| [1]JAKUB, a servant of Aloha and of our Lord Jeshu Meshiha, unto the twelve tribes who are dispersed among the nations: Peace. |
[1]יעקוב עבדה דאלהא ודמרנ ישׁוע משׁיחא לתרתעסרא שׁרבנ דזריענ בעממא שׁלמ |
| [2]All joy shall be to you, my brethren, when you shall have entered into temptations many and various. |
[2]כל חדוא תהוא לכונ אחי כד תעלונ לנסיונא סגיאא ומשׁחלפא |
| [3]For you know that the proving of faith maketh you to possess patience; |
[3]ידעינ אנתונ גיר דבוקיא דהימנותא מקנא לכונ מסיברנותא |
| [4]But to patience let there be a perfect work, that you may be complete and perfected, and in nothing be deficient. |
[4]לה דינ למסיברנותא נהוא לה עבדא משׁמליא דתהוונ גמירינ ומשׁלמנינ ובמדמ לא הויתונ חסירינ |
| [5]If any of you be deficient in wisdom, let him ask of Aloha, who giveth to all expansively, and upbraideth not, and it is given to him. |
[5]אנ אנשׁ דינ מנכונ חסיר מנ חכמתא נשׁאל מנ אלהא דיהב לכל פשׁיטאית ולא מחסד ומתיהבא לה |
| [6]But let him ask in faith, not wavering.ⓘ For he who wavereth is like the waves of the sea which the wind disturbeth. |
[6]נשׁאל דינ בהימנותא כד לא מתפלג הו גיר דמתפלג דמא לגללא דימא דשׁגשׁא להונ רוחא |
| [7]And let not that man expect to receive any thing from the Lord, |
[7]ולא נסבר הו ברנשׁא דנסב מדמ מנ מריא |
| [8]Who is divided in his mind, and disturbed in all his ways. |
[8]אינא דפליג ברעינה ושׁגישׁ בכלהינ אורחתה |
| [9]But let the humble brother glory in his exaltation, |
[9]נשׁתבהר דינ אחא מכיכא ברומרמה |
| [10]And the rich in his humility; for as the flower of an herb, so he passeth. |
[10]ועתירא במוככה מטל דאיכ הבבא דעסבא הכנא עבר |
| [11]For the sun ariseth in his heat, and drieth the herb, and the flower of it falleth, and the beauty of its appearance perisheth; so also the rich withereth in his reverses. |
[11]דנח גיר שׁמשׁא בחומה ומובשׁ לה לעסבא והבבה נפל ושׁופרא דחזוה אבד הכנא אפ עתירא חמא בהופכוהי |
| [12]Blessed the man who endureth temptations: for when he hath been proved he shall receive the crown of life, which Aloha hath promised unto them who love him. |
[12]טובוהי לגברא דמסיבר נסיונא דמא דאתבחר נסב כלילא דחיא הו דמלכ אלהא לאילינ דרחמינ לה |
| [13]Let no man say, when he is tempted, From Aloha I am tempted; for Aloha is not tempted with evils, and he no man tempteth. |
[13]לא נאמר אנשׁ כד מתנסא דמנ אלהא מתנסא אנא אלהא גיר לא מנסי בבישׁתא והו לאנשׁ לא מנסא |
| [14]But each man from his concupiscence tempteth himself, and desireth, and is drawn away. |
[14]אלא אנשׁ אנשׁ מנ רגתה הו מתנסא ומתרגרג ומתנגד |
| [15]And this desire conceiveth and beareth sin; and sin, when it is perfected, beareth death. |
[15]והדא רגתא בטנא וילדא חטיתא חטיתא דינ מא דאתגמרת ילדא מותא |
| [16]Do not err, my beloved brethren; |
[16]לא תטעונ אחי חביבא |
| [17]Every good gift and perfect from above descendeth, from the Father of lights, with whom is no alteration, nor the shadow of vicissitude. |
[17]כל מוהבתא טבתא ומשׁמליתא מנ לעל נחתא מנ אבא דנהירא הו דלית לותה שׁוחלפא מדמ אפ לא טלניתא דשׁוגניא |
| [18]He willed, and begat us by the word of truth, that we might be the first-ones of his creatures. |
[18]הויו צבא וילדנ במלתא דקושׁתא דנהוא רשׁיתא דבריתה |
| [19]And you, my beloved brethren, let every one of you be swift to hear, and slow to speak, and slow to be angry; |
[19]ואנתונ אחי חביבא כל אנשׁ מנכונ נהוא מסרהב למשׁמע ומוחר לממללו ומוחר למרגז |
| [20]For the wrath of man the righteousness of Aloha worketh not. |
[20]רוגזה גיר דגברא זדיקותא דאלהא לא עבד |
| [21]Wherefore, remove from you all impurity and the abounding of wickedness, and with meekness receive the word which is engrafted in our nature, which is able to save your souls. |
[21]מטל הנא ארחקו מנכונ כלה טנפותא וסוגאא דבישׁותא ובמכיכותא קבלו מלתא דנציבא בכיננ דהי משׁכחא דתחא אנינ נפשׁתכונ |
| [22]BUT be doers of the word, and not hearers only, neither deceive yourselves. |
[22]הוו דינ עבודא דמלתא ולא שׁמועא בלחוד ולא תטעונ נפשׁתכונ |
| [23]For if a man be a hearer of the word and not a doer of it, this [man] is like one who vieweth his face in a mirror; |
[23]אנ אנשׁ גיר נהוא שׁמועה דמלתא ולא עבודה הנא דמא להו דחזא אפוהי במחזיתא |
| [24]For he seeth himself and passeth, and hath forgotten what [manner of person] he was. |
[24]חזא גיר נפשׁה ועבר וטעא דאיכנא הוא |
| [25]But every one who looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he is not a hearer of the hearing of forgetfulness, but a doer of works; and this shall be blessed in his work. |
[25]כל דינ דחר בנמוסא משׁלמנא דחארותא וקוי בה לא הוא שׁמועא דשׁמעא דמתטעא אלא עבודא דעבדא והנא טובנא נהוא בעבדה |
| [26]And if a man thinketh that he servethⓘ Aloha, and holdeth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, of this man his service is vain. |
[26]ואנ אנשׁ סבר דמשׁמשׁ לאלהא ולא אחד לשׁנה אלא מטעא לה לבה דהנא סריקא הי תשׁמשׁתה |
| [27]For the serviceⓘ which is pure and true before Aloha the Father, is this, to visit the orphans and widows in their afflictions, and that a man keep himself from the world without blemish. |
[27]תשׁמשׁתא גיר דכיתא וקדישׁתא קדמ אלהא אבא הדא הי למסער יתמא וארמלתא באולצניהונ ולמטר אנשׁ נפשׁה מנ עלמא דלא טולשׁא |
