LXX(EN)
[1]Now afterH310 these thingsH1697, in the reignH4438 of ArtaxerxesH783 kingH4428 of PersiaH6539, EzraH5830 the sonH1121 of SeraiahH8304, the sonH1121 of AzariahH5838, the sonH1121 of HilkiahH2518, [1]Now after these things, in the reign of Arthasastha king of the Persians, came up Esdras the son of Saraias, the son of Azarias, the son of Chelcias,
[2]The sonH1121 of ShallumH7967, the sonH1121 of ZadokH6659, the sonH1121 of AhitubH285, [2]the son of Selum, the son of Sadduc, the son of Achitob,
[3]The sonH1121 of AmariahH568, the sonH1121 of AzariahH5838, the sonH1121 of MeraiothH4812, [3]the son of Samarias, the son of Esria, the son of Mareoth,
[4]The sonH1121 of ZerahiahH2228, the sonH1121 of UzziH5813, the sonH1121 of BukkiH1231, [4]the son of Zaraia, the son of Ozias, the son of Bokki,
[5]The sonH1121 of AbishuaH50, the sonH1121 of PhinehasH6372, the sonH1121 of EleazarH499, the sonH1121 of AaronH175 the chiefH7218 priestH3548: [5]the son of Abisue, the son of Phinees, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the first priest.
[6]This EzraH5830 went upH5927[H8804] from BabylonH894; and he was a readyH4106 scribeH5608[H8802] in the lawH8451 of MosesH4872, which the LORDH3068 GodH430 of IsraelH3478 had givenH5414[H8804]: and the kingH4428 grantedH5414[H8799] him all his requestH1246, according to the handH3027 of the LORDH3068 his God upon himH430. [6]This Esdras went up out of Babylon; and he was a ready scribe in the law of Moses, which the Lord God of Israel gave: and the king gave him leave, for the hand of the Lord his God was upon him in all things which he sought.
[7]And there went upH5927[H8799] some of the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, and of the priestsH3548, and the LevitesH3881, and the singersH7891[H8789], and the portersH7778, and the NethinimsH5411, unto JerusalemH3389, in the seventhH7651 yearH8141 of ArtaxerxesH783 the kingH4428. [7]And some of the children of Israel went up, and some of the priests, and of the Levites, and the singers, and the door-keepers, and the Nathinim, to Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Arthasastha the king.
[8]And he cameH935[H8799] to JerusalemH3389 in the fifthH2549 monthH2320, which was in the seventhH7637 yearH8141 of the kingH4428. [8]And they came to Jerusalem in the fifth month, this was the seventh year of the king.
[9]For upon the firstH259 day of the firstH7223 monthH2320 beganH3246 he to go upH4609 from BabylonH894, and on the firstH259 day of the fifthH2549 monthH2320 cameH935[H8804] he to JerusalemH3389, according to the goodH2896 handH3027 of his God upon himH430. [9]For in the first day of the first month he began the going up from Babylon, and in the first day of the fifth month, they came to Jerusalem, for the good hand of his God was upon him.
[10]For EzraH5830 had preparedH3559[H8689] his heartH3824 to seekH1875[H8800] the lawH8451 of the LORDH3068, and to doH6213[H8800] it, and to teachH3925[H8763] in IsraelH3478 statutesH2706 and judgmentsH4941. [10]For Esdras had determined in his heart to seek the law, and to do and teach the ordinances and judgments in Israel.
[11]Now this is the copyH6572 of the letterH5406 that the kingH4428 ArtaxerxesH783 gaveH5414[H8804] unto EzraH5830 the priestH3548, the scribeH5608[H8802], even a scribeH5608[H8802] of the wordsH1697 of the commandmentsH4687 of the LORDH3068, and of his statutesH2706 to IsraelH3478. [11]And this is the copy of the order which Arthasastha gave to Esdras the priest, the scribe of the book of the words of the commandments of the Lord, and of his ordinances to Israel.
[12]ArtaxerxesH783, kingH4430 of kingsH4430, unto EzraH5831 the priestH3549, a scribeH5613 of the lawH1882 of the GodH426 of heavenH8065, perfectH1585[H8752] peace, and at such a timeH3706. [12]Arthasastha, king of kings, to Esdras, the scribe of the law of the Lord God of heaven, Let the order and the answer be accomplished.
