[2]and he seide, Thou, sone of man, speke to the sones of thi puple, and thou schalt seie to hem, A lond whanne Y bringe in a swerd on it, and the puple of the lond takith o man of hise laste men, and makith hym aspiere on hym, |
| [3]If when he seethH7200[H8804] the swordH2719 comeH935[H8802] upon the landH776, he blowH8628[H8804] the trumpetH7782, and warnH2094[H8689] the peopleH5971; |
[3]and he seeth a swerd comynge on the lond, and sowneth with a clarioun, and tellith to the puple, |
| [4]Then whosoeverH8085[H8802] hearethH8085[H8804] the soundH6963 of the trumpetH7782, and taketh not warningH2094[H8737]; if the swordH2719 comeH935[H8799], and take him awayH3947[H8799], his bloodH1818 shall be upon his own headH7218. |
[4]forsothe a man that herith, who euer he is, the sowne of the clarioun, and kepith not him silf, and the swerd cometh, and takith hym awei, the blood of hym schal be on the heed of hym. |
| [5]He heardH8085[H8804] the soundH6963 of the trumpetH7782, and took not warningH2094[H8737]; his bloodH1818 shall be upon him. But he that taketh warningH2094[H8737] shall deliverH4422[H8765] his soulH5315. |
[5]He herde the sown of the clarioun, and kepte not hym silf, his blood schal be in hym; forsothe if he kepith hym silf, he schal saue his lijf. |
| [6]But if the watchmanH6822[H8802] seeH7200[H8799] the swordH2719 comeH935[H8802], and blowH8628[H8804] not the trumpetH7782, and the peopleH5971 be not warnedH2094[H8737]; if the swordH2719 comeH935[H8799], and takeH3947[H8799] any personH5315 from among them, he is taken awayH3947[H8738] in his iniquityH5771; but his bloodH1818 will I requireH1875[H8799] at the watchman'sH6822[H8802] handH3027. |
[6]That if the aspiere seeth a swerd comynge, and sowneth not with a clarioun, and the puple kepith not hym silf, and the swerd cometh, and takith awei a man of hem, sotheli he is takun in his wickidnesse; but Y schal seke the blood of hym of the hond of the aspiere. |
| [7]So thou, O sonH1121 of manH120, I have setH5414[H8804] thee a watchmanH6822[H8802] unto the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478; therefore thou shalt hearH8085[H8804] the wordH1697 at my mouthH6310, and warnH2094 them from meH8689. |
[7]And, thou, sone of man, Y yaf thee aspiere to the hous of Israel; therfor thou schalt here of my mouth a word, and schalt telle to hem of me. |
| [8]When I sayH559[H8800] unto the wickedH7563, O wickedH7563 man, thou shalt surelyH4191[H8800] dieH4191[H8799]; if thou dost not speakH1696[H8765] to warnH2094[H8687] the wickedH7563 from his wayH1870, that wickedH7563 man shall dieH4191[H8799] in his iniquityH5771; but his bloodH1818 will I requireH1245[H8762] at thine handH3027. |
[8]If whanne Y seie to the wickid man, Thou, wickid man, schalt die bi deth, thou spekist not, that the wickid man kepe hym silf fro his weie, thilke wickid man schal die in his wickidnesse, but Y schal seke his blood of thin hond. |
| [9]Nevertheless, if thou warnH2094[H8689] the wickedH7563 of his wayH1870 to turnH7725[H8800] from it; if he do not turnH7725[H8804] from his wayH1870, he shall dieH4191[H8799] in his iniquityH5771; but thou hast deliveredH5337[H8689] thy soulH5315. |
[9]Forsothe if whanne thou tellist to the wickid man, that he be conuertid fro his weies, he is not conuertid fro his weie, he schal die in his wickidnesse; certis thou hast delyuered thi soule. |
| [10]Therefore, O thou sonH1121 of manH120, speakH559[H8798] unto the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478; Thus ye speakH559[H8804], sayingH559[H8800], If our transgressionsH6588 and our sinsH2403 be upon us, and we pine awayH4743[H8737] in them, how should we then liveH2421?[H8799] |
