[1]When Ephraim spake, there was trembling: he exalted himself in Israel, but he hath sinned in Baal, and is dead. [1]When EphraimH669 spakeH1696[H8763] tremblingH7578, he exaltedH5375[H8804] himself in IsraelH3478; but when he offendedH816[H8799] in BaalH1168, he diedH4191.[H8799]
[2]And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, and idols according to their own understanding: they were all the work of the craftsmen: they say one to another whiles they sacrifice a man, Let them kiss the calves. [2]And now they sinH2398[H8800] more and moreH3254[H8686], and have madeH6213[H8799] them molten imagesH4541 of their silverH3701, and idolsH6091 according to their own understandingH8394, all of it the workH4639 of the craftsmenH2796: they sayH559[H8802] of them, Let the menH120 that sacrificeH2076[H8802] kissH5401[H8799] the calvesH5695.
[3]Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the morning dew that passeth away, as the chaff that is driven with a whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke that goeth out of the chimney. [3]Therefore they shall be as the morningH1242 cloudH6051, and as the earlyH7925[H8688] dewH2919 that passeth awayH1980[H8802], as the chaffH4671 that is driven with the whirlwindH5590[H8792] out of the floorH1637, and as the smokeH6227 out of the chimneyH699.
[4]Yet I am the Lord thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no God but me: for there is no Savior beside me. [4]Yet I am the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 from the landH776 of EgyptH4714, and thou shalt knowH3045[H8799] no godH430 but meH2108: for there is no saviourH3467[H8688] beside meH1115.
[5]I did know thee in the wilderness, in the land of drought. [5]I did knowH3045[H8804] thee in the wildernessH4057, in the landH776 of great droughtH8514.
[6]As in their pastures, so were they filled: they were filled, and their heart was exalted: therefore have they forgotten me. [6]According to their pastureH4830, so were they filledH7646[H8799]; they were filledH7646[H8804], and their heartH3820 was exaltedH7311[H8799]; therefore have they forgottenH7911 meH8804.
[7]And I will be unto them as a very lion, and as a leopard in the way of Assyria. [7]Therefore I will be unto them as a lionH7826: as a leopardH5246 by the wayH1870 will I observeH7789 themH8799:
[8]I will meet them, as a bear that is robbed of her whelps, and I will break the caul of their heart, and there will I devour them like a lion: the wild beast shall tear them. [8]I will meetH6298[H8799] them as a bearH1677 that is bereavedH7909 of her whelps, and will rendH7167[H8799] the caulH5458 of their heartH3820, and there will I devourH398[H8799] them like a lionH3833: the wildH7704 beastH2416 shall tearH1234 themH8762.
[9]O Israel, one hath destroyed thee, but in me is thine help. [9]O IsraelH3478, thou hast destroyedH7843[H8765] thyself; but in me is thine helpH5828.
[10]I am: where is thy king that should help thee in all thy cities? And thy judges, of whom thou saidest, Give me a king, and princes? [10]I willH165 be thy kingH4428: whereH645 is any other that may saveH3467[H8686] thee in all thy citiesH5892? and thy judgesH8199[H8802] of whom thou saidstH559[H8804], GiveH5414[H8798] me a kingH4428 and princesH8269?
[11]I gave thee a king in mine anger, and I took him away in my wrath. [11]I gaveH5414[H8799] thee a kingH4428 in mine angerH639, and tookH3947[H8799] him away in my wrathH5678.
[12]The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up: his sin is hid. [12]The iniquityH5771 of EphraimH669 is bound upH6887[H8803]; his sinH2403 is hidH6845.[H8803]
[13]The sorrows of a travailing woman shall come upon him: he is an unwise son, else would he not stand still at the time, even at the breaking forth of the children. [13]The sorrowsH2256 of a travailing womanH3205[H8802] shall comeH935[H8799] upon him: he is an unwiseH2450 sonH1121; for he should not stayH5975[H8799] longH6256 in the place of the breaking forthH4866 of childrenH1121.
[14]I will redeem them from the power of the grave: I will deliver them from death: O death, I will be thy death: O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance is hid from mine eyes. [14]I will ransomH6299[H8799] them from the powerH3027 of the graveH7585; I will redeemH1350[H8799] them from deathH4194: O deathH4194, I willH165 be thy plaguesH1698; O graveH7585, I willH165 be thy destructionH6987: repentanceH5164 shall be hidH5641[H8735] from mine eyesH5869.
[15]Though he grew up among his brethren, an east wind shall come, even the wind of the Lord shall come up from the wilderness, and dry up his vein, and his fountain shall be dried up: he shall spoil the treasure of all pleasant vessels. [15]Though he be fruitfulH6500[H8686] among his brethrenH251, an east windH6921 shall comeH935[H8799], the windH7307 of the LORDH3068 shall come upH5927[H8802] from the wildernessH4057, and his springH4726 shall become dryH954[H8799], and his fountainH4599 shall be dried upH2717[H8799]: he shall spoilH8154[H8799] the treasureH214 of all pleasantH2532 vesselsH3627.
[16]Samaria shall be desolate: for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped. [16]SamariaH8111 shall become desolateH816[H8799]; for she hath rebelledH4784[H8804] against her GodH430: they shall fallH5307[H8799] by the swordH2719: their infantsH5768 shall be dashed in piecesH7376[H8792], and their women with childH2030 shall be ripped upH1234.[H8792]
