| [1]Rachel when she sawe that she bare Iacob no children, she enuied her sister, and sayde vnto Iacob: Geue me children, or els I am but dead |
[1]ἰδοῦσα δὲ ραχηλ ὅτι οὐ τέτοκεν τῷ ιακωβ καὶ ἐζήλωσεν ραχηλ τὴν ἀδελφὴν αὐτῆς καὶ εἶπεν τῷ ιακωβ δός μοι τέκνα εἰ δὲ μή τελευτήσω ἐγώ |
| [2]And Iacobs anger was kyndled agaynst Rachel, and sayde: Am I in Gods steade, whiche kepeth from thee the fruite of thy wombe |
[2]ἐθυμώθη δὲ ιακωβ τῇ ραχηλ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ μὴ ἀντὶ θεοῦ ἐγώ εἰμι ὃς ἐστέρησέν σε καρπὸν κοιλίας |
| [3]Then she sayde: Here is my mayde Bilha, go in vnto her, & she shall beare vpon my knees, that I also may haue chyldren by her |
[3]εἶπεν δὲ ραχηλ τῷ ιακωβ ἰδοὺ ἡ παιδίσκη μου βαλλα εἴσελθε πρὸς αὐτήν καὶ τέξεται ἐπὶ τῶν γονάτων μου καὶ τεκνοποιήσομαι κἀγὼ ἐξ αὐτῆς |
| [4]And she gaue him Bilha her handmayde to wyfe: and Iacob went in vnto her |
[4]καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτῷ βαλλαν τὴν παιδίσκην αὐτῆς αὐτῷ γυναῖκα εἰσῆλθεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτὴν ιακωβ |
| [5]And Bilha conceaued, and bare Iacob a sonne |
[5]καὶ συνέλαβεν βαλλα ἡ παιδίσκη ραχηλ καὶ ἔτεκεν τῷ ιακωβ υἱόν |
| [6]Then saide Rachel: God hath geuen sentence on my side, and hath also heard my voyce, and hath geuen me a sonne: therfore called she hym Dan |
[6]καὶ εἶπεν ραχηλ ἔκρινέν μοι ὁ θεὸς καὶ ἐπήκουσεν τῆς φωνῆς μου καὶ ἔδωκέν μοι υἱόν διὰ τοῦτο ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ δαν |
| [7]And Bilha Rachels seruant conceaued againe, & bare Iacob another sonne |
[7]καὶ συνέλαβεν ἔτι βαλλα ἡ παιδίσκη ραχηλ καὶ ἔτεκεν υἱὸν δεύτερον τῷ ιακωβ |
| [8]And Rachel said: With godly wrastlynges haue I wrastled with my sister, & haue gotten the vpper hande: and she called his name Nephthali |
[8]καὶ εἶπεν ραχηλ συνελάβετό μοι ὁ θεός καὶ συνανεστράφην τῇ ἀδελφῇ μου καὶ ἠδυνάσθην καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ νεφθαλι |
| [9]When Lea sawe that she had left bearyng chyldren she toke Zilpha her mayde, and gaue her Iacob to wyfe |
[9]εἶδεν δὲ λεια ὅτι ἔστη τοῦ τίκτειν καὶ ἔλαβεν ζελφαν τὴν παιδίσκην αὐτῆς καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτὴν τῷ ιακωβ γυναῖκα |
| [10]And Zilpha Leas mayde bare Iacob a sonne |
[10]εἰσῆλθεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτὴν ιακωβ καὶ συνέλαβεν ζελφα ἡ παιδίσκη λειας καὶ ἔτεκεν τῷ ιακωβ υἱόν |
| [11]Then sayde Lea, Good lucke: and called his name Gad |
[11]καὶ εἶπεν λεια ἐν τύχῃ καὶ ἐπωνόμασεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ γαδ |
| [12]And Zilpha Leas seruaunt bare Iacob an other sonne |
[12]καὶ συνέλαβεν ζελφα ἡ παιδίσκη λειας καὶ ἔτεκεν ἔτι τῷ ιακωβ υἱὸν δεύτερον |
| [13]Then saide Lea: happy am I, for the daughters wyll call me blessed: and called his name Aser |
[13]καὶ εἶπεν λεια μακαρία ἐγώ ὅτι μακαρίζουσίν με αἱ γυναῖκες καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ ασηρ |
