| [1]Now faith is the ground of things, which are hoped for, and the evidence of things which are not seen. |
[1]איתיה דינ הימנותא פיסא על אילינ דאיתיהינ בסברא איכ הו דהוי להינ בסוערנא וגלינא דאילינ דלא מתחזינ |
| [2]For by it our elders were well reported of. |
[2]ובהדא הות סהדותא על קשׁישׁא |
| [3]Through faith we understand that the world was ordained by the word of God, so that the things which we see, are not made of things which did appear. |
[3]בהימנותא גיר מסתכליננ דאתתקנו עלמא במלתא דאלהא והלינ דמתחזינ הוי מנ אילינ דלא מתחזינ |
| [4]By faith Abel offered unto God a greater sacrifice than Cain, by the which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: by the which faith also he being dead, yet speaketh. |
[4]בהימנותא קרב הביל דבחתא דמיתרא טב מנ דקאינ לאלהא ומטלתה הות עלוהי סהדותא דכאנא הו וסהד על קורבנה אלהא ומטלתה אפ כד מיית ממלל |
| [5]By faith was Enoch taken away, that he should not see death: neither was he found: for God had taken him away: for before he was taken away, he was reported of, that he had pleased God. |
[5]בהימנותא אשׁתני חנוכ ומותא לא טעמ ולא אשׁתכח מטל דשׁניה אלהא מנ קדמ דנשׁניוהי גיר הות עלוהי סהדותא דשׁפר לאלהא |
| [6]But without faith it is unpossible to please him: for he that cometh to God, must believe that God is, and that he is a rewarder of them that seek him. |
[6]דלא הימנותא דינ לא אנשׁ משׁכח דנשׁפר לאלהא חיב הו גיר מנ דמתקרב לות אלהא דנהימנ דאיתוהי ולאילינ דבעינ לה הוא פרועא |
| [7]By faith Noah being warned of God of the things which were as yet not seen, moved with reverence, prepared the Ark to the saving of his household, through the which Ark he condemned the world, and was made heir of the righteousness, which is by faith. |
[7]בהימנותא נוח כד אתמלל עמה על אילינ דלא מתחזינ הוי דחל ועבד לה קבותא לחיא דבני ביתה דבה חיבה לעלמא והוא ירתא דכאנותא דבהימנותא |
| [8]By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed God, to go out into a place, which he should afterward receive for inheritance, and he went out, not knowing whether he went. |
[8]בהימנותא אברהמ כד אתקרי אשׁתמע דנפוק לאתרא הו דעתיד הוא דנסב לירתותא ונפק כד לא ידע הוא לאיכא אזל |
| [9]By faith he abode in the land of promise, as in a strange country, as one that dwelt in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. |
[9]בהימנותא הוא תותבא בארעא הי דאתמלכת לה איכ דבנוכריתא ובמשׁכנא עמר עמ איסחק ויעקוב בני ירתותא דילה דמולכנא |
| [10]For he looked for a city having a foundation, whose builder and maker is God. |
[10]מסכא הוא גיר למדינתא דשׁתאסתא אית לה דאומנה ועבודה אלהא הו |
| [11]Through faith Sara also received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful which had promised. |
[11]בהימנותא אפ סרא דעקרתא הות נסבת חילא דתקבל זרעא ודלא בזבנא דשׁניה ילדת על דאשׁרת דמהימנ הו הו דמלכ לה |
| [12]And therefore sprang there of one, even of one which was dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand of the sea shore which is innumerable. |
[12]מטל הנא מנ חד דבטל בסיבותא אתילדו סגיאא איכ כוכבא דבשׁמיא ואיכ חלא דעל ספתה דימא דמנינ לית לה |
| [13]All these died in faith, and received not the promises, but saw them afar off, and believed them, and received them thankfully, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. |
[13]בהימנותא מיתו הלינ כלהונ ולא נסבו מולכנהונ אלא מנ רוחקא חזאוהי וחדיו בה ואודיו דאכסניא אנונ ותותבא בארעא |
| [14]For they that say such things, declare plainly, that they seek a country. |
[14]אילינ דינ דהלינ אמרינ מחוינ דלמדינתהונ בעינ |
| [15]And if they had been mindful of that country, from whence they came out, they had leisure to have returned. |
[15]ואלו למדינתא הי דנפקו מנה בעינ הוו אית הוא להונ זבנא דתוב נהפכונ נאזלונ לה |
| [16]But now they desire a better, that is an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed of them to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city. |
[16]השׁא דינ ידיעא דלדטבא מנה רגינ הוו להי דאיתיה בשׁמיא מטל הנא לא נכפ אלהא דאלההונ נתקרא טיב להונ גיר מדינתא |
| [17]By faith Abraham offered up Isaac, when he was tried, and he that had received the promises, offered his only begotten son. |
[17]בהימנותא קרב אברהמ לאיסחק בנסיונה וליחידה אסק למדבחא להו דקבל הוא במולכנא |
| [18](To whom it was said, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.) |
[18]אתאמר הוא לה גיר דבאיסחק נתקרא לכ זרעא |
| [19]For he considered that God was able to raise him up even from the dead: from whence he received him also after a sort. |