[13]IH4481 makeH7761[H8752] a decreeH2942, that allH3606 they ofH4481 the peopleH5972 of IsraelH3479, and of his priestsH3549 and LevitesH3879, in my realmH4437, which are minded of their own freewillH5069[H8723] to go upH1946[H8749] to JerusalemH3390, goH1946[H8748] with theeH5974. [13]A decree is made by me, that every one who is willing in my kingdom of the people of Israel, and of the priests and Levites, to go to Jerusalem, be permitted to go with thee.
[14]ForasmuchH1768[H6903] asH3606 thou art sentH7972[H8750] ofH4481[H6925] the kingH4430, and of his sevenH7655 counsellorsH3272[H8750], to enquireH1240[H8742] concerningH5922 JudahH3061 and JerusalemH3390, according to the lawH1882 of thy GodH426 which is in thine handH3028; [14]One has been sent from the king and the seven councillors, to visit Judea and Jerusalem, according to the law of their God that is in thine hand.
[15]And to carryH2987[H8682] the silverH3702 and goldH1722, which the kingH4430 and his counsellorsH3272[H8750] have freely offeredH5069[H8724] unto the GodH426 of IsraelH3479, whoseH1768 habitationH4907 is in JerusalemH3390, [15]And for the house of the Lord there have been sent silver and gold, which the king and the councillors have freely given to the God of Israel, who dwells in Jerusalem.
[16]And allH3606 the silverH3702 and goldH1722 that thou canst findH7912[H8681] in allH3606 the provinceH4083 of BabylonH895, withH5974 the freewill offeringH5069[H8722] of the peopleH5972, and of the priestsH3549, offering willinglyH5069[H8723] for the houseH1005 of their GodH426 which is in JerusalemH3390: [16]And all the silver and gold, whatsoever thou shalt find in all the land of Babylon, with the freewill-offering of the people, and the priests that offer freely for the house of God which is in Jerusalem.
[17]ThatH3606[H6903] thou mayest buyH7066[H8748] speedilyH629 with thisH1836 moneyH3702 bullocksH8450, ramsH1798, lambsH563, with their meat offeringsH4504 and their drink offeringsH5261, and offerH7127[H8741] themH1994 uponH5922 the altarH4056 of the houseH1005 of your GodH426 which is in JerusalemH3390. [17]And as for every one that arrives there, speedily order him by this letter to bring calves, rams, lambs, and their meat-offerings, and their drink-offerings; and thou shalt offer them on the altar of the house of your God which is in Jerusalem.
[18]And whatsoeverH4101[H1768] shall seem goodH3191[H8748] to thee, and toH5922 thy brethrenH252, to doH5648[H8749] with the restH7606 of the silverH3702 and the goldH1722, that doH5648[H8748] after the willH7470 of your GodH426. [18]And whatever it shall seem good to thee and to thy brethren to do with the rest of the silver and the gold, do as it is pleasing to your God.
[19]The vesselsH3984 also that are givenH3052[H8727] thee for the serviceH6402 of the houseH1005 of thy GodH426, those deliverH8000[H8680] thou beforeH6925 the GodH426 of JerusalemH3390. [19]And deliver the vessels that are given thee for the service of the house of God, before God in Jerusalem.