| [14]And Ruben went out in the dayes of the wheate haruest, & founde Mandragoras in the fielde, and brought them vnto his mother Lea. Then said Rachel to Lea: Geue me I praye thee of thy sonnes Mandragoras |
[14]ἐπορεύθη δὲ ρουβην ἐν ἡμέραις θερισμοῦ πυρῶν καὶ εὗρεν μῆλα μανδραγόρου ἐν τῷ ἀγρῷ καὶ ἤνεγκεν αὐτὰ πρὸς λειαν τὴν μητέρα αὐτοῦ εἶπεν δὲ ραχηλ τῇ λεια δός μοι τῶν μανδραγορῶν τοῦ υἱοῦ σου |
| [15]To whom Lea aunswered: Is it not enough that thou hast taken away my husband, but wouldest take away my sonnes Mandragoras also? Then saide Rachel: well, let hym sleepe with thee this night for thy sonnes Mandragoras |
[15]εἶπεν δὲ λεια οὐχ ἱκανόν σοι ὅτι ἔλαβες τὸν ἄνδρα μου μὴ καὶ τοὺς μανδραγόρας τοῦ υἱοῦ μου λήμψῃ εἶπεν δὲ ραχηλ οὐχ οὕτως κοιμηθήτω μετὰ σοῦ τὴν νύκτα ταύτην ἀντὶ τῶν μανδραγορῶν τοῦ υἱοῦ σου |
| [16]And Iacob came from the fielde at euen, and Lea went out to meete hym, and sayde: thou shalt come in to me, for I haue bought thee in deede with my sonne Mandragoras. And he slept with her that same nyght |
[16]εἰσῆλθεν δὲ ιακωβ ἐξ ἀγροῦ ἑσπέρας καὶ ἐξῆλθεν λεια εἰς συνάντησιν αὐτῷ καὶ εἶπεν πρός με εἰσελεύσῃ σήμερον μεμίσθωμαι γάρ σε ἀντὶ τῶν μανδραγορῶν τοῦ υἱοῦ μου καὶ ἐκοιμήθη μετ αὐτῆς τὴν νύκτα ἐκείνην |
| [17]And God hearde Lea, that she conceaued, and bare Iacob the fift sonne |
[17]καὶ ἐπήκουσεν ὁ θεὸς λειας καὶ συλλαβοῦσα ἔτεκεν τῷ ιακωβ υἱὸν πέμπτον |
| [18]Then sayde Lea: God hath geuen me a rewarde, because I gaue my mayden to my husbande: and she called him Isachar |
[18]καὶ εἶπεν λεια ἔδωκεν ὁ θεὸς τὸν μισθόν μου ἀνθ οὗ ἔδωκα τὴν παιδίσκην μου τῷ ἀνδρί μου καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ ισσαχαρ ὅ ἐστιν μισθός |
| [19]And Lea conceaued yet agayne, and bare Iacob the sixt sonne |
[19]καὶ συνέλαβεν ἔτι λεια καὶ ἔτεκεν υἱὸν ἕκτον τῷ ιακωβ |
| [20]And Lea sayde: God hath endued me with a good dowrie, nowe wyll my husbande dwell with me, because I haue borne hym sixe sonnes: and called his name Zabulon |
[20]καὶ εἶπεν λεια δεδώρηταί μοι ὁ θεὸς δῶρον καλόν ἐν τῷ νῦν καιρῷ αἱρετιεῖ με ὁ ἀνήρ μου ἔτεκον γὰρ αὐτῷ υἱοὺς ἕξ καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ ζαβουλων |
| [21]After that, she bare a daughter, and called her name Dina |
[21]καὶ μετὰ τοῦτο ἔτεκεν θυγατέρα καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτῆς δινα |
| [22]And God remembred Rachel, & God hearde her, and made her fruitefull |
[22]ἐμνήσθη δὲ ὁ θεὸς τῆς ραχηλ καὶ ἐπήκουσεν αὐτῆς ὁ θεὸς καὶ ἀνέῳξεν αὐτῆς τὴν μήτραν |
| [23]So that she conceaued & bare a sonne: and sayde, God hath taken awaye my rebuke |
[23]καὶ συλλαβοῦσα ἔτεκεν τῷ ιακωβ υἱόν εἶπεν δὲ ραχηλ ἀφεῖλεν ὁ θεός μου τὸ ὄνειδος |
| [24]And she called his name Ioseph, saying: the Lorde geue me yet another sonne |
[24]καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ ιωσηφ λέγουσα προσθέτω ὁ θεός μοι υἱὸν ἕτερον |
| [25]Assoone as Rachel had borne Ioseph, Iacob sayde to Laban: Send me away, that I maye go vnto my owne place, and to my countrey |