[19]ואתרעי הוא בנפשׁה דמטיא באידוהי דאלהא אפ מנ מיתא למקמו ומטל הנא במתלא אתיהב לה |
| [20]By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau, concerning things to come. |
[20]בהימנותא דמדמ דעתיד הוא ברכ איסחק ליעקוב ולעסו |
| [21]By faith Jacob when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph, and leaning on the end of his staff, worshipped God. |
[21]בהימנותא כד מאת יעקוב ברכ לכל חד חד מנ בנוהי דיוספ וסגד על רישׁ חוטרה |
| [22]By faith Joseph when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel, and gave commandment of his bones. |
[22]בהימנותא יוספ כד מאת עהד למפקתא דבני איסריל ופקד על גרמוהי |
| [23]By faith Moses when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child, neither feared they the King's commandment. |
[23]בהימנותא אבהוהי דמושׁא טשׁיוהי כד אתילד ירחא תלתא דחזו דשׁפיר הוא טליא ולא דחלו מנ פוקדנא דמלכא |
| [24]By faith Moses when he was come to age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, |
[24]בהימנותא מושׁא כד הוא גברא כפר דלא נתקרא ברא לברתה דפרעונ |
| [25]And chose rather to suffer adversity with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sins for a season, |
[25]וגבא לה דבאולצנא עמ עמה דאלהא נהוא ולא דזבנ זעור נתבסמ בחטיתא |
| [26]Esteeming the rebuke of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompense of the reward. |
[26]ואתרעי דמיתר הו עותרא דחסדה דמשׁיחא טב מנ סימתה דמצרינ חאר הוא גיר בפורענ אגרא |
| [27]By faith he forsook Egypt, and feared not the fierceness of the king: for he endured, as he that saw him which is invisible. |
[27]בהימנותא שׁבקה למצרינ ולא דחל מנ חמתה דמלכא וסיבר איכ הו דחזא הוא לאלהא דלא מתחזא |
| [28]Through faith he ordained the Passover and the effusion of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn, should touch them. |
[28]בהימנותא עבד פצחא ורסס דמא דלא נתקרב להונ הו דמחבל הוא בוכרא |
| [29]By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land, which when the Egyptians had assayed to do, they were drowned. |
[29]בהימנותא עברו ימא-דסופ איכ דעל ארעא יבישׁתא ובה אתבלעו מצריא כד אמרחו עלוהי |
| [30]By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they were compassed about seven days. |
[30]בהימנותא שׁוריה דאיריחו נפלו מנ דאתכרכו שׁבעא יומינ |
| [31]By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them which obeyed not, when she had received the spies peaceably. |
[31]בהימנותא רחב זניתא לא אבדת עמ הנונ דלא אשׁתמעו דקבלת לגשׁושׁא בשׁלמא |
| [32]And what shall I more say? for the time would be too short for me to tell of Gideon, of Barak, and of Sampson, and of Jephthah, also of David, and Samuel, and of the Prophets: |
[32]ומנא תוב אמר זעור הו לי גיר זבנא דאשׁתעא על גדעונ ועל ברק ועל שׁמשׁונ ועל נפתח ועל דויד ועל שׁמואיל ועל שׁרכא דנביא |
| [33]Which through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained the promises, stopped the mouths of lions, |
[33]אילינ דבהימנותא זכו למלכותא ופלחו כאנותא וקבלו מולכנא וסכרו פומא דאריותא |
| [34]Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, of weak were made strong, waxed valiant in battle, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. |
[34]ודעכו חילא דנורא ואתפציו מנ פומא דסיפא ואתחילו מנ כורהנא והוו חילתנא בקרבא וסחפו משׁריתא דבעלדבבא |
| [35]The women received their dead raised to life: other also were racked, and would not be delivered, that they might receive a better resurrection. |
[35]ויהבו לנשׁא בניהינ מנ קימתא דמיתא ואחרנא בשׁנדא מיתו ולא סכיו למתפציו דקימתא מיתרתא תהוא להונ |
| [36]And others have been tried by mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover by bonds and prisonment. |
[36]אחרנא דינ לבזחא ולנגדא עלו אחרנא לאסורא ולחבושׁיא אשׁתלמו |
| [37]They were stoned, they were hewn asunder, they were tempted, they were slain with the sword, they wandered up and down in sheepskins, and in goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, and tormented: |
[37]אחרנא אתרגמו אחרנא אתנסרו אחרנא בפומא דסיפא מיתו אחרנא אתכרכו כד לבישׁינ משׁכא דאמרא ודעזא וסניקינ ואליצינ ומטרפינ |
| [38]Whom the world was not worthy of: they wandered in wildernesses and mountains, and dens, and caves of the earth. |
[38]אנשׁא דלא שׁוא הוא להונ עלמא והוו איכ טעיא בחורבא ובטורא ובמערא ובפעריה דארעא |
| [39]And these all through faith obtained good report, and received not the promise, |
[39]והלינ כלהונ דהות עליהונ סהדותא בהימנותהונ לא קבלו מולכנא |
| [40]God providing a better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect. |
[40]מטל דאלהא קדמ חר בעודרננ דילנ דלא בלעדינ נתגמרונ |