[10]Therfore thou, sone of man, seie to the hous of Israel, Thus ye spaken, seiynge, Oure wickidnessis and oure synnes ben on vs, and we failen in tho; hou therfor moun we lyue? seie thou to hem, |
| [11]SayH559[H8798] unto them, As I liveH2416, saithH5002[H8803] the LordH136 GODH3069, I have no pleasureH2654[H8799] in the deathH4194 of the wickedH7563; but that the wickedH7563 turnH7725[H8800] from his wayH1870 and liveH2421[H8804]: turnH7725[H8798] ye, turnH7725[H8798] ye from your evilH7451 waysH1870; for why will ye dieH4191[H8799], O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478? |
[11]Y lyue, seith the Lord God, Y nyle the deth of the wickid man, but that the wickid man be conuertid fro his weie, and lyue; be ye conuertid fro youre worste weies, and whi schulen ye die, the hous of Israel? |
| [12]Therefore, thou sonH1121 of manH120, sayH559[H8798] unto the childrenH1121 of thy peopleH5971, The righteousnessH6666 of the righteousH6662 shall not deliverH5337[H8686] him in the dayH3117 of his transgressionH6588: as for the wickednessH7564 of the wickedH7563, he shall not fallH3782[H8735] thereby in the dayH3117 that he turnethH7725[H8800] from his wickednessH7562; neither shall the righteousH6662 be ableH3201[H8799] to liveH2421[H8800] for his righteousness in the dayH3117 that he sinnethH2398.[H8800] |
[12]Therfor thou, sone of man, seie to the sones of thi puple, The riytfulnesse of a riytful man schal not delyuere hym, in whateuer dai he doith synne; and the wickidnesse of a wickid man schal not anoye him, in what euere dai he is conuertid fro his wickidnesse; and a iust man schal not mowe lyue in his riytfulnesse, in what euer dai he doith synne. |
| [13]When I shall sayH559[H8800] to the righteousH6662, that he shall surelyH2421[H8800] liveH2421[H8799]; if he trustH982[H8804] to his own righteousnessH6666, and commitH6213[H8804] iniquityH5766, all his righteousnessesH6666 shall not be rememberedH2142[H8735]; but for his iniquityH5766 that he hath committedH6213[H8804], he shall dieH4191 for itH8799. |
[13]Also if Y seie to a iust man, that he schal lyue bi lijf, and he tristith in his riytfulnesse, and doith wickidnesse, alle his riytfulnessis schulen be youun to foryetyng, and in his wickidnesse which he wrouyte, in that he schal die. |
| [14]Again, when I sayH559[H8800] unto the wickedH7563, Thou shalt surelyH4191[H8800] dieH4191[H8799]; if he turnH7725[H8804] from his sinH2403, and doH6213[H8804] that which is lawfulH4941 and rightH6666; |
[14]Forsothe if Y seie to the wickid man, Thou schalt die bi deth, and he doith penaunce for his synne, and doith dom and riytfulnesse, |
| [15]If the wickedH7563 restoreH7725[H8686] the pledgeH2258, give againH7999[H8762] that he had robbedH1500, walkH1980[H8804] in the statutesH2708 of lifeH2416, without committingH6213[H8800] iniquityH5766; he shall surelyH2421[H8800] liveH2421[H8799], he shall not dieH4191.[H8799] |
[15]and if thilke wickid man restorith a wed, and yeldith raueyn, and goith in comaundementis of lijf, and doith not ony vniust thing, he schal lyue bi lijf, and schal not die. |
| [16]None of his sinsH2403 that he hath committedH2398[H8804] shall be mentionedH2142[H8735] unto him: he hath doneH6213[H8804] that which is lawfulH4941 and rightH6666; he shall surelyH2421[H8800] liveH2421.[H8799] |
[16]Alle hise synnes which he synnede, schulen not be arettid to hym; he dide doom and riytfulnesse, he schal lyue bi lijf. |
