[1]And when RachelH7354 sawH7200 H8799that she bareH3205 H8804JacobH3290 no children, RachelH7354 enviedH7065 H8762her sisterH269; and saidH559 H8799unto JacobH3290, GiveH3051 H8798me childrenH1121, or elseH369 I dieH4191.[H8801] [1]And Rachel seeth that she hath not borne to Jacob, and Rachel is envious of her sister, and saith unto Jacob, `Give me sons, and if there is none -- I die.'
[2]And Jacob'sH3290 angerH639 was kindledH2734 H8799against RachelH7354: and he saidH559 , H8799Am I in God'sH430 stead, who hath withheldH4513 H8804from thee the fruitH6529 of the wombH990? [2]And Jacob's anger burneth against Rachel, and he saith, `Am I in stead of God who hath withheld from thee the fruit of the womb?'
[3]And she saidH559 , H8799Behold my maidH519 BilhahH1090, go inH935 H8798unto her; and she shall bearH3205 H8799upon my kneesH1290, that I may also have childrenH1129 by herH8735. [3]And she saith, `Lo, my handmaid Bilhah, go in unto her, and she doth bear on my knees, and I am built up, even I, from her;'
[4]And she gaveH5414 H8799him BilhahH1090 her handmaidH8198 to wifeH802: and JacobH3290 went inH935 unto herH8799. [4]and she giveth to him Bilhah her maid-servant for a wife, and Jacob goeth in unto her;
[5]And BilhahH1090 conceivedH2029 , H8799and bareH3205 H8799JacobH3290 a sonH1121. [5]and Bilhah conceiveth, and beareth to Jacob a son,
[6]And RachelH7354 saidH559 , H8799GodH430 hath judgedH1777 H8804me, and hath also heardH8085 H8804my voiceH6963, and hath givenH5414 H8799me a sonH1121: therefore calledH7121 H8804she his nameH8034 DanH1835. [6]and Rachel saith, `God hath decided for me, and also hath hearkened to my voice, and giveth to me a son;' therefore hath she called his name Dan.
[7]And BilhahH1090 Rachel'sH7354 maidH8198 conceivedH2029 H8799again, and bareH3205 H8799JacobH3290 a secondH8145 sonH1121. [7]And Bilhah, Rachel's maid-servant, conceiveth again, and beareth a second son to Jacob,
[8]And RachelH7354 saidH559 , H8799With greatH430 wrestlingsH5319 have I wrestledH6617 H8738with my sisterH269, and I have prevailedH3201 : H8804and she calledH7121 H8799his nameH8034 NaphtaliH5321. [8]and Rachel saith, `With wrestlings of God I have wrestled with my sister, yea, I have prevailed;' and she calleth his name Napthali.
[9]When LeahH3812 sawH7200 H8799that she had leftH5975 H8804bearingH3205 , H8800she tookH3947 H8799ZilpahH2153 her maidH8198, and gaveH5414 H8799her JacobH3290 to wifeH802. [9]And Leah seeth that she hath ceased from bearing, and she taketh Zilpah her maid-servant, and giveth her to Jacob for a wife;
[10]And ZilpahH2153 Leah'sH3812 maidH8198 bareH3205 H8799JacobH3290 a sonH1121. [10]and Zilpah, Leah's maid-servant, beareth to Jacob a son,
[11]And LeahH3812 saidH559 , H8799A troopH1409 comethH935 : H8804and she calledH7121 H8799his nameH8034 GadH1410. [11]and Leah saith, `A troop is coming;' and she calleth his name Gad.
[12]And ZilpahH2153 Leah'sH3812 maidH8198 bareH3205 H8799JacobH3290 a secondH8145 sonH1121. [12]And Zilpah, Leah's maid-servant, beareth a second son to Jacob,
[13]And LeahH3812 saidH559 , H8799Happy am IH837, for the daughtersH1323 will call me blessedH833 : H8765and she calledH7121 H8799his nameH8034 AsherH836. [13]and Leah saith, `Because of my happiness, for daughters have pronounced me happy;' and she calleth his name Asher.