[25]ἐγένετο δὲ ὡς ἔτεκεν ραχηλ τὸν ιωσηφ εἶπεν ιακωβ τῷ λαβαν ἀπόστειλόν με ἵνα ἀπέλθω εἰς τὸν τόπον μου καὶ εἰς τὴν γῆν μου |
| [26]Geue me my wyues and my chyldren for whom I haue serued thee, and let me go: for thou knowest what seruice I haue done thee |
[26]ἀπόδος τὰς γυναῖκάς μου καὶ τὰ παιδία περὶ ὧν δεδούλευκά σοι ἵνα ἀπέλθω σὺ γὰρ γινώσκεις τὴν δουλείαν ἣν δεδούλευκά σοι |
| [27]To whom Laban aunswered: I pray thee, yf I haue founde fauour in thy syght [tary]: for I haue proued that the Lorde blessed me for thy sake |
[27]εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ λαβαν εἰ εὗρον χάριν ἐναντίον σου οἰωνισάμην ἄν εὐλόγησεν γάρ με ὁ θεὸς τῇ σῇ εἰσόδῳ |
| [28]Also he sayde: Appoynt what thy rewarde shalbe, and I wyll geue [it thee. |
[28]διάστειλον τὸν μισθόν σου πρός με καὶ δώσω |
| [29]But he saide vnto him: Thou knowest what seruice I haue done thee, and in what takyng thy cattell haue ben vnder me |
[29]εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ ιακωβ σὺ γινώσκεις ἃ δεδούλευκά σοι καὶ ὅσα ἦν κτήνη σου μετ ἐμοῦ |
| [30]For that litle which thou haddest before I came, is nowe increased into a multitude, and the Lord hath blessed thee through my trauell: but nowe when shall I make prouision for myne owne house also |
[30]μικρὰ γὰρ ἦν ὅσα σοι ἦν ἐναντίον ἐμοῦ καὶ ηὐξήθη εἰς πλῆθος καὶ ηὐλόγησέν σε κύριος ἐπὶ τῷ ποδί μου νῦν οὖν πότε ποιήσω κἀγὼ ἐμαυτῷ οἶκον |
| [31]And he sayde: What shall I then geue thee? And Iacob aunswered, Thou shalt geue me nothyng at all: yf thou wylt do this thyng for me, then wyll I turne agayne, feede thy sheepe, and kepe them |
[31]καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ λαβαν τί σοι δώσω εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ ιακωβ οὐ δώσεις μοι οὐθέν ἐὰν ποιήσῃς μοι τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο πάλιν ποιμανῶ τὰ πρόβατά σου καὶ φυλάξω |
| [32]I wyll go about all thy flockes this day, and seperate from them all the cattell that are spotted & of diuers colours: and all the blacke among the sheepe, & the partie & spotted amongst the kiddes [the same] shalbe my rewarde |
[32]παρελθάτω πάντα τὰ πρόβατά σου σήμερον καὶ διαχώρισον ἐκεῖθεν πᾶν πρόβατον φαιὸν ἐν τοῖς ἀρνάσιν καὶ πᾶν διάλευκον καὶ ῥαντὸν ἐν ταῖς αἰξίν ἔσται μοι μισθός |
| [33]So shall my ryghteousnes aunswere for me in time to come: for it shal come for my rewarde before thy face. And euery one that is not specked and partie amongst the goates, & blacke amongst the sheepe, let it be compted theft in me |
[33]καὶ ἐπακούσεταί μοι ἡ δικαιοσύνη μου ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ αὔριον ὅτι ἐστὶν ὁ μισθός μου ἐνώπιόν σου πᾶν ὃ ἐὰν μὴ ᾖ ῥαντὸν καὶ διάλευκον ἐν ταῖς αἰξὶν καὶ φαιὸν ἐν τοῖς ἀρνάσιν κεκλεμμένον ἔσται παρ ἐμοί |
| [34]And Laban sayde: go to, would God it myght be accordyng to thy saying |
[34]εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ λαβαν ἔστω κατὰ τὸ ῥῆμά σου |
