[1]And he heard the wordes of Labans sonnes saying, Iacob hath take away all that was our fathers, and of our fathers [goodes] hath he gotten all his glorie [1]And he heardH8085 H8799the wordsH1697 of Laban'sH3837 sonsH1121, sayingH559 , H8800JacobH3290 hath taken awayH3947 H8804all that was our father'sH1; and of that which was our father'sH1 hath he gottenH6213 H8804all this gloryH3519.
[2]And Iacob behelde the countenaunce of Laban, and beholde, it was not towardes hym as it was wont to be [2]And JacobH3290 beheldH7200 H8799the countenanceH6440 of LabanH3837, and, behold, it was not toward him asH8543 beforeH8032.
[3]And the Lorde sayde vnto Iacob: turne agayne into the lande of thy fathers, and to thy kynrede, and I wyll be with thee [3]And the LORDH3068 saidH559 H8799unto JacobH3290, ReturnH7725 H8798unto the landH776 of thy fathersH1, and to thy kindred; and I will be with theeH4138.
[4]Therfore Iacob sent, & called Rachel and Lea to the fielde vnto his flocke [4]And JacobH3290 sentH7971 H8799and calledH7121 H8799RachelH7354 and LeahH3812 to the fieldH7704 unto his flockH6629,
[5]And sayde vnto them: I see your fathers countenauce that it is not toward me as it was wont to be: but the God of my father hath ben with me [5]And saidH559 H8799unto them, I seeH7200 H8802your father'sH1 countenanceH6440, that it is not toward me asH8543 beforeH8032; but the GodH430 of my fatherH1 hath beenH1961 with meH8804.
[6]And ye knowe howe I haue serued your father to the best of my power [6]And yeH859 knowH3045 H8804that with all my powerH3581 I have servedH5647 H8804your fatherH1.
[7]But your father hath deceaued me, and chaunged my wages ten tymes: but God suffred hym not to hurt me [7]And your fatherH1 hath deceivedH2048 H8765me, and changedH2498 H8689my wagesH4909 tenH6235 timesH4489; but GodH430 suffered himH5414 H8804not to hurtH7489 H8687meH5978.
[8]When he sayde, the spotted shalbe thy wages: then al the sheepe bare spotted. And when he sayd, the ringstraked shalbe thy rewarde: then bare all the sheepe ringstraked [8]If he saidH559 H8799thus, The speckledH5348 shall be thy wagesH7939; then all the cattleH6629 bareH3205 H8804speckledH5348: and if he saidH559 H8799thus, The ringstrakedH6124 shall be thy hireH7939; then bareH3205 H8804all the cattleH6629 ringstrakedH6124.
[9]Thus hath God taken away the increase of your fathers flocke, and geuen it to me [9]Thus GodH430 hath taken awayH5337 H8686the cattleH4735 of your fatherH1, and givenH5414 them to meH8799.
[10]But in rammyng tyme, I lifted vp myne eyes, and sawe in a dreame, and beholde, the Rammes leaped vpon the sheepe that were ringstraked, spotted, and partie [10]And it came to pass at the timeH6256 that the cattleH6629 conceivedH3179 , H8763that I lifted upH5375 H8799mine eyesH5869, and sawH7200 H8799in a dreamH2472, and, behold, the ramsH6260 which leapedH5927 H8802upon the cattleH6629 were ringstrakedH6124, speckledH5348, and grisledH1261.
[11]And the angell of God spake vnto me in a dreame, saying: Iacob? And I aunswered: here am I [11]And the angelH4397 of GodH430 spakeH559 H8799unto me in a dreamH2472, saying, JacobH3290: And I saidH559, Here am IH8799.
[12]And he sayd: lift vp nowe thyne eyes, and see all the Rammes leapyng vpon the sheepe that are ringstraked, spotted, and partie: for I haue seene all that Laban doth vnto thee [12]And he saidH559 , H8799Lift upH5375 H8798now thine eyesH5869, and seeH7200 , H8798all the ramsH6260 which leapH5927 H8802upon the cattleH6629 are ringstrakedH6124, speckledH5348, and grisledH1261: for I have seenH7200 H8804all that LabanH3837 doethH6213 unto theeH8802.