| [17]Yet the childrenH1121 of thy peopleH5971 sayH559[H8804], The wayH1870 of the LordH136 is not equalH8505[H8735]: but as for them, their wayH1870 is not equalH8505.[H8735] |
[17]And the sones of thi puple seiden, The weie of the Lord is not euene weiyte; and the weie of hem is vniust. |
| [18]When the righteousH6662 turnethH7725[H8800] from his righteousnessH6666, and committethH6213[H8804] iniquityH5766, he shall even dieH4191 therebyH8804. |
[18]For whanne a iust man goith awei fro his riytfulnesse, and doith wickidnessis, he schal die in tho; |
| [19]But if the wickedH7563 turnH7725[H8800] from his wickednessH7564, and doH6213[H8804] that which is lawfulH4941 and rightH6666, he shall liveH2421 therebyH8799. |
[19]and whanne a wickid man goith awei fro his wickidnesse, and doith dom and riytfulnes, he schal lyue in tho. |
| [20]Yet ye sayH559[H8804], The wayH1870 of the LordH136 is not equalH8505[H8735]. O ye houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, I will judgeH8199[H8799] you every oneH376 after his waysH1870. |
[20]And ye seien, The weie of the Lord is not riytful. Y schal deme ech man bi hise weies of you, the hous of Israel. |
| [21]And it came to pass in the twelfthH8147[H6240] yearH8141 of our captivityH1546, in the tenthH6224 month, in the fifthH2568 day of the monthH2320, that one that had escapedH6412 out of JerusalemH3389 cameH935[H8804] unto me, sayingH559[H8800], The cityH5892 is smittenH5221.[H8717] |
[21]And it was doon in the tweluethe yeer, in the tenthe monethe, in the fyuethe dai of the monethe of our passyng ouer, he that fledde fro Jerusalem cam to me, and seide, The citee is distried. |
| [22]Now the handH3027 of the LORDH3068 was upon me in the eveningH6153, aforeH6440 he that was escapedH6412 cameH935[H8800]; and had openedH6605[H8799] my mouthH6310, until he cameH935[H8800] to me in the morningH1242; and my mouthH6310 was openedH6605[H8735], and I was no more dumbH481.[H8738] |
[22]Forsothe the hond of the Lord was maad to me in the euentid, bifore that he cam that fledde, and he openyde my mouth, til he cam to me eerli; and whanne my mouth was openyd, Y was no more stille. |

[23]And the word of the Lord was maad to me, and he seide, |
| [24]SonH1121 of manH120, they that inhabitH3427[H8802] those wastesH2723 of the landH127 of IsraelH3478 speakH559[H8802], sayingH559[H8800], AbrahamH85 was oneH259, and he inheritedH3423[H8799] the landH776: but we are manyH7227; the landH776 is givenH5414[H8738] us for inheritanceH4181. |
[24]Thou, sone of man, thei that dwellen in `thingis in poynt to falle doun on the erthe of Israel, seien, spekynge, Abraham was oon, and bi eritage he hadde the lond in possessioun; forsothe we ben manye, the lond is youun to vs in to possessioun. |
| [25]Wherefore sayH559[H8798] unto them, Thus saithH559[H8804] the LordH136 GODH3069; Ye eatH398[H8799] with the bloodH1818, and lift upH5375[H8799] your eyesH5869 toward your idolsH1544, and shedH8210[H8799] bloodH1818: and shall ye possessH3423[H8799] the landH776? |
[25]Therfor thou schalt seie to hem, The Lord God seith these thingis, Whether ye that eten in blood, and reisen youre iyen to youre vnclennessis, and scheden blood, schulen haue in possessioun the lond bi eritage? |
| [26]Ye standH5975[H8804] upon your swordH2719, ye workH6213[H8804] abominationH8441, and ye defileH2930[H8765] every oneH376 his neighbour'sH7453 wifeH802: and shall ye possessH3423[H8799] the landH776? |