[14]And ReubenH7205 went inH3212 H8799the daysH3117 of wheatH2406 harvestH7105, and foundH4672 H8799mandrakesH1736 in the fieldH7704, and broughtH935 H8686them unto his motherH517 LeahH3812. Then RachelH7354 saidH559 H8799to LeahH3812, Give meH5414 , H8798I pray thee, of thy son'sH1121 mandrakesH1736. [14]And Reuben goeth in the days of wheat-harvest, and findeth love-apples in the field, and bringeth them in unto Leah, his mother, and Rachel saith unto Leah, `Give to me, I pray thee, of the love-apples of thy son.'
[15]And she saidH559 H8799unto her, Is it a small matterH4592 that thou hast takenH3947 H8800my husbandH376? and wouldest thou take awayH3947 H8800my son'sH1121 mandrakesH1736 also? And RachelH7354 saidH559 , H8799Therefore he shall lieH7901 H8799with thee to nightH3915 forH8478 thy son'sH1121 mandrakesH1736. [15]And she saith to her, `Is thy taking my husband a little thing, that thou hast taken also the love-apples of my son?' and Rachel saith, `Therefore doth he lie with thee to-night, for thy son's love-apples.'
[16]And JacobH3290 cameH935 H8799out of the fieldH7704 in the eveningH6153, and LeahH3812 went outH3318 H8799to meetH7125 H8800him, and saidH559 , H8799Thou must come inH935 H8799unto me; for surelyH7936 H8800I have hiredH7936 H8804thee with my son'sH1121 mandrakesH1736. And he layH7901 H8799with her that nightH3915. [16]And Jacob cometh in from the field at evening; and Leah goeth to meet him, and saith, `Unto me dost thou come in, for hiring I have hired thee with my son's love-apples;' and he lieth with her during that night.
[17]And GodH430 hearkenedH8085 H8799unto LeahH3812, and she conceivedH2029 , H8799and bareH3205 H8799JacobH3290 the fifthH2549 sonH1121. [17]And God hearkeneth unto Leah, and she conceiveth, and beareth to Jacob a son, a fifth,
[18]And LeahH3812 saidH559 , H8799GodH430 hath givenH5414 H8804me my hireH7939, becauseH834 I have givenH5414 H8804my maidenH8198 to my husbandH376: and she calledH7121 H8799his nameH8034 IssacharH3485. [18]and Leah saith, `God hath given my hire, because I have given my maid-servant to my husband;' and she calleth his name Issachar.
[19]And LeahH3812 conceivedH2029 H8799again, and bareH3205 H8799JacobH3290 the sixthH8345 sonH1121. [19]And conceive again doth Leah, and she beareth a sixth son to Jacob,
[20]And LeahH3812 saidH559 , H8799GodH430 hath enduedH2064 H8804me with a goodH2896 dowryH2065; nowH6471 will my husbandH376 dwellH2082 H8799with me, because I have bornH3205 H8804him sixH8337 sonsH1121: and she calledH7121 H8799his nameH8034 ZebulunH2074. [20]and Leah saith, `God hath endowed me -- a good dowry; this time doth my husband dwell with me, for I have borne to him six sons;' and she calleth his name Zebulun;
[21]And afterwardsH310 she bareH3205 H8804a daughterH1323, and calledH7121 H8799her nameH8034 DinahH1783. [21]and afterwards hath she born a daughter, and calleth her name Dinah.
[22]And GodH430 rememberedH2142 H8799RachelH7354, and GodH430 hearkenedH8085 H8799to her, and openedH6605 H8799her wombH7358. [22]And God remembereth Rachel, and God hearkeneth unto her, and openeth her womb,
[23]And she conceivedH2029 , H8799and bareH3205 H8799a sonH1121; and saidH559 , H8799GodH430 hath taken awayH622 H8804my reproachH2781: [23]and she conceiveth and beareth a son, and saith, `God hath gathered up my reproach;'
[24]And she calledH7121 H8799his nameH8034 JosephH3130; and saidH559 , H8800The LORDH3068 shall addH3254 H8686to me anotherH312 sonH1121. [24]and she calleth his name Joseph, saying, `Jehovah is adding to me another son.'
