| [1]ויהי כל הארץ שפה אחת ודברים אחדים |
[1]And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. |
| [2]ויהי בנסעם מקדם וימצאו בקעה בארץ שנער וישבו שם |
[2]And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. |
| [3]ויאמרו איש אל רעהו הבה נלבנה לבנים ונשרפה לשרפה ותהי להם הלבנה לאבן והחמר היה להם לחמר |
[3]And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar. |
| [4]ויאמרו הבה נבנה לנו עיר ומגדל וראשו בשמים ונעשה לנו שם פן נפוץ על פני כל הארץ |
[4]And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top [may reach] unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. |
| [5]וירד יהוה לראת את העיר ואת המגדל אשר בנו בני האדם |
[5]And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. |
| [6]ויאמר יהוה הן עם אחד ושפה אחת לכלם וזה החלם לעשות ועתה לא יבצר מהם כל אשר יזמו לעשות |
[6]And the LORD said, Behold, the people [is] one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. |
| [7]הבה נרדה ונבלה שם שפתם־אשר לא ישמעו איש שפת רעהו |
[7]Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. |
| [8]ויפץ יהוה אתם משם על פני כל הארץ ויחדלו לבנת העיר |
[8]So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city and the tower. |
| [9]על כן קרא שמה בבל כי שם בלל יהוה שפת כל הארץ ומשם הפיצם יהוה על פני כל הארץ |
[9]Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth. |
| [10]אלה תולדת שם־שם בן מאת שנה ויולד את ארפכשד שנתים אחר המבול |
[10]These [are] the generations of Shem: Shem [was] an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood: |
| [11]ויחי שם אחרי הולידו את ארפכשד חמש מאות שנה ויולד בנים ובנות |
[11]And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters. And they were all days of Shem six hundred years and he is dying. |
| [12]וארפכשד חי חמש ושלשים שנה ויולד את שלח |
[12]And Arphaxad lived five and thirty and one hundred years, and begat Salah: |
| [13]ויחי ארפכשד אחרי הולידו את שלח שלש שנים וארבע מאות שנה ויולד בנים ובנות |
[13]And Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah three hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters. And they were all days of Arphaxad eight and thirty years and four hundred years and he is dying. |
| [14]ושלח חי שלשים שנה ויולד את עבר |
[14]And lived Salah thirty years and one hundred years, and begat Eber: |
| [15]ויחי שלח אחרי הולידו את עבר שלש שנים וארבע מאות שנה ויולד בנים ובנות |
[15]And Salah lived after he begat Eber three hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters. And they were all days of Salah three and thirty years and four hundred years, and he is dying. |
| [16]ויחי עבר ארבע ושלשים שנה ויולד את פלג |
[16]And Eber lived four and thirty and hundred years, and begat Peleg: |
| [17]ויחי עבר אחרי הולידו את פלג שלשים שנה וארבע מאות שנה ויולד בנים ובנות |
[17]And Eber lived after he begat Peleg two hundred and seventy years, and begat sons and daughters. And they were all days of Eber four years and four hundred years, and he is dying. |
| [18]ויחי פלג שלשים שנה ויולד את רעו |
[18]And Peleg lived thirty years and hundred years, and begat Reu: |
| [19]ויחי פלג אחרי הולידו את רעו תשע שנים ומאתים שנה ויולד בנים ובנות |
[19]And Peleg lived after he begat Reu hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters. And they were all days of Peleg nine and thirty and two hundred years, and he is dying. |
| [20]ויחי רעו שתים ושלשים שנה ויולד את שרוג |
[20]And Reu lived two and thirty and hundred years, and begat Serug: |
| [21]ויחי רעו אחרי הולידו את שרוג שבע שנים ומאתים שנה ויולד בנים ובנות |
[21]And Reu lived after he begat Serug hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters. And they were all days of Reu nine and thirty and two hundred years, and he is dying. |
| [22]ויחי שרוג שלשים שנה ויולד את נחור |
[22]And Serug lived hundred and thirty years, and begat Nahor: |
| [23]ויחי שרוג אחרי הולידו את נחור־מאתים שנה ויולד בנים ובנות |
[23]And Serug lived after he begat Nahor hundred years, and begat sons and daughters. And they were all days of Serug thirty years and two hundred years, and he is dying. |
| [24]ויחי נחור תשע ועשרים שנה ויולד את תרח |
[24]And Nahor lived nine and seventy years, and begat Terah: |
| [25]ויחי נחור אחרי הולידו את תרח תשע עשרה שנה ומאת שנה ויולד בנים ובנות |
[25]And Nahor lived after he begat Terah an sixty and nine years, and begat sons and daughters. And they were all days of Nahor eight and forty years and hundred years, and he is dying |
| [26]ויחי תרח שבעים שנה ויולד את אברם את נחור ואת הרן |
[26]And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran. |
| [27]ואלה תולדת תרח־תרח הוליד את אברם את נחור ואת הרן והרן הוליד את לוט |
[27]Now these [are] the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot. |
| [28]וימת הרן על פני תרח אביו בארץ מולדתו באור כשדים |
[28]And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees. |
| [29]ויקח אברם ונחור להם נשים שם אשת אברם שרי ושם אשת נחור מלכה בת הרן אבי מלכה ואבי יסכה |
[29]And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife [was] Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah. |
| [30]ותהי שרי עקרה אין לה ולד |
[30]But Sarai was barren; she [had] no child. |
| [31]ויקח תרח את אברם בנו ואת לוט בן הרן בן בנו ואת שרי כלתו אשת אברם בנו ויצאו אתם מאור כשדים ללכת ארצה כנען ויבאו עד חרן וישבו שם |
[31]And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai and Milka his daughters-in-law, his son Abram's wife; and Nahor his son; and he went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there. |
| [32]ויהיו ימי תרח חמש שנים ומאתים שנה וימת תרח בחרן |
[32]And the days of Terah were hundred and forty five years: and Terah died in Haran. |
