[1]IsraelH3478 is an emptyH1238[H8802] vineH1612, he bringeth forthH7737[H8762] fruitH6529 unto himself: according to the multitudeH7230 of his fruitH6529 he hath increasedH7235[H8689] the altarsH4196; according to the goodnessH2896 of his landH776 they have made goodlyH2895[H8689] imagesH4676. |
[1]Israel is an empty vine, he bringeth forth fruit to himself: according to the multitude of his fruit he hath multiplied the altars; according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly images. |
[2]Their heartH3820 is dividedH2505[H8804]; now shall they be found faultyH816[H8799]: he shall break downH6202[H8799] their altarsH4196, he shall spoilH7703[H8779] their imagesH4676. |
[2]Their heart is divided; now shall they be found faulty: he shall break down their altars, he shall spoil their images. |
[3]For now they shall sayH559[H8799], We have no kingH4428, because we fearedH3372[H8804] not the LORDH3068; what then should a kingH4428 doH6213 to usH8799? |
[3]For now they shall say, We have no king, because we feared not the LORD; what then should a king do to us? |
[4]They have spokenH1696[H8765] wordsH1697, swearingH422[H8800] falselyH7723 in makingH3772[H8800] a covenantH1285: thus judgmentH4941 springeth upH6524[H8804] as hemlockH7219 in the furrowsH8525 of the fieldH7704. |
[4]They have spoken words, swearing falsely in making a covenant: thus judgment springeth up as hemlock in the furrows of the field. |
[5]The inhabitantsH7934 of SamariaH8111 shall fearH1481[H8799] because of the calvesH5697 of BethavenH1007: for the peopleH5971 thereof shall mournH56[H8804] over it, and the priestsH3649 thereof that rejoicedH1523[H8799] on it, for the gloryH3519 thereof, because it is departedH1540 from itH8804. |
[5]The inhabitants of Samaria shall fear because of the calves of Beth-aven: for its people shall mourn over it, and its priests that rejoiced on it, for its glory, because it is departed from it. |
[6]It shall be also carriedH2986[H8714] unto AssyriaH804 for a presentH4503 to kingH4428 JarebH3377: EphraimH669 shall receiveH3947[H8799] shameH1317, and IsraelH3478 shall be ashamedH954[H8799] of his own counselH6098. |
[6]It shall also be carried to Assyria, for a present to king Jareb: Ephraim shall receive shame, and Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel. |
[7]As for SamariaH8111, her kingH4428 is cut offH1820[H8738] as the foamH7110 uponH6440 the waterH4325. |
[7]As for Samaria, her king is cut off as the foam upon the water. |
[8]The high placesH1116 also of AvenH206, the sinH2403 of IsraelH3478, shall be destroyedH8045[H8738]: the thornH6975 and the thistleH1863 shall come upH5927[H8799] on their altarsH4196; and they shall sayH559[H8804] to the mountainsH2022, CoverH3680[H8761] us; and to the hillsH1389, FallH5307 on usH8798. |
[8]The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us. |
[9]O IsraelH3478, thou hast sinnedH2398[H8804] from the daysH3117 of GibeahH1390: there they stoodH5975[H8804]: the battleH4421 in GibeahH1390 against the childrenH1121 of iniquityH5932 did not overtakeH5381 themH8686. |
[9]O Israel, thou hast sinned from the days of Gibeah: there they stood: the battle in Gibeah against the children of iniquity did not overtake them. |
[10]It is in my desireH185 that I should chastiseH3256[H8799] them; and the peopleH5971 shall be gatheredH622[H8795] against them, when they shall bindH631[H8800] themselves in their twoH8147 furrowsH5869. |
[10]It is in my desire that I should chastise them; and the people shall be gathered against them, when they shall bind themselves in their two furrows. |
[11]And EphraimH669 is as an heiferH5697 that is taughtH3925[H8794], and lovethH157[H8802] to tread outH1758[H8800] the corn; but I passed overH5674[H8804] upon her fairH2898 neckH6677: I will make EphraimH669 to rideH7392[H8686]; JudahH3063 shall plowH2790[H8799], and JacobH3290 shall break his clodsH7702.[H8762] |
[11]And Ephraim is as a heifer that is taught, and loveth to tread out the corn; but I passed over upon her fair neck: I will make Ephraim to ride; Judah shall plow, and Jacob shall break his clods. |
[12]SowH2232[H8798] to yourselves in righteousnessH6666, reapH7114[H8798] inH6310 mercyH2617; break upH5214[H8798] your fallow groundH5215: for it is timeH6256 to seekH1875[H8800] the LORDH3068, till he comeH935[H8799] and rainH3384[H8686] righteousness upon youH6664. |
[12]Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he shall come and reign righteousness upon you. |
[13]Ye have plowedH2790[H8804] wickednessH7562, ye have reapedH7114[H8804] iniquityH5766; ye have eatenH398[H8804] the fruitH6529 of liesH3585: because thou didst trustH982[H8804] in thy wayH1870, in the multitudeH7230 of thy mighty menH1368. |
[13]Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because thou hast trusted in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men. |
[14]Therefore shall a tumultH7588 ariseH6965[H8804] among thy peopleH5971, and all thy fortressesH4013 shall be spoiledH7703[H8714], as ShalmanH8020 spoiledH7701 BetharbelH1009 in the dayH3117 of battleH4421: the motherH517 was dashed in piecesH7376[H8795] upon her childrenH1121. |
[14]Therefore shall a tumult arise among thy people, and all thy fortresses shall be plundered, as Shalman plundered Beth-arbel in the day of battle: the mother was dashed in pieces upon her children. |
[15]SoH3602 shall BethelH1008 doH6213[H8804] unto you becauseH6440 of your greatH7451 wickednessH7451: in a morningH7837 shall the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 utterlyH1820[H8736] be cut offH1820.[H8738] |
[15]So shall Beth-el do to you because of your great wickedness: in a morning shall the king of Israel be utterly cut off. |
