[1]For, behold, the LordH113, the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, doth take awayH5493[H8688] from JerusalemH3389 and from JudahH3063 the stayH4937 and the staffH4938, the whole stayH4937 of breadH3899, and the wholeH3605 stayH4937 of waterH4325, [1]For behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, doth take away from Jerusalem and from Judah the rod and the staff, the whole support of bread, and the whole support of water,
[2]The mighty manH1368, and the manH376 of warH4421, the judgeH8199[H8802], and the prophetH5030, and the prudentH7080[H8802], and the ancientH2205, [2]The mighty man, and the man of war, the judge, and the prophet, and the prudent, and the ancient,
[3]The captainH8269 of fiftyH2572, and the honourableH5375[H8803] manH6440, and the counsellorH3289[H8802], and the cunningH2450 artificerH2791, and the eloquentH995[H8737] oratorH3908. [3]The captain of fifty, and the honorable man, and the counselor, and the skillful artificer, and the eloquent orator.
[4]And I will giveH5414[H8804] childrenH5288 to be their princesH8269, and babesH8586 shall ruleH4910 over themH8799. [4]And I will give children to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them.
[5]And the peopleH5971 shall be oppressedH5065[H8738], every oneH376 by anotherH376, and every oneH376 by his neighbourH7453: the childH5288 shall behave himself proudlyH7292[H8799] against the ancientH2205, and the baseH7034[H8737] against the honourableH3513.[H8737] [5]And the people shall be oppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbor: the child shall behave himself proudly against the elder, and the base against the honorable.
[6]When a manH376 shall take holdH8610[H8799] of his brotherH251 of the houseH1004 of his fatherH1, saying, Thou hast clothingH8071, be thou our rulerH7101, and let this ruinH4384 be under thy handH3027: [6]When a man shall take hold of his brother of the house of his father, saying, Thou hast clothing, be thou our ruler, and let this ruin be under thy hand:
[7]In that dayH3117 shall he swearH5375[H8799], sayingH559[H8800], I will not be an healerH2280[H8802]; for in my houseH1004 is neither breadH3899 nor clothingH8071: makeH7760[H8799] me not a rulerH7101 of the peopleH5971. [7]In that day shall he swear, saying, I will not be a healer; for in my house is neither bread nor clothing: make me not a ruler of the people.
[8]For JerusalemH3389 is ruinedH3782[H8804], and JudahH3063 is fallenH5307[H8804]: because their tongueH3956 and their doingsH4611 are against the LORDH3068, to provokeH4784[H8687] the eyesH5869 of his gloryH3519. [8]For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen: because their tongue and their doings are against the LORD, to provoke the eyes of his glory.
[9]The shewH1971 of their countenanceH6440 doth witness against themH6030[H8804]; and they declareH5046[H8689] their sinH2403 as SodomH5467, they hideH3582[H8765] it not. WoeH188 unto their soulH5315! for they have rewardedH1580[H8804] evil unto themselvesH7451. [9]The show of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe to their soul! for they have rewarded evil to themselves.
[10]SayH559[H8798] ye to the righteousH6662, that it shall be wellH2896 with him: for they shall eatH398[H8799] the fruitH6529 of their doingsH4611. [10]Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.
[11]WoeH188 unto the wickedH7563! it shall be illH7451 with him: for the rewardH1576 of his handsH3027 shall be givenH6213 himH8735. [11]Woe to the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.
[12]As for my peopleH5971, childrenH5953[H8781] are their oppressorsH5065[H8802], and womenH802 ruleH4910[H8804] over them. O my peopleH5971, they which leadH833[H8764] thee cause thee to errH8582[H8688], and destroyH1104[H8765] the wayH1870 of thy pathsH734. [12]As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they who lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.
[13]The LORDH3068 standeth upH5324[H8737] to pleadH7378[H8800], and standethH5975[H8802] to judgeH1777[H8800] the peopleH5971. [13]The LORD standeth up to plead, and standeth to judge the people.
[14]The LORDH3068 will enterH935[H8799] into judgmentH4941 with the ancientsH2205 of his peopleH5971, and the princesH8269 thereof: for ye have eaten upH1197[H8765] the vineyardH3754; the spoilH1500 of the poorH6041 is in your housesH1004. [14]The LORD will enter into judgment with the elders of his people, and with their princes: for ye have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses.
[15]What mean ye that ye beatH1792 my peopleH5971 to piecesH1792[H8762], and grindH2912[H8799] the facesH6440 of the poorH6041? saithH5002[H8803] the LordH136 GODH3069 of hostsH6635. [15]What mean ye that ye beat my people to pieces, and grind the faces of the poor? saith the Lord GOD of hosts.
[16]Moreover the LORDH3068 saithH559[H8799], BecauseH3282 the daughtersH1323 of ZionH6726 are haughtyH1361[H8804], and walkH3212[H8799] with stretched forthH5186[H8803] necksH1627 and wantonH8265[H8764] eyesH5869, walkingH1980[H8800] and mincingH2952[H8800] as they goH3212[H8799], and making a tinklingH5913[H8762] with their feetH7272: [16]Moreover the LORD saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with extended necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet:
[17]Therefore the LordH136 will smite with a scabH5596[H8765] the crown of the headH6936 of the daughtersH1323 of ZionH6726, and the LORDH3068 will discoverH6168[H8762] their secret partsH6596. [17]Therefore the Lord will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the LORD will uncover their secret parts.
[18]In that dayH3117 the LordH136 will take awayH5493[H8686] the braveryH8597 of their tinkling ornamentsH5914 about their feet, and their caulsH7636, and their round tires like the moonH7720, [18]In that day the Lord will take away the show of their tinkling ornaments about their feet, and their cauls, and their round tires like the moon.
[19]The chainsH5188, and the braceletsH8285, and the mufflersH7479, [19]The chains, and the bracelets, and the mufflers,
[20]The bonnetsH6287, and the ornaments of the legsH6807, and the headbandsH7196, and the tabletsH5315[H1004], and the earringsH3908, [20]The bonnets, and the ornaments of the legs, and the head-bands, and the tablets, and the ear-rings,
[21]The ringsH2885, and noseH639 jewelsH5141, [21]The rings, and nose-jewels,
[22]The changeable suits of apparelH4254, and the mantlesH4595, and the wimplesH4304, and the crisping pinsH2754, [22]The changeable suits of apparel, and the mantles, and the wimples, and the crisping-pins,
[23]The glassesH1549, and the fine linenH5466, and the hoodsH6797, and the vailsH7289. [23]The glasses, and the fine linen, and the hoods, and the vails.
[24]And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smellH1314 there shall be stinkH4716; and instead of a girdleH2290 a rentH5364; and instead of well setH4639 hairH4748 baldnessH7144; and instead of a stomacherH6614 a girdingH4228 of sackclothH8242; and burningH3587 instead of beautyH3308. [24]And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be an offensive odor; and instead of a girdle a rent; and instead of well set hair baldness; and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; and burning instead of beauty.
[25]Thy menH4962 shall fallH5307[H8799] by the swordH2719, and thy mightyH1369 in the warH4421. [25]Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the war.
[26]And her gatesH6607 shall lamentH578[H8804] and mournH56[H8804]; and she being desolateH5352[H8738] shall sitH3427[H8799] upon the groundH776. [26]And her gates shall lament and mourn; and she being desolate, shall sit upon the ground.