[20]And whatsoever moreH7606 shall be needfulH2819 for the houseH1005 of thy GodH426, which thou shalt have occasionH5308[H8748] to bestowH5415[H8749], bestowH5415[H8748] it out ofH4481 the king'sH4430 treasureH1596 houseH1005. [20]And as to the rest of the need of the house of thy God, thou shalt give from the king's treasure-houses,
[21]And IH4481, even IH576 ArtaxerxesH783 the kingH4430, do makeH7761[H8752] a decreeH2942 to allH3606 the treasurersH1490 which are beyondH5675 the riverH5103, that whatsoever EzraH5831 the priestH3549, the scribeH5613 of the lawH1882 of the GodH426 of heavenH8065, shall requireH7593[H8748] of you, it be doneH5648[H8725] speedilyH629, [21]and from me, whatever it shall seem good to thee to give. I king Arthasastha have made a decree for all the treasuries that are in the country beyond the river, that whatever Esdras the priest and scribe of the God of heaven may ask you, it shall be done speedily,
[22]UntoH5705 an hundredH3969 talentsH3604 of silverH3702, and to an hundredH3969 measuresH3734 of wheatH2591, and to an hundredH3969 bathsH1325 of wineH2562, and to an hundredH3969 bathsH1325 of oilH4887, and saltH4416 withoutH3809 prescribing how muchH3792. [22]to the amount of a hundred talents of silver, and a hundred measures of wheat, and a hundred baths of wine, and a hundred baths of oil, and salt without reckoning.
[23]WhatsoeverH3606 is commanded byH2941[H4481] the GodH426 of heavenH8065, let it be diligentlyH149 doneH5648[H8725] for the houseH1005 of the GodH426 of heavenH8065: forH1768 whyH4101 should there beH1934[H8748] wrathH7109 againstH5922 the realmH4437 of the kingH4430 and his sonsH1123? [23]Let whatever is in the decree of the God of heaven, be done: take heed lest any one make an attack on the house of the God of heaven, lest at any time there shall be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons.
[24]Also we certifyH3046[H8683] you, that touching anyH3606 of the priestsH3549 and LevitesH3879, singersH2171, portersH8652, NethinimsH5412, or ministersH6399[H8750] of thisH1836 houseH1005 of GodH426, it shall notH3809 be lawfulH7990 to imposeH7412[H8749] tollH4061, tributeH1093, or customH1983, upon themH5922. [24]Also this has been declared to you, with respect to all the priests, and Levites, the singers, porters, Nathinim and ministers of the house of God, let no tribute be paid to thee; thou shalt not have power to oppress them.
[25]And thouH607, EzraH5831, after the wisdomH2452 of thy GodH426, that is in thine handH3028, setH4483[H8740] magistratesH8200[H8751] and judgesH1782, which may judgeH1934[H8748][H1778][H8751] allH3606 the peopleH5972 that are beyondH5675 the riverH5103, allH3606 such as knowH3046[H8751] the lawsH1882 of thy GodH426; and teachH3046[H8681] ye them that knowH3046[H8751] them notH3809. [25]And thou, Esdras, as the wisdom of God is in thy hand, appoint scribes and judges, that they may judge for all the people beyond the river, all that know the law of the Lord thy God; and ye shall make it known to him that knows not.
[26]And whosoeverH3606 will notH3809 doH1934[H8748][H5648][H8751] the lawH1882 of thy GodH426, and the lawH1882 of the kingH4430, let judgmentH1780 beH1934[H8748] executedH5648[H8727] speedilyH629 upon himH4481, whetherH2006 it be unto deathH4193, orH2006 to banishmentH8332, orH2006 to confiscationH6065 of goodsH5232, or to imprisonmentH613. [26]And whosoever shall not do the law of God, and the law of the king readily, judgment shall be taken upon him, whether for death or for chastisement, or for a fine of his property, or casting into prison.
[27]BlessedH1288[H8803] be the LORDH3068 GodH430 of our fathersH1, which hath putH5414[H8804] such a thing as this in the king'sH4428 heartH3820, to beautifyH6286[H8763] the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068 which is in JerusalemH3389: [27]Blessed be the Lord God of our fathers, who has put it thus into the heart of the king, to glorify the house of the Lord which is in Jerusalem;
[28]And hath extendedH5186[H8689] mercyH2617 unto me beforeH6440 the kingH4428, and his counsellorsH3289[H8802], and before all the king'sH4428 mightyH1368 princesH8269. And I was strengthenedH2388[H8694] as the handH3027 of the LORDH3068 my GodH430 was upon me, and I gathered togetherH6908[H8799] out of IsraelH3478 chief menH7218 to go upH5927 with meH8800. [28]and has given me favour in the eyes of the king, and of his councillors, and all the rulers of the king, the exalted ones. And I was strengthened according to the good hand of God upon me, and I gathered chief men of Israel to go up with me.
