[1]Iude the seruaunt of Iesus Christe, the brother of Iames: To them which are called and sanctified in God the father, and preserued in Iesus Christe |
[1]Judas, of Jesus Christ a servant, and brother of James, to those sanctified in God the Father, and in Jesus Christ kept -- called, |
[2]Mercy vnto you, and peace and loue be multiplied |
[2]kindness to you, and peace, and love, be multiplied! |
[3]Beloued, when I gaue all diligence to write vnto you of the common saluation, it was nedeful for me to write vnto you, to exhorte you, that ye shoulde earnestly contende for the fayth which was once geuen vnto the saintes |
[3]Beloved, all diligence using to write to you concerning the common salvation, I had necessity to write to you, exhorting to agonize for the faith once delivered to the saints, |
[4]For there are certayne vngodly men craftily crept in, which were before of olde ordeyned to this condemnation: They turne the grace of our God vnto wantonnesse, and denye God which is the only Lorde, and our Lorde Iesus Christe |
[4]for there did come in unobserved certain men, long ago having been written beforehand to this judgment, impious, the grace of our God perverting to lasciviousness, and our only Master, God, and Lord -- Jesus Christ -- denying, |
[5]My mynde is therfore to put you in remembraunce: forasmuch as ye once knowe this, howe that the Lorde, after that he had delyuered the people out of Egypt, destroyed the which afterward beleued not |
[5]and to remind you I intend, you knowing once this, that the Lord, a people out of the land of Egypt having saved, again those who did not believe did destroy; |
[6]The Angels also which kept not their first estate, but left their owne habitation, he hath reserued in euerlastyng chaynes vnder darkenesse, vnto the iudgement of the great day |
[6]messengers also, those who did not keep their own principality, but did leave their proper dwelling, to a judgment of a great day, in bonds everlasting, under darkness He hath kept, |
[7]Euen as Sodome and Gomorrhe, and the cities about them, which in lyke maner defiled them selues with fornication, and folowed straunge fleshe, are set foorth for an ensample, and suffer the payne of eternall fyre |
[7]as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them, in like manner to these, having given themselves to whoredom, and gone after other flesh, have been set before -- an example, of fire age-during, justice suffering. |
[8]Lykewyse, these beyng deceaued by dreames, defyle the flesh, despise rulers, and speake euyll of them that are in aucthoritie |
[8]In like manner, nevertheless, those dreaming also the flesh indeed do defile, and lordship they put away, and dignities they speak evil of, |
[9]Yet Michael the Archangel, when he stroue agaynst the deuyll, and disputed about the body of Moyses, durst not geue raylyng sentence, but sayde, the Lorde rebuke thee |
[9]yet Michael, the chief messenger, when, with the devil contending, he was disputing about the body of Moses, did not dare to bring up an evil-speaking judgment, but said, `The Lord rebuke thee!' |
[10]But these speake euyl of those thinges which they knowe not: & what thinges they know naturally, as beastes which are without reason, in those thynges they corrupt them selues |
[10]and these, as many things indeed as they have not known, they speak evil of; and as many things as naturally (as the irrational beasts) they understand, in these they are corrupted; |
[11]Wo be vnto the, for they haue folowed the way of Cain, and are vtterly geuen to the errour of Balaam for lucres sake, and perishe in the gaynsaying of Core |
[11]wo to them! because in the way of Cain they did go on, and to the deceit of Balaam for reward they did rush, and in the gainsaying of Korah they did perish. |
[12]These are spottes in your feastes of charitie, whe they feast with you, without al feare feedyng the selues: cloudes they are without water, caryed about of windes, corrupt trees, and without fruite, twise dead, and plucked vp by the rootes |
[12]These are in your love-feasts craggy rocks; feasting together with you, without fear shepherding themselves; clouds without water, by winds carried about; trees autumnal, without fruit, twice dead, rooted up; |
[13]They are the ragyng waues of the sea, fomyng out their owne shame: They are wandryng starres, to whom is reserued the mist of darknes for euer |
[13]wild waves of a sea, foaming out their own shames; stars going astray, to whom the gloom of the darkness to the age hath been kept. |
[14]Enoch the seuenth from Adam, prophesied before of such, saying: Beholde, the Lorde shall come with thousandes of saintes |
[14]And prophesy also to these did the seventh from Adam -- Enoch -- saying, `Lo, the Lord did come in His saintly myriads, |
[15]To geue iudgement agaynst all men, and to rebuke all that are vngodly among them, of all their vngodly deedes, which they haue vngodly committed, and of all their cruel speakynges, which vngodly sinners haue spoken agaynst hym |
[15]to do judgment against all, and to convict all their impious ones, concerning all their works of impiety that they did impiously, and concerning all the stiff things that speak against Him did impious sinners.' |
[16]These are murmurers, complayners, walkyng after their owne lustes, whose mouthes speake proude thynges. They haue men in great reuerence because of aduantage |
[16]These are murmurers, repiners; according to their desires walking, and their mouth doth speak great swellings, giving admiration to persons for the sake of profit; |
[17]But ye beloued, remember the wordes which were spoken before, of the Apostles of our Lorde Iesus Christe |
[17]and ye, beloved, remember ye the sayings spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ: |
[18]Howe that they tolde you, that there shoulde be begilers in ye last tyme, which should walke after their owne vngodly lustes |
[18]that they said to you, that in the last time there shall be scoffers, after their own desires of impieties going on, |
[19]These are makers of sectes, fleshlie, hauyng not the spirite |
[19]these are those setting themselves apart, natural men, the Spirit not having. |
[20]But ye dearely beloued, edifie your selues in your most holy fayth, praying in the holy ghost |
[20]And ye, beloved, on your most holy faith building yourselves up, in the Holy Spirit praying, |
[21]And kepe your selues in the loue of God, lokyng for the mercie of our Lord Iesus Christe, vnto eternall lyfe |
[21]yourselves in the love of God keep ye, waiting for the kindness of our Lord Jesus Christ -- to life age-during; |
[22]And haue compassion of some, seperatyng them |
[22]and to some be kind, judging thoroughly, |
[23]And other saue with feare, pullyng them out of the fyre, and haue compassion on the other, and hate euen the garment spotted by the fleshe |
[23]and some in fear save ye, out of the fire snatching, hating even the coat from the flesh spotted. |
[24]Unto him that is able to kepe you free from sinne, and to present you faultlesse before the presence of his glory with ioy |
[24]And to Him who is able to guard you not stumbling, and to set [you] in the presence of His glory unblemished, in gladness, |
[25]To God our sauiour, which only is wyse, be glorie, maiestie, dominion, and power, nowe and euer. Amen |
[25]to the only wise God our Saviour, [is] glory and greatness, power and authority, both now and to all the ages! Amen. |
