[1]And when the seventh month was come, and the children of Israel were in their cities, the people assembled themselves as one man unto Jerusalem. |
| [2]Then stood upH6965[H8799] JeshuaH3442 the sonH1121 of JozadakH3136, and his brethrenH251 the priestsH3548, and ZerubbabelH2216 the sonH1121 of ShealtielH7597, and his brethrenH251, and buildedH1129[H8799] the altarH4196 of the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, to offerH5927[H8687] burnt offeringsH5930 thereon, as it is writtenH3789[H8803] in the lawH8451 of MosesH4872 the manH376 of GodH430. |
[2]Then stood up Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brethren the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and his brethren, and builded the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings thereon, as it is written in the law of Moses the man of God, |
| [3]And they setH3559[H8686] the altarH4196 upon his basesH4350; for fearH367 was upon them because of the peopleH5971 of those countriesH776: and they offeredH5927[H8686] burnt offeringsH5930 thereon unto the LORDH3068, even burnt offeringsH5930 morningH1242 and eveningH6153. |
[3]And they set the altar upon his bases (for fear was among them, because of the people of those countries) therefore they offered burnt offerings thereon unto the Lord, even burnt offerings in the morning, and at even. |
| [4]They keptH6213[H8799] also the feastH2282 of tabernaclesH5521, as it is writtenH3789[H8803], and offered the dailyH3117[H3117] burnt offeringsH5930 by numberH4557, according to the customH4941, as the dutyH1697 of every dayH3117 requiredH3117; |
[4]They kept also the feast of the tabernacles, as it is written, and the burnt offering daily, by number according to the custom day by day, |
| [5]And afterwardH310 offered the continualH8548 burnt offeringH5930, both of the new moonsH2320, and of all the set feastsH4150 of the LORDH3068 that were consecratedH6942[H8794], and of every one that willingly offeredH5068[H8693] a freewill offeringH5071 unto the LORDH3068. |
[5]And afterward the continual burnt offering, both in the new months and in all the feast days that were consecrated unto the Lord, and in all the oblations willingly offered unto the Lord. |

[6]From the first day of the seventh month began they to offer burnt offerings unto the Lord: but the foundation of the temple of the Lord was not laid. |
| [7]They gaveH5414[H8799] moneyH3701 also unto the masonsH2672[H8802], and to the carpentersH2796; and meatH3978, and drinkH4960, and oilH8081, unto them of ZidonH6722, and to them of TyreH6876, to bringH935[H8687] cedarH730 treesH6086 from LebanonH3844 to the seaH3220 of JoppaH3305, according to the grantH7558 that they had of CyrusH3566 kingH4428 of PersiaH6539. |
[7]They gave money also unto the masons, and to the workmen, and meat and drink, and oil unto them of Zidon and of Tyre, to bring them cedar wood from Lebanon to the sea unto Joppa, according to the grant that they had of Cyrus king of Persia. |

[8]And in the second year of their coming unto the house of God in Jerusalem in the second month began Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the remnant of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all they that were come out of the captivity unto Jerusalem, and appointed the Levites from twenty year old and above, to set forward the work of the house of the Lord. |
| [9]Then stoodH5975[H8799] JeshuaH3442 with his sonsH1121 and his brethrenH251, KadmielH6934 and his sonsH1121, the sonsH1121 of JudahH3063, togetherH259, to set forwardH5329[H8763] the workmenH6213[H8802][H4399] in the houseH1004 of GodH430: the sonsH1121 of HenadadH2582, with their sonsH1121 and their brethrenH251 the LevitesH3881. |
[9]And Jeshua stood with his sons, and his brethren, and Kadmiel with his sons, and the sons of Judah together to set forward the workmen in the house of God, and the sons of Henadad with their sons, and their brethren the Levites. |
| [10]And when the buildersH1129[H8802] laid the foundationH3245[H8765] of the templeH1964 of the LORDH3068, they setH5975[H8686] the priestsH3548 in their apparelH3847[H8794] with trumpetsH2689, and the LevitesH3881 the sonsH1121 of AsaphH623 with cymbalsH4700, to praiseH1984[H8763] the LORDH3068, after the ordinanceH3027 of DavidH1732 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478. |
[10]And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the Lord, they appointed the priests in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites the sons of Asaph with cymbals, to praise the Lord, after the ordinance of David king of Israel. |
| [11]And they sang together by courseH6030[H8799] in praisingH1984[H8763] and giving thanksH3034[H8687] unto the LORDH3068; because he is goodH2896, for his mercyH2617 endureth for everH5769 toward IsraelH3478. And all the peopleH5971 shoutedH7321[H8689] with a greatH1419 shoutH8643, when they praisedH1984[H8763] the LORDH3068, because the foundationH3245 of the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068 was laidH3245.[H8717] |
[11]Thus they sang when they gave praise, and when they gave thanks unto the Lord, For he is good, for his mercy endureth forever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid. |
| [12]But manyH7227 of the priestsH3548 and LevitesH3881 and chiefH7218 of the fathersH1, who were ancient menH2205, that had seenH7200[H8804] the firstH7223 houseH1004, when the foundationH3245 of this houseH1004 was laidH3245[H8800] before their eyesH5869, weptH1058[H8802] with a loudH1419 voiceH6963; and manyH7227 shoutedH8643 aloudH7311[H8687] for joyH8057: |
[12]Many also of the priests and the Levites and the chief of the fathers, ancient men which had seen the first house, (when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes) wept with a loud voice, and many shouted aloud for joy, |
| [13]So that the peopleH5971 could not discernH5234[H8688] the noiseH6963 of the shoutH8643 of joyH8057 from the noiseH6963 of the weepingH1065 of the peopleH5971: for the peopleH5971 shoutedH7321[H8688] with a loudH1419 shoutH8643, and the noiseH6963 was heardH8085[H8738] afar offH7350. |
[13]So that the people could not discern the sound of the shout for joy, from the noise of the weeping of the people: for the people shouted with a loud cry, and the noise was heard far off. |