[25]And it came to pass, when RachelH7354 had bornH3205 H8804JosephH3130, that JacobH3290 saidH559 H8799unto LabanH3837, Send me awayH7971 , H8761that I may goH3212 H8799unto mine own placeH4725, and to my countryH776. [25]And it cometh to pass, when Rachel hath borne Joseph, that Jacob saith unto Laban, `Send me away, and I go unto my place, and to my land;
[26]GiveH5414 H8798me my wivesH802 and my childrenH3206, forH2004 whom I have servedH5647 H8804thee, and let me goH3212 : H8799for thou knowestH3045 H8804my serviceH5656 which I have doneH5647 theeH8804. [26]give up my wives and my children, for whom I have served thee, and I go; for thou -- thou hast known my service which I have served thee.'
[27]And LabanH3837 saidH559 H8799unto him, I pray thee, if I have foundH4672 H8804favourH2580 in thine eyesH5869, tarry: for I have learned by experienceH5172 H8765that the LORDH3068 hath blessedH1288 H8762me for thy sakeH1558. [27]And Laban saith unto him, `If, I pray thee, I have found grace in thine eyes -- I have observed diligently that Jehovah doth bless me for thy sake.'
[28]And he saidH559 , H8799AppointH5344 H8798me thy wagesH7939, and I will giveH5414 itH8799. [28]He saith also, `Define thy hire to me, and I give.'
[29]And he saidH559 H8799unto him, Thou knowestH3045 H8804howH834 I have servedH5647 H8804thee, and howH834 thy cattle was with meH4735. [29]And he saith unto him, `Thou -- thou hast known that which I have served thee [in], and that which thy substance was with me;
[30]For it was littleH4592 which thou hadst before IH6440 came, and it is now increasedH6555 H8799unto a multitudeH7230; and the LORDH3068 hath blessedH1288 H8762thee since my comingH7272: and now whenH4970 shall I provideH6213 H8799for mine own house alsoH1004? [30]for [it is] little which thou hast had at my appearance, and it breaketh forth into a multitude, and Jehovah blesseth thee at my coming; and now, when do I make, I also, for mine own house?'
[31]And he saidH559 , H8799What shall I give theeH5414 ? H8799And JacobH3290 saidH559 , H8799Thou shalt not giveH5414 H8799me any thingH3972: if thou wilt doH6213 H8799this thingH1697 for me, I will againH7725 H8799feedH7462 H8799and keepH8104 H8799thy flockH6629: [31]And he saith, `What do I give to thee?' And Jacob saith, `Thou dost not give me anything; if thou do for me this thing, I turn back; I have delight; thy flock I watch;
[32]I will passH5674 H8799through all thy flockH6629 to dayH3117, removingH5493 H8687from thence all the speckledH5348 and spottedH2921 H8803cattleH7716, and all the brownH2345 cattleH7716 among the sheepH3775, and the spottedH2921 H8803and speckledH5348 among the goatsH5795: and of such shall be my hireH7939. [32]I pass through all thy flock to-day to turn aside from thence every sheep speckled and spotted, and every brown sheep among the lambs, and speckled and spotted among the goats -- and it hath been my hire;
[33]So shall my righteousnessH6666 answerH6030 H8804for me in timeH3117 to comeH4279, when it shall comeH935 H8799for my hireH7939 before thy faceH6440: every oneH3605 that is not speckledH5348 and spottedH2921 H8803among the goatsH5795, and brownH2345 among the sheepH3775, that shall be counted stolenH1589 with meH8803. [33]and my righteousness hath answered for me in the day to come, when it cometh in for my hire before thy face; -- every one which is not speckled and spotted among [my] goats, and brown among [my] lambs -- it is stolen with me.'