[13]I am the God of Bethel, where thou annoyntedst the stone set vp on an ende, and where thou vowedst a vowe vnto me: nowe therefore aryse, and get thee out of this countrey, and returne vnto the lande where thou wast borne [13]I am the GodH410 of BethelH1008, where thou anointedstH4886 H8804the pillarH4676, and where thou vowedstH5087 H8804a vowH5088 unto me: now ariseH6965 , H8798get thee outH3318 H8798from this landH776, and returnH7725 H8798unto the landH776 of thy kindredH4138.
[14]Then aunswered Rachel, and Lea, and said vnto him: haue we had as yet any portion or inheritaunce in our fathers house [14]And RachelH7354 and LeahH3812 answeredH6030 H8799and saidH559 H8799unto him, Is there yet any portionH2506 or inheritanceH5159 for us in our father'sH1 houseH1004?
[15]Doth not he count vs euen as straungers? for he hath solde vs, & hath quite deuoured also our money [15]Are we not countedH2803 H8738of him strangersH5237? for he hath soldH4376 H8804us, and hath quiteH398 H8800devouredH398 H8799also our moneyH3701.
[16]Therfore all the ryches whiche God hath taken from our father, that is ours and our chyldrens: nowe then whatsoeuer God hath sayde vnto thee, that do [16]For all the richesH6239 which GodH430 hath takenH5337 H8689from our fatherH1, that is ours, and our children'sH1121: now then, whatsoever GodH430 hath saidH559 H8804unto thee, doH6213.[H8798]
[17]Then Iacob rose vp, & set his sonnes and wyues vp vpon camelles [17]Then JacobH3290 rose upH6965 , H8799and setH5375 H8799his sonsH1121 and his wivesH802 upon camelsH1581;
[18]And caryed away all his flockes, and all his substaunce whiche he had procured, the increase of his cattell which he had gotten in Mesopotamia, for to go to Isahac his father vnto the lande of Chanaan [18]And he carried awayH5090 H8799all his cattleH4735, and all his goodsH7399 which he had gottenH7408 , H8804the cattleH4735 of his gettingH7075, which he had gottenH7408 H8804in PadanaramH6307, for to goH935 H8800to IsaacH3327 his fatherH1 in the landH776 of CanaanH3667.
[19]But Laban was gone to sheare his sheepe: and Rachel had stolen her fathers images [19]And LabanH3837 wentH1980 H8804to shearH1494 H8800his sheepH6629: and RachelH7354 had stolenH1589 H8799the imagesH8655 that were her father'sH1.
[20]And Iacob stale away the heart of Laban the Syrian, in that he tolde him not that he fled [20]And JacobH3290 stole awayH1589 H8799unawaresH3820 to LabanH3837 the SyrianH761, in thatH5921 he toldH5046 H8689him notH1097 that he fledH1272.[H8802]
[21]So fled he, and all that he had, and made hym selfe redy, and passed ouer the ryuer, and set his face strayght towarde the mounte Gilead [21]So he fledH1272 H8799with all that he had; and he rose upH6965 , H8799and passed overH5674 H8799the riverH5104, and setH7760 H8799his faceH6440 toward the mountH2022 GileadH1568.
[22]Upon the thirde day after, was it told Laban that Iacob fled [22]And it was toldH5046 H8714LabanH3837 on the thirdH7992 dayH3117 that JacobH3290 was fledH1272.[H8804]
[23]Then he toke his brethren with him, and folowed after him seuen daies iourney, & ouertoke him at the mounte Gilead [23]And he tookH3947 H8799his brethrenH251 with him, and pursuedH7291 H8799after himH310 sevenH7651 days'H3117 journeyH1870; and they overtookH1692 H8686him in the mountH2022 GileadH1568.
[24]And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dreame by nyght, and sayd vnto him: take heede that thou speake not to Iacob ought saue good [24]And GodH430 cameH935 H8799to LabanH3837 the SyrianH761 in a dreamH2472 by nightH3915, and saidH559 H8799unto him, Take heedH8104 H8734that thou speakH1696 H8762not toH5973 JacobH3290 either goodH2896 orH5704 badH7451.
