| [1]And the sons of Israel add to do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and Jehovah giveth them into the hand of the Philistines forty years. |
[1]And the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 didH6213[H8800] evilH7451 againH3254[H8686] in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068; and the LORDH3068 deliveredH5414[H8799] them into the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430 fortyH705 yearsH8141. |
| [2]And there is a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danite, and his name [is] Manoah, his wife [is] barren, and hath not borne; |
[2]And there was a certainH259 manH376 of ZorahH6881, of the familyH4940 of the DanitesH1839, whose nameH8034 was ManoahH4495; and his wifeH802 was barrenH6135, and bareH3205 notH8804. |
| [3]and a messenger of Jehovah appeareth unto the woman, and saith unto her, `Lo, I pray thee, thou [art] barren, and hast not borne; when thou hast conceived, then thou hast borne a son. |
[3]And the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 appearedH7200[H8735] unto the womanH802, and saidH559[H8799] unto her, Behold now, thou art barrenH6135, and bearestH3205[H8804] not: but thou shalt conceiveH2029[H8804], and bearH3205[H8804] a sonH1121. |
| [4]And, now, take heed, I pray thee, and do not drink wine, and strong drink, and do not eat any unclean thing, |
[4]Now therefore bewareH8104[H8734], I pray thee, and drinkH8354[H8799] not wineH3196 nor strong drinkH7941, and eatH398[H8799] not any unclean thingH2931: |
| [5]for, lo, thou art conceiving and bearing a son, and a razor doth not go up on his head, for a Nazarite to God is the youth from the womb, and he doth begin to save Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.' |
[5]For, lo, thou shalt conceiveH2030, and bearH3205[H8802] a sonH1121; and no razorH4177 shall comeH5927[H8799] on his headH7218: for the childH5288 shall be a NazariteH5139 unto GodH430 from the wombH990: and he shall beginH2490[H8686] to deliverH3467[H8687] IsraelH3478 out of the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430. |
| [6]And the woman cometh and speaketh to her husband, saying, `A man of God hath come unto me, and his appearance [is] as the appearance of a messenger of God, very fearful, and I have not asked him whence he [is], and his name he hath not declared to me; |
[6]Then the womanH802 cameH935[H8799] and toldH559[H8799] her husbandH376, sayingH559[H8800], A manH376 of GodH430 cameH935[H8804] unto me, and his countenanceH4758 was like the countenanceH4758 of an angelH4397 of GodH430, veryH3966 terribleH3372[H8737]: but I askedH7592[H8804] him not whence he was, neither toldH5046[H8689] he me his nameH8034: |
| [7]and he saith to me, Lo, thou art pregnant, and bearing a son, and now do not drink wine and strong drink, and do not eat any unclean thing, for a Nazarite to God is the youth from the womb till the day of his death.' |
[7]But he saidH559[H8799] unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceiveH2030, and bearH3205[H8802] a sonH1121; and now drinkH7941 no wineH3196 nor strong drinkH8354[H8799], neither eatH398[H8799] any uncleanH2932 thing: for the childH5288 shall be a NazariteH5139 to GodH430 from the wombH990 to the dayH3117 of his deathH4194. |
| [8]And Manoah maketh entreaty unto Jehovah, and saith, `O, my Lord, the man of God whom Thou didst send, let him come in, I pray thee, again unto us, and direct us what we do to the youth who is born.' |
[8]Then ManoahH4495 intreatedH6279[H8799] the LORDH3068, and saidH559[H8799], OH994 my LordH136, letH4994 the manH376 of GodH430 which thou didst sendH7971[H8804] come againH935[H8799] unto us, and teachH3384[H8686] us what we shall doH6213[H8799] unto the childH5288 that shall be bornH3205.[H8795] |
| [9]And God hearkeneth to the voice of Manoah, and the messenger of God cometh again unto the woman, and she [is] sitting in a field, and Manoah her husband is not with her, |
[9]And GodH430 hearkenedH8085[H8799] to the voiceH6963 of ManoahH4495; and the angelH4397 of GodH430 came againH935[H8799] unto the womanH802 as she satH3427[H8802] in the fieldH7704: but ManoahH4495 her husband was not with herH376. |
| [10]and the woman hasteth, and runneth, and declareth to her husband, and saith unto him, `Lo, he hath appeared unto me -- the man who came on [that] day unto me.' |
[10]And the womanH802 made hasteH4116[H8762], and ranH7323[H8799], and shewedH5046[H8686] her husbandH376, and saidH559[H8799] unto him, Behold, the manH376 hath appearedH7200[H8738] unto me, that cameH935[H8804] unto me the other dayH3117. |
| [11]And Manoah riseth, and goeth after his wife, and cometh unto the man, and saith to him, `Art thou the man who spake unto the woman?' and he saith, `I [am].' |
[11]And ManoahH4495 aroseH6965[H8799], and wentH3212[H8799] afterH310 his wifeH802, and cameH935[H8799] to the manH376, and saidH559[H8799] unto him, Art thou the manH376 that spakestH1696[H8765] unto the womanH802? And he saidH559, I amH8799. |
| [12]And Manoah saith, `Now let thy words come to pass; what is the custom of the youth -- and his work?' |
[12]And ManoahH4495 saidH559[H8799], Now let thy wordsH1697 come to passH935[H8799]. How shall we orderH4941 the childH5288, and how shall we do unto himH4639? |
