Peshitta (Lamsa, 1933)
Pes(Lam)
[1]The burdenH4853 of TyreH6865. HowlH3213[H8685], ye shipsH591 of TarshishH8659; for it is laid wasteH7703[H8795], so that there is no houseH1004, no entering inH935[H8800]: from the landH776 of ChittimH3794 it is revealedH1540 to themH8738. [1]THE prophecy concerning the fall of Tyre. Howl, O ships of Tarshish! for he who brings merchandise is plundered; from the land of China the news has been revealed to us.
[2]Be stillH1826[H8798], ye inhabitantsH3427[H8802] of the isleH339; thou whom the merchantsH5503[H8802] of ZidonH6721, that pass overH5674[H8802] the seaH3220, have replenishedH4390.[H8765] [2]Be still, O inhabitants of the islands, the merchants of Zidon that passed over the sea.
[3]And by greatH7227 watersH4325 the seedH2233 of SihorH7883, the harvestH7105 of the riverH2975, is her revenueH8393; and she is a martH5505 of nationsH1471. [3]Your commerce is on many waters, O offspring of merchants; the harvest of the river is her revenue, and she is a mart of nations.
[4]Be thou ashamedH954[H8798], O ZidonH6721: for the seaH3220 hath spokenH559[H8804], even the strengthH4581 of the seaH3220, sayingH559[H8800], I travailH2342[H8804] not, nor bring forth childrenH3205[H8804], neither do I nourish upH1431[H8765] young menH970, nor bring upH7311[H8790] virginsH1330. [4]Be ashamed, O Zidon; for the sea has spoken, even the strength of the sea, saying, I have neither been in travail nor have I given birth to children, neither have I reared young men nor brought up virgins.
[5]As at the reportH8088 concerning EgyptH4714, so shall they be sorely painedH2342[H8799] at the reportH8088 of TyreH6865. [5]When the news reaches Egypt, they will be in pain over the report of Tyre.
[6]Pass ye overH5674[H8798] to TarshishH8659; howlH3213[H8685], ye inhabitantsH3427[H8802] of the isleH339. [6]Pass over to Tarshish; howl, O you inhabitants of the islands.
[7]Is this your joyousH5947 city, whose antiquityH6927 is of ancientH6924 daysH3117? her own feetH7272 shall carryH2986[H8686] her afar offH7350 to sojournH1481.[H8800] [7]Is this your mighty city, whose antiquity is of ancient days? Her own feet shall carry her afar off to sojourn.
[8]Who hath taken this counselH3289[H8804] against TyreH6865, the crowningH5849[H8688] city, whose merchantsH5503[H8802] are princesH8269, whose traffickersH3667 are the honourableH3513[H8737] of the earthH776? [8]Who has taken this counsel against Tyre, the crowning city, whose merchants are princes, whose traders are the honorable of the earth?
[9]The LORDH3068 of hostsH6635 hath purposedH3289[H8804] it, to stainH2490[H8763] the prideH1347 of all gloryH6643, and to bring into contemptH7043[H8687] all the honourableH3513[H8737] of the earthH776. [9]The LORD of hosts has purposed it, to bring to an end the glory of every mighty man and to bring into dishonor all the honorable men of the earth.
[10]PassH5674[H8798] through thy landH776 as a riverH2975, O daughterH1323 of TarshishH8659: there is no more strengthH4206. [10]Pass through your land like a river, O daughter of Tarshish; there is no one to drive you away.
[11]He stretched outH5186[H8804] his handH3027 over the seaH3220, he shookH7264[H8689] the kingdomsH4467: the LORDH3068 hath given a commandmentH6680[H8765] against the merchantH3667 city, to destroyH8045[H8687] the strongH4581 holds thereofH4581. [11]He stretched out his hand over the sea, he shook the kingdoms; the LORD has given a commandment against Canaan to destroy its mighty men.
[12]And he saidH559[H8799], Thou shalt no moreH3254[H8686] rejoiceH5937[H8800], O thou oppressedH6231[H8794] virginH1330, daughterH1323 of ZidonH6721: ariseH6965[H8798], pass overH5674[H8798] to ChittimH3794; there also shalt thou have no restH5117.[H8799] [12]And he said, You shall no more become mighty, O you oppressed virgin, daughter of Zidon; arise, pass over to China; there also you shall have no rest.
[13]Behold the landH776 of the ChaldeansH3778; this peopleH5971 was not, till the AssyrianH804 foundedH3245[H8804] it for them that dwell in the wildernessH6728: they set upH6965[H8689] the towersH971 thereof, they raised upH6209[H8782] the palacesH759 thereof; and he broughtH7760[H8804] it to ruinH4654. [13]Behold the land of the Chaldeans; this is the people, and not the Assyrians, who destroyed it; they appointed spies who spied on her palaces, and they brought it to ruin.
[14]HowlH3213[H8685], ye shipsH591 of TarshishH8659: for your strengthH4581 is laid wasteH7703.[H8795] [14]Howl, O ships of Tarshish; for your stronghold is plundered
[15]And it shall come to pass in that dayH3117, that TyreH6865 shall be forgottenH7911[H8737] seventyH7657 yearsH8141, according to the daysH3117 of oneH259 kingH4428: after the endH7093 of seventyH7657 yearsH8141 shall TyreH6865 singH7892 as an harlotH2181.[H8802] [15]And it shall come to pass in that day that Tyre shall be forgotten for seventy years, according to the days of one king; after the end of seventy years they shall sing to Tyre a harlot's song.
[16]TakeH3947[H8798] an harpH3658, go aboutH5437[H8798] the cityH5892, thou harlotH2181[H8802] that hast been forgottenH7911[H8737]; make sweetH3190[H8685] melodyH5059[H8763], sing manyH7235[H8685] songsH7892, that thou mayest be rememberedH2142.[H8735] [16]Take a harp, go about the city, O you harlot that has been forgotten; play sweet melodies, sing many songs, that you may be remembered.
[17]And it shall come to pass after the endH7093 of seventyH7657 yearsH8141, that the LORDH3068 will visitH6485[H8799] TyreH6865, and she shall turnH7725[H8804] to her hireH868, and shall commit fornicationH2181[H8804] with all the kingdomsH4467 of the worldH776 upon the faceH6440 of the earthH127. [17]And it shall come to pass at the end of seventy years that the LORD will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to her traffic and commit fornications with all the kingdoms that are upon the face of the earth.
[18]And her merchandiseH5504 and her hireH868 shall be holinessH6944 to the LORDH3068: it shall not be treasuredH686[H8735] nor laid upH2630[H8735]; for her merchandiseH5504 shall be for them that dwellH3427[H8802] beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, to eatH398[H8800] sufficientlyH7654, and for durableH6266 clothingH4374. [18]And her merchandise and her hire shall be sanctified to the LORD; it shall not be treasured nor laid up; for her merchandise shall be for them that dwell before the LORD, to eat abundantly, and replace their old garments with new ones