[25]And Laban ouertoke Iacob, and Iacob had pitched his tent in the mounte: And Laban with his brethren, pitched also vpon the mounte Gilead [25]Then LabanH3837 overtookH5381 H8686JacobH3290. Now JacobH3290 had pitchedH8628 H8804his tentH168 in the mountH2022: and LabanH3837 with his brethrenH251 pitchedH8628 H8804in the mountH2022 of GileadH1568.
[26]And Laban said to Iacob: what hast thou done? for thou hast stollen away my heart, and caryed away my daughters as though they had ben taken captiue with the sworde [26]And LabanH3837 saidH559 H8799to JacobH3290, What hast thou doneH6213 , H8804that thou hast stolen awayH1589 H8799unawaresH3824 to me, and carried awayH5090 H8762my daughtersH1323, as captivesH7617 H8803taken with the swordH2719?
[27]Wherfore wentest thou away secretly vnknowen to me, and dyddest not tell me, that I myght haue let thee go thy way with mirth and songues, with tymbrell and harpe [27]Wherefore didst thou flee awayH1272 H8800secretlyH2244 , H8738and steal awayH1589 H8799from me; and didst not tellH5046 H8689me, that I might have sent thee awayH7971 H8762with mirthH8057, and with songsH7892, with tabretH8596, and with harpH3658?
[28]And hast not suffred me to kysse my chyldren and my daughters? thou wast a foole nowe in so doyng [28]And hast not sufferedH5203 H8804me to kissH5401 H8763my sonsH1121 and my daughtersH1323? thou hast now done foolishlyH5528 H8689in so doingH6213.[H8800]
[29]For it is in my hand through God to do you hurt: But the God of your father spake vnto me yesternight, saying: Take heede that thou speake not to Iacob ought saue good [29]It isH3426 in the powerH410 of my handH3027 to doH6213 H8800you hurtH7451: but the GodH430 of your fatherH1 spakeH559 H8804unto me yesternightH570, sayingH559 , H8800Take thou heedH8104 H8734that thou speak notH1696 H8763to JacobH3290 either goodH2896 or badH7451.
[30]And nowe though thou wouldest nedes be gone away, because thou sore longest after thy fathers house, yet wherfore hast thou stollen my gods [30]And now, though thou wouldest needsH1980 H8800be goneH1980 , H8804because thou soreH3700 H8736longedstH3700 H8738after thy father'sH1 houseH1004, yet wherefore hast thou stolenH1589 H8804my godsH430?
[31]Iacob aunswered and sayde to Laban: because I was afrayde, & thought that peraduenture thou wouldest take away thy daughters from me [31]And JacobH3290 answeredH6030 H8799and saidH559 H8799to LabanH3837, Because I was afraidH3372 : H8804for I saidH559 , H8804PeradventureH6435 thou wouldest take by forceH1497 H8799thy daughters from meH1323.
[32]But with whomsoeuer thou findest thy gods, let hym dye. Here before our brethren, seeke that thyne is by me, and take it to thee: But Iacob wyst not that Rachel had stolen them [32]With whomsoeverH834 thou findestH4672 H8799thy godsH430, let him not liveH2421 : H8799beforeH5048 our brethrenH251 discernH5234 H8685thou what is thine with me, and takeH3947 H8798it to thee. For JacobH3290 knewH3045 H8804not that RachelH7354 had stolenH1589 themH8804.
[33]Then went Laban into Iacobs tent, and into Leas tent, and into the two maydseruaunts tentes: but found them not. Then went he out of Leas tent, and entred into Rachels tent [33]And LabanH3837 wentH935 H8799into Jacob'sH3290 tentH168, and into Leah'sH3812 tentH168, and into the twoH8147 maidservants'H519 tentsH168; but he foundH4672 H8804them not. Then went he outH3318 H8799of Leah'sH3812 tentH168, and enteredH935 H8799into Rachel'sH7354 tentH168.
[34]And Rachel had taken the images, and put them in the camelles strawe, & sate downe vpon them: And Laban tossed vp all ye tent, but found them not [34]Now RachelH7354 had takenH3947 H8804the imagesH8655, and putH7760 H8799them in the camel'sH1581 furnitureH3733, and satH3427 H8799upon them. And LabanH3837 searchedH4959 H8762all the tentH168, but foundH4672 them notH8804.
