[1]Keep silenceH2790[H8685] before me, O islandsH339; and let the peopleH3816 renewH2498[H8686] their strengthH3581: let them come nearH5066[H8799]; then let them speakH1696[H8762]: let us come nearH7126[H8799] togetherH3162 to judgmentH4941. |
[1]Keep silence before me, O islands, and let the people renew their strength: let them come near, and let them speak: let us come together into judgment. |
[2]Who raised upH5782[H8689] the righteousH6664 man from the eastH4217, calledH7121[H8799] him to his footH7272, gaveH5414[H8799] the nationsH1471 beforeH6440 him, and made him ruleH7287[H8686] over kingsH4428? he gaveH5414[H8799] them as the dustH6083 to his swordH2719, and as drivenH5086[H8737] stubbleH7179 to his bowH7198. |
[2]Who raised up justice from the east, and called him to his foot? And gave the nations before him, and subdued the kings? He gave them as dust to his sword, and as scattered stubble unto his bow. |
[3]He pursuedH7291[H8799] them, and passedH5674[H8799] safelyH7965; even by the wayH734 that he had not goneH935[H8799] with his feetH7272. |
[3]He pursued them, and passed safely by the way that he had not gone with his feet. |
[4]Who hath wroughtH6466[H8804] and doneH6213[H8804] it, callingH7121[H8802] the generationsH1755 from the beginningH7218? I the LORDH3068, the firstH7223, and with the last; I am heH314. |
[4]Who hath wrought and done it? He that calleth the generations from the beginning. I the Lord am the first, and with the last I am the same. |
[5]The islesH339 sawH7200[H8804] it, and fearedH3372[H8799]; the endsH7098 of the earthH776 were afraidH2729[H8799], drew nearH7126[H8804], and cameH857.[H8799] |
[5]The isles saw it, and did fear, and the ends of the earth were abashed, drew near, and came. |
[6]They helpedH5826[H8799] every oneH376 his neighbourH7453; and every one saidH559[H8799] to his brotherH251, Be of good courageH2388.[H8798] |
[6]Every man helped his neighbor, and said to his brother, Be strong. |
[7]So the carpenterH2796 encouragedH2388[H8762] the goldsmithH6884[H8802], and he that smoothethH2505[H8688] with the hammerH6360 him that smoteH1986[H8802] the anvilH6471, sayingH559[H8802], It is readyH2896 for the soderingH1694: and he fastenedH2388[H8762] it with nailsH4548, that it should not be movedH4131.[H8735] |
[7]So the workman comforted the founder, and he that smote with the hammer, him that smote by course, saying, It is ready for the soldering, and he fastened it with nails that it should not be moved. |
[8]But thou, IsraelH3478, art my servantH5650, JacobH3290 whom I have chosenH977[H8804], the seedH2233 of AbrahamH85 my friendH157.[H8802] |
[8]But thou, Israel, art my servant, and thou Jacob, whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend. |
[9]Thou whom I have takenH2388[H8689] from the endsH7098 of the earthH776, and calledH7121[H8804] thee from the chief menH678 thereof, and saidH559[H8799] unto thee, Thou art my servantH5650; I have chosenH977[H8804] thee, and not cast thee awayH3988.[H8804] |
[9]For I have taken thee from the ends of the earth, and called thee before the chief thereof, and said unto thee, Thou art my servant: I have chosen thee, and not cast thee away. |
[10]FearH3372[H8799] thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayedH8159[H8691]; for I am thy GodH430: I will strengthenH553[H8765] thee; yea, I will helpH5826[H8804] thee; yea, I will upholdH8551[H8804] thee with the right handH3225 of my righteousnessH6664. |
[10]Fear thou not, for I am with thee: be not afraid, for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee, and help thee, and will sustain thee with the right hand of my justice. |
[11]Behold, all they that were incensedH2734[H8737] against thee shall be ashamedH954[H8799] and confoundedH3637[H8735]: they shall be as nothing; and theyH582 that striveH7379 with thee shall perishH6.[H8799] |
[11]Behold, all they that provoke thee, shall be ashamed, and confounded: they shall be as nothing, and they that strive with thee, shall perish. |
[12]Thou shalt seekH1245[H8762] them, and shalt not findH4672[H8799] them, even themH582 that contendedH4695 with thee: they that warH4421 against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of noughtH657. |
[12]Thou shalt seek them and shalt not find them: to wit, the men of thy strife, for they shall be as nothing, and the men that war against thee, as a thing of naught. |
[13]For I the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 will holdH2388[H8688] thy right handH3225, sayingH559[H8802] unto thee, FearH3372[H8799] not; I will helpH5826 theeH8804. |
[13]For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not, I will help thee. |
[14]FearH3372[H8799] not, thou wormH8438 JacobH3290, and ye menH4962 of IsraelH3478; I will helpH5826[H8804] thee, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068, and thy redeemerH1350[H8802], the Holy OneH6918 of IsraelH3478. |
[14]Fear not, thou worm, Jacob, and ye men of Israel: I will help thee, saith the Lord and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel. |
[15]Behold, I will makeH7760[H8804] thee a newH2319 sharpH2742 threshingH4173 instrument havingH1167 teethH6374: thou shalt threshH1758[H8799] the mountainsH2022, and beat them smallH1854[H8799], and shalt makeH7760[H8799] the hillsH1389 as chaffH4671. |
[15]Behold, I will make thee a roller, and a new threshing instrument having teeth: thou shalt thresh the mountains, and bring them to powder, and shalt make the hills as chaff. |