[26]Ye stoden in youre swerdis, ye diden youre abhomynaciouns, and ech man defoulide the wijf of his neiybore; and schulen ye welde the lond bi eritage? |
| [27]SayH559[H8799] thou thus unto them, Thus saithH559[H8804] the LordH136 GODH3069; As I liveH2416, surely they that are in the wastesH2723 shall fallH5307[H8799] by the swordH2719, and him that is in the openH6440 fieldH7704 will I giveH5414[H8804] to the beastsH2416 to be devouredH398[H8800], and they that be in the fortsH4679 and in the cavesH4631 shall dieH4191[H8799] of the pestilenceH1698. |
[27]Thou schalt seie these thingis to hem, Thus seith the Lord God, Y lyue, for thei that dwellen in `thingis redi to falle doun, schulen falle doun bi swerd, and he that is in the feld, schal be youun to beestis to be deuourid; but thei that ben in stronge holdis and in dennes, schulen die bi pestilence. |
| [28]For I will layH5414[H8804] the landH776 mostH4923 desolateH8077, and the pompH1347 of her strengthH5797 shall ceaseH7673[H8738]; and the mountainsH2022 of IsraelH3478 shall be desolateH8074[H8804], that none shall pass throughH5674.[H8802] |
[28]And Y schal yyue the lond in to wildirnesse, and in to desert, and the pryde and strengthe therof schal faile; and the hillis of Israel schulen be maad desolat, for noon is that schal passe bi tho. |
| [29]Then shall they knowH3045[H8804] that I am the LORDH3068, when I have laidH5414[H8800] the landH776 mostH4923 desolateH8077 because of all their abominationsH8441 which they have committedH6213.[H8804] |
[29]And thei schulen wite, that Y am the Lord, whanne Y schal yyue her lond desolat and desert, for alle her abhomynaciouns whiche thei wrouyten. |
| [30]Also, thou sonH1121 of manH120, the childrenH1121 of thy peopleH5971 still are talkingH1696[H8737] againstH681 thee by the wallsH7023 and in the doorsH6607 of the housesH1004, and speakH1696[H8765] oneH2297 to anotherH259, every oneH376 to his brotherH251, sayingH559[H8800], ComeH935[H8798], I pray you, and hearH8085[H8798] what is the wordH1697 that cometh forthH3318[H8802] from the LORDH3068. |
[30]And thou, sone of man, the sones of thi puple that speken of thee bisidis wallis, and in the doris of housis, and seien, oon to an other, a man to his neiybore, and speken, Come ye, and here we, what is the word goynge out fro the Lord; |
| [31]And they comeH935[H8799] unto thee as the peopleH5971 comethH3996, and they sitH3427[H8799] beforeH6440 thee as my peopleH5971, and they hearH8085[H8804] thy wordsH1697, but they will not doH6213[H8799] them: for with their mouthH6310 they shewH6213[H8802] much loveH5690, but their heartH3820 goethH1980[H8802] afterH310 their covetousnessH1215. |
[31]and thei comen to thee, as if my puple entrith, and my puple sitten bifore thee, and thei heren thi wordis, and doon not tho; for thei turnen tho in to the song of her mouth, and her herte sueth her auerice; |
| [32]And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovelyH5690 songH7892 of one that hath a pleasantH3303 voiceH6963, and can play wellH2895[H8688] on an instrumentH5059[H8763]: for they hearH8085[H8804] thy wordsH1697, but they doH6213 them notH8802. |
[32]and it is to hem as a song of musik, which is songun bi soft and swete sown; and thei heren thi wordis, and thei doon not tho; |
| [33]And when this cometh to passH935[H8800], (lo, it will comeH935[H8802],) then shall they knowH3045[H8804] that a prophetH5030 hath been among themH8432. |
[33]and whanne that that is bifore seide cometh, for lo! it cometh, thanne thei schulen wite, that `profetis weren among hem. |