[35]Then sayde she to her father: my Lord, be not angry that I can not ryse vp before thee, for the custome of women is come vpon me. So searched he, but founde not those images [35]And she saidH559 H8799to her fatherH1, Let it not displeaseH2734[H8799] H5869my lordH113 that I cannotH3201 H8799rise upH6965 H8800before theeH6440; for the customH1870 of womenH802 is upon me. And he searchedH2664 , H8762but foundH4672 H8804not the imagesH8655.
[36]And Iacob was wroth, and chode with Laban. Iacob also aunswered and sayd to him: what haue I trespassed? or what haue I offended thee, that thou doest sore pursue after me [36]And JacobH3290 was wrothH2734 , H8799and chodeH7378 H8799with LabanH3837: and JacobH3290 answeredH6030 H8799and saidH559 H8799to LabanH3837, What is my trespassH6588? what is my sinH2403, that thou hast so hotly pursuedH1814 H8804after meH310?
[37]Thou hast tossed vp all my stuffe, and what hast thou founde of all thy householde stuffe? put it here before thy brethren and my brethren, that they may iudge betwixt vs both [37]WhereasH3588 thou hast searchedH4959 H8765all my stuffH3627, what hast thou foundH4672 H8804of all thy householdH1004 stuffH3627? setH7760 H8798it hereH3541 before my brethrenH251 and thy brethrenH251, that they may judgeH3198 H8686betwixtH996 us bothH8147.
[38]Behold, this twentie yere haue I ben with thee, thy sheepe and thy goates haue not ben barren, and the rammes of thy flocke haue I not eaten [38]This twentyH6242 yearsH8141 have I been with thee; thy ewesH7353 and thy she goatsH5795 have not cast their youngH7921 , H8765and the ramsH352 of thy flockH6629 have I not eatenH398.[H8804]
[39]Whatsoeuer was torne [of beastes] I brought it not vnto thee, but made it good my selfe: of my hande diddest thou require it that was stolen by day or nyght [39]That which was tornH2966 of beasts I broughtH935 H8689not unto thee; I bare the lossH2398 H8762of it; of my handH3027 didst thou requireH1245 H8762it, whether stolenH1589 H8803by dayH3117, or stolenH1589 H8803by nightH3915.
[40]I was in suche case, that by day the heate consumed me, and the frost by nyght, and my slepe departed from mine eyes [40]Thus I was; in the dayH3117 the droughtH2721 consumedH398 H8804me, and the frostH7140 by nightH3915; and my sleepH8142 departedH5074 H8799from mine eyesH5869.
[41]Thus haue I ben twentie yere in thy house, and serued thee fourteene yeres for thy two daughters, and sixe yere for thy sheepe, and thou hast chaunged my rewarde ten tymes [41]Thus have I been twentyH6242 yearsH8141 in thy houseH1004; I served theeH5647 H8804fourteenH702 H6240yearsH8141 for thy twoH8147 daughtersH1323, and sixH8337 yearsH8141 for thy cattleH6629: and thou hast changedH2498 H8686my wagesH4909 tenH6235 timesH4489.
[42]And except the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the feare of Isahac had ben with me, surely thou haddest sent me away nowe all emptie: but God behelde my tribulation and the labour of my handes, and rebuked [thee] yesternyght [42]ExceptH3884 the GodH430 of my fatherH1, the GodH430 of AbrahamH85, and the fearH6343 of IsaacH3327, had been with me, surely thou hadst sent me awayH7971 H8765now emptyH7387. GodH430 hath seenH7200 H8804mine afflictionH6040 and the labourH3018 of my handsH3709, and rebukedH3198 H8686thee yesternightH570.
[43]And Laban aunswered and sayd vnto Iacob: these daughters are my daughters, and these chyldren are my chyldren, & these sheepe are my sheepe, and all that thou seest is myne: and what can I do this day vnto these my daughters, or vnto their children which they haue borne [43]And LabanH3837 answeredH6030 H8799and saidH559 H8799unto JacobH3290, These daughtersH1323 are my daughtersH1323, and these childrenH1121 are my childrenH1121, and these cattleH6629 are my cattleH6629, and all that thou seestH7200 H8802is mine: and what can I doH6213 H8799this dayH3117 unto these my daughtersH1323, orH176 unto their childrenH1121 which they have bornH3205?[H8804]
[44]Nowe therfore come on, and let vs make a league I and thou, which may be a wytnesse betwene me and thee [44]Now therefore come thouH3212 , H8798let us makeH3772 H8799a covenantH1285, I and thou; and let it be for a witness between me and theeH5707.