| [13]And the messenger of Jehovah saith unto Manoah, `Of all that I said unto the woman let her take heed; |
[13]And the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 saidH559[H8799] unto ManoahH4495, Of all that I saidH559[H8804] unto the womanH802 let her bewareH8104.[H8735] |
| [14]of anything which cometh out from the wine-vine she doth not eat, and wine and strong drink she doth not drink, and any unclean thing she doth not eat; all that I have commanded her she doth observe.' |
[14]She may not eatH398[H8799] of any thing that comethH3318[H8799] of the vineH1612, neither let her drinkH8354[H8799] wineH3196 or strong drinkH7941, nor eatH398[H8799] any uncleanH2932 thing: all that I commandedH6680[H8765] her let her observeH8104.[H8799] |
| [15]And Manoah saith unto the messenger of Jehovah, `Let us detain thee, we pray thee, and prepare before thee a kid of the goats.' |
[15]And ManoahH4495 saidH559[H8799] unto the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068, I pray thee, let us detainH6113[H8799] thee, until we shall have made readyH6213[H8799] a kidH1423[H5795] for theeH6440. |
| [16]And the messenger of Jehovah saith unto Manoah, `If thou detain me -- I do not eat of thy bread; and if thou prepare a burnt-offering -- to Jehovah thou dost offer it;' for Manoah hath not known that He [is] a messenger of Jehovah. |
[16]And the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 saidH559[H8799] unto ManoahH4495, Though thou detainH6113[H8799] me, I will not eatH398[H8799] of thy breadH3899: and ifH518 thou wilt offerH6213[H8799] a burnt offeringH5930, thou must offerH5927[H8686] it unto the LORDH3068. For ManoahH4495 knewH3045[H8804] not that he was an angelH4397 of the LORDH3068. |
| [17]And Manoah saith unto the messenger of Jehovah, `What [is] thy name? when thy words come to pass, then we have honoured thee.' |
[17]And ManoahH4495 saidH559[H8799] unto the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068, What is thy nameH8034, that when thy sayingsH1697 come to passH935[H8799] we may do thee honourH3513?[H8765] |
| [18]And the messenger of Jehovah saith to him, `Why [is] this -- thou dost ask for My name? -- and it [is] Wonderful.' |
[18]And the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 saidH559[H8799] unto him, Why askestH7592[H8799] thou thus after my nameH8034, seeing it is secretH6383[H8675]?[H6383] |
| [19]And Manoah taketh the kid of the goats, and the present, and offereth on the rock to Jehovah, and He is doing wonderfully, and Manoah and his wife are looking on, |
[19]So ManoahH4495 tookH3947[H8799] a kidH1423[H5795] with a meat offeringH4503, and offeredH5927[H8799] it upon a rockH6697 unto the LORDH3068: and the angel didH6213[H8800] wondrouslyH6381[H8688]; and ManoahH4495 and his wifeH802 looked onH7200.[H8802] |
| [20]and it cometh to pass, in the going up of the flame from off the altar toward the heavens, that the messenger of Jehovah goeth up in the flame of the altar, and Manoah and his wife are looking on, and they fall on their faces to the earth, |
[20]For it came to pass, when the flameH3851 went upH5927[H8800] toward heavenH8064 from off the altarH4196, that the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 ascendedH5927[H8799] in the flameH3851 of the altarH4196. And ManoahH4495 and his wifeH802 looked onH7200[H8802] it, and fell onH5307[H8799] their facesH6440 to the groundH776. |
| [21]and the messenger of Jehovah hath not added again to appear unto Manoah, and unto his wife, then hath Manoah known that He [is] a messenger of Jehovah. |
[21]But the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 did no moreH3254[H8804] appearH7200[H8736] to ManoahH4495 and to his wifeH802. Then ManoahH4495 knewH3045[H8804] that he was an angelH4397 of the LORDH3068. |
| [22]And Manoah saith unto his wife, `We certainly die, for we have seen God.' |
[22]And ManoahH4495 saidH559[H8799] unto his wifeH802, We shall surelyH4191[H8800] dieH4191[H8799], because we have seenH7200[H8804] GodH430. |
| [23]And his wife saith to him, `If Jehovah were desirous to put us to death, He had not received from our hands burnt-offering and present, nor shewed us all these things, nor as [at this] time caused us to hear [anything] like this.' |
[23]But his wifeH802 saidH559[H8799] unto him, IfH3863 the LORDH3068 were pleasedH2654[H8804] to killH4191[H8687] us, he would not have receivedH3947[H8804] a burnt offeringH5930 and a meat offeringH4503 at our handsH3027, neither would he have shewedH7200[H8689] us all these things, nor would as at this timeH6256 have toldH8085[H8689] us such things as theseH2063. |
| [24]And the woman beareth a son, and calleth his name Samson, and the youth groweth, and Jehovah doth bless him, |
[24]And the womanH802 bareH3205[H8799] a sonH1121, and calledH7121[H8799] his nameH8034 SamsonH8123: and the childH5288 grewH1431[H8799], and the LORDH3068 blessedH1288 himH8762. |
| [25]and the Spirit of Jehovah beginneth to move him in the camp of Dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol. |
[25]And the SpiritH7307 of the LORDH3068 beganH2490[H8686] to move him at timesH6470[H8800] in the campH4264 of DanH1835 between ZorahH6881 and EshtaolH847. |