[34]And LabanH3837 saidH559 , H8799Behold, I would it might beH3863 according to thy wordH1697. [34]And Laban saith, `Lo, O that it were according to thy word;'
[35]And he removedH5493 H8686that dayH3117 the he goatsH8495 that were ringstrakedH6124 and spottedH2921 , H8803and all the she goatsH5795 that were speckledH5348 and spottedH2921 , H8803and every one that had some whiteH3836 in it, and all the brownH2345 among the sheepH3775, and gaveH5414 H8799them into the handH3027 of his sonsH1121. [35]and he turneth aside during that day the ring-straked and the spotted he-goats, and all the speckled and the spotted she-goats, every one that [hath] white in it, and every brown one among the lambs, and he giveth into the hand of his sons,
[36]And he setH7760 H8799threeH7969 days'H3117 journeyH1870 betwixt himself and JacobH3290: and JacobH3290 fedH7462 H8802the restH3498 H8737of Laban'sH3837 flocksH6629. [36]and setteth a journey of three days between himself and Jacob; and Jacob is feeding the rest of the flock of Laban.
[37]And JacobH3290 tookH3947 H8799him rodsH4731 of greenH3892 poplarH3839, and of the hazelH3869 and chesnut treeH6196; and pilledH6478 H8762whiteH3836 strakesH6479 in them, and made the whiteH3836 appearH4286 which was in the rodsH4731. [37]And Jacob taketh to himself a rod of fresh poplar, and of the hazel and chesnut, and doth peel in them white peelings, making bare the white that [is] on the rods,
[38]And he setH3322 H8686the rodsH4731 which he had pilledH6478 H8765beforeH5227 the flocksH6629 in the guttersH7298 in the wateringH4325 troughsH8268 when the flocksH6629 cameH935 H8799to drinkH8354 , H8800that they should conceiveH3179 H8799when they cameH935 H8800to drinkH8354.[H8800] [38]and setteth up the rods which he hath peeled in the gutters in the watering troughs (when the flock cometh in to drink), over-against the flock, that they may conceive in their coming in to drink;
[39]And the flocksH6629 conceivedH3179 H8799before the rodsH4731, and brought forthH3205 H8799cattleH6629 ringstrakedH6124, speckledH5348, and spottedH2921.[H8803] [39]and the flocks conceive at the rods, and the flock beareth ring-straked, speckled, and spotted ones.
[40]And JacobH3290 did separateH6504 H8689the lambsH3775, and setH5414 H8799the facesH6440 of the flocksH6629 towardH413 the ringstrakedH6124, and all the brownH2345 in the flockH6629 of LabanH3837; and he putH7896 H8799his own flocksH5739 by themselves, and putH7896 H8804them not unto Laban'sH3837 cattleH6629. [40]And the lambs hath Jacob parted, and he putteth the face of the flock towards the ring-straked, also all the brown in the flock of Laban, and he setteth his own droves by themselves, and hath not set them near Laban's flock.
[41]And it came to pass, whensoever the strongerH7194 H8794cattleH6629 did conceiveH3179 , H8763that JacobH3290 laidH7760 H8804the rodsH4731 before the eyesH5869 of the cattleH6629 in the guttersH7298, that they might conceiveH3179 H8763among the rodsH4731. [41]And it hath come to pass whenever the strong ones of the flock conceive, that Jacob set the rods before the eyes of the flock in the gutters, to cause them to conceive by the rods,
[42]But when the cattleH6629 were feebleH5848 , H8687he put them not inH7760 : H8799so the feeblerH5848 H8803were Laban'sH3837, and the strongerH7194 H8803Jacob'sH3290. [42]and when the flock is feeble, he doth not set [them]; and the feeble ones have been Laban's, and the strong ones Jacob's.
[43]And the manH376 increasedH6555 H8799exceedinglyH3966 , H3966and had muchH7227 cattleH6629, and maidservantsH8198, and menservantsH5650, and camelsH1581, and assesH2543. [43]And the man increaseth very exceedingly, and hath many flocks, and maid-servants, and men-servants, and camels, and asses.