[16]Thou shalt fanH2219[H8799] them, and the windH7307 shall carry them awayH5375[H8799], and the whirlwindH5591 shall scatterH6327[H8686] them: and thou shalt rejoiceH1523[H8799] in the LORDH3068, and shalt gloryH1984[H8691] in the Holy OneH6918 of IsraelH3478. |
[16]Thou shalt fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them: and thou shalt rejoice in the Lord, and shalt glory in the Holy One of Israel. |
[17]When the poorH6041 and needyH34 seekH1245[H8764] waterH4325, and there is none, and their tongueH3956 failethH5405[H8804] for thirstH6772, I the LORDH3068 will hearH6030[H8799] them, I the GodH430 of IsraelH3478 will not forsakeH5800 themH8799. |
[17]When the poor and the needy seek water, and there is none (their tongue faileth for thirst: I the Lord will hear them: I the God of Israel will not forsake them) |
[18]I will openH6605[H8799] riversH5104 in high placesH8205, and fountainsH4599 in the midstH8432 of the valleysH1237: I will makeH7760[H8799] the wildernessH4057 a poolH98 of waterH4325, and the dryH6723 landH776 springsH4161 of waterH4325. |
[18]I will open rivers in the tops of the hills, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness as a pool of water, and the waste land as springs of water. |
[19]I will plantH5414[H8799] in the wildernessH4057 the cedarH730, the shittah treeH7848, and the myrtleH1918, and the oilH8081 treeH6086; I will setH7760[H8799] in the desertH6160 the fir treeH1265, and the pineH8410, and the box treeH8391 togetherH3162: |
[19]I will set in the wilderness the cedar, the shittah tree, and the myrtle tree, and the pine tree, and I will set in the wilderness the fir tree, the elm and the box tree together. |
[20]That they may seeH7200[H8799], and knowH3045[H8799], and considerH7760[H8799], and understandH7919[H8686] togetherH3162, that the handH3027 of the LORDH3068 hath doneH6213[H8804] this, and the Holy OneH6918 of IsraelH3478 hath createdH1254 itH8804. |
[20]Therefore let them see and know, and let them consider and understand together that the hand of the Lord hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it. |
[21]ProduceH7126[H8761] your causeH7379, saithH559[H8799] the LORDH3068; bring forthH5066[H8685] your strongH6110 reasons, saithH559[H8799] the KingH4428 of JacobH3290. |
[21]Stand to your cause, saith the Lord: bring forth your strong reasons, saith the king of Jacob. |
[22]Let them bring them forthH5066[H8686], and shewH5046[H8686] us what shall happenH7136[H8799]: let them shewH5046[H8685] the former thingsH7223, what they be, that we may considerH7760[H8799][H3820] them, and knowH3045[H8799] the latter endH319 of them; or declareH8085[H8685] us things for to comeH935.[H8802] |
[22]Let them bring them forth, and let them tell us what shall come: let them show the former things what they be, that we may consider them, and know the latter end of them: either declare us things for to come. |
[23]ShewH5046[H8685] the things that are to comeH857[H8802] hereafterH268, that we may knowH3045[H8799] that ye are godsH430: yea, do goodH3190[H8686], or do evilH7489[H8686], that we may be dismayedH8159[H8691], and beholdH7200[H8799] it togetherH3162. |
[23]Show the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that you are gods: yea, do good or do evil, that we may declare it, and behold it together. |
[24]Behold, ye are of nothingH369, and your workH6467 of noughtH659: an abominationH8441 is he that choosethH977 youH8799. |
[24]Behold, ye are of no value, and your making is of naught: man hath chosen an abomination by them. |
[25]I have raised upH5782[H8689] one from the northH6828, and he shall comeH857[H8799]: from the risingH4217 of the sunH8121 shall he callH7121[H8799] upon my nameH8034: and he shall comeH935[H8799] upon princesH5461 as upon morterH2563, and as the potterH3335[H8802] treadethH7429[H8799] clayH2916. |
[25]I have raised up from the north, and he shall come: from the east sun shall he call upon my name, and shall come upon princes as upon clay, and as the potter treadeth mire under the foot. |
[26]Who hath declaredH5046[H8689] from the beginningH7218, that we may knowH3045[H8799]? and beforetimeH6440, that we may sayH559[H8799], He is righteousH6662? yea, there is none that shewethH5046[H8688], yea, there is none that declarethH8085[H8688], yea, there is none that hearethH8085[H8802] your wordsH561. |
[26]Who hath declared from the beginning, that we may know? Or before time, that we may say, He is righteous? Surely there is none that showeth: surely there is none that declareth: surely there is none that heareth your words. |
[27]The firstH7223 shall say to ZionH6726, BeholdH2009, beholdH2009 them: and I will giveH5414[H8799] to JerusalemH3389 one that bringeth good tidingsH1319.[H8764] |
[27]I am the first, that saith to Zion, Behold, behold them: and I will give to Jerusalem one that shall bring good tidings. |
[28]For I beheldH7200[H8799], and there was no manH376; even among them, and there was no counsellorH3289[H8802], that, when I askedH7592[H8799] of them, could answerH7725[H8686] a wordH1697. |
[28]But when I beheld, there was none, and when I inquired of them, there was no counselor, and when I demanded of them, they answered not a word. |
[29]Behold, they are all vanityH205; their worksH4639 are nothingH657: their molten imagesH5262 are windH7307 and confusionH8414. |
[29]Behold, they are all vanity: their work is of nothing, their images are wind and confusion. |