| [35]Therfore he toke out the same day the hee goates that were ryngstraked and of diuers colours, & all the shee goates that were spotted and coloured, and all that had whyte in them, & all the blacke amongst the sheepe, and put them in the kepyng of his sonnes |
[35]καὶ διέστειλεν ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ τοὺς τράγους τοὺς ῥαντοὺς καὶ τοὺς διαλεύκους καὶ πάσας τὰς αἶγας τὰς ῥαντὰς καὶ τὰς διαλεύκους καὶ πᾶν ὃ ἦν λευκὸν ἐν αὐτοῖς καὶ πᾶν ὃ ἦν φαιὸν ἐν τοῖς ἀρνάσιν καὶ ἔδωκεν διὰ χειρὸς τῶν υἱῶν αὐτοῦ |
| [36]And set three dayes iourney betwixte himselfe and Iacob: and so Iacob kept the rest of Labans sheepe |
[36]καὶ ἀπέστησεν ὁδὸν τριῶν ἡμερῶν ἀνὰ μέσον αὐτῶν καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον ιακωβ ιακωβ δὲ ἐποίμαινεν τὰ πρόβατα λαβαν τὰ ὑπολειφθέντα |
| [37]Iacob toke roddes of greene populer, hasell, and chesse nut trees, and pilled whyte strakes in them, and made the whyte appeare in the roddes |
[37]ἔλαβεν δὲ ἑαυτῷ ιακωβ ῥάβδον στυρακίνην χλωρὰν καὶ καρυίνην καὶ πλατάνου καὶ ἐλέπισεν αὐτὰς ιακωβ λεπίσματα λευκὰ περισύρων τὸ χλωρόν ἐφαίνετο δὲ ἐπὶ ταῖς ῥάβδοις τὸ λευκόν ὃ ἐλέπισεν ποικίλον |
| [38]And put the roddes which he had pilled, [euen] before the sheepe, in the gutters and watryng throughes when the sheepe came to drynke, that they should conceaue when they came to drynke |
[38]καὶ παρέθηκεν τὰς ῥάβδους ἃς ἐλέπισεν ἐν ταῖς ληνοῖς τῶν ποτιστηρίων τοῦ ὕδατος ἵνα ὡς ἂν ἔλθωσιν τὰ πρόβατα πιεῖν ἐνώπιον τῶν ῥάβδων ἐλθόντων αὐτῶν εἰς τὸ πιεῖν |
| [39]And the sheepe conceaued before the roddes, & brought foorth lambes ryngstraked, spotted, and partie |
[39]ἐγκισσήσωσιν τὰ πρόβατα εἰς τὰς ῥάβδους καὶ ἔτικτον τὰ πρόβατα διάλευκα καὶ ποικίλα καὶ σποδοειδῆ ῥαντά |
| [40]And Iacob did seperate these lambes, and turned the faces of the sheepe whiche were in the flocke of Laban, towarde these ryngstraked, and al maner of blacke: and so put his owne flockes by them selues, and put them not with Labans cattell |
[40]τοὺς δὲ ἀμνοὺς διέστειλεν ιακωβ καὶ ἔστησεν ἐναντίον τῶν προβάτων κριὸν διάλευκον καὶ πᾶν ποικίλον ἐν τοῖς ἀμνοῖς καὶ διεχώρισεν ἑαυτῷ ποίμνια καθ ἑαυτὸν καὶ οὐκ ἔμιξεν αὐτὰ εἰς τὰ πρόβατα λαβαν |
| [41]And in euery conceauyng tyme of the stronger cattel, Iacob layed the roddes before the eyes of the cattell in the gutters, namely that they myght conceaue before the roddes |
[41]ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῷ καιρῷ ᾧ ἐνεκίσσησεν τὰ πρόβατα ἐν γαστρὶ λαμβάνοντα ἔθηκεν ιακωβ τὰς ῥάβδους ἐναντίον τῶν προβάτων ἐν ταῖς ληνοῖς τοῦ ἐγκισσῆσαι αὐτὰ κατὰ τὰς ῥάβδους |
| [42]But when the cattell were feeble, he put them not in: and so the feebler were Labans, and the stronger Iacobs |
[42]ἡνίκα δ ἂν ἔτεκον τὰ πρόβατα οὐκ ἐτίθει ἐγένετο δὲ τὰ ἄσημα τοῦ λαβαν τὰ δὲ ἐπίσημα τοῦ ιακωβ |
| [43]And the man increased exceedingly, and had much cattell, and mayde seruauntes, and man seruauntes, and camels, and asses |
[43]καὶ ἐπλούτησεν ὁ ἄνθρωπος σφόδρα σφόδρα καὶ ἐγένετο αὐτῷ κτήνη πολλὰ καὶ βόες καὶ παῖδες καὶ παιδίσκαι καὶ κάμηλοι καὶ ὄνοι |
