[1]And Sara the wife of Abram bore him no children; and she had an Egyptian maid, whose name was Agar. [1]Now SaraiH8297 Abram'sH87 wifeH802 bareH3205 him noH3808 childrenH3205 : H8804and she had an handmaidH8198, an EgyptianH4713, whose nameH8034 was HagarH1904.
[2]And Sara said to Abram, Behold, the Lord has restrained me from bearing, go therefore in to my maid, that I may get children for myself through her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sara. [2]And SaraiH8297 saidH559 H8799unto AbramH87, Behold now, the LORDH3068 hath restrained meH6113 H8804from bearingH3205 : H8800I pray thee, go inH935 H8798unto my maidH8198; it mayH194 be that I may obtain childrenH1129 H8735by her. And AbramH87 hearkenedH8085 H8799to the voiceH6963 of SaraiH8297.
[3]So Sara the wife of Abram having taken Agar the Egyptian her handmaid, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Chanaan, gave her to Abram her husband as a wife to him. [3]And SaraiH8297 Abram'sH87 wifeH802 tookH3947 H8799HagarH1904 her maidH8198 the EgyptianH4713, afterH7093 AbramH87 had dweltH3427 H8800tenH6235 yearsH8141 in the landH776 of CanaanH3667, and gaveH5414 H8799her to her husbandH376 AbramH87 to be his wifeH802.
[4]And he went in to Agar, and she conceived, and saw that she was with child, and her mistress was dishonoured before her. [4]And he went inH935 H8799unto HagarH1904, and she conceivedH2029 : H8799and when she sawH7200 H8799that she had conceivedH2029 , H8804her mistressH1404 was despisedH7043 H8799in her eyesH5869.
[5]And Sara said to Abram, I am injured by thee; I gave my handmaid into thy bosom, and when I saw that she was with child, I was dishonoured before her. The Lord judge between me and thee. [5]And SaraiH8297 saidH559 H8799unto AbramH87, My wrongH2555 be upon thee: I have givenH5414 H8804my maidH8198 into thy bosomH2436; and when she sawH7200 H8799that she had conceivedH2029 , H8804I was despisedH7043 H8799in her eyesH5869: the LORDH3068 judgeH8199 between me and theeH8799.
[6]And Abram said to Sara, Behold thy handmaid is in thy hands, use her as it may seem good to thee. And Sara afflicted her, and she fled from her face. [6]But AbramH87 saidH559 H8799unto SaraiH8297, Behold, thy maidH8198 is in thy handH3027; doH6213 H8798to her as it pleaseth theeH2896 . H5869And when SaraiH8297 dealt hardly withH6031 H8762her, she fledH1272 H8799from her faceH6440.
[7]And an angel of the Lord found her by the fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Sur. [7]And the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 found herH4672 H8799by a fountainH5869 of waterH4325 in the wildernessH4057, by the fountainH5869 in the wayH1870 to ShurH7793.
[8]And the angel of the Lord said to her, Agar, Sara's maid, whence comest thou, and wither goest thou? and she said, I am fleeing from the face of my mistress Sara. [8]And he saidH559 , H8799HagarH1904, Sarai'sH8297 maidH8198, whenceH335 camest thouH935 ? H8804and whither wilt thou goH3212 ? H8799And she saidH559 , H8799I fleeH1272 H8802from the faceH6440 of my mistressH1404 SaraiH8297.
[9]And the angel of the Lord said to her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands. [9]And the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 saidH559 H8799unto her, ReturnH7725 H8798to thy mistressH1404, and submitH6031 H8690thyself under her handsH3027.
[10]And the angel of the Lord said to her, I will surely multiply thy seed, and it shall not be numbered for multitude. [10]And the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 saidH559 H8799unto her, I will multiplyH7235 H8686thy seedH2233 exceedinglyH7235 , H8687that it shall not be numberedH5608 H8735for multitudeH7230.
[11]And the angel of the Lord said to her, Behold thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ismael, for the Lord hath hearkened to thy humiliation. [11]And the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 saidH559 H8799unto her, BeholdH2009, thou art with childH2030, and shalt bearH3205 H8802a sonH1121, and shalt callH7121 H8804his nameH8034 IshmaelH3458; because the LORDH3068 hath heardH8085 H8804thy afflictionH6040.
[12]He shall be a wild man, his hands against all, and the hands of all against him, and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren. [12]And he will be a wildH6501 manH120; his handH3027 will be against every man, and every man's handH3027 against him; and he shall dwellH7931 H8799in the presenceH6440 of all his brethrenH251.
[13]And she called the name of the Lord God who spoke to her, Thou art God who seest me; for she said, For I have openly seen him that appeared to me. [13]And she calledH7121 H8799the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068 that spakeH1696 H8802unto her, Thou GodH410 seest meH7210: for she saidH559 , H8804Have I also hereH1988 lookedH7200 H8804after himH310 that seeth meH7210?
[14]Therefore she called the well, The well of him whom I have openly seen; behold it is between Cades and Barad. [14]Wherefore the wellH875 was calledH7121 H8804BeerlahairoiH883 ; H2416behold, it is between KadeshH6946 and BeredH1260.
[15]And Agar bore a son to Abram; and Abram called the name of his son which Agar bore to him, Ismael. [15]And HagarH1904 bareH3205 H8799AbramH87 a sonH1121: and AbramH87 calledH7121 H8799his son'sH1121 nameH8034, which HagarH1904 bareH3205 , H8804IshmaelH3458.
[16]And Abram was eighty-six years old, when Agar bore Ismael to Abram. [16]And AbramH87 was fourscoreH8084 H8141and sixH8337 yearsH8141 oldH1121, when HagarH1904 bareH3205 H8800IshmaelH3458 to AbramH87.