[45]Then toke Iacob a stone, and set it vp on ende [45]And JacobH3290 tookH3947 H8799a stoneH68, and set it upH7311 H8686for a pillarH4676.
[46]And Iacob sayde vnto his brethren: gather stones. And they toke stones, and made an heape: and they dyd eate there vpon the heape [46]And JacobH3290 saidH559 H8799unto his brethrenH251, GatherH3950 H8798stonesH68; and they tookH3947 H8799stonesH68, and madeH6213 H8799an heapH1530: and they did eatH398 H8799there upon the heapH1530.
[47]And Laban called it Iegar Sahadutha: but Iacob called it Galeed [47]And LabanH3837 calledH7121 H8799it JegarsahaduthaH3026: but JacobH3290 calledH7121 H8804it GaleedH1567.
[48]Then saide Laban: this heape is witnesse betwene thee and me this day, therfore it is called Galeed [48]And LabanH3837 saidH559 , H8799This heapH1530 is a witnessH5707 between me and thee this dayH3117. Therefore was the nameH8034 of it calledH7121 H8804GaleedH1567;
[49]And Mispah: for he said, the Lord loke betwene thee and me when we are departed one from another [49]And MizpahH4709; forH834 he saidH559 , H8804The LORDH3068 watchH6822 H8799between me and thee, when we are absentH5641 H8735oneH376 from anotherH7453.
[50]If thou shalt vexe my daughters, or shalt take other wyues beside my daughters: here is no man with vs, beholde, God [is] wytnesse betwixt me and thee [50]If thou shalt afflictH6031 H8762my daughtersH1323, or if thou shalt takeH3947 H8799other wivesH802 besideH5921 my daughtersH1323, no manH376 is with us; seeH7200 , H8798GodH430 is witness betwixt me and theeH5707.
[51]And Laban sayde moreouer to Iacob: beholde this heape, and this stone set vp on ende, whiche I haue layde betwixt me and thee [51]And LabanH3837 saidH559 H8799to JacobH3290, Behold this heapH1530, and behold this pillarH4676, which I have castH3384 betwixt me and theeH8804;
[52]This heape be witnesse, and also this stone set vp on ende, that I wyll not come ouer this heape to thee, and thou shalt not come ouer this heape and this stone set vp on ende vnto me, to do any harme [52]This heapH1530 be witnessH5707, and this pillarH4676 be witnessH5713, that I will not pass overH5674 H8799this heapH1530 to thee, and that thou shalt not pass overH5674 H8799this heapH1530 and this pillarH4676 unto me, for harmH7451.
[53]The God of Abraham, and the God of Nachor, and the God of theyr father, be iudge betwixt vs. And Iacob sware by the feare of his father Isahac [53]The GodH430 of AbrahamH85, and the GodH430 of NahorH5152, the GodH430 of their fatherH1, judgeH8199 H8799betwixt us. And JacobH3290 swareH7650 H8735by the fearH6343 of his fatherH1 IsaacH3327.
[54]Then Iacob dyd sacrifice vpon the mounte, and called his brethren to eate bread: and they did eate bread, and taryed all nyght in the hyll [54]Then JacobH3290 offeredH2076 H8799sacrificeH2077 upon the mountH2022, and calledH7121 H8799his brethrenH251 to eatH398 H8800breadH3899: and they did eatH398 H8799breadH3899, and tarried all nightH3885 H8799in the mountH2022.
[55]And early in the mornyng Laban rose vp, and kyssed his sonnes and his daughters, and blessed them: and Laban departyng, went into his place agayne [55]And earlyH7925 in the morningH1242 LabanH3837 rose upH7925 , H8686and kissedH5401 H8762his sonsH1121 and his daughtersH1323, and blessedH1288 H8762them: and LabanH3837 departedH3212 , H8799and returnedH7725 H8799unto his placeH4725.
