 in his heartH3820, and puttethH7760[H8799] the stumblingblockH4383 of his iniquityH5771 beforeH5227 his faceH6440, and comethH935[H8804] to a prophetH5030 to enquireH1875[H8800] of him concerning me; I the LORDH3068 will answerH6030 him by myselfH8737: |
[7]For every one of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, who separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumbling-block of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to a prophet to inquire of him concerning me; I the LORD will answer him by myself: |
| [8]And I will setH5414[H8804] my faceH6440 against that manH376, and will makeH8074[H8689] him a signH226 and a proverbH4912, and I will cut him offH3772[H8689] from the midstH8432 of my peopleH5971; and ye shall knowH3045[H8804] that I am the LORDH3068. |
[8]And I will set my face against that man, and will make him a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and ye shall know that I am the LORD. |
| [9]And if the prophetH5030 be deceivedH6601[H8792] when he hath spokenH1696[H8765] a thingH1697, I the LORDH3068 have deceivedH6601[H8765] that prophetH5030, and I will stretch outH5186[H8804] my handH3027 upon him, and will destroyH8045[H8689] him from the midstH8432 of my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478. |
[9]And if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the LORD have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel. |
| [10]And they shall bearH5375[H8804] the punishment of their iniquityH5771: the punishmentH5771 of the prophetH5030 shall be even as the punishmentH5771 of him that seekethH1875 unto himH8802; |
[10]And they shall bear the punishment of their iniquity: the punishment of the prophet shall be even as the punishment of him that seeketh to him; |
| [11]That the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 may go no more astrayH8582[H8799] from meH310, neither be pollutedH2930[H8691] any more with all their transgressionsH6588; but that they may be my peopleH5971, and I may be their GodH430, saithH5002[H8803] the LordH136 GODH3069. |
[11]That the house of Israel may no more go astray from me, neither be polluted any more with all their transgressions; but that they may be my people, and I may be their God, saith the Lord GOD. |
| [12]The wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 came again to me, sayingH559,[H8800] |
[12]The word of the LORD came again to me, saying, |
| [13]SonH1121 of manH120, when the landH776 sinnethH2398[H8799] against me by trespassingH4603[H8800] grievouslyH4604, then will I stretch outH5186[H8804] mine handH3027 upon it, and will breakH7665[H8804] the staffH4294 of the breadH3899 thereof, and will sendH7971[H8689] famineH7458 upon it, and will cut offH3772[H8689] manH120 and beast from itH929: |
[13]Son of man, when the land sinneth against me by trespassing grievously, then will I stretch out my hand upon it, and will break the staff of the bread thereof, and will send famine upon it, and will cut off man and beast from it: |
| [14]Though these threeH7969 menH582, NoahH5146, DanielH1840, and JobH347, were in itH8432, they should deliverH5337[H8762] but their own soulsH5315 by their righteousnessH6666, saithH5002[H8803] the LordH136 GODH3069. |
[14]Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver their own souls only by their righteousness, saith the Lord GOD. |
| [15]IfH3863 I cause noisomeH7451 beastsH2416 to pass throughH5674[H8686] the landH776, and they spoilH7921[H8765] it, so that it be desolateH8077, that no man may pass throughH5674[H8802] becauseH6440 of the beastsH2416: |
[15]If I cause noisome beasts to pass through the land, and they lay it waste, so that it be desolate, that no man may pass through because of the beasts: |
| [16]Though these threeH7969 menH582 were in itH8432, as I liveH2416, saithH5002[H8803] the LordH136 GODH3069, they shall deliverH5337[H8686] neither sonsH1121 nor daughtersH1323; they only shall be deliveredH5337[H8735], but the landH776 shall be desolateH8077. |
[16]Though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters; they only shall be delivered, but the land shall be desolate. |
| [17]Or if I bringH935[H8686] a swordH2719 upon that landH776, and sayH559[H8804], SwordH2719, go throughH5674[H8799] the landH776; so that I cut offH3772[H8689] manH120 and beast from itH929: |
[17]Or if I bring a sword upon that land, and say, Sword, go through the land; so that I cut off man and beast from it: |
| [18]Though these threeH7969 menH582 were in itH8432, as I liveH2416, saithH5002[H8803] the LordH136 GODH3069, they shall deliverH5337[H8686] neither sonsH1121 nor daughtersH1323, but they only shall be deliveredH5337 themselvesH8735. |
[18]Though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they only shall be delivered themselves. |
| [19]Or if I sendH7971[H8762] a pestilenceH1698 into that landH776, and pour outH8210[H8804] my furyH2534 upon it in bloodH1818, to cut offH3772[H8687] from it manH120 and beastH929: |
[19]Or if I send a pestilence into that land, and pour out my fury upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast: |
| [20]Though NoahH5146, DanielH1840, and JobH347, were in itH8432, as I liveH2416, saithH5002[H8803] the LordH136 GODH3069, they shall deliverH5337[H8686] neither sonH1121 norH518 daughterH1323; they shall but deliverH5337[H8686] their own soulsH5315 by their righteousnessH6666. |
[20]Though Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall deliver their own souls only by their righteousness. |
| [21]For thus saithH559[H8804] the LordH136 GODH3069; How much more when I sendH7971[H8765] my fourH702 soreH7451 judgmentsH8201 upon JerusalemH3389, the swordH2719, and the famineH7458, and the noisomeH7451 beastH2416, and the pestilenceH1698, to cut offH3772[H8687] from it manH120 and beastH929? |
[21]For thus saith the Lord GOD; How much more when I send my four severe judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the noisome beast, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast? |
| [22]Yet, behold, therein shall be leftH3498[H8738] a remnantH6413 that shall be brought forthH3318[H8716], both sonsH1121 and daughtersH1323: behold, they shall come forthH3318[H8802] unto you, and ye shall seeH7200[H8804] their wayH1870 and their doingsH5949: and ye shall be comfortedH5162[H8738] concerning the evilH7451 that I have broughtH935[H8689] upon JerusalemH3389, even concerning all that I have broughtH935 upon itH8689. |
[22]Yet behold, therein shall be left a remnant that shall be brought forth, both sons and daughters: behold, they shall come forth to you, and ye shall see their way and their doings: and ye shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon it. |

[23]And they shall comfort you, when ye see their ways and their doings: and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, saith the Lord GOD. |
